· Chapter 16: In Which Sador Arrives and a Dream is Revealed
Oh, this was a fun chapter! It had me laughing!
Ulmo seems to be having a fun time with this wedding, I wonder if any of the other Valar plan on popping in any time soon to join in on the fun.
I don't see why Earwen can't go hang in a tree along with the ellyn, though she would porbably have to stop off to put on some leggings, it would not do for the Queen of the Noldor be seen hanging from a tree branch with her skirts over her face!
Huggs,
Lynda

Ok once again the end of this chapter makes me so glad I do not share an office. I can now go off to my afternoon meeting with a huge smile on my face.
Sador hasn't changed much I see - and I love the story about his grandparents and great-grandfather painting the shed red. As to Lord Ulmo's intervention I wander what it pertains. Netilmírë 's reaction was great :)
I am going to be so glad to have this story to brighten up midweek in what promises to be a busy university term.
Author's reply
Hi Arwen. Well you're in luck for as it looks now this story won't be finished much before the end of the year so Wednesdays for the foreseeable future should be bright enough. *grin* Glad you like this chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I apprecicate it.

Okay, it's been a *really* long day for me, as I had an over to Sudbury and back for my Dental Checkup and Cleaning. I have to go back, but as I have two broken teeth, that wasn't a surprise. Oh the joys of being on Predisone long term to keep my Kidney Transplant happy. Anyway...I'm literally running on fumes here and will give a more indepth review either tomorrow or during the weekend.
LOVE this chapter. Especially Arafinwe and Earwen's disclosure of how their Wedding went. Yi yi yi...At least in the end they got the Wedding they wanted. Even though no one was the wiser on the day for the Wedding for everyone else that is. :oD
BTW...Thanks for giving me the needed kick in the rear to finally get my Rankin Family CD's loaded into my iTunes Library. Been meaning to do that for a year and a bit, but now that I need to refresh my memory on how Mist Covered Mountains sounds like, it might actually end up getting done this time. ;oD I was lucky enough to see them perform live in the Fall of 93 and it was one of the best Concerts I've ever been to.
Can't wait for next Wednesday and I will do a longer review at some point in the next couple of days. :o)

· Chapter 15: In Which They Go on a Picnic and Finrod Let’s His Hair Down
Great chapter, jajajaja, but poor Aldundil it must be the most embarrassing thing for an elf to stumble upon a tree ROOT!!!!!! Interesting story of Arafinwë and Eärwen wouldn't have thought they would have the guts to do that... poor Indis it must have been terrible to be constantly in the shadows of your husband's first wife, whom you are almost certain you will never compare in his heart... now I can almost understand her frustration with Fëanáro, because he made sure to not make things easy for her... but anyway I still sympathize with him, it must have equally horrible to know your mother doesn't care to return to you or your father and that his father can replace her so easily... though I don't think he really did and that's why Indis had it difficult in the beginning of her marriage and later on with the rivalry between Nolofinwë and Fëanáro... Anyway I have a question: what has happened to Nerdanel after Fëanáro left???? You never mention her... and she unlike her husband tried to get along with the family... was she exiled or is she a she-who-must-not-be-named???? Also I find it a little uncharitable of Arafinwë to not try to understand his nephews, I mean if Nolofinwë did and he SUFFERED the Helcraxe why shouldn't he??? They had lost everything following the oath their father made them take, also I think that by the time of the War of Wrath they were a little like madmen, holding on to the last thing that made "sense" to them for loosing and leaving everything they had behind in Aman.
Author's reply
Hi Monalex. According to Tolkien, Nerdanel returned to the home of her father, Martan. I think, like Indis, who, according to Tolkien, retired to Lórien, she wants nothing to do with her husband's family, and is merely waiting for the day when her children are reunited with her. Arafinwë, unlike Nolofinwë, did not have to deal with the expediency of living on Morgoth's doorstep and therefore needing to bring all the Noldor together for survival purposes, so he had no reason (or ability) to "kiss and make up" as it were. Also, remember, that at the end, he must have felt doubly betrayed by Maedhros and Maglor (the only Fëanoreans still living) when they attempted to steal the Silmarils after all the sacrifices made on the part of the Amanians in rescuing the Beleriandic Elves from annihilation. He's coming from a different place than someone like Finrod. Hope this makes sense.
I'm glad you liked the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Gorgeous song by the Rankin Family, and I am definitely not speaking to you. Do you know how impossible it is to track down the song or the album?!?
Quick question: were all of the 10 who went with Finrod bonded to him with the Life Oath? If yes, given the, uh, feedback, that'd be major ouch in the dungeon of Tol-in-Gaurhoth?
Laughed at Arafindel and Earwen secretly eloping. Go Mom and Dad!
Author's reply
Sorry about that, Tkid. I figured most people would just do a Search for "Rankin Family Mist Covered Mountain" when they got on Youtube and would find it easily enough. I certainly did.
As for your question, I have no idea about the others who went with Finrod and Beren on the Quest. Edrahil is the only one named in the sources so it was easy enough to bring him into the picture, but I do not think all of them had the Life Oath with Finrod, but some of them most likely did and it would have made Finrod's experience in the dungeon of Tol-in-Gaurhoth all that much worse indeed.
Anyway, I'm glad you found Arafinwë and Eärwen's elopement amusing. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Nice chapter. I was a little worried when I read the title, I just imagined Finrod as Rapunzel in a high tower...I tis great when parents surprise their kids.
You know, when first I read about ME (many, many years ago), one of the stories that impact me more was Findecáno's rescue of Maitimo. It was a stuff of legend. I really mourned FIndecano when he died. I'm glad that you wrote about it.

Well, how sneaky of Earwen and Arafinwe, not that I blame them, if they had to put up with the kind of nonsense Finrod and Amarie are being put through!
Oh dear, poor Adundil, well at least he should be rocovered enough to dance at Finrods wedding! I am sure that tree was very soory it did not move fast enough!
Intaion's injury must have brought back some very unpleasent memories for Ingalure, from the few hints you have given, it appears he was felled by a blow to the head, deliberately or by mistake only I.D.B. will tell. Perhaps the 'Ing' boys can join Arafinwe and company for a picnic another day.
I thought, maybe, Glorfi and Finrod were going swiming when they started undoing their braids or was it just an indication that they were really relaxing and literally latting their hair down? Tight hairstyles can give you a headache sometimes.
Waiting for Wednesday and Friday, both these tales seem to be coming to conclusions of some sort.
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. You're right about the unpleasant memories for Ingalaure and we will see just what happened to him eventualy in Darkness. Neither that story nor this one is coming to their conclusions yet. There is plenty more of the stories to tell, trust me. Glorfi and Finrod undoing their braids is just a sign of them really relaxing. I suspect that they wear the braids only in public and otherwise let their hair down in private. That they are doing so in a semi-public venue says a lot about them and their states of mind. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Heh. I _thought_ the Reborn were at the bottom of the situation that got Aldundil injured. And it was a bit funny seeing an elf saying he is getting "too old" for something.
When I saw the title of the song, I actually thought about the Dire Straits song - not too far-fetched, IMO, since you have featured rock music in your story _Maiar Games_. Besides, I really like the Dire Straits song.
I see that if Finrod and Amarië decide to elope after all, they will be in good company! ROFLMAO

Hi Sunny. While I know Dire Straits, I'm not familiar with their music or the particular song you have in mind. At any rate, I thought this song appropriate enough. Glorfindel might be technically right in this 'I never said I would be their minder' business, but if I'd have pulled that nonsense around my parents when I was young, my parents would not have been impressed. I don't imagine either Finrod or Ingwion will make the mistake of trusting the Balrog Slayer like they have.
It's a very nice touch making Glorfindel more mature when he's with more mature elves, and immature with the immature elves.
Finrod's going to have to lump having a big wedding isn't he? It's a shame most of the participants are bent on massaging their own egos rather than making the event a true celebration.
I feel sorriest for Ingalaure and Intarion; they have been rather abandoned the last few hours and paid the heaviest price for it.
Author's reply
Hi Tkid. I'm sure most of us, if we'd pulled that particular nonsense around our parents, would have been given the facts of life on a silver platter with no doubt as to the outcome. Glorfindel, of course, is in a slightly different situation and both Finrod (who is a Reborn and should know better how Reborn think) and Ingwion will have to be very careful about such assumptions as they made here in the future.
Glorfindel is very good in taking on the characteristics of those around him, allowing him to blend in more. It's probably a survival instinct for him. LOL!
Ingalaure and Intarion are still quite 'young', even more so than Glorfindel, and they tend to be impulsive, as most younglings are, but they'll learn discretion eventually as they continue to mature and reclaim the memories of their former lives.
Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Poor Glorfy *snicker* having to sneak away from Aewellondë toget a good swining session in a tree. But it wouldn't surprise me if Eärendil knows more about what Glorfindel is doing when he sneaks away than he lets on.
So the rumor-spreaders are sent to one room to cool their heels (and presumably sweat a bit), and the witnesses are sent to another room while the King deals with the Reborn.
Hmm. "One upset Reborn is enough to deal with." And right now there are four of them right in the palace. Even if Finrod is bored, I am certain nobody else is! Bored Reborn are a threat to anyone's sanity! And health ... I really wonder what trouble the Vorondils have gotten into that Aldundil is trying to get them out of and getting injured in the process? Hopefully he won't be too badly hurt!

Now what? I'm so confuse. Why did he faint? Have I missed something? What is the meaning of Aldundil?
Just for the fun of gossip, it is so good that Finrod is a male, because if "he" were a "she" after that faint, people will be saying that they definitely anticipated their vows.
I didn't like Amarie's mother too much, but after her support to Ingalaurë in the Council, I like her better, and honestly, if I were her, I could still be very mad with Finrod.
For a moment, I thought that you will give us a spoiler for IDB, show us Ingalaurë’s death, but I guess that we have to wait….

Hi Fantasia. No you didn't miss anything. We'll find out why Finrod fainted in the next chapter.
Almariel, like anyone, has her good points and bad. Here we're seeing her at her worse, but I think things like weddings (and funeral) tend to bring out the worst of people in such stressful situations. And you are corret that she still holds some resentment against Finrod for deserting her daughter.\

This chapter was so great, just seeing the title did it for me!!!! I loved it, hahahaha, but poor Intarion and Ingalaure, being beat up for standing up for their cousin. Now I am just waiting to see how Findarato and Ingwion take the beating of their cousins and brother, and about the rumor initiated by that horrible elleth. Oh I think I will absolutely love how Ingwion and Findarato confront this... of all the elves to anger with horrible rumors and beating of relatives those two would be my last choice, and that is without counting how the Kings of the Noldor and Vanyar react... good to have some Maiar around to solve the problems that the reborn invariably experience. I just hope Glorfindel doesn't get into to much trouble for leaving them alone, after all they were pretty rude to him... also I hope he does not feel responsible for the incident...
But I do have some questions, why does Intarion mentions that he has no naneth???? Because he has, she is only in exile... also this question just came to me from the comment you made of Glorfindel having matured (but not fully yet), if Sador is the same age of Glorfindel SINCE being REBORN and therefore has not fully matured, how is it that he can lead the people of Tol Eresa???? It would be like giving Glorfindel the task to watch over a whole army, it just is not done, at least not yet.
Author's reply
HiMonalex. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I'm sure the title alone was enough to set lots of people laughing. We'll see in the next chapter how everyone fares.
As to your questions: of course Intarion has an ammë and an atto, but he knows they are in exile and why, and it is unlikely that his parents are even aware of his having been Reborn. And, given that Ingoldo and Tinwestariel have been permanently banished, it is unlikely that he will ever see them. So, for him, he has no ammë or atto and being a 'young' as he is emotionally, that has to hurt on some level when he sees everyone else with an ammë and atto (if that makes sense) so when the ellon mentioned his ammë, all that hurt he must feel but keeps hidden came out.
As for Sador... he died quite young, when he was only 68 years old, and the Reborn take some time to regain the level of maturity they had enjoyed at the time of their deaths. Tolkien states that even after reaching their majority, Elves take at least another 50 years to reach emotional maturity, and I've taken that as my standard, but because they are Reborn, I've expanded it to 100 years. But that's on theaverage and applies to those who were much older than Sador when they died. The older they were, the longer it would take. But circumstances play a role and some may mature at a faster rate (Glorfindel or Finrod, for instance) than others. Sador has not taken as much time to reach his emotional maturity as the others and will continue to mature, but he is more mature than most for his age and that is why he is Cáno.
Anyway, I hope that clears things up a bit. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

So much for boring!!
I hope Glorfy isn't in too much trouble for leaving the two to their own devices, but, they were pretty rude to our favourite Balrog Slayer. OTOH, he also didn't show that much good judgement by not going back to check on them.
If that hadn't happened though, then the Vanyar Princes would not have heard that piece of work's venom filled words. There's gossip and then there's saying things in order to take revenge for some percived slight. Of course, those people are far more dangerous than some old biddy or young biddy gossiping.
I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of that particular elleth when *both* of Their Majesties *and* Finrod *AND* the others hear what she was saying in that tavern. Someone more than likely thinks she's in trouble, but has *no idea* just how big of trouble she's in.
Then again, for saying such horrible and spiteful things, she deserves what's coming her way.
Can't wait for next Wednesday to find out how it all shakes down. :oD

Just the chapter title is enough to make me wince. What did they *now*?
Of course Glorfindel was the one to find the loophole in Ingwë's orders straight away! Though from the sound of it, I suspect it's really better not to let these two anywhere near swords yet. So I was glad that Glorfindel stayed firm and didn't allow them to play with them.
I'm beginning to really like Ingalaurë and Intarion. They fit right in with the other troublemakers. And of course they had to react to what they heard ... again, they shouldn't have, but it was still nice that they tried to defend Finrod. I have to admit, I was smirking when the Maiar had these rumourmongers taken to the palace and refused to heal Intarion for the sake of evidence. Yeah, nip that in the bud before it gets out of hand!

Why do I get the increasing feeling that things are going to get even more interesting now? These rumours were quite funny. Now you have me wondering what rumours might be going on in Tirion itself.
In any case, it worked quite well to bring that up. It seems Eärwen now sees why it would be better to include the ellyn in the planning a bit more.
Now I am wondering if Isildil would have still served Partridge, even after it being on the 'not to make' list? That one is so stubborn I'd not be surprised. I'm actually glad he's out of the picture for the time being. Marilla is doing a much better job, after all.
Well, Lindessë wasn't very accommodating, either, was she? While I am certainly not a musician, I think a professional really doesn't need a month to learn a new piece. Somehow I get the feeling half the people involved just do what they always do and don't bother to consider what is appropriate. As if it were some common wedding ... Anyway, Ingwion very obviously proved her wrong, and in a way I thoroughly enjoyed.

Hi Kitty. Lindessë is another who has so much power and means to use it whenever she can and you're right that some people get by by just doing what they always do and not consider what is appropriate for the occasion. Is it only me, or is that bit with the dinner all of a sudden a bit suspicious? Or am I only always expecting something to happen, even if there's no real reason to be suspicious? On the other hand, it's your fic ...
What I like about Marilla is that she is always explaining things. No doubt Isildil would only get nasty if someone asks about the why or how.
Really, Glorfindel can't even go shopping without something happening! But all in all, it wasn't such a bad idea. The Valar love him, after all, and they were the only ones who could truly help, or Ulmo in this case. And even the others get enough of that fish. Maybe it was a reward for giving that elleth some of his precious fish.

Hi Kitty. I think Arafinwe merely wished to have Finrod and Glorfindel do something constructive and perhaps more fun by coming up with a menu and when we learn who is coming from Vanyamar, it will make more sense.
