This is such a warm and happy chapter. I love how these different folks are learning about each other and getting along so well. Of course I always love it when new people learn about hobbits, especially Frodo and Sam.
Author's reply
Now hobbits are respected from one end of Middle-earth to the other! *beams*
I'm so happy you enjoyed this, Addie. This is my favorite kind of chapter to write.

Glad to see another chapter from you, Shirebound. A nice quiet chapter with the Snowmen settling in. Wonder if there will be "exciting" times to come. *grin*
Author's reply
It's so relaxing to write a quiet, peaceful scene. I find myself getting as comfortable as the characters experiencing it. :)

This was very sweet, and of course I loved anything to do with the dogs and the mention of Huan- interesting that he figures in their legends! (And I wouldn't let the children have the maple candy, if it were up to me! *g*)
Author's reply
Thank you, my friend. These folk have the Valar and their stories woven into the fabric of their culture, so I imagine that valiant Huan was also known to them. *grins*

Frodo son of Drogo, who guards your generous gift so fiercely from the greed of his countrymen
I've quite forgotten that the gifts are actually sweets heheh, the King sure does have his sense of humour *loves*
Another fine update, Janet!
Author's reply
Thank you, my friend! I believe that Elessar would be especially relaxed and teasing around his beloved hobbits, especially since he's known them (in this AU) since they were youngsters.

Another delightful chapter! Trust yourself write dogs most convincingly!
I'm not surprised to see Elessar and the snow people of Forochel getting along so well. I'm sure as they get to know each other better, they'll get along even more.
Author's reply
Both my Pippin-pup, and everything I imagined about Scamp, years ago, are certainly wonderful Muses. I'm so pleased your enjoyed this. :)
It's my belief that people of good will who truly want to communicate, and understand one another, will find ways to do so.

“Puppies!” the seven-year old cried out with joy
*grins* To young Pippin every dog is a puppy - no matter how big it really is!
A great new chapter! I'm quite sure that both parties will find many goods to trade with - especially the amber. (Is that the name for the stone? In German it is called Bernstein.)
Author's reply
Thank you! Yes, we call it amber. Thank you for the translation. :)
Puppies make everything better. And when I can bring together puppies and hobbits... *fluffy contentment*

Another very sweet chapter. (-: It's very comforting to hear about a global warming that is benign, unlike ours. It makes sense that the end of Sauron would bring about such greening for them.
Author's reply
Thank you. The Professor's one mention that the Snow-people believed the Witch-king had some power over their weather really inspired me.

Today is Embrace Your Geekness Day (My sister found that obscure holiday on a website somewhere - how fun!), so part of my celebration is reading your sweet chapter here. It is neat to find these peoples getting along so well. Like Aragorn offering his and it being taken. :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Thank you so much. And I'm pleased to be part of the EYGD celebration. :)

What a delightful chapter, so full of good news for both the hosts and for the new and unexpected guests!
I love the various reactions to the dogs and to the gifts the new people brought with them. And I loved the snow-people's reactions to the sight of Annuminas and to the news that Angmar was gone.
This is such a fun story, dear!
Author's reply
Thank you! Each chapter is very nearly a blank slate until I sit down to write it, so I'm enjoying the unfolding of this story as much as anyone. What a joy to be able to imagine these events any way I like, and allow them to be happy and productive for all concerned.

A lovely interlude as the two groups get to know one another more. And what child can possibly resist a dog? *grin* I look forward to seeing what has brought the Northmen so far from home and what Elessar will do.
Author's reply
*grins back* I was six when our family got the dog I grew up with, and know how wonderful they are. I was sneaking pups into my stories many, many years before my dog Pippin and I adopted one another; it's such a joy to continue to fill the hobbits' lives with these sweet beings.
The Northmen have courageously traveled all this way solely because of the dream Lord Irmo sent, and the faith that this journey will benefit their people.

I am absolutely fascinated by these people of the north and devoured this chapter with much less decorum than Frodo with the birch sugar sweeties!

Thank you for that wonderful compliment! When I started writing, I had only the vaguest idea about these folks, but with each chapter they reveal more of themselves to me. I'm delighted that you're enjoying this so much.

I'm enjoying this so much. I can understand He-án's concerns at the first sight of Annúminas. It had to be overwhelming for him and his people. I love his reactions to the Hobbit's. I don't think they will be disappointed with their trade offerings. :)

I'm so happy you're enjoying this story. It's a true pleasure to bring these scenes to life, and be able to share them.

Trust the children to expect the dogs to be gentle right off! And of course it would be little Pippin who would immediately run right up to them and want to hug them! And love that the older Pippin helps them accept that they do have something to trade!
How much each side has to share with the other!
Author's reply
It would be so couragous of these folk to undertake a long journey without really knowing what or who would be awaiting them. I just love it when people can find 'common ground' and discover that each of them have something to learn from -- and contribute to -- the other.

A great meeting!
I like your description of He-an, who like Aragorn is a true leader of his people. Their sense of responsibility and their natural wariness is shown perfectly when Aragorn reveals the hidden archers and He-an nods with approval.
I'm looking forward to reading more!

An interesting chapter as these two long-sundered peoples meet. Intriguing too that a similar dream came, almost identical the first line. I was singing it in my head to the same tune.

I was inspired by those dream words we all recognize, and wondered whether a similar 'nudge' might not be given to another person, at another time. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

“Nienna,” Arwen murmured, and He-án gasped in wonder.
Nienna ... Narnia? :D
I do hope there wouldn't be any wicked White Witch about to descend on them! Though I believe the Evenstar could, and would, take any White Witch that came along.
Lovely update!
Author's reply
No White Witch for these folka! When I read that Nienna, one of the Valar, was also known as 'Heskil' ("Winter One"), I ran with it. :)

Just got caught up on the last two chapters. I'm fascinated by the people from the ice lands and looking forward to finding out more about them - and their dogs, of course (I am so predictable!) Loved the scene in the previous chapter where everyone got to peek into the palantir and find out what was going on at home. :-))
Author's reply
Thank you, I'm so happy you're reading this tale! Hobbits and dogs... no story should be without them. We will definitely be seeing more of the dogs (which, in my head, look like Newfoundlands).
I do love making sure that Frodo and Sam catch up on anything they missed... such as experiencing a palantir in this tale, and enjoying an Eagle ride in "Return to Rivendell".

I also loved the way you described their meeting with Aragorn and the Hobbits. I can't wait for the next chapter to see how things are going to develop.

Loving this story, Shirebound! The thought of the Ice People and their reunion with the other folk of Middle-earth makes me very happy. As you know, I also love seeing Frodo healed and happy, enjoying his life and interacting with his friends.
Must get down to writing again, but life has been incredibly chaotic recently.

Arvedui had told them of the Ring of Barahir, then? Excellent! I love the whole feeling of the quest now shared with these folk of Forochel, and the adjustment of the other dream that Boromir and Faramir shared that drew these south to such a meeting.
Author's reply
Thank you. It was courageous of Boromir to travel so far in search of the meaning of a dream, and I feel the same way about these folk who had so much less to go on. I'm glad the Professor told us that Arvedui left them his ring; what a wonderful premise to build on.
