What a lovely wedding, and for once the important part went over without a hitch...almost. Depends on you point of view (if you think the ceremony or the cake is more important ;-)).
What was Isildil thinking? Elves are immortal and have veeery long memories. Leaving the country is also not an option... After this, his name will be known everywhere. First he got some good punches in, and then he has to face the royalties and very angry guests at the wedding... *shakes head*
And what are the Valar up to?
Author's reply
Hi obsidianj. I'm glad you found the wedding lovely and it was nice that that part of it went off without a hitch, isn't it? *grin*
And Isidil... well what can one say about that kind of person?
And we'll find out in the next chapter what the Valar are up to.
Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Well I am happy that horrible Isildil got what he deserved, he really is a bad piece of work. Now I would like to know what is going to be of him, I mean it's quite evident that he won't ever be a Master Cook again and he blackened HIS name in front of the 3 royal courts and the nobles of the Noldor, Vanyar and Teleri, also in front of the Sindar, etc. I wouldn't be at all angry or surprised if he is expelled from the kitchens of Aman, that horrible elf deserves it, I mean he just blames everyone for his faults and doesn't sees his part in it!!!!
Also i have a question from the last chapters, it's been bothering me, hihihihi, why didn't Glorfindel know Aracano???? I mean if he used to play with Artanis and later on with Turucano, why didn't he know his brothers???? Because he also said that he knew Findecano only by name... And going in the same line why didn't Arafinwe knew of him in the beginning since as I mentioned before he used to play with Artanis????
Is Glorfindel of the first generation of elves born in Aman???? I mean did his parents came from the Awakening along with Finwe, Olwe, Elwe and Ingwe????? Or were they born in the Long Journey to Aman????? If so Glorfindel doesn't have any grandparents???
Author's reply
Hi Monalex. You raise some good questions. Here are my answers, for what they're worth. In the type of society that the Elves have, which is fairly medieval, it is unlikely that Arafinwë would have little or no knowledge of what his children were up to while they were still in the nursery. Who the children played with would not have been a concern of his; that would have been the purview of any nannies and governesses on hand.
Also remember, Glorfindel is a Reborn, and not every memory is available to him, so he not recognizing Aracáno right off would not be considered odd. No doubt, once he knew who Aracáno was his memory would have returned to some degree. Because several centuries can separate siblings it's possible that a young Glorfindel simply wouldn't have any contact with older brothers and such. So, for instance, Glorfindel knew of Finrod but had nothing to do with him per se because he was much younger than Finrod.
Glorfindel is most likely of the same generation as Finrod, so he would be second generation. I have no idea if he has grandparents living in Aman or not. He hasn't said and since none have come forward, I must assume they are not there. One has to remember that Tolkien doesn't give us any background infrmation on Glorfindel so I've been making it up as I go along. It was the longest time before I ever found out what happened to his parents and why they were not there to greet him when he was released from Lórien or why he never mentioned them. Maybe grandparents will show up someday. *grin*
I hope I've been able to answer your questions to some degree. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated.
Author Reply: Sorry. "In the type of society that the Elves have, which is fairly medieval, it is unlikely that Arafinwë would have little or no knowledge of what his children were up to while they were still in the nursery."
That should read: "... it is likely...". Thanks, Lynda, for pointing out the error.

Atto,
If I should ever chance to get married, I hope my wedding dress will be as nice as Amarie's! And not horrible like Almariel wanted to make it! (Ick. Dragon suits her, honestly.)
Why didn't the Valar show up at the wedding? :( I hope they'll come later! Were they there in spirit? I hope so!
ARGHHHH! ISILDIL!!!!! I just knew that no good son of an orc was up to SOMETHING! Salt on the cake! That horrible, evil, no-good...*sputters incomprehensibly*
It's a good thing he was CAUGHT!!!
I hope something can be done about a new cake!!!
*hugs Finrod and Amarie* The wedding ceremony was lovely though! And I always enjoy seeing the elflings!!
More elflings is always good!
Anyway, Atya, I hope Marilla shows herself to be Marillien in the next chapter. This has to have been the LONGEST week ever since the last chapter. Yes yes, I know, it was seven days. But they were the longest seven days EVER. (And my Ada is coming over NEXT Wednesday so I can go to my neurologist appointment and Naneth can go to her procedure at seven in the MORNING on Thursday. Ada's staying the night. This will go over *really* well, Atarinya. *sarcasm* I've told you what he can be like.) Anyway, hopefully I can read more Wedding before my appointment, and re-read it during Naneth's, maybe on my Nook or something. :)
I can't wait to see what Marillien (*is not giving up on that*) does to Isildil!
Tye-melinye, Atarinya!

Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. We'll find out why the Valar didn't show in the next chapter. But don't worry; they may not have been there physically but they were there in spirit and didn't miss anything.
And we'll find out about Marilla in the next chapter, as well, I promise.
I hope everything goes well with your doctor's appointment and with your naneth.

It's nice to something go off with out a hitch, this wedding has been a comedy of errors almost from start to finish! Loved the wedding clothes, much better colour combination than the originals.
Isildil just had to go and spoil things didn't he, if he finds himdelf a job boiling swill for pigs I will be surprised, it's about the closest he will get to cooking for someone other than himself!
I have missed you updates, it seems like it has been agaes since we had one and yes I know it was only last week but it seems forever!
Huggs,

Author's reply
Hi Lynda. Well, I decided to have pity on Finrod and Amarië and allowed the ceremony itself to be flawless. They needed the break. *grin*
We'll see what happens to Isildil in the next chapter.
Sorry the wait between chapters seems so long. See how spoiled you are? LOL! At least you only have to wait a week instead of months or even years for the next installment.

Oh my dear Fiondil, I do so adore your clothing descriptions. They place the perfect framework for the elf in my mind and I can see the characters so clearly. The colors and decorative portions of the brocade were just perfect for these two.
I have a large, very tall, Linden tree in my back yard. I'm afraid that I tend to consider it a wonderful device for shade in the summer, and a pain to rake in the fall, but I have never thought of it as a symbol of conjugal love. I will look at it with different eyes from this point.

LOL, can't say I disagree about Almáriel being an old dragon, no matter how useful she is. But if Ingwion doesn't like that name, we can always return to calling her a balrog, right? ;)
Awww - now *that* wedding garb sounds so much more lovely than what Almáriel came up with! In fact, it sounds beautiful and totally appropriate for Finrod. The same goes for Amarië's dress, which sounds the perfect fit to Finrod's. Morwen has done an outstanding job! I am sure that will help to show the more prejudiced Amanians that the Tol Eressëans are very gifted as well.
All in all it was a wonderful ceremony, and I was glad that Nolofinwë got through the oaths without freaking out.
So that was how Isildil ruined the cake ... what an idiot! Did he really think some petty revenge would be worth his career and good name? He should have known that he would be the very first suspect. I was so glad that he didn't get away and got a few good punches in the process - can't harm at all, right? Now I am just curious what his punishment will be ... and I suspect you are going to reveal Marilla's identity, too.
Can't wait for next Wednesday!
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. I'm glad you liked the new wedding garb. A definite improvement over the old ones. *grin*
And Isildil is indeed an idiot. Oh well... even the Elves weren't immune to that particular vice at times.

The garments Morwen made are definitely in better taste than what almáriel had made! :-)
It sounds as if Isildil is working hard to make himself the least popular ellon in Tirion - and it looks like he is succeeding, too! Messing up the wedding cake of the beloved heir to a beloved king - and then making snarky comments about it to the onlookers! No wonder he almost started a riot!

· Chapter 29: In Which There are Final Preparations and the Wedding Day Arrives
So Isildil is still plotting revenge? And he thinks he can do it without getting himself suspected? I really hope that's backfiring spectacularly and he thrown out of the guild indefinitely. I wonder if Marilla is giving him this task because she suspects what he is planning? Oh well, we'll know soon.
Hach, I always had a sneaking suspicion that, if Amarië was actually fleeing to Tol Eressëa, she was going to try on her wedding gown made by Finrod's old friend – who most likely is doing his own as well.
Oh, you included my favourite elflings into the ceremony! Great! I was already beginning to miss them, particularly Veryandur.
Now I can't wait for Almáriel to see that everyone has better taste than she has! Though I admit, no matter how much I look forward to the wedding, I am still nervous what will happen this time, even with all the Maiar and other help around to avoid just that ...
And now I'm all caught up and have to wait for the day after tomorrow for the next chapter :(

· Chapter 28: In Which the Bride and Groom Make Up and Arafinwë Breaks Down
Why do I suspect Amarieë's problem is that she thought Finrod was fine with the horrible taste her mother showed in everything and was angry at him for allowing it? And I am happy that Arafinwë put his foot down about the china and Almáriel's behaviour. Being Noldóran has its use, no doubt :D
But poor Finrod. On top of everything that happened lately, that had to be too much for him. No wonder he reacted the way he did!
Hm, I was not exactly right, I see. How noble of her! Or not, depending on if she did it just to punish Almáriel. And I have to admit, I was smirking because they had so many witnesses when she laid all the blame on the balrog. No one deserved it more ...
So now the Noldóran is the one who needs some comforting ... not really surprising, after his brother and nephews being thrown at him like that on top of all the other incidents. I think we are all glad when that wedding is over!
Author's reply
I think Amarië had just had enough of her mother's interference in her wedding and ran away to get away from her. It's unfortunate that Finrod got caught in the middle but at leas the air has been cleared and they've made up.
And Arafinwë's break down was long overdue. Now that is over with he can go on himself.
And EVERYONE will be glad when this wedding is finally over. LOL!

· Chapter 27: In Which There are Family Meetings and the Bride Makes an Appearance
Nolofinwë is rapidly rising in my respect. I'm glad he's not interested in replacing his brother as the Noldóran; it would cause so much fighting if he did it at this point in time.
*shakes head* All these Reborn have a strange influence on the others. Now even Arafinwë is acting like an elfling! But at least they have fun to relieve some of the stress.
Well, Anairë had a rather ... hands-on method to greet her husband after all these centuries ... While I understand her anger, that was not exactly helpful for the Reborn. I wonder how much damage she did to their relationship ... no wonder her children like Eärwen better!
So Nolofinwë doesn't even know what sharing the bed means. That's going to be a bit awkward, I guess.
And to topp the chapter off, you had to drop another bombshell ... you are evil, did I tell you that before?
Author's reply
Nolofinwë is no dummy and he knows he's not ready to rule anything and what he said about Arafinwë is true and for that reason alone Arafinwë is the rightful Noldóran.
And I think Arafinwë is just glad to have his brother back and is reminding Nolofinwë of when they were both younger and the teasing they did between each other. I'm sure Nolofinwë appreciated it.
And Anairë has a lot of issues but I'm sure eventually it'll all get straightened out.

The chapter title isn't exactly comforting, you know ... again!
I liked these discussions about the Reborn, their experiences and development, how they are different from each other and from their former selves. Yes, it all sounds very likely.
Ouch. I knew something was going to happen, but had that idiot not only to recognize Nolofinwë, but run out and scream it out to the masses? I was really worried when the two Reborn were panicking, but Ingwion did a great job in protecting them and getting through to these idiots. And I was really pleased when Nolofinwë got over his panic so fast and acted the way he did. He can be very proud of himself, considering how newly released he was. The end had me snickering when he went back to elfling mode – but it should drive the point home that he's nowhere near ready to rule anyone!
Author's reply
Nolofinwë has a long way to go but he can rise to the occasion when the situationo demands it and in going into elfling-mode when he did he protected not only himself but Findecáno from those who would want to make them kings all over again. That should keep them safe for a long time.

Arafinwë dumped cold water over the Elder King? Now that would be a nice story ... :D
Poor Finrod, it must feel so bad to realize that something happened with him and he doesn't even know what! Though I was glad Arafinwë had Almáriel thrown out of the room, she would make it even worse.
Ha, it seems Vairë shares the common opinion of that ugly wedding dress! Glad she did not restore it. And if Almáriel doesn't like that, she can take it up with that particular Valië herself!
So now pretty much all our favourite troublemakers are back together. Let's see if Tirion survives that ...
Arafinwë handled the three new Reborn very well, giving them a purpose to look forward to. I think that is what they need, particularly the two who have been kings before and would feel out of place and useless with nothing to do.
Um ... not sure if it's a good idea if they go shopping all together. I shudder to think of the mischief they could get into by that! And I see Finrod shares that sentiment.
Author's reply
The story of Arafinwë dumping cold water on Manwë is found in my tale "In Darkness Bound". You'll need to read that to find out more.
It was pretty embarrassing for Finrod, no doubt, but at least he's been assured that no one really blames him for what happened and they can all move on.
Giving the Reborn a purpose is very important since most of them are at a loss as to what they're supposed to do now that they've been reborn, especially those who were in positions of responsibility in their former lives.

· Chapter 23: In Which Finrod Has Nightmares and Námo Comes to the Rescue
Would you be terribly surprised to know that I was cheering Castamir on when he shut his wife up? His remark that Almáriel has only herself to blame for her daughter running away just confirmed what I suspected all along.
Hmmm ... burning that horrid garb sounds like a good idea. More permanent than the privy, and not retrievable, no matter how much of a temper tantrum Almáriel would throw.
Ugh, that was really some nightmare! I was quite upset when Finrod turned up in the sewing room in that state. That balrog-elleth really got to him! Can't we have her have some serious accident, so she is missing the wedding altogether? Would be better for everyone's state of mind and serve her right!
A Song of Power to destroy that dress was impressive, but a bit excessive. What a waste of his power! But then, maybe not ... But when Glorfindel came running and had to counter that, I was really worried. We all know what happened last time they did that! Thank God Námo turned up before the damage got too bad and took over from Glorfindel.
Of course Glorfindel is right – damn Almáriel!
Author's reply
I'm sure a lot of people were cheering Castamir on, Kitty, so you are in good company. *grin*
Well, the Song of Power is a bit excessive but Finrod thinks he's battling Sauron, not ugly wedding clothes. *LOL!* At least Námo was able to put a stop to his shenanigans with a little help from Glorfindel who was the only one who could've kept Finrod from completely destroying everything and everyone in sight.

I see they have the same doubts and worries as I do – how to present these three Reborn to the people and how not to overwhelm the Reborn with the reactions.
LOL, of course Námo is right – with Finrod and Glorfindel around, there is always something happening. Aman must have been sooo boring while they were in Middle-earth or Mandos!
Oh God. That wedding dress would go well with the china, no doubt, but frankly, I'd not want to be caught dead in it! Poor Finrod. I'm waiting for the explosion right now ... and just for the record, Glorfindel's idea with the privy sounds about right.
While I feel somewhat sorry for Eärwen, I admit that Ingwion's departing comment sounded rather fitting. How can they put Finrod through that?
Author's reply
Well, we knew the wedding garb would be ugly with Almáriel involved. What Finrod ends up doing with it remains to be seen. And as hard as it was to hear, I think Ingwion's words to Eärwen were spot on, myself. Someone needed to call her and Almáriel to account. Thanks for commenting, Kitty.

Just the title made me snicker – more seating arrangements? Eärwen will rip her hair out! And they will need someone to have a very close eye on these new Reborn.
Yeah, Sador will be stuck with his job a while longer. Not even I want to see the chaos these former kings would cause if anyone gave them that much responsibility coming with the rule of Tol Eressëa.
Hm ... Irmo wants Lórien to survive a while longer, but what about poor Arafinwë? With these three added to the mix ...?
Glad Finrod had the foresight to not lead them all straight through Tirion. First, I suspect it would overwhelm the Reborn, and second, to be confronted with them without warning would be a bit much for his father. Not to mention that this reunion is such a private matter.
All in all, that went quite well, and I am glad for them. Though I still can't shake the feeling off that this will cause more mayhem ...
Author's reply

Poor Edrahil. I think Finrod is right about the reasons for his recurring dream. He must feel bad for not helping his king, even though he did something important.
Oh, I knew it, that china sounds not exactly beautiful – to put it mildly. The guests would need sunglasses to dampen the effect.
Ouch. The reactions of the Reborn are horrible! There's no way they can use that china, or there's no telling how many elves will end up in that state! I was glad Vardamir understood what was happening and took charge and explained. And it was good the Maiar came and were able to help so fast.
Um ... don't repack the china very well and then make sure to put it somewhere where it is likely to be 'accidentally' destroyed? I could even offer our ponies – I remember vividly the chaos they caused when someone forgot to bolt the door and they got into the storeroom where we have food, saddles and everything else ... *shudders* It took me forever to clean up that mess! Glad they remembered to tell Eärwen about the fourteen additional guests of very high rank. Though I feel sorry for her. But the idea to move the whole thing to the park and how to handle the seating arrangements sounds good.
These language lessons are a good idea, the Amanians need to learn Sindarin as much as the elves from Endorë need to learn Quenya. And I wouldn't mind if they taught the Lambengolmor a lesson, not at all!
Author's reply
No doubt Eärwen appreciated the heads-up on the Valar. And it only make sense that Sindarin be taught since so many people speak it and it would go a long way towards easing some of the tension between the two groups of Elves.

Glad Eärwen talked with Finrod about some aspects of the wedding. It will smooth things over a bit, I think. And now Sador is coming, yay! Of course, I would be interested to hear about some of what he did on Tol Eressëa as well.
Sador dreamed about that incident with the fishes? Now that is unexpected. And the fish telling him to go to Tirion even more.
Though I was snickering about the red painted shed. Painting other people's places seems to be a favoured pastime for the Reborn.
Nice ending to the chapter :D

I'm sure Arafinwë and Eärwen have written a book to that effect, or if they haven't, they should. It would certainly come in handy, right up there with their son's book on creative punishments for recalcitrant elflings and other underlings. LOL!

· Chapter 15: In Which They Go on a Picnic and Finrod Let’s His Hair Down
Hm ... strange what repercussions that Oath is having on Finrod. I hope that doesn't happen too often. Sure, it can be a warning of sorts that one of his vasalls is in danger, but imagine he's just out swimming and something like that happens again ... that could be quite dangerous. Seems to be a two-edged sword. Though Glorfindel's conclusion about battle distracting him makes sense, I had been wondering about that, too. During the wars of Beleriand, that must have happened a lot, after all.
Picnic sounds like a good idea, assumed there are no more incidents. They need all a break and to get away from everything.
Elves aren't any different from us Secondborn, weddings are the same hassle everywhere, it seems. Love that story about how Arafinwë and Eärwen did it!
Author's reply
It's not an easy Oath to live with, that's for sure, but that's just the way it is and Finrod has to live with it.
I'm sure Finrod was surprised to think his staid and proper parents ever did anything so not staid and proper. *grin* It's sometimes good to know your parents suffered through the same stuff you're going through. Helps to put things in perspective.

Oh yes, I can so see Glorfindel sneaking off with elflings to go swinging in a tree. He's not going to grow up any time soon, does he? I wouldn't be too surprised if he did it centuries later with elflings Elladan and Elrohir as well.
*sigh* While I understand that Glorfindel was annoyed with the two Reborn and didn't feel like keeping them occupied any longer, he still should have been a bit more responsible – particularly as he wants to be taken seriously. But I guess he could not have known they would end up in that much trouble, and from the looks of it he was quite hurt when they complained that he was no fun.
I can't help but feel sorry for Arafinwë for having to put up with all these Reborn. One really needs the patience of a saint for them ... though the King is doing good job on it.
Glorfindel's explanation about the delayed wedding brings so many lovely memories up about having tea with a balrog ... ;)
I can't say I blame Finrod for being close to just elope with Amarië and escape all these unpleasant incidents, even if it wouldn't help him in any way in the long run, on the contrary. It has to be quite frustrating for him.
What is the matter with Aldundil now?? You know, it's good that I am so far behind with reading and reviewing, that way you can't torture me with cliffhangers :P

Hi Kitty. Glorfindel is maturing but he's still got a way to go and so little things will still set him off, like the other Reborn saying he's no fun. What kid wants to hear that? *grin*
Anyway, Arafinwë seems to be holding his own for now.
And since you already know what has happened I can't say "wait until the next chapter" *LOL!*
Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

And what, one wonders, is Isidil up to? He can't make it TOO ugly, or his reputation will suffer (and he strikes me as the sort to haaaate that)... Can't wait to 'see' what the new & improved wedding outfits look like!

Hi Bookworm. Well, we'll all find out in a few more days.*grin* And you're not the only one who is looking forward to seeing what the new wedding garb looks like. Hopefully you won't be disappointed. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
