Beethovens7th · 7 November 2004 · Chapter 7: First Yule: Festivity Tainted, Festivity Missed
ONce again, impecibly done details. from beginning to end, If i ever get have as good as you at adding those lovely details I'll be happy. as to the first part of the story, how perfectly horrible. the innocent children learning such dark things. Will the hobbits ever recover fully do you think? I like to think so, no more dark stories and dark pranks for better times. second part, so sweet and touching. that bit about pip tracing the initials .. another of those fantastic details. These gifts represnt a truer meaning of yule/christmas. a lesson to be learned. at the rate i'm going, i'll never finish this story!! egad.
Beth · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 30: Getting Reestablished
This story is marvelous! I just stumbled on it tonight, and I had to stay up late to finish it. I love the relationship between Esme and Pippin, and the scene in which Esme witnesses Pippin's brush with death at the Black Gate is heart-wrenching and powerful--especially when coupled with Saradoc's reactions! This story has inspired many doodles of green-eyed Tooks across the papers at my desk. If I ever manage to get them to a scanner, I'll have to send you some fan art--probably better than any mangy old review. Keep it rockin'! --Beth
Grey Wonderer · 3 November 2004 · Chapter 30: Getting Reestablished
Way to go Freddy! I hope his father isn't dead, but I do understand Freddy's reasoning. And I dearly love this part! ("I stayed behind once before, I stayed behind and . . ." He sat a bit straighter, taking in a good deep breath as he did. "This time I’ll not stay behind and wait for what may come. This time I move to help us, help all of us hobbits, as much as I can, anyway I can." He looked his cousin squarely in the eye. "You can go or you can stay.") Can't wait for more of this one. I am enjoying it very much!
PIppinfan1988 · 3 November 2004 · Chapter 30: Getting Reestablished
Blessed Pearl!! You're taking us through Fredegar's experiences, too! Fantastic! :-) Here again you display your talent for drawing the reader in to the emotions of your characters--I know I always am. ;-) I can smell more trouble on the horizon for the Shire... Most excellent chapter, Pearl!! Thanks for sharing. :-) Pippinfan
Lindelea · 2 November 2004 · Chapter 30: Getting Reestablished
"I stayed behind once before..." O Freddy, good for you! Very nice take on his becoming a rebel leader, and good thinking and decision-making on his part. Truly, he'd be more use to his father and the hobbits of Bridgefields following the wagon than hovering outside his father's door. VWD, Pearl, and as always I'll be very glad to see more of this one.
Lindelea · 2 November 2004 · Chapter 29: Dealing With Changes in Circumstance
But they won't be back that soon! O poor Paladin! The letter code was brilliant! What a wonderful invention, Pearl. I'm glad you updated tonight, for I missed when you added this chapter and now there's another lovely chapter to read!
Beethovens7th · 29 October 2004 · Chapter 6: A Turning at Yule-Tide
How perfectly wonderfully horrible!! I remember when i read this earlier, it really helped me get in just the right mood for my wicked chapter of Instruments. Oh, eek, you have me wincing all over again over the treatment of the 2 hobbits!! and I knew it was coming! very visual, most awesome! Oh dear! still more hobbit violence! Won't somebody please save the hobbits! Awesome chapter. one of my faves i think. course, i haven't finished the story yet, so we'll see. Did it give you nightmares to be mean to hobbits? i hope not. Huggles.
Beethovens7th · 29 October 2004 · Chapter 5: Troubling News
Oh dear! I have neglected yer story and poor Paladin is having such a rough time of it too!! Maybe if i read faster life will get better? Hmm perhaps not, but this was a very insightful chapter into what it must be like for the overworked dear. And to think, that position is pippins future! Mayhap there won't be dark times during pippins reign. Big Huggles deary!!
shirebound · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 29: Dealing With Changes in Circumstance
Pearl, that "letter code" is brilliant! And I like having a peek at what happened at Orthanc after everyone left. Very interesting and insightful, as always.
Beethovens7th · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 4: Visitors and Visions
Most awesome dream sequence. love the way it jumps around and changes oddly just like a real dream.!! (do hobbits dream in color?)((just another silly question of your amuzement.))
Beethovens7th · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 3: The Secret No One Acknowledged
Oh, how sad, this chapter has no reviews. well, i shall read it and then leave it a review so it won't feel lonely. BRilliant, having those tooks touched with a bit of feyness also physically resemble each other. and ah, green eyes, i do love green eyes. "They stood tight together with their intertwined fingers pushing against the cold pane of glass." lovely, quite lovely.
Beethovens7th · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 2: From the Inside, Out
Do you miss any details? explaining why lotho destroyed crops. great! the gaffer unable to read and so taking his letter to a descrete someone to read it to him. Lovely! Poor gaffer, I'm sure you'll make me cry when he gets booted from his home.
Beethovens7th · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 1: Gone
As always with your stories, beautiful details, very visual, I could just see a worried mother leaning against the glass. And every important detail seen too. How lovely of Esmerelda to write to the other parents. (but couldn't she have just emailed them? what? no email in middle earth?)
Mistarry · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 29: Dealing With Changes in Circumstance
Wonderful, wonderful job! I love it! It's one of my favorite fanfiction stories I've ever read! Great job! :)
Grey Wonderer · 25 October 2004 · Chapter 29: Dealing With Changes in Circumstance
The code is very clever. I am glad that they are able to send messages back and forth and hide the meaning. This is a great story and I was very glad to see more of it posted. Keep it coming. I look forward to more of this,
PIppinfan1988 · 25 October 2004 · Chapter 29: Dealing With Changes in Circumstance
Another superb chapter, Pearl! I love all these nicks and crannies you're filling! :-) Saruman feeling trapped in his tower (good enough for him!) while the Bree and Shire hobbits are feeling anxious. Something's about to happen, isn't it???? C'mon--you can tell me! ;-) Sitting on the edge of my LaZboy waiting for the next update. :-) Pippinfan
bobo baggins · 24 October 2004 · Chapter 28: Spring
*Sniff* That's so sad! But also very sweet. The hobits may feel the peace of the earth, but it's not over yet. They still have the ruffians to deal with. Are you going to make the 4 travelers part of this story too?
Grey Wonderer · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 28: Spring
So very sad about Belle. I am glad to see the Esmeralda is back in the real world with her dear Saradoc again. this is such a lovely story and it fills so many gaps. As always, I look forward to more.
Lindelea · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 28: Spring
A lovely interlude after the steadily-increasing terror of the preceding chapters. I felt so sad that Sam would not come home in time to see his mother again. It is also hard to read, knowing that things are bound to get worse in the Shire before they get better. You're doing a fine job!
Lindelea · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 27: The Ending and a Beginning
O Pearl! I missed this update! Am so glad you updated again today, and am looking forward eagerly to reading the next chapter. Your writing was so powerful, it brought tears to my eyes. I clipped this bit of description, though there was so much more I might have clipped: He aches and is cold and the Shadow still lies upon him, though it has not conquered his heart. I think I held my breath for much of the chapter. I was actually dizzy when I reached the end. I know how it is to struggle with words that won't flow. Hope that you're doing better. (A new chapter? Bodes well.)
shirebound · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 28: Spring
Oh Pearl, this is so very poignant. Especially... "The Dark is gone and the light is shining clean and strong." "In the pink light of that first warm spring evening, a spring their own Sam had helped bring to Middle-earth though they did not know it..." I hope time passes quickly until the Travellers finally return. What a journey you've taken us on!
PIppinfan1988 · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 28: Spring
Such a beautiful, beautiful chapter, Pearl! And the new morning that Saradoc and Esme shared was such a delight! I love it when authors write about "love after 40". I used to be one of the "unbelievers" years ago, but now that *I'm* there, its something I find sweet, adorable, and completely enjoy reading. You write loving details into every breath and kiss. I guess that's one of the many reasons I love your Peregrin & Diamond. The new spring that Sam helped to bring into being, yet his parents and the rest of the Shire didn't know it. Bless our beloved Sam! You are a wonderfully gifted writer, Pearl. I sit here on the edge of my chair waiting for your next update! Take care. Pippinfan
