I love the last two chapters. There being good dragons is a delightful thought.
Way to go Yew! Now I will read "Count The Stars."
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Tari, for reading Yew. :-)
It's been awhile since I've been here and it took some time to remember how to get to where I could respond to your comments.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Yew and hope you will like Count The Stars as well.
Thank you again! :-)
Hugs,
Pearl

I'm so glad that Radagast is able to continue to visit the people among whom Yew dwelt. And Yew was so fortunate to come to them and to do as he did. I'm so glad he learned compassion from a small Took who went on in his own turn to be the greatest Thain known in the Shire.
Author's reply
Yes, it is a wonderful thing that dragon and hobbit both turned out so well.
Thank you so very much, Larner, for sticking with this to the end. :-)

Ah, I DO love Yew! How wonderful as he becomes the proper dragon of the East, seen as propitious rather than destructive, as caring rather than devouring! And he will earn that hoard he covets!
Author's reply
I was glad to have a place to send him where his lot in life can be so different. I have actually wondered for many years why the west has fearsome dragons and the east has helpful ones that bring good luck, so it's been fun to write about it.
Thank you for reading and commenting, Larner. :-)

Uh oh.
Yew sounds smarter that Pippin, at this point. On the other hand, just how smart is he, to be caught in Vinca's room?
(The idea of the girl playing dress-up with a young dragon... *snork)
Author's reply
Yew is smarter than the average dragon. Hmm . . . that phrase sounds familiar.;-)
Yes, Vinca is that sort of girl. LOL

Great ending!
I liked it how Yew the small dragon became Yinglong, the father of all Chinese dragons.
Soon Yinglong had the greatest hoard of any dragon in any realm of the world.
That's even more than he had expected :-)
It was really a funny coincidence that the first man Yew the Dragon met was named "Yu"!
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Andrea :-)
Yes, Pippin's pet became very important, and I think he deserved such a huge hoard. ;-)
I didn't start the Chinese research until after I was into the story by several chapters and could hardly believe that the person Yinglong first helped was named Yu. That was just too cool of a coincidence. :-)

i have adored yew since he first appeared in a challenge story, and i found those last two chapters leaving me wishing once again that some authors had all the time in the world to devote to my entertainment because i would love to read the tales those two could relate. thank you for making the time to tell us of yew.
Author's reply
aw, (((nancylea)))
I wish I had all the time as well. I'm also embarking on a career writing original stories that can be published and so have to balance how much time I have for my fanfiction. At this point, I have NO intention of quitting my fanfiction. I enjoy it and it's a nice break from my other stuff.
I"m so very glad you've enjoyed Yew and his adventures growing up.

“Yew of the Dragons at yours,” replied the dragon as Gandalf had instructed him just that morning. There was no need to add ‘and your family’s’ as wizards had no families.
*Grins* I like that! Apparently, Pippin taught Yew many hobbit customs.
Radagast was wonderful in this chapter, a wizard like Gandalf, but with an expert knowledge of (and love for) all kinds of animals, even the dragons and the correct pronunciation of their mysterious names!
Happy birthday to you :-)
Author's reply
Yes, I think Pip did, plus even bad dragons seem to have excellent manners. LOL
I'm glad you enjoyed Radagast. He's doing well with knowing how to pronounce Dragonish. :-)

Every boy needs a pesky sister, and Vinca certainly fits the bill.
Yew continues to act like an unusually intelligent and perceptive reptile. (Well, intelligent, except perhaps for trying to eat a yew leaf.)
A most happy birthday to you, my friend, and many happy returns!

So glad you updated this on a day I had a few moments to read. Now I'm reminded of the story, that's been on my want-to-read list for ages, by seeing it at the top of the SoA list, and so I clicked on the first chapter and indulged myself.
Your Pip is so natural, so real and believable a small boy, and his mum is wonderfully quick on the uptake as well as kind and understanding.
Yew sounds like quite an intelligent lizard. Looking forward to reading more. Hope I get the chance soon.

Wonderful chapter!
Radagast is the best person Gandalf could have chosen to bring Yew safely to his new home.
I loved the farewell scene behind the stables and the wishes Pippin and Yew had for each other.
I think Paladin is as sad about parting with Yew as his little lad is, although as a reasonable adult he knows that they can't keep the dragon. Still, he's young enough to be impressed by Pippin's "statue trick" ;-)
Author's reply
LOL Yes, Paladin is still young at heart.
Radagast will do a fine job, I'm sure.

Ahh...*sniff*
Lovely chapter. Yes, Radagast will be a great person to settle Yew.
Hope you don't mind me mentioning it. One slight jarring note but maybe only to me. (Merry volunteered to help his cousin police the various relatives and acquaintances ) police is a very modern word for middle earth. You could substitute 'sheriff'.
Author's reply
Sorry about that, harrowcat. That's what I get for not having all my chapters vetted by Dreamflower. I don't know if 'sheriff' can be a verb like 'police' can. I'll see what else I can come up with.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter otherwise. :-)

Somehow missed the Chapter 12 posting and just now read it. Truthfully, I have been concerned over Yew's situation, as dragons are not seen favorably in most of Middle Earth - but leave it to Gandalf to come up with a perfect solution.
I am now envisioning Yew as the sire of the many wonderful, helpful dragons of the cultures of our Far East!
Author's reply
That is the plan. :-)

Something dark was coming. A quick vision of a mighty dragon tortured and in chains flitted through his mind as the gate opened and closed.
I really wonder what Yew is up to! He's a dragon. And dragons love gold rings!
However, the vision he had should make him suspicious. AND there is the deal with Gandalf...
Author's reply
The gold did catch his attention, but he is also very sensitive to the presence of the evil that created his kind, and after all, Sauron is merely a slave of Morgoth who created the dragons. So I don't think this golden ring will tempt him.
Basically, I think Yew is looking out for himself.
Thank you so much, Andrea, for keeping up with this story and for commenting! :-)

“Humph! Because I am young? Because I am small? I am most knowledgeable.” Yew puffed up, looking ready to blast the wizard at any moment.
LOL! Absolutely like Pippin!
So, Gandalf and Yew have a contract now. That sounds promising.
But I still wonder about the "offspring" part. Arrangements? I'm curious to find out what exactly Gandalf means by that.
Author's reply
Glad you like the similarities between young Hobbit and young Dragon. :-)
I'm not sure I'll end up going into those arrangements, or if I do it will be very minimal. For several reasons I'm trying my best to get this story finished and don't really wish to add things too it that weren't in my original plans - and this wasn't. One of those things that popped up while writing that now I wish hadn't.
We'll see how things go.
Thank you so much, Andrea for hanging in there with this story. :-)
