Ah! Delightful as she faces down the Rohirrim and brings them back to courtesy. Poor Haleth! Now, to see the return of Eomer and what happens then! And having a purpose will aid her on many levels.
Author's reply
Hello Larner,
I also think that by helping the Rohirrim, she is helping herself. And Eomer will be back quite soon, in the next chapter in fact.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Of course the wounded Rohirrim would be disgusted at the mere thought of mounting a donkey... and that gives our Princess the time to actually do something instead of sitting around, plagued by memories and nightmares.
Still... I hope he comes back earlier.
Mona
Author's reply
Hello Mona,
yes, I agree that helping the wounded Rohirrim get mounted properly will make her feel better. But since I'm keeping to canon here, Eomer won't be back for another month. However, I'm hoping that the reunion will make up for the waiting.
Frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch in's Neue Jahr wünsch ich Dir!

That was great! I loved how Lotheriel handled that. It's good you gave her nightmares, otherwise she wouldn't have been so realistic. That parting shot about the mare was hilarious, I love how she still took it as a compliment. Have a Merry Yuletide and New Year.
Author's reply
Hello Galimeril,
yes, I think you can't go through that kind of experience and emerge completely unscathed on the other end. Especially as it got so close and personal for Lothiriel. And she knows her Rohirrim well by now, doesn't she ;-)
Thanks for reviewing and have a Merry Christmas!

Excellent chapter, and a fun story.
No doubt a new project will help with her nightmares and help the days pass until Eomer comes to Gondor again.
Author's reply
Thank you! I agree that keeping busy is really the best thing for her.
Thanks for reviewing.

I laughed out loud at Lothy's "Plan B" just in case Eomer doesn't ask her to marry him. I really love Amrothos' interaction with Lothy and could not wait to "meet" her other brothers and see how they would react to their "changed" sister. It seems that she gets well whenever she has to do tasks related to Rohan--which is very promising given her future role. I hope that Lady Rian and company do not make her life more difficult when Eomer returns to Minas Tirith.
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
in a way it's a shame that she won't have to fall back on her 'Plan B', isn't it. But I can't see Eomer needing a lot of persuasion - so don't worry about Lady Rian. And I agree that seeing the wounded Rohirrim and making the decision to help them was probably the best thing that could have happened to her.
Thanks for reviewing and have a Merry Christmas!

I have to laugh at the way Amrothos is so sure he knows Eomer's romantic inclinations better than Lothiriel does. Won't he be surprised! I love the idea that she's so sure of herself. She knows Eomer wouldn't trifle with her. And apparently half the Rohirrim know too. That is so fine.
It's good that she has something useful to do again. I hope her family recognizes her strengths and needs and lets her go to it.
Author's reply
Hello Daw,
yes, poor Amrothos is in for a bit of a shock, I think. The idea that his little sister has grown up and might be attractive has not quite got through to him. But at least in Rohan they won't be surprised at Eomer's choice of queen.
And I think her family will support Lothiriel in her endeavours to help the Rohirrim, although they might be surprised by her efficiency.
Thanks for reviewing and have a Merry Christmas!

I've been reading along, but have just been very derelict in my duties as a reader to review. I've enjoyed this whole story so far very much! I'm glad Lothiriel and Eomer are on the right page and the misunderstanding is cleared. The part where Amrothos repeated Eomer's Rohirric phrase was funny. If he only knew what it meant... Thanks for writing
Alqua
Author's reply
Hello Alqua,
it's good to hear from you again and I hope you're keeping well! I really felt that the time was ripe to have their misunderstandings cleared up, as they've both had considerable thinking time. And if Amrothos is lucky, his accent is too garbled for anybody to understand him ;-)

What a lovely romantic scene!I love the way the horses and their owners mirror one another here, though I expect there will be a foal for the equine pair while the humans need to get Imrahi's consent to marry.
Author's reply
Hello Linda,
yes, I agree that the horses have a head start. But then maybe they're just cleverer! The humans still have a few hurdles to clear until they can catch up.

I enjoyed reading this very much--especially that Lothy was able to tell Eomer the truth--it made me feel warm all over. It was very clever of him to see that the horses had given them an excuse to rush off and talk alone. I just love how you insert little details in previous chapters and then bring them back to good effect like Felarof, her hair ornament and the kites (previous chapter)! Wulf and Wuffa are worth their weight in gold too! Wonder how Eowyn and Faramir will take the developments and will Eomer and Lothy be separating now? The celebration/ball in Minas Tirith is still some time away, right?
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
I look at writing as if I were making a carpet, so I love to take up details from previous chapters (or sometimes even different stories) and bring them up again. It's nice to hear you like how this holds the whole thing together.
And they really deserved a break, didn't they! I felt that they both had had the time to reflect on the situation and that it was ripe for a resolution. As for what happens next, Eomer has to return to Rohan and Lothiriel has to carry on to Minas Tirith, although that seems to have slipped their mind for the moment. So still a while until we hear wedding bells!

Good dog indeed. *huge grin* And now I'm trying to imagine Amrothos, making the hazardous attempt to bid Erkenbrand Good Night in his own language. *starts laughing*
I was high time for Éomer to find out about the truth, btw. Thank you!

Author's reply
Hello Mona,
Eomer has a clever horse and Lothiriel has a clever dog! As for that scene with Amrothos, it's so tempting, I might write it as a oneshot one day.
And I thought it was time for these two to sort out their differences and get back on track for their happy end.

At last Eomer hears the truth! Good for him for recognizing it. And he's quite clever at deflecting questions too. I hope Lothiriel gets to see the nasty women eat crow in the morning.
Author's reply
Hello Daw,
I told you I'd come up with something. And although they had the odd mishap, overall I think it was a very successful evening. But Eomer is so frugal with the truth because he recognises that it's not the right moment for an announcement - so no crow eating yet ;-)

Well, you made me do it: I just had to look up the gestation period for horses... looks like it's around 11 to 11-1/2 months.
I hope Éomer and Lothíriel are married by then! Not sure they'll be able to wait through a long betrothal. Though, as fond as you are of putting them through the wringer..........
Nice chapter, Lia! I'm glad she finally had the chance to tell him what happened, though I think she glossed over the sordid detail a bit (though Éomer, knowing Wormtongue so well, can fill in the gaps quite effectively, I'm sure).
But when the riverbank collapsed, and then the root broke off, I couldn't help but thinking that you have a sadistic streak a mile long.... LOLOL!
Nice job! ;-) Not that I have a tendency to approve of sadism, or anything like that......
- Barbara
Author's reply
Hello Barbara,
I assure you in reality I'm a very nice person *innocent look*. When the idea of the collapsing riverbank came to me, I just couldn't resist it ;-) And it did give them the opportunity for that kiss, though it was a bit gravelly.
So overall I think I was quite nice to them in this chapter and they probably won't even have them wait too long for their wedding. Like you, I believe that they wouldn't appreciate that.
As for glossing over the details, maybe she did not want to dwell on them too much and bring back the memories. What she went through during the war might well come back to haunt her periodically.

This is almost as good as Bodkin's having the twins repeating silly things in Dwarvish! Poor Amrothos--if he knew what he was saying! Heh!
And love the various ways of shifting the focus employed by all. And dear Wulfra leading them all on a merry chase through it all!
Now, how long before Nimphelos's foal is born?
Author's reply
Hello Larner,
what Amrothos is saying is probably so garbled that he wouldn't be understood anyway, although it's a tempting scene to write ;-) And what you said about the dog made me think that this story is full of clever animals!

Mwahahahahah! Traditional hairstyle of shieldmaidnes indeed! You really do have a talent for sneaking them in there.
Poor Nimphelos! I wonder if she even wants to get away, if firefoot is as good a catch as Eomer, I should think not... ;)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Author's reply
Hello Galimeril,
I would have thought that Firefoot definitely is as good a catch as Eomer - and perhaps more intelligent than his master as well ;-)

Ah! Now stallion and mare are causing the disruption just when the truth of their obviously mutual attraction is about to be aired! Too funny!
And love how she shut down Hurin's lady. Go, Lothiriel!
Author's reply
Hello Larner,
yes, Firefoot has definitely stolen the show there! But to quote my favourite author, Hyarmendacil: The mark of the true warrior is to know when to act and to do so swiftly and decisively. Maybe Eomer should fall back on his warrior qualities...

“No,” I replied. “It’s a traditional style for Shieldmaidens in the Mark.” I pulled a strand of my hair forward. “You cut off a finger’s breadth for every orc that you kill.”
Hehe. I wouldn't have made it half that long. That lady is a royal nuisance. And of course there has to be something to come in between what might have turned out as some kind of reconciliation. Why am I not surprised that it is a horse? *grins*

Hello Mona,
well, he is a horselord! Maybe Eomer should consider though, that the 'stupid animal' is more successful in getting what he wants than his master. Perhaps there's a lesson there?

Hi Lia,
Thanks for the update. I had to smile at Eomer's "Freudian slip" early in the chapter. It's obvious how Eomer is having a difficult time denying his feelings for her. The mention of the kites and how they helped was a nice surprise--so that's what they were used for!
I can't wait to see how Eowyn and Lothy's relationship will heal and what's in store for the young King of Rohan and Lothy.
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
Eomer's heart is still battling with his mind - but he simply needs a push in the right direction. Maybe he'll let himself be inspired by Firefoot!
Eowyn I see as being able to hold a grudge much longer, so it might take a while for them to become friends again. But they will eventually!

What a stark contrast between how Lothiriel has lived and how Lord Hurin's entourage is setting up camp now. Lothiriel has a lot of what might be called battle scars, and they've made her stronger. I hope she gets up the courage and gets a chance to tell Eomer what really happened.
Author's reply
Hello Daw,
yes, I agree that her time in Rohan and learning that she is able to cope on her own have definitely made her stronger. As the ladies of the court just found out! And what she really needs is some private space and time with him without getting constantly interrupted... I'll have a look what I can come up with ;-)

I'm glad you let Ceolwen have an easy time with breastfeeding, because the birth must have been bad enough!
So Lothiriel is now taking matters into her own hands and is caught off guard by Eomer once again. And now there's nothing left but to wait, for her and for me, until you post the next chapter...
Author's reply
And here I thought I'd let her have an easy birth! But then any birth without modern pain relief would be an ordeal, IMO.

That was even scarier. I got a bit confused as to what exactly happened in that scene with the Dunlending, but I suppose that's just a reflection on how confusing the actual situation was.
Author's reply
This is actually a scene that I would have liked to write from Eomer's point-of-view, but of course it's not possible. I'm sure he had a much clearer picture of what happened, but for Lothiriel it's just very confusing.
