Now, THAT is true love, perfectly expressed! I DO love our Lord King Elessar!

Author's reply

It must take a consummate politician indeed to turn an event like this and transform it into something positive.

Larner · 6 September 2011 · Chapter 24

Now, that was LOW, but supremely effective! I do love his ploy as well, of course--Faramir could regale me with love poetry ANY time he pleased! Heh!

Author's reply

Well, they're certainly well suited for each other!

Larner · 6 September 2011 · Chapter 23

Ah, but wait until he actually SEES! So, he's taken a child begging, eh? Wonder what our Lord King will think of this!

Author's reply

Probably exactly what you'd expect.

I am reminded at this point of a certain kind of riding-dress, which Eomer may wish he is wearing at this point. The costume is supplied with a false leg, carefully dressed and booted to match the wearer. The rider appears to be riding sidesaddle, with two neatly clad feet on the proper side, and a great poof of skirt cascadeing on the other (completely covering the real leg neatly stirruped on that side.)This works best with excessively frilly outfits. Eomer better watch out, or Lotheriel will remember this in detail for later (even if she isn't involved with him yet.)

Author's reply

Yes, unfortunately, since Faramir isn't a woman, and this whole thing was rather sprung upon him, he doesn't know about the false leg trick.

I suddenly got a mental image of Galadriel regaling Finrod Felagund, King Finarfin and assorted others with tales of the day's events. And Finrod making some comment about it being nice to see that doing crazy things for love still ran in Luthien and Beren's line.

Author's reply

Oh, dear! He would, wouldn't he? :D

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 22

Faramir must be ready to strangle the Hobbit! Poor Faramir--this must be so difficult for both these noble men!

Author's reply

Fortunately for Merry, Faramir is a man of self-control.

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 21

The horror of it! Poor Faramir! A corset is not worn lightly! Heh!

Author's reply

Especially one that doesn't fit!!

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 20

Oh, dear! The wine lost? Too bad, this!

Author's reply

Yup, just another wrench in the works of the day...

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 19

No, let's not have any Hobbit light-skirts represented here! Heh! But what do Aragorn and Faramir think of their get-up?

Author's reply

Not that there are hobbit light-skirts (flirts, maybe, but these are *decent* folk, remember?) but it's still important not to sully a nonexistent reputation.

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 18

Excellent! Most excellent!

Author's reply

Thank you!

Larner · 1 September 2011 · Chapter 17

Frodo needed the laughter, and I'm so glad to see the ladies both laughing at the get-ups of Merry and Pippin! Bless them and their lack of foolish modesty.

Author's reply

*grin*

Lynn H · 31 August 2011 · Chapter 22

They are facing this *cold sober*? Of course the hobbits would, being so resistant to alcohol anyhow - but Aragorn and Faramir? The Ambassador? Oh my! Will the long day end with Someone turning water into wine? Will the Ambassador respect them in the morning for NOT blurring his mind? Do the Khandis consider pure snowmelt water to be a precious resource worthy of serving your most honored guests? (After all, they do come from desert lands.)

Author's reply

That's not all the alcohol in the city, just the royal stores. Have no fear on that account.

Larner · 29 August 2011 · Chapter 16

Ah! He so needed that! Yes, laughter is this time the best medicine! And I be the chief cook is a bear to live with at that time of the morning--but it was worth it to have Frodo laugh like that!

Author's reply

Oh, it was entirely worth it!!

Larner · 29 August 2011 · Chapter 15

And to have this as the memory he cannot escape is terrible! Poor Frodo!

Author's reply

It's not so much that he can't escape it, it's that he has to keep returning to it to do the story justice, only every time he tries he finds he can't write it down, so he waits, and then tries again...

Lynn H · 29 August 2011 · Chapter 16

CURTSIED!?!? And outside the door Merry & Pippen leaned against the wall and enjoyed the sound of Frodo's hilarity. I just BET that head cook was grumpy! Two foreign prince-lings in fancy dress invading HIS kitchen! Surely they have platters for Sam and themselves waiting in the hall?

Author's reply

I'm sure they did listen in! They might have been considerate enough to bring Sam a cold platter (after all, it's a while yet before dawn), but they've been promised refreshment upon their arrival at the Citadel.

Rhyselle · 29 August 2011 · Chapter 16

More please? This is so hysterically funny! I'm having to stifle my laughter because I'm in the office (eating lunch) and I really don't think that my co-workers would understand just why I'm chortling like a fool. *grin* I think I have a bit of an idea where this is going and I look forward to seeing just what happens when Aragorn and Faramir appear in feminine sartorial glory in front of the whole court. I have a sneaking feeling that the ambassador from Khand might just take this event very differently than the King and Steward are thinking. Well done! :)

Author's reply

*grin* There's a good deal more to come, believe you me! Thanks!

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 14

Eomer fled, did he? Which did he flee the more--the idea of himself wearing a woman's gown, or himself caught in the bonds of matrimony? We wants to know, we doesss, gollum! Heh!

Author's reply

I'm not sure if Eomer himself knows! *snicker*

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 13

Not even his ada will aid him, then? And I'm certain that Elrond was laughing uproariously once Aragorn left the room! Hehehehehe!

Author's reply

No, Arwen has a greater claim on him now. And yes, Elrond finds all of this highly amusing!

Lynn H · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 14

You've got me. My mind is reeling, wondering how many of the cast are going to show up in skirts in the morning. I also wonder if the REAL Khandis, the ones that stayed in the tents in that old story, are female? Amazons, to be specific, like the two Sam & Frodo were almost discovered by at the Gates (movie version)? So in MY mindscape, quivering with laughter: the hidden Amazons are going to be delighted with the elaborate joke, revealing how the men of Gondor cherish and obey their women. Discovering it's all the result of a bet on a fight where the woman soldier trounced the man would only make it better. Finally (I get sillier as the night goes on here) the Khandis (hmm, pronounced 'Candace, the hereditary name of the Queen?) will reveal herself and only parlay with the women! Don't worry about me. I expect I'm completely wrong, of course. You are writing the story, not me - and I really really look forward to wantching the antics unfold!

Author's reply

Those were supposed to be Amazons? So far as I could tell all the times I saw the films, they were just men in guyliner. At any rate, if I were using that as a basis for an Amazon culture, surely someone in Gondor's past would have run into these woman-warriors--after all, the main way they've encountered Khand in the past has been in battle. The Khandis is the simply what the Gondorians would translate as "king," which is how they refer to him in the few texts they have--a title, not a name, and it only belongs to the chief ruler of Khand. (I suppose I could have gone for a different organization of society, but way back in Western Civilization the east is generally associated with despotism [good or bad] of some sort. I can't imagine that Sauron's influence would have allowed for much variation, either.) Anyway, I loved reading your speculations! I hope you'll stay tuned and see how it all turns out!

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 12

And I suspect he is exactly right about Sam having needle and thread.

Author's reply

Of course, he is! I only hope Sam didn't ask what they needed it for...

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 11

Another sacrificial victim vainly seeking an ally, eh? Perhaps they should seek to involved Eomer, too!

Author's reply

Oh, that'll only happen once Faramir gets really desperate...

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 10

Using osanwe isn't quite fair, I believe; but I can see why Aragorn would want allies in this matter. Poor guy!

Author's reply

No, it really isn't fair, but once Arwen gets an idea in her head...

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 9

Ah, dear--if nothing else, send Frodo into a state of shock? Now, this is definitely mad.

Author's reply

Well, a little harmless madness never hurt anyone, did it?

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 8

Not exactly the way the menfolk had envisioned the next day, I'm certain. Yawp!

Author's reply

Nope! *grin*

Larner · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 7

Hmm. Wonder what the next few days' escapades will do to Frodo's appetite? Although laughter does have a healing effect!

Author's reply

Well, a lot of that will depend on if he can get that writing done.
