Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 32: Over Hill, Over Dale

Ah, so Mirime enjoys apples! I wonder who it was that thought of apple pies...cooling on the sill? *grins at Dreamflower* Maybe Adamanta made the first one? Kaylee

Author's reply

Or perhaps Tuk did. He was the one who taught her to cook, after all! *grin*

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 31: An Invitation

Aha, a luncheon invitation from Elrond! That's always welcome...I'd love it if Elrond could invite ME to luncheon! But what would I wear? LOL! Kaylee

Author's reply

For hobbits a luncheon invitation is definitely always welcome! I'm sure he wouldn't be picky about your dress-- he's accustomed to people of all Races and lands, isn't he?

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 30: Mark’d I Where the Bolt of Cupid Fell

What an appropriate title for 'love at first sight'! And was that a proposal, lol? Well, I wonder what Briar Rose had to say about that... Kaylee

Author's reply

Definitely "love at first sight", as much as it was for Melian and Thingol, Beren and Luthien or Aragorn and Arwen. Only being a hobbit, Tuk was practical enough not to stand around staring at his love-- he acted on it quite as impulsively as a Took would be!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 29: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

Ah, so Tuk has sisters, does he? (I've added two on the tree, both positioned after him, though I can change it if they're older, and if there should be more.) Does Tuk have brothers, too, I wonder? I'm all obsessed with this...and would you believe... it's hereditary? No, really. *grin* Anyway, I'm enjoying this very much! And isn't Mirime surprised...

Author's reply

If Tuk had brothers Adamanta has yet to tell me anything about them. I'm inclined to believe not, as I think if he had they would have been hunting with him and his cousins.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 28: In the Beginning

I wonder if Durdir is on Tol Eressea now? Perhaps he'd remember about Tuk? I'd quite like to see what he'd have to say to these descendants of the adventurous Tuk! Kaylee

Author's reply

I've no idea. Perhaps you could check with Legolas and see if he knows Durdir? *grin*

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 27: An Eye-opener and No Mistake

Heh! That makes Elrond and the hobbits cousins, in a rather roundabout way, doesn't it! *grins* I wonder when that will come up? Kaylee

Author's reply

Well, you might say that, LOL!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 26: On the Sea-strand (part two)

He was reminded vividly of a day long past, when he had let out all of his anger and frustration at his Uncle Saradoc and Aunt Esmeralda, only to feel foolish afterwards when he discovered that what had triggered his fury was all a misunderstanding on his part. And I need to read (or re-read) this one, too, LOL! Aww, Frodo. *hugs him* Kaylee

Author's reply

That one is one of my "Dreamflower's Mathoms I", "Buckland Spring".

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 25: On the Sea-strand, (part one)

As if her very thoughts of him had brought him (and she was not foolish enough to believe that, charming as the notion was) she sensed his approach. A very charming notion! And why not? Or perhaps Eru decided to inspire Frodo to walk there, since Mirime was thinking of him! Kaylee

Author's reply

I think because Mirime is not vain enough to think that her own wishes are that important-- but I have a feeling that you are quite probably right.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 24: The Truth Shall Set You Free

And that raises as many questions as it answers!!! Hehe!!! *is pondering some of them*

Author's reply

It does, doesn't it?

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 23: Origin of the Species

Hurrah for Gandalf! I knew he'd make things right, Dreamflower =) Hehe, descended from rabbits indeed...silly Bilbo! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes, I allude to the event in one of my stories, though I've never written the whole tale out: a visiting Dwarf named Nuri pestered Bilbo and some other hobbits day and night with questions, as he was very curious about hobbits. So Bilbo had his little joke.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 22: A Logical Conclusion

My heart breaks for Frodo here. Luckily, I know he will feel better soon! Kaylee

Author's reply

Again, as I said, he didn't have quite enough evidence to understand. But he will.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 21: Frodo Takes a Walk

Of course they were included! =) Good for Gandalf; I love his answer! Kaylee

Author's reply

Well, yes, of course they would be. But Frodo has been trying to be logical with insufficient information-- naturally he got hold of the wrong end of the stick. Gandalf would quickly set him straight.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 20: Gandalf Considers

"Gandalf chuckled to remember Merry’s long watch over his older cousin—all to insure that in the event Frodo ever left the Shire, he could not give Merry the slip." I remember this too, though the name of the story escapes me... I love Gandalf's thought processes, as always! You write him very well indeed - always a plus when one is dealing with hobbits! Kaylee

Author's reply

Actually it's canon. In "A Conspiracy Unmasked" Merry says "I knew Bilbo, too. To tell you the truth, I had been watching you rather closely ever since he left. I thought you would go after him sooner or later; indeed I expected you to go sooner, and lately we have been very anxious." I expanded on this in my third multi-chapter story, "A Conspiracy of Hobbits", but several other good writers have also expanded on it as well. And thank you for your compliments on my Gandalf, as he's my favorite non-hobbit character!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 19: Time Out

Ah yes, Bilbo, a jewel among hobbits! Yes, indeed! =) Although still, poor Frodo! Gandalf to the rescue, though! Kaylee

Author's reply

Gandalf will always come to the rescue of his favorite hobbits!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 18: Memory

poor Frodo! But it's entirely reasonable he might think so!! Kaylee

Author's reply

It truly does seem like the logical conclusion to come to when faced with the history of the Third Age; Frodo can't quite understand that time and causality has little meaning to Eru.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 17: Troubling Questions

oh dear, poor Frodo! I know where this is going of course, since I've already read this (and was just bad at reviewing) but poor Frodo, and Bilbo, and Mirime, too!

Author's reply

Indeed. Frodo did have rather a strong reaction, didn't he?

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 16: Secrecy

Good for Mirime, Dreamflower! I'm glad she saw to it that the Elves would protect the hobbits and not endanger their privacy. =) Kaylee

Author's reply

Well, that *was* her job as given to her by Yavanna. She remembered in time to say something to the Elves.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 15: Encounter Among the Trees (part 2)

Gamba, hmm? Is he a first or second cousin, on their fathers' or mothers' sides? LOL! *is very intrigued by such things* I presume he's a relation of the Oldbucks/Brandybucks? Kaylee

Author's reply

I'll have to think about that. I don't believe Adamanta's seen fit to tell me yet. But yes, he would have been one of Merry's ancestors.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

Well, Mirime's smitten, now! And oh boy...looks like Tuk and his friends are in for an Elven confrontation! Heh, I'd forgotten they came from the Anduin originally! Kaylee

Author's reply

Indeed, it seems from what I can gather, from the upper Anduin valley.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

Ah, the bravest and boldest of them all! Sounds like a perfect description of our own intrepid hobbits, so I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, even however many generations later!! I can see why Mirime would be attracted to Tuk! Kaylee

Author's reply

No it doesn't fall far at all from the tree-- ESPECIALLY in Middle-earth, where it seems heredity is remarkably consistent over the generations!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

It's always nice to have someone cook for you! Or to cook with someone, for that matter. =) My own grandmother was one of the best cooks I ever knew - I miss her. I think she'd approve of Adamanta! Kaylee

Author's reply

It is indeed! I love to cook myself, and I enjoy cooking for and with others. So it's not surprising Adamanta shares that trait.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 11: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Guess who's coming to dinner, indeed! LOL! I know Frodo and Bilbo are up to doing their part, though, and I'm glad Frodo got his chance to look back on the Shire! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes, it will be a nice dinner! The story of Frodo's glimpse of the Shire is found in my "Shire Yule" stories-- it's "Comfort and Joy". It doesn't mention Adamanta, as I had not posted this chapter yet and didn't want to make spoilers for it, but I wrote it at about the same time.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 10: A Walk in the Garden

Oh, poor Frodo! Yes, I think Adamanta is just the Hobbitess to help! I love how this story is coming along! Kaylee

Author's reply

She will definitely be able to help, if you consider how long Frodo has missed a mother's touch.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 9: Adamanta Calls Again

At least it wasn't the S-B's! I have a feeling if THEY made it to the West, they'd end up alongside Ar-Pharazon! Now to see what Adamanta's up to... Kaylee

Author's reply

Nope, not the S-B's, LOL! And I don't think either of them would have been welcome in the West, as unlike the Timeless Halls where one may enter by Mercy, to be a mortal invited to the West one has to have earned the privilege.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 25 October 2011 · Chapter 8: Where Mercy, Love and Pity Dwell

"And then he had found them, three of them, half-starved, perishing with cold, yet they offered to share what meagre rations they had with him. His own heart had been lost then and there." Oh? Do tell! Or have you and I missed it? I love Gandalf's thoughts here! Kaylee

Author's reply

Well, I have now, though not at the time I wrote this chapter. But a while later I wrote of it in my B2MEM 2011 stories. In "If It's Tuesday It Must Be Buckland" it is the story called "Pity".
