Sorry you've not got the holiday off. NOT!
All I could think of is that I'd have to wait another day to find out what's going on and my finger nails are shot!
The three amigos didn't cause this problem. Go figure. *g*
Great chapter. Had me on my toes.
Author's reply
Hi Agape. Actually I do have the holiday off because I wrote the next chapter in advance so I could relax. LOL!
Yes, for a change the Three Amigos didn't cause the problem. We'll find out what is really going with Alex in the next chapter.
Thanks for reviewing. Have a nice holiday yourself.

Pui-en-orch! If I may borrow Glorfi's favorite curse! Well that has certainly set the cat loose in the pigion loft! If Ratty does not work for the agency who does he work for and who the h e double hockey sticks is he! Some secret Black Ops agent?
This was turning out to be such a nice chapter too, the Three Amigos were behaving and seemed to be enjoying themselves, there was no bomb under Alex's car, they did good in their classes, well apart from Alex and his mixed up Sindarin, and then Alex gets the e-mail and disapears on them, I hope not to do anything foolish, but knowing Alex Artemus has taken over!
More please, (Hopefull, Puppy Dog Eyes look?)
Huggs,
Lynda
p.s. Back in Cliffee King mode I see, you should get an award for this!
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. We'll find out just what is the truth about Farrell eventually. Not all is as it seems, believe me.
As for Alex/Artemus, we will find out in the next chapter just what he's was up to when he up and disappeared on Derek and the Three Amigos.
And the next chapter will be up on Monday as usual, so you don't have that long of a wait to find out what happens next. Have a good holiday in the meantime and thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's always appreciated.

Loved the chapter title. Glad to know everyone is getting along better. So Farrell is not what he seemed. Somehow I am not shocked, but where is Maddy?
Good reading to start the holiday weekend. Thanks as always.

Hi UTfrog. I'm glad you loved the chapter title. Ithought it apropos. *grin* No, Farrell is not what he seems, but as for where Maddy is, we'll learn that eventually. Have a good holiday weekend and I will be posting the next chapter on Monday as usual, so you'll have something to look forward to. Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Well, I'm glad Nate's around. I shudder at the 'car' implication. I know Alex was angry at the interference, but all he had to do was turn that key.... Yikes!!!! I would be glad for such interference.
Farrell is not someone to be looked upon lightly.
Author's reply
Hi Agape. Well, we don't know just what is wrong with the car and won't learn of that until the next chapter, but you're right that Alex shouldn't be too upset by the interference. Better safe than sorry, right? And Farrell is very dangerous and not to be taken lightly, as we will soon see. Thanks for commenting. It's always appreciated.

*amused* and after the alcohol comes sport XD Violent? They think NFL is VIOLENT? HAH I agree with Alex they should watch some Aussie Rules - and we certainly are an odd bunch ('s what happens when you live in a place where Everything Is Trying To Kill You and your main European influence was a bunch of convicts) And Farrell is back grrrr. I hope something extremely unpleasant happens to him soon. But Derek! Oh Derek, he's MAGNIFICENT. Steady as a rock, and eminently practical. "You’re going to sit here and finish your dinner and we’ll have dessert". Oh wow I think I kinda fell in love with him a little~ He's exactly what Alex/Ambrose needs right now, isn't he.
Author's reply
Hi bookworm. Aussies are strange folk, that's for sure, but they're a lot of fun. I met a number of them while living in China.
Farrell... well, we'll see what comes of him by the end of the tale.
And Derek is magnificent. He's exactly what Alex/Ambrose needs right now. They're becoming more than just roomies or friends, they are truly becoming gwedyr.

· Chapter 63: The Morning After the Night Before
In this chapter, again, we see Derek take charge of his gwador, and stand up a bit to the elves again, before things start to be dealt with. I keep saying "Poor Alex!" as I read this fic. What a horrific nightmare!
I love the idea of all those Elven Healers. They're going to have to know how to deal with Mortals when the Dagor Dagorath happens, so best to get practice now.
I really liked how, in all the concern about Alex, the elves were also concerned about Derek, and his needs. The description of the ellith being evicted from the sunroom was good. You gave me a great mental image of the scene.
And so now we find out a little bit more about Derek (I liked his impression too!).
I liked Derek's interaction with Findelaure in the sunroom, and liked even more, Alex's dragging Findelaure into the kitchen for the hangover remedy. I occurred to me after I wrote the last review, that if they'd alternated each of those deadly drinks with a glass of water, the three amigos would probably still feel horrible, but at least a little bit of the impact might have been moderated. I don't drink, but my friends who do swear that if you keep yourself hydrated with water between alcoholic beverages, you can prevent standard hangovers. Now I do have to agree that the aftermath of the Elven Tour Guide is anything but standard! *wry grin*
I thought it telling in a good way that Findelaure caught himself before saying "the Mortal" and referred to Alex by name.
In any case, It's nice to see that Alex, Derek and the boys are getting along a bit better by the end of this chapter.
One more chapter and I'm caught up! Yay! :-D
Author's reply
Hi Rhyselle. Definitely "Poor Alex" here and it's a good thing Derek was there to help him. And the Elves are sensitive enough to realize that Derek needs some comforting and a chance to vent no less than Alex. Derek is also a forgiving soul and hates to see other suffer, so it's not to be wondered at that he treats Findalaurë as he does here.
You're right about the hydration. In the few times I've indulged in any amount of alcohol, I've drunk a couple of glasses of water before going to bed and that seems to help. I'm less hungover in the morning.
Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

· Chapter 62: Explanations and Apologies
Well, that was interesting to read! I do like how Derek and Alex stood up for themselves. No, mortals don't play by the same rules as elves, and that's something the folk from Valinor as well as the elves who have been resident in Wiseman will have to come to terms with.
It was interesting to see how Derek has stepped forward in the last couple of chapters. No longer just Alex's roommate, he really is Alex's gwador now, and a strong character in his own right.
"'Alex, mate, let her go,' Derek said calmly but with grave authority."
I really liked this line. More and more, Derek reminds me of several sailors that I know from my own Navy career, and he is just the person that Alex needs as his friend and brother as Alex deals with all of the varying levels of stress that he has from trying to sort out and integrate his own identity with the alter-egos he's created and lived over his time with the Agency (not to mention the stress of dealing with Farrell's mucking about with his mission. The military isn't exactly like spy work, but Derek has enough experience with military intelligence to understand where Alex is coming from, and he's got the steadiness, ability to focus, and the courage that Alex needs when the spy's world starts going off-kilter.
I don't really feel sorry for Nielluin; what she said to Alex was rather foolish. But she really hadn't seen the worst of him yet. I would hope that she would take him more seriously in the future. Alex isn't immortal and doesn't have the elves' physical strength and stamina, but he has been trained to be a ruthless killing machine, a critical thinker, and is darned good at what he's been trained to do.
Of course, I'm sure that this chapter's conversations will take some time for the characters to absorb (and me too!), so maybe there will be future opportunities for the new (and old!) elves to learn not to discount what our mortal lead characters are capable of.
Well done!
Author's reply
Hi Rhyselle. Derek rather shines in these most recent chapters. As you say, he's becoming more than Alex's roommate; he's become Alex's gwador and an ally of the Elves. And whether Alex knows it or not, he needs Derek. Derek, in a way, is replacing Junior as Alex's closest friend, and unlike Junior, he will not betray that friendship.
Nielluin has her own problems. She's a bit arrogant, to say the least, and she has not taken Alex's measure and does not really understand that the Mortals can be just as deadly as the Elves when suffiicently trained.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's much appreciated.

I'm catching up again. :-)
I rather enjoyed watching the three amigos go through the drinks tour list, although I admit to shuddering at the thought of anyone ingesting even one of those concoctions! Things weren't going too horribly until Elennen and Findalaurë got into that fight. I rather feel badly for all of them now.
I don't know if any of the other reviewers mentioned it, but I'm more than a bit leery of Patty, that girl who knows all of those languages... it seems a tad "convenient", in some ways. But then I've been trying to figure out who could be Farrell's Academy contact ever since we realized he's really a bad guy, so maybe her language facility could simply just be a coincidence of a plot device which serves to make the protagonists nervous. *grin*
Those lads are really going to hate themselves in the morning...
I love the description of how Finrod looked when Alex looked up at the end of the chapter. I do feel that he's probably going to pull out his book of appropriate and creative punishments again...
I do love going back and re-reading your stories, Fiondil. Going back and re-reading the earlier chapters of this fic has been fun too. I just wish that my brain would quit making my fingers type a different alliterative name than the one I meant to type ("Derek" vice "Daeron", and suchlike) when I review.
As usual, very well done! :-)
Author's reply
Hi Rhyselle. Patty is just someone who happens to be conversant in some of the Scandinavian and Russian languages. It's just unfortunate that Alex chose Finland as the place of origin for the three amigos. It just goes to show that the intelligence officers screwed up by not coming up with a backstory for the Elves beforehand. Serves them right, I say. LOL!

I was wondering when Ratty would show up again, nasty little man! I wonder if he was a bully when he was in school, he sounds just like he could have been. It would be interesting to find out whio is feeding him information. Did Derek make a good guess at who he was or has Alex given him a description? Just who were those two 'Loggers', interested bystanders or something else?
Good to see Nate again, he always looks and is stunning! Loved his little warning to the three Amigos, the Valar do love the Children especially when they are children!
Poor Alex, he is going to need a long holiday when this is all over, but it looks like we still have two to three months of Fiondil angst to get through!

It would seem Farrell is back to his old tricks again if certain people can't drive their own cars again. If he can't get Amroth out of the way let's try for his student Alex then, he's much easier to get to. That guy's not playing with a full deck.
I wouldn't be surprised if those two loggers weren't Maiar in disguise looking out for the kids. Nice to see Nate again. Glad Glorfindel and Findel showed up when they did or there would be some very unhappy family members.
Now that Farrell is back in the picture, things are going to get very interesting.

Did "Nate" tell Glorfindel and Finrod to get those five home? And why didn't he tell Alex if there's a bomb under his car? This may sound odd, but it was good to see Farrell (at least, now we know he's still there and doesn't know everything about the Elves). Otherwise, this was a nice and calm chapter and the three Amgos did nothing stupid for a chance.
Author's reply
Hi someone. I'm sure Nate, or one of the Maiar alerted Glorfindel. As for what may or may not be wrong with the car, we'll learn about that in the next chapter. · Chapter 64: After the Game
So the three ellyn think football is violent, do they? They should be used to the annual tournament back in Aman, when the various contestants do their level best to pound each other into the ground. And also the practice beforehand, when the wannabe contestants practice the pounding-into-the-ground.
Now, I don't really know anything about American-style football - on this side of the pond it's soccer that is the big thing, but I don't really follow that either.
So now Derek has met "Nate", and come out of that meeting still cool as a cucumber. But then Nate was in civvies, so to speak, so he would have appeared to be a quite normal person until the end, when he disappeared into thin air. Derek would certainly have guessed that something was up, given the reactions of the three young Elves, and with a bit of thought he would probably have figured out just who Nate was.
I find myself wondering a bit about those loggers that were so conveniently on hand to help Derek out with his confrontation with Farrell. Were they loggers, or were they something else? _Someone_ clearly was on guard, and caught Farrell fiddling with Alex' car, at least.
I hope Alex will be able to sleep this night. The previous night was very bad for him, and the day certainly wasn't a good one - especially as it ended with a face to face meeting with Námo, which was unlikely to do his poor, frazzled nerves any good.
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Oh, I'm sure they are used to the tournaments and probably even have participated in them, but I think Finda's comment refers to the fact that the three amigos probably did not expect to see this kind of violent entertainment among Mortals. A naive assumption, but these three know next to nothing about Mortals and certainly nothing about how modern Mortals entertain themselves with football and other sports.
Derek is pretty cool and as for the loggers, who can really say if they were who they appeared to be or something else entirely? We'll never know for sure. We should just be thankful they were there to help Derek and Alex out.
And I'm sure Alex will be okay. He's tougher than he looks and meeting Nate with his gwador beside him probably helped him not to freak out. *grin*
Thanks for reviewing. I am very appreciative.

So, the elves came up with that list of toxic brews? What did they expect to happen if something like this hangs on the wall in a bar? They need to do something about it, or he is a danger to himself and everyone around. They still have Farrell to deal with and Alex as a loose cannon is not a good idea.

Hi obsidianj. Well, as Glorfindel said, it was only meant as a joke and the Elves didn't expect anyone to actually take the challenge. In these last three chapters one can just see the disaster coming...It's very difficult for me to read something where I know it can get only worse and the characters just continue to act stupidly (what were they thinking, taking those three Elves to a bar with other students to witness their behavior!). I wonder what those students in the bar thought about it all. But somehow that bar night cleared thing between the Elves, Alex and Derek, so perhaps it was for the best after all.
"Hates your guts. Thinks you’re the bane of his existence. Wishes he could safely strangle you and stuff your body into a deep, dark crevasse where it will never be found. But he doesn’t despise you." That was priceless!
Derek's "job interview" was also great, in the future it'll prove how well he adapts to different jobs... if he survives the Elf Academy first, which doesn't seem to be easy. Are there all the time normal studies going on for the other students in the Academy, or have the problems and the arrival of new elves mixed everything?
Author's reply
Hi someone. Yeah, they were all heading for disaster and stupidity, as they say, is, next to hydrodgen, the most common element in the universe. *grin*
And Derek is very adaptable, which is an asset in any situation. As for the other students, they are still engaged in their normal studies. Even Alex and Derek are still attending classes, as we will see shortly. The arrival of the Valinórean Elves haven't changed things much for them yet and most are unaware of their existence.

Alex seems to have come out of his fuge state, Finrods playing has helped and I think being among those who know his history has also helped. I think most people have forgotten just how soon after his little tumble down the hill this is all happening, it can only have been a few weeks at most and he is still recovering.

Hi Lynda. I don't know if they will deal with the Watcher too soon. I suspect that Glorfindel would like to just keep an eye on it and not do anything to wake it up, a case of "let's leave sleeping orcs lie".
Anyway, Finrod's harp-playing has helped, and given who he is, I can't imagine his playing not helping, especially since he's had all these millennia to perfect his technique. *grin* And it's only been a couple of weeks since Alex's tumble, so he is still in a fragile state.

Poor Alex, that doesn't sound good. This job is destroying him, I really wonder what would have become of him if he hadn't ended up at the Academy and with the Elves. They might be the only ones able to help him. At that rate, the Agency might have ended up killing him because he becomes a security risk – for himself and others.
Now I am glad Finrod came; his music really appears to help Alex.
Glad to see the youngster is coming around. Though I can't recommend that method to make friends ;) In the end, he got along with Alex rather well.
Hmmm ... I'd fear Finrod more than Celeborn, too. He seems much more ruthless.

Hi Kitty. I think you're right about the job destoying Alex which is why the Elves want him to leave the Agency and join forces with them. He'll do a lot better with them than with the Agency.

While Alex is somewhat right that the three Elves aren't exactly children any more, I'm not sure it was a good idea to scream that fact out so publicly. Oh well, what's done is done. Some already know, and the others hopefully forget about it.
*sigh* Don't like it that Alex attacked Nielluin. That was rather uncalled for. It seems he really can't take much more, though there's still the problem Farrell hanging over them. If I'm not mistaken, Thanksgiving and with it that deadline is coming rather close. So Alex can't afford to react that badly to something rather harmless.
Amazing how the Elves order everyone around and the mortals do it. Though again, Finrod hinted at their true identity with quite a few strangers around.
Hm ... does that mean that the Valar or Maiar intervened once again?
Alex taking charge and talking with Finda that way was a bit surprising, but nice. All in all, it seems things weren't as bad as I initially feared.
Boring? Ha! Alex and Derek may not know it, but they are in the company of some of the worst troublemakers in all of Valinor. That has to be rubbing off on them, after all!
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. I think Alex was so angry at Finrod that he just wasn't thinking and some of the Academy students, like Jack, would already know about the Elves and certainly the locals would as well. And, of course, with Farrell in the background somewhere, he's really stressed so Nielluin's comments just sent him around the bend and Artemus took over for a few minutes. And whatever Alex's problems he is mature enough to know when he's in the wrong so apologizing to Findalaurë was a smart move on his part.
It does seem as if possibly one of the Maiar on watch had a hand in calling for Glorfindel and Finrod but we'll probably never know the truth

*snicker* Now that's a strange menu Elennen chose!
Patty was definitely speaking the wrong languages too well. But who would have expected it? Luckily Findalaurë had the idea with the vow only to speak English, that should help – until they speak Quenya ...
*sigh* Baiting the three into that challenge wasn't their best idea, was it? Pity Elennen didn't win the argument. From the descriptions, I'd not have managed even the first drink, truth be told. Nightmare indeed! But then, I prefer water anyway. Less dangerous, and tastes much better.
Oh, and btw, Ellie found really funny names for the drinks!
I should probably feel sorry for Calandil and the other two for being so sick, but I can't really say I do. They should not have taken the challenge in the first place. Typical male.

Ha, Mithlas too! Nice to see more and more familiar names pop up.
On the one hand, it's good when Farrell leaves them alone, but on the other hand, I find it slightly suspicious. As is the fact that Alex didn't hear anything from the Agency yet, even after sending the papers. Did someone intercept his post?
Well, to use Alex and Derek, of all people, as babysitter for the three amigos is something I'd not have tried, but oh well. It's your risk, not mine ;)
*grin* I guess our two intelligence officers should have thought about the backstory for the three Elves a bit beforehand. That didn't go too well.

Hi Kitty. There are a lot of things about modern life that makes you realize what an undertaking it will be to integrate the Valinórean Elves into Wiseman society.
