Really, I love your Thranduil. I thought this story would be Imrahil centered, but it is all about Thranduil and I really love that. I love to see Imrahil being so admirative of the Elvenking because... Well who is not???? This story shows really well all the different facets of Thranduil. We see him like a child enjoying wholeheartedly his travel south, and then becoming the famously short-tempered and dangerous woodland king when his people are being threatened and killed. Also, this last chapter was really good. Your description of the battle made me really capture it and I can't wait to see Thranduil's plan to be put into execution. He fears nothing and has complete confidence in his warriors. I hope to read the next chapters soon. Thank you! Celebriante

Haha, the phrase "famous last words" comes to mind... “The truth will out!” Baldor called from behind, attending their conversation as well he might. “Gondor for the Gondorrim!” O my. It strikes me (rather forcefully, actually) that this sentiment not only would exile the Queen if it were carried out, but it also excludes the Ringbearers to whom Gondor owes its very existence. I rather shared Imrahil's giddiness at the beginning. What a relief to get out of that awful place they were visiting! And all the genealogy at the end sounded quite homelike and hobbity to me, LOL!

Lindelea · 26 March 2020 · Chapter 4: Markets and Outlaws

Adding to my previous review since I have a few moments to spare this morning, and I re-read this chapter before going on to the next. Beleg was quite correct about the quality of his vintage, Imrahil noted. He was justifiably proud of the enterprise he shared with his brother, Brandir, thriving as it was after the near ruination of his family before the war. He gladly gave them a brief tour of the place. Thranduil, once again, seemed indefatigably interested in the minutia of the business, and asked many questions, which delighted their host. Beleg is an intriguing character! Is he to be found in any other stories? I must admit, this is the first one of yours I have read. I recognize the camel and crocodile ("tastes like chicken!") in the meat market. Imrahil as Elessar's bulldog. I like that. The characters are well-developed, even in brief appearances, and the descriptions are marvelously real. Hope this finds you all well.

Oh, gosh, this is so marvelously written. The combination of irony and understatement and undercurrents is a wonder to behold, along with the descriptions that say so much more than (polite) conversation could convey. Pelargir simply jumps from the page in all its color and (frankly, but perhaps neither polite nor prudent to say aloud in that place) squalor. I find myself holding my breath, probably not the best thing to do when so much remains to be read. Excellent work! Well done. Looking forward to reading more.

Lindelea · 7 March 2020 · Chapter 3: Horses and Treason

regretting not a moment ...ah. I think I know how he feels. The fox "pet" is a hoot! “I suspect those years weigh more than we know,” Imrahil said. Words wisely spoken, I suspect. Falathar. Hmmmmm. Sounds to me like he deserves his son. ...on the Steward's seat... Yikes! I'm equally (or maybe more so) aghast! menagerie - masterful contempt (Lin mutters a bad word in his direction). And yes, Falathar is just as bad (and worse) as my first impression of him. Looking forward to his just desserts. The introduction of so many threads into this tapestry you're weaving is masterfully done. Looking forward to reading more.

Oh my stars! Just when you think everything is getting resolved, not only do the bad guys get away, but a whole new huge problem comes out of left field! Poor Aragorn...why did he want to do this king thing again? Is it too late to pull a Beren & Luthien and just take off with Arwen to some nice secluded woodland?

Author's reply

I know I'd be tempted. XD Thanks for reading!

Lindelea · 17 February 2020 · Chapter 2: Wine and Rumor

Ooo, feasting and feting, politics and intrigue! Love the descriptions of the food and entertainment, and the undercurrent of potential troubles to come. We are going to the Coast in a few weeks, and I so look forward to fresh-caught seafood!

Sounds wonderful! Thanks for reading!

Lindelea · 16 February 2020 · Chapter 1: Princes and Kings

Ah. A well-realized, fully fleshed picture emerges. I can only imagine meeting such a legendary figure. I'd probably be completely tongue-tied, LOL! Looking forward to reading more.

Lindelea · 15 February 2020 · Chapter 0

(slap my forehead) Oh geez, I get it. I didn't read this for the longest time because my brain interpreted the title as the last great battle and death of Imrahil. Silly me! I should have looked at the prologue long ago. Looking forward to reading this. Thanks!

Author's reply

No, no, Imrahil doesn't die. We promise! :D

PSW · 2 November 2019 · Chapter 15: Capture and Escape

Things are moving! Elessar is one unhappy king, and I suppose the old saying applies here — If Elessar ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. Or, well ... something like that. ;-) Very embarrassing for Faramir and Imrahil indeed, though not their fault. Glad Gondor’s allies have come alongside — I’m a bit concerned this won’t be quite as easy as they’re expecting. I was so happy to see an update! :-D Thx so much for writing!

Love your stories!!!! Are you going to update We were young once? I would love to read more about Thranduil.

Author's reply

Thanks for all your lovely comments! Sorry, I write at a frozen snail's pace. But I have been trying to make some time lately. :)

Bella · 21 October 2019 · Chapter 14: Revelations and Ramifications

LOVED this story! And this last chapter was so satisfying. Unexpected in the best way. You say so much with so little, like Thranduil's 'Leave him to me.'; because you've set up his character so clearly for us, we know anyone who gets on the wrong side of him is going to regret it. I really hope you continue with this story- I'm desperate to see how it turns out. Thank for writing.

Author's reply

Thanks for reading! And for the kick in the pants. I really do want to finish this one.

Jengurl24 · 30 April 2018 · Chapter 14: Revelations and Ramifications

At last! Can I just say I love your writing? I came upon you while reading the Fanfic "Finding a Voice" by Roselightfairy on Archive of Our Own whom credited a snippet from another of your works as an inspiration. I have since then been completely enthralled by your story telling and depiction of characters. I especially admire the way you manage the huge cast of middle-earth and balance screen time without detracting from the plot, bravo! The end is nigh for Lord Falathar and I can't wait to see Thranduil take his due vengeance! Eagerly anticipating the next installment, ~Jen

Okay, now I'm heartbroken. I liked the fox. :(

lembas7 · 23 March 2018 · Chapter 3: Horses and Treason

Oh, wow. I absolutely love "I Return" (now "Sons of Fellowship"; and let me tell you of the panic moment I had when I was searching for the story under the old title, couldn't find it, and couldn't recall your penname), and was thrilled to see this addition. But I'm prompted to leave this review by my now vicious desire to see Falathar get what's coming to him. Have yet to make my way through the rest of the story but I'm crossing my fingers for a rambunctious romp through Pelargir with adventures, sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise.... :) Basically, LOTR does Pirates is my hope. I would also like to ask for permission to retain these stories and format them for my e-reader? I don't repost or redistribute, I just ask when I find stories I love not cross-posted to a site such as AO3 (which lets me download in epub format) so I can save them to my e-reader.

Author's reply

Sorry about that! I'm glad you were able to find it again, and you may absolutely save anything you like for your e-reader. Thanks for reviewing! :)

PSW · 20 March 2018 · Chapter 14: Revelations and Ramifications

At last, some answers! And from what a source. Such intriguing ponderings regarding the Uruks/orcs, and their path forward now that the driving forces behind them are no more. If given a choice, what would they be? Hmm ... I do very much like how you have written this Uruk (can’t remember his name exactly) — still with unattractive and even repulsive qualities, but the desire is there. Very true, change such as this does not happen overnight. I’m anxious to see how these next steps will play out. So glad I finally got back to this story, it has completely sucked me in again. Thanks so much for writing, and I look forward to more!

Author's reply

Thanks for all the great reviews! We'll try not to keep you waiting too long.

PSW · 20 March 2018 · Chapter 13: Death and Doubt

Well ... huh. Curiouser and curiouser ... I’m with Imrahil — very curious to learn what an Uruk could say which would make Thranduil stand down, even for a time. Forgot to say while ago — I laughed at your comment several chapters back about Rlves living so long that they had no patience for boring food. :-)

PSW · 20 March 2018 · Chapter 12: Judgement and Crisis

And the hits just keep on coming ... Hope Imrahil’s prepared to deal with *this* tag-along — things could get a little testy (not that they aren’t already). Glad Faramir is coming along. Fish skins, hmm? That makes ... a certain sort of sense, I suppose. It’s interesting to observe families (Imrahil’s in this case) in which the head is not only father, but commander in both secular and military rank. It gives relationships and interactions a different feel than what we’re used to, certainly. Thanks as always for writing!

PSW · 20 March 2018 · Chapter 11: Conflagration

Oh, I was worried about Gwaelas ... I hope this means he’ll recover. What a terrible mess. Thranduil is handling this with as much calm and dignity, I think, as can be expected from him — especially considering the injury and death of those who have been with him for so long. I hope that they’ll take some clue from the fact that Faramir was obviously meant to be there too ... but with so much going on who knows. In any event, they’ve made pretty much everyone in charge of any there really really mad. Run and hide, bad guys. Run and hide ...

PSW · 20 March 2018 · Chapter 10: Entertainments and Hostilities

Noooo .... *puts hand over eyes and watches from between fingers* I can see it all going south, and there seems to be nothing to stop it ... Other than the blatant acts of sabotage, what a fantastic day. I loved your descriptions of the sport — would have loved to actually see those matches — and of course the other activities and diversions. What a great party. Such a shame that it all has to be ruined by people who can’t just be happy with the new prosperity. I was wondering for quite a while just how long Beleg could be gone without anyone noticing ... :-P Dinner to buy and make, then on to the next chapter. Thx for writing!

someone · 26 November 2017 · Chapter 13: Death and Doubt

Until now, Thranduil has always acted with confidence and most likely nothing has been truly new for him... and now he has had a relatively friendly conversation with an orc. I can hardly wait to see what comes of that! It seems that even Thranduil can’t make sense of it. There’s something very refreshing in reading a story with completely new ideas. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an action story with Imrahil and Thranduil as main characters! This story has certainly went in different direction than I expected. Fish skins for burns? Is that some sort of grease bangade? Faramir is lucky to have elves fussing over him! I’m so sorry for Ivriniel, Beleg was a good man.

Author's reply

Thanks so much for the great review! I'd heard about an experimental treatment for burn victims in South America using farmed tilapia skins which has apparently been quite successful. It seemed like a very Elvish idea! :)
