Poignant, reading Ham's one-sided conversation with Bell. Aargh, those dratted ruffians! How will the Tooks keep them from taking Tookland acre by acre? Ah, Pippin's dreams of smoke, how easily explained. But we know that he's in contact with home, somehow.

Lindelea · 31 January 2005 · Chapter 32: Troubles Brewing

O VWD! The glimpse you give us of spies and rabble-rousers makes me shiver. Of course we know what Paladin's doing, but anyone can be painted in the worst shades if he's not there to defend himself. Ah, yes, and Saradoc... you can just see his care of his people, and Esme's. Poor Pippin! But I'm glad the Travellers have had time to heal from their injuries before returning to the Shire. They'll need their health and strength. Thanks!

Hai Took · 30 January 2005 · Chapter 34: The Summer of Our Discontent

Oh dear, the Lockholes are becoming a bit crowded, so it seems. Although I think it might do a little good to at least have one another. Fatty is doing well it seems, I hope they do try and expand. I can't see them keeping it all to themselves, although their all is still probably not enough. Poor Paladin, he has a lot to contend with! I'm glad he did have a bit of an outburst, then they see that he means business! Looking forward to more!

shirebound · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 34: The Summer of Our Discontent

Paladin is amazing. You can really see where Pippin (who could have grown up a rather spoiled and lazy) gets his resilience and sense of duty.

Beethovens7th · 7 January 2005 · Chapter 17: Guilty Feelings

Yes yes, guilty feelings all around. Big huge clappings. What a great chapter! And what a flip flop. Here i was thinking that Paladin was the one who had done the right thing, whereas now it looks as though perhaps Saradocs methods will prove the wisest. Ah we shall see we shall see. And i'm so gladd for pippin. I know if i were in his shoes, i'd have felt emense guilt. You did a FANTASTIC job of showing just why he WASN"T truely at fault. Huggles for YET ANOTHER great chapter.

Beethovens7th · 6 January 2005 · Chapter 16: Rule Breakers

Some smiles despite the dark times of this story. What brave wonderful tooks! It's too bad the rest of the shire did not stand up to them as well in such a way. but, in keeping with cannon, twas well done. Brave saradoc forgave freely his bride instead of lowly pouting, and then sought to correct his error in what ways he could. As for your writers block, i suppose that is an advantage to starting on this story so late, the next many chapters have already been posted.

Beethovens7th · 6 January 2005 · Chapter 15: Rules

This is what i was fearing. I knew it was coming but alas, tis still a hard blow. If you don't have hundreds of readers for this story, tis only because like me, they would rather go hide under some warm blankets and read the "Hobbit" or some such talewith happy times for the dear hobbits. But again alas, not reading about it does not mean it did not "happen". You are handleing this story very well. I'm sure it was just what tolkien had in mind when he thought of these dark times. but having the details, wow, that is a rough blow! Beethoven's 7th - - off to call my therapist.

Hai Took · 27 December 2004 · Chapter 33: Plans

I love that we're seeing the forming of Fredegar Bolger's rebellion! I always enjoy stories that get into that sort of thing and I'm looking forward to seeing how/when he gets thrown into the Lockholes! Oh, dear Tookland isn't doing so swell! First the mess wiht them being raised against Paladin and now they are being forced further in! Oh my! And Buckland had better watch out! That Pippin is having dreams related to these events must be frightening although he doesn't really know what they mean! Looking forward to more!

PIppinfan1988 · 25 December 2004 · Chapter 33: Plans

"Wrapped in the quilt at night, he was once again wrapped in Bell’s embrace. Touching the shawl and lap-robe was touching her and their Sammy.” - PT That is so sad...and so lovely! And the Gaffer talking to Belle was a brilliant piece of work. His musings are a fantastic window into the happenings of Hobbiton. I felt like I was there with Ron, Fredegar, Estella, and the rest all meeting together to make a stand. LOL...I would swear as I was reading that I could see the expressions on Nob’s and Toby’s face when Freddie said they had been *inside* the Quarry. The build-up of tension is moving along great...I’m on the edge of my seat, Pearl! Eagerly waiting for the next update... :-) Pippinfan p.s. hope your Christmas was happy--and safe.

shirebound · 22 December 2004 · Chapter 33: Plans

You're doing a marvelous job showing the unfolding of Fredegar's "revolutionary" spirit: "Freddie opened his eyes and his father flinched at the boldness he saw in them." Hobbits are certainly amazing creatures!

Grey Wonderer · 21 December 2004 · Chapter 33: Plans

All of it is so heart-breaking and yet it is so wonderful to see how the hobbits work together to hold on in this time of crisis. This part was so touching: (Touching the shawl and lap-robe was touching her and their Sammy. The lad had saved his own money to buy the yarn for his Mum. "In a nice warm yellow, Mum, ‘n the palest of pinks. Like the sun a shinin’ down all bright ‘n warm on them pink roses you love," was what their lad had said to Bell on his birthday when he gave the gift to her.) I also liked how Pippin's dreams could be explained by Denethor, though this time, he has little to do with it all. I wonder if Pippin or Merry will come to realize what the dreams mean as Esmeralda did? Such a wonderful story! More soon, I hope!

Hai Took · 12 December 2004 · Chapter 32: Troubles Brewing

Oh dear, things are ebing stirred up against Paladin now! Also I'm curious as to what is going on with Freddy! Pippin's dream was a bit disturbing, not just a nightmare of what he has seen but what he can't see. I hope that they return soon, I was trying to figure out when they got home but I can't right now. Looking forward to more, hope it is soon!

PIppinfan1988 · 12 December 2004 · Chapter 32: Troubles Brewing

I can see things not getting any better in the Shire--getting worse, if anything. And that trouble-maker, Grigory! You're doing a fantastic job of portraying the Thain and Master's difficulties in governing their respective lands during this time. And the ending of Pippin carrying the lamp up to the roof of the house in Minas Tirith...I just want to hug the little guy. Wonderful chapter, Pearl! :-) Pippinfan

shirebound · 12 December 2004 · Chapter 32: Troubles Brewing

Eeee, get them home quickly, Pearl! It's time for the Travellers to set things right in the Shire. *paces*

Grey Wonderer · 11 December 2004 · Chapter 32: Troubles Brewing

I loved the talk as to whether or not the Thain could be trusted. Very good descriptions and all of it rang true. I also think it's only fair that Pippin is now being drawn to Esmeralda. The Shire needs them to return and it is Pippin's turn to see things that he can't be a part of. Lovely chapter!

Beethovens7th · 29 November 2004 · Chapter 14: Chaos, Deceptions and Deals: The New Shire

Yeah yeah! go paladin! I love his speach to the ruffians!! clappings all around, Ah, but poor poor saradoc. His poor gentle trusting heart, it is with him I most feel kindred to. To have such a trusting giving nature taken advantage of. Makes one feel the worst of fools. Another Fantastic chapter.

Beethovens7th · 28 November 2004 · Chapter 13: The Last Journey

oh, oh dear, oh my. I'm not sure what to say. I thought my story showed evil, but wow, that poor hobbit. suffocated with snow. Oh dear. such evil. Not sure i'll be able to sleep now. egad. how dreadful! Puts faces to the nameless dead though doesn't it? when you hear numbers, it doesn't hit home quite so much. but to know a bit about the dear hobbit, and then to have such a Cruel death. egad. Well done ickyness deary!

Lindelea · 19 November 2004 · Chapter 31: Gaining Knowledge

Hoorah! Another chapter! Fascinating bit of history interwoven with the intrigue. Very nice descriptions, pulling the reader into the scene. Good use of characters: I am enjoying Freddy's growing into the rebel leader he was said to become. So glad you updated! Oh, and loved this bit of irony: "water bottles and blankets they had gathered from the Ruffians"

PIppinfan1988 · 19 November 2004 · Chapter 31: Gaining Knowledge

Most awesome!!!! I absolutely LOVE the history you've written for Scarry and the Quarry!! I felt like Tolkien himself rose from the dead and wrote that bit for you. ;-) Lovely, Pearl! And the plot of the townsfolk having ale and such...just like you to twist and turn the plot--leaving me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails for the next update! Wonderful--thanks for sharing! Pippinfan

Beethovens7th · 19 November 2004 · Chapter 12: A Disturbing Visit

Clap clap clap! Yeah! Fantastic chapter. I've recently watched the movie with the moria part, so twas all very fresh in my mind. Seeing it from Pippins PoV was awesome. Can't wait to see what happens next! Although if you write about the gaffer loosing his home, i'm likely to boo hoo.

shirebound · 19 November 2004 · Chapter 31: Gaining Knowledge

That Fredegar's a shrewd one -- much more to him than meets the eye, or anyone ever imagined. And "useless as Shire Gold" -- what a wonderful saying.

Grey Wonderer · 18 November 2004 · Chapter 31: Gaining Knowledge

Love Freddy in this. He is so in charge and anxious to find out more about everything. He and Ron and doing a good job of gaining information. Such an interesting story. I am really enjoying this one.

Beethovens7th · 17 November 2004 · Chapter 11: Storms

Ya know, In a way, I think that Lobelia is more evil than the men. She is turning on her own people. And burning the offers of help to keep her son on his distructive path. Fantastic chapter. First time i've read it. I do hope that esme reaches her destination safely, but somehow doubt she'll have no troubles on the way. I also really like the snippets that let us know what is going on with the fellowship at the same time. Helps me piece it all in me wee mind. Sorry i'm so slow at reading this. Write on!

Beethovens7th · 8 November 2004 · Chapter 10: Pieces Moving Into Place

I love the interactions between saradoc and esme! so sweet. "Merry's eyes are just like yours." Esme caressed Saradoc's face as tears began to blur her vision. " Oh, this is so good, I do this all the time with my son, who has eyes like my lost brother. sniff. poor poor esme. so sad. And the foreshadowing of Gaffer's fate!! oh dear! I hate to see it happen! and OMG I LOVE the fairy!!! I hope we encounter her more later.

Beethovens7th · 8 November 2004 · Chapter 9: Nearly Calm

And so the tension is building,. . and building. . tick tick. . Another chapter full of fantastic details. I'm hungry, Can i have saradocs elevensies if he isn't going to eat it?
