I love the Hobbity tent! So sweet of Gimli to build all those hobbity things! I often wondered if Aragorn needed more healing rest than he got during the days he strove to heal so many inside the city and in Ithilian. I can hardly wait for the next chapter to see how things turn out. Poor Frodo's sore bottom! :) Hugs, Neilia
Author's reply
I think Gimli is a big old softie when it comes to 'his hobbits'.
Yes, poor Frodo! But there's no place better to recover from anything than in a happy hobbity tent. :)

Ah, all is well in hand. And maybe Gimli will make Gandalf a new hat? HEHEHEHEHE! That is delightful!
Author's reply
The hobbits' way of 'speaking lightly' in stressed situations never fails to delight me. :)

Ah - so the King of Gondor will find himself in a cozy hobbit hole tent when he wakes up? I guess that special kind of care and atmosphere and lots of tasty food will do much to help him recover. *smiles*

Tide has turned indeed - now Frodo will be aiding Aragorn. Nothing like four hobbits to take care of you right.

The hobbits have come into their own, and I love it when other characters realize it. :)

I really loved your description of a hobbit hole, err...tent! as provided by Gimli! How does he know? Did he get a sneaky glimpse inside Bag End sometime in the past or is it just the descriptions of the hobbits on the trek and from his dad?
The last paragraph really brought a lump to the throat!
Author's reply
That was a looong trek south; I think the hobbits would have told him all about the Shire... and you're right, he would have heard years of stories from his dad and cousins!
Awww, thank you. Pippin is quite an amazing young hobbit.

*grin* I love your description of the hobbits' "sanctuary". It's going to be perfect for keeping their Strider captive snug and cozy while they cover him with blankets, ply him with tea, tell him stories and cosset him to within an inch of his life.
And I think you are quite right: I am sure Gimli kept himself very busy during those couple of weeks making things or repairing things or making himself otherwise useful. I can't imagine him just sitting around meditating!
I love the way each of the hobbits reacts to Frodo's news according to his personality: Sam starts fussing, Merry gets stern, and Pippin asks questions! LOL!
And I just adore Pippin getting ready to stand guard at the end...
Author's reply
Thank you! What fun. If I can't get Aragorn back into a 'real' hobbit hole to be taken care of, this is the next best thing. :)
I imagine Dwarves as untiring, creative, and single minded, especially when it comes to aiding those few friends they allow into their hearts.

Hmmm... It makes sense that even Aragorn might find waging physical wars *and* battles in healing and in the mind would wear him out. I like Gimli as a dwarvish cross between a mother hen and a hobbit-protector! Also, I love the teasing interaction between Merry and Pippin, and Gandalf. You do that so well.
Author's reply
Aragorn has been through a lot, which will be detailed more in the next chapter, I think.
Hobbity teasing! I'm just insatiable. :)

I got the treat of reading 2 chapters at once, and I still don't know what ailment befell Aragorn. At least he got help. Smart idea to take him into the hobbits tent. But won't people come by to talk to the king, once it is knows that he is with the hobbits? Staying w/Frodo shouldn't hinder him of doing some business. How do they restrain his Rangers or Imrahil from coming by? But at least Gandalf will be told.
I love this story idea and all my favorite characters are there.
Author's reply
Glad you're enjoying the story! I'm still working out a lot of the details myself, so I don't have a lot of answers yet. But I think it will be fun having Aragorn and the hobbits in one place together. :)

Terrific intro to the story, shirebound! I particularly like this line:
Aragorn seemed to understand that hobbits oftentimes spoke lightly when their hearts were full.
Perfect understanding of hobbits. But I really hope Frodo hurries, for Aragorn's sake (and so his ride is short!).
Author's reply
Thank you! I think that over their long journey together, Aragorn would have grown to understand hobbits very well indeed.

Well what is wrong with Aragorn. You know he did get awfully close to that troll in the last battle, maybe he has caught some kind of troll sickness, I mean that foot did not look like it had been washed in ages.

Troll sickness! Now that's a creative idea. :)

I'm so curious now to discover what is wrong with Aragorn! Poor man, but Frodo was very brave to ride for help on Roheryn. I'm used now to Frodo knowing Elladan and Elrohir from the Quarantined universe that it took me a moment to figure out why he didn't know them here. LOL! You've really built the suspense wonderfully, and I hope there will be a new chapter very soon. :)
Author's reply
I believe Frodo would have known the twins, if even from just a few days when they returned to Rivendell with news of the wraiths -- but I doubt he'd know much about them, such as the fact that they were skilled in healing.
Frodo has proved himself to be quite remarkable, in every situation, so he wouldn't hesitate to do whatever was necessary here to get help for his good friend. Thank you for coming on this new adventure!

Another exciting chapter. I like how you've drawn Eomer... he comes across very believable in his worries about the men losing confidence if Aragorn showed weakness. Men's confidence in their leaders often hangs by a thread even with established leaders. And I love the imagery of Aragorn hanging onto the very grass. I've had bouts of vertigo and that's exactly what you end up doing--grabbing what you can and holding on for dear life! I'm looking forward to Chapter 3!
Author's reply

A nice bit of TLC for the soon-to-be king. Eomer is nicely handled; I can see his reservation at letting the men see Aragorn infirm. Although, it's a good thing neither Frodo nor Aragorn thought to send Roheryn back without a rider. That would have caused an uproar for sure. Looking forward to Gandalf's appearance.
Author's reply
Thank you, Meckinock. Yes, the new king's riderless horse galloping back into camp would have definitely caused a great deal of fright and speculation.

I'm absolutely dying here . . . oh my goodness can it be any BETTER, to have Aragorn sequestered away with the hobbits while the twins look after him? I am in heaven!!! Comfy Aragorn h/c and hobbit and blankets heaven, I tell you!! Though of course I do hope that Aragorn doesn't recover TOO swiftly. :)
Frodo is perfect here... so brave and selfless and so concerned about everyone but himself. And I sense he's likely to be on the receiving end of warm blankets before the story is over, too. :) And I like your Legolas so much, as he's fun-loving and has a sense of humor and yet retains his elf-like qualities. And Eomer! Wise Eomer, just taking charge.
Did I mention that my heart gave a pitter-patter when the twins found ill Aragorn, who was so dizzy and incoherent he was only half-aware of what was going on? Oh yes, pitter-patters like crazy. And Gandalf... the idea of Gandalf being told ... all right, will quit babbling now!
This story is definitely one of the bright spots of my entire week--and will be the next update, as well.
Author's reply
You encourage me, Lily! I know this won't be as intense as you would like, but it's such a joy to craft an AragornHealing story in Cormallen, my favorite place in Middle-earth. And what better place for him to heal than surrounded by solicitous, brave, and selfless hobbits?

“We’re wasting time,” Frodo said in frustration. “Bring him to our tent.”
Great idea! And I just love it when Frodo uses his commanding voice, even if he speaks to famous elves and a real king!
"Just Éomer, please," the young man said gently. "I am not your king, Frodo. I scarcely feel as if I am anyone’s king."
And I loved Eomer's reply. He's doing his best to adjust to his new position, but I can understand that it still feels odd to him ;-)
Last, but not least Aragorn will receive the best care possible - by the hobbits AND his brothers. I hope he will feel better soon. Although, I have the feeling that his illness will be difficult to diagnose. But you won't do him any harm, will you?
Author's reply
Goodness, I would *never* do him harm except for a bit of concussion, swamp malaise, near-drowning, sprained wrist, fever, or whatever else needs a bit of comfort! The very idea.
I think Frodo is, at his core, a very determined hobbit, whose long healing sleep has done him a world of good. It's great fun exploring the take-charge, "Master of Bag End" side of him. :)
