Ai! This just gets better and better - first the chain, and now the mead; she doesn't have a chance! I can't wait to see how she handles the healers... But poor Eomer - he's in for a right shock when he finds out that the icicle and the firebrand are one and the same - at least she now knows she's (however inadvertantly) invited his suit. Poor both of them - and Imrahil and Amrothos and Ivriniel! At least his riders just get to be amused by it all, and they'll have such a tale to tell when they get home. :-)
Author's reply
Hello Lyana,
your words about the icicle and firebrand being the same made me laugh because I had this vision of Eomer ending up with a wet puddle - the combination of the two ;-)
But you're right that he's in for a bit of shock. Won't be long now!

I put off reading this tale until I could read several chapters at once, not wanting to get caught in a suspense bind...but thats exactly what happened! I keep thinking of Shakespear's "Comedy of Errors", as the web Lothariel keeps weaving gets more and more tangled. I am so looking forward to the reveal! But I also find I am not eager for the story to end. Its one of the most enjoyable tales Ive read lately. More, please!

Hello Walkerskye,
lol, sorry for the suspense! I'm afraid I like torturing my characters (and my readers) a little. And you're right, it has turned into a bit of a comedy of errors with all the misunderstandings and mistaken identities.
Thank you for your kind words and I promise to update as regularly as possible!

As for the Art of War - one of my fav books.
Really delightful chapter. They are cursed, I thick!

Hello Agape,
yes, one has to be careful around antlions! ;-D As for the Art of War, I can see Ivriniel putting those lessons into practise with great gusto.

I've just sat and read all that's posted so far in one sitting - your story is stunning. It flows well, it's beautifully written, and it's completely entrancing. I love the increasing complications of Lothíriel's guise, and the subtle - and not-so-subtle - hints of her and Eomer's quickly increasing falling for one another (I'm also cheering for Ivriniel and Ealdred, because that's just so lovely).
And the culture differences between Rohan and Gondor are simply genius. It adds another level of subtext - such as the instance with the belt.
Can't wait for your update!
Author's reply
Hello Imladris,
thank you so much for your kind words, I'm really pleased to hear you enjoy the story! Ivriniel has been growing on me, so I thought she deserved a bit of happiness as well, since Eomer and Lothiriel will (eventually) get their happy end. As for the cultural differences between Rohan and Gondor, I really like playing with that, it's a lot of fun.

They are both properly smitten, as appear to be Ivriniel and Eomer's counselor. And he thinks she's not highly enough born? Heh! I'm sorry for the flamingos, but the feathers indeed ought to prove popular in Rohan! And he's thinking of giving her one of the mearas, one named "Ant," while she's sketching antlions? Okay....
Author's reply
Hello Larner,
yes, the animal kingdom seems to have taken over this chapter a bit, but I thought it suited this Lothiriel (there's actually a bit of myself in her there). But of course nothing will come of it, as Gliwen's birth is just too low ;-D

Oh. my. goodness! Just when you think the tension can't go any higher!!! I can't wait to see what you have cooked up for the big reveal for these two. I'm sure the fireworks will be spectacular.
And yes, I did find my own personal Eomer - a good, honorable man with a bit of a temper who always seems to find a way around "no" (his nickname is "The Golden Child"), is very strategic and not above the rare deception (I didn't realize our first date was actually a date, and then didn't realize until two years later that the premise for the date was actually a ruse! The man is good...) So you see, I have a great deal of empathy for your Lotheriel!
But it was all in good cause - we've been married for a very happy 20 years, and he still keeps me off balance. :-)
Author's reply
Hello Lyana,
you'll probably be right about the fireworks ;-)
And I love the idea of your not realizing how you were 'set up' for your first date - almost like something to turn into a story ;-D Your husband sounds a lot like my idea of Éomer.

Hello Galathil,
I have to admit I quite enjoy drawing out the agony of watching poor Lothiriel dig that hole (diligently assisted by her loving family), but of course the truth will have to come out quite soon.

A pure delight to read! I'm absolutely hooked -- and in complete knots over when/how/please-let-it-be-soon that Eomer finds out the truth. I don't think my nails can take much more biting! ;)

sorry to hear about your nails! However, are you sure you want Éomer to find out the truth? For I'm not sure how he'll take it...

no, no, they're only going for a little excursion to the beach, completely harmless! What could possibly happen? ;-)

This was a very funny chapter as our heroine continues to bury herself deeper and deeper in a world of lies. My goodness gracious.
But isn't Eomer interesting, too? *g*

Hello Agape,
lovesick? You must be mistaken, it's all under control. She'll probably draw a diagram next to prove to herself that she can't possibly like him ;-D

Poor thing... she doesn't realize her heart's long gone - nothing left to guard! Her attempt to think logically and rationally had me in stitches (empathetically) due to my own experiences in very logically attempting to explain away certain relational realities with a very disconcerting, persuasive man. :-0
Lord Ealdred and Lady Ivriniel - squeee!
Ooo - and Scary Eomer makes an appearance - love how he turned Dorgan and Elphir into jelly; very useful skill, that!
Author's reply
Hello Lyana,
love and logic don't go together too well, but you have to admit Lothiriel is trying her best ;-) And then as you so aptly named him, Scary Eomer pops in. Poor Lothiriel!
As for Ivriniel, I liked her so much that I wanted to give her a happy ending as well. Rohan will never be the same again...

Both of them are getting in far too deep by this time. I'm looking forward to learning how he will end up being disabused of his belief there ARE two sisters! Love the silkworms! And if she's speaking of babies when leaning over a basket, he OUGHT to have thought at least of kittens or puppies! Too much testosterone? Heh!
Author's reply
Hi Larner,
definitely too much testosterone and not enough brain ;-D I once visited a silk shop where they had live silkworms and you could handle the cocoons, so that gave me the idea.

All I can say is that these two were made for each other - the "abhore deception" line made me LOL! I wonder if she's yet figured out that she spent too much time studying bugs and too little time studying strategy if she wanted to best a warrior king...
What could happen, indeed! :-)

I love that the attempt to turn him off via the local specialties didn't work. The belt sounds lovely, and completely proper to her. As for the fudging of the reason for the honey-moon--how temperate he tries to keep his language! Heh! And she just keeps digging herself in deeper and deeper! Poor thing!
Author's reply
Hello Larner,
I did once write a oneshot where Amrothos serves Eomer octopus cooked in its own ink (a Spanish speciality), but I thought for this one I'd go against expectations. And there will be more mead related customs coming up in a later chapter ;-)

Oh, dear. I believe that I posted a review for this chapter with the last one. I hope it is not too much of a spoiler for someone reading one piece at a time. While I am here, tho; I agree with Larner. This is shaping up like a delightful Shakespearean Romantic Comedy!

The kind of Romantic Comedy is what I had in mind really, just a bit of fun with misunderstandings, pretending to be somebody else and a happy end eventually!
