Oh, are we ever going to see some of that poetry? That would be neat! I'm glad he's finding peace. :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

One of them was posted long, long ago, in my "Alphabet for Middle-earth" anthology here on SoA: "I Like an Inspiring Iluvatar" (the title was the challenge prompt).

· Chapter 47: Understanding
It is a bittersweet happiness, for of course Bilbo and Frodo won't be there for long. Still she can be at ease knowing her and Tuk's legacy continues.
Author's reply
Indeed! Their line has succeeded beyond all expectations!
That must certainly have been a scary time for them all. Thankfully Adamanta remembered who she was.
Author's reply
Yes, thank goodness! Or who knows what would have happened!

· Chapter 46: Adamanta's Children: Maura
All of her children have fascinating personalities, but this one is *definitely* Frodo's ancestor.
I'm looking forward to reading more!
Author's reply
Yes. You are absolutely right.
Actually, several are his ancestor in one way or another, but Maura is his direct ancestor all the way back to Adamanta and Tuk.
And Raz is Pippin's and Kali is Merry's, Ban is Sam's and Bildad is Bilbo's.
They have the other siblings intertwined in their family trees at various points-- Buk, for example is also an ancestor for Merry. And Briar Rose is also definitely another of Frodo's ancestors, as Addie is of Pippin's. But of course, there were many generations in between.
The exception is Sam. At some point, Ban's descendants moved away from the main family, and there was no more intermarriage into the line of Adamanta/Tuk.
Ah--definitely Frodo's ancestor here! Yes, wise he would be, and not ambitious to follow his father, but instead to counsel both father and brothers.
Author's reply
Absolutely Frodo's ancestors. I think now the tales of the children are complete, you can see: Raz was the founder of the Took line, Kali of the Brandybucks, and Ban of Sam's line, Bildad of Bilbo and Maura of Frodo's line. Yet descendants of the other sibs would eventually lend their traits and genes down the generations to other hobbit families that would eventually re-marry many decades and even centuries later to lend their talents to the various Fallohide families. Buk, of course was an ancestor of the Oldbucks and then the Brandybucks, and there was much intermarriage between his line and Kali's, as there also was between Bildad's and Maura's. At some point, though, Ban's descendants moved away from the other Fallohides to dwell among the Harfoots, and so there was no longer any fresh infusion of Fallohide blood for the eventual Gamgees.
If you look carefully, you can see many of the fanon characteristics I've given various hobbits, not just the Tooks-Brandybucks-Bagginses-Gamgees, but also Bolgers, Boffins, Proudfoots and so forth.
This reminds me of when my nephew was smaller and they were all worried because he wasn't talking. They were trying to say he was autistic because he also likes to put things in organizes lines. I can't stand the fact that if a child is "behind" in his development, they try to label it as a mental problem. He's almost six now and you can't get that kid to shut up. All these kids being diagnosed as autistic or ADD or what have you, you really have to wonder how much of it is actually true and how much is just the parents and teachers not wanting to deal with the kid anymore.
The goodness Buk was raised by sensible parents.
Author's reply
Old-fashioned parents were usually willing to wait for their kids to do things in their own time.
Buttercup sounds like a true darling, even managing to melt the heart of an old shrew. No doubt she brought delight to everyone she touched.
Author's reply
Indeed she did! I shamelessly admit to modelling her character on Phronsie Pepper from Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, who was probably the fluffiest child in the history of literature. But I loved her like everyone else did, anyhow! LOL!
Maura is an interesting lad! So this one is where Frodo gets his name, hmm?
Timeline, during the early years of the Third Age:
-3 - Tûk and Adamanta are married. (Bûk and Briar Rose are the names of Tûk's parents, Adamanta of course only has Eru (and one could argue for Yavanna), but I expect it would be odd to think they showed up in person. Lol!)
0 - Briar Rose's birth. She has blue eyes (like movie!Frodo, heh :) ) and dark hair.
3 - Briar Rose becomes a faunt. Raz is born. This is probably around the time Briar Rose follows Tûk about, receiving trinkets from him to keep.
5 - Adamanta "Addie" is born.
6/7 - Around this time, Kali and Ban are born.
7 - Raz burns his fingers, wheedling biscuits from his gammer and ending up with an upset stomach.
8 - Addie is learning to talk and sing.
10/11 - Buttercup is born.
13/14 - Buttercup becomes a faunt. Adamanta realizes she is with child.
14/15 (or very late in 13) Bûk, named for his grandfather, is born.
15 - The Wood-elf Galasgil comes to the village and makes a set of shepherd's pipes for Addie. He teaches her, as well as her brothers and sisters to read and write.
15/16 - Aster and Rowan are born.
16/17 - Around now, Galasgil departs, much to everyone's (but especially Addie's) dismay.
(16?) 17/18 - Bûk finally learns to speak, though he speaks well from the beginning.
17/18 - Bildad is born, almost two years to the day after Aster and Rowan's birthday. Because he is born early, and both he and Adamanta are ill, he becomes the pet of the family.
20/21 - Bildad becomes a faunt. Adamanta quickens with child in the spring.
21/22 - Beryl is born in the turning of the year, the dead of winter. She barely crawls, instead quickly learning to run, skip and dance.
(25?) 26/27 - Bûk learns to fish, and becomes an excellent angler. He also makes friends with a Stoor, and learns to swim.
32 - Briar Rose gets married. (Although that can't be right, since Bûk helped Uncle Gamba build her smial, and he didn't start his apprenticeship until later...unless my dates are off on that?) Maura is born in the autumn.
(33?) 34/35 - Bûk apprentices to his "Uncle" Gamba, Tûk's first cousin on his mother's side. He becomes an excellent hole-builder.
35/36 - Aster and Rowan reach tweenhood. Sometime during their tweens, both discover lads, though Rowan is first to do so. Aster, however, is first to attract a lad, Herugar, from a Harfoot village
after 48/49 or so, Aster gets married to Herugar of the Harfoots
51/52 - Beryl, an excellent dancer, becomes betrothed to the second finest dancer in the village.

But I don't know how that would work!) :) Also, I'm a bit confused on the dates corresponding to Buk's apprenticeship and Briar Rose's marriage...please clarify? :) Hugs!

Author's reply
First: Yes, well, you can assume that Frodo is a direct descendant of Maura (as Pippin is of Raz, Merry is of Kali, and Sam is of Ban, and Bilbo is of Bildad).
As to Buk, take it that his apprenticeship had just begun. At about 18, he'd have been as mature as a human 9 or 10 year old. Not too young for an apprenticeship to a blood-relative. Historically, some children began apprenticeships as young as 7. (To be honest, I'd forgotten how young he'd be-- but still I like the idea of his having a hand in building his sister's smial.)
As to the pattern, it was meant to echo Sam's children up to a point, but also it was meant to echo the Third Age Adamanta (and Gerontius) who had twelve. So I used the "Sam" element to determine the gender and birth-order; but I used the number twelve to pay tribute to the Old Took and his wife. Also, no one gets to equal Sam! LOL!
Author Reply: OK, what I get from replying too early in the morning and not looking things up: Buk would have been closer to the equivalent of a 12 year old at eighteen-- definitely old enough to have begun his apprenticeship! *whew!*wipes brow*
Sorry about the duplicate review last time, Dreamflower! Or duplicate timeline, really - I love Bildad's name, it's so interesting, Biblical almost. And Beryl...that's sweet :) Since Beryl is Emerald, that's like Esmeralda, almost...hmm...^_^ I think Beryl is the ancestor of perhaps Merry and Frodo both...

Yes, Beryl and related names (like Esmeralda) seem to fit in the family line much like Adamanta and the variations on Diamond do. And of course, it's important to have a green stone, as the Dunadan once told Bilbo...

Too long in one shape, and she came so close to losing her hold on her true nature! This one appears to be in many ways the one most like Frodo, it would seem.
Author's reply
Yes; JRRT indicates that could be possible, and that bearing children would exacerbate that tendency! But Adamanta's work is far from done-- so she recalled herself in time.
Remember that down the line the blood of many of these children will once again be mingled...

No, there was no putting the dessert before the main course! So I'd say your timeline is fairly accurate. There will be some information in the account of the last child (coming soon) which should allow you to tighten the timeline up a little more.

Very good!
Kalimac and Banazir, Merry and Sam! And perfectly described.
If Merry and Sam had been twin brothers, Merry would have been saved from a lot of trouble. This is also true for Frodo and Sam. But definitely NOT for Merry and Pippin ;-)
Author's reply
I've always thought that Merry and Sam were very much alike in a lot of ways, though Merry was a little more volatile. So it was fun to play with the idea of how it might have gone if they were twin brothers!

I daresay you are right...although Pippin might have been in less trouble if he'd had Sam as well as Merry watching out for him.

** This reminds me of an old joke, from a joke book nearly as old as me:
A boy lived alone with his parents. He was extremely well-behaved, but never spoke a word, until he was eight years old when he startled his mother and father at dinner by saying,
"Pass the salt."
After a few moments of silence, his father demanded,
"How come you never spoke before?"
"Well," his son replied with a shrug, "until now everything was all right."
