Thanks, i've been waiting for this charpter...I'm terrified, I mean, I don't know if I can go to sleep tonight. I'm so worry now, please do not damage them too much...do not kill Kaimelas, I just hope that the arrow in his chest was a mix between past and future events, well, one can always hope...Faramir is an increible character, I really love the way that you write about him, it will be good if he can help him more, not only with dreans interpretations. Anyway, the shears part was funny, that is when sometimes dreams can be so confusing, you just mix everything and sometimes doesn't make any sense. Well, I don't need to tell you how I have enjoyed this charpter, that I can hardly wait for more and that you are a superb writer. Thanks, Fantasia

Author's reply

Thank you, Fantasia! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I don't know if you read the original Green Knight fic, in which Kaimelas sustains his chest wound. He was shot by a man in an ambush on the slopes of Amon Din and nearly died, and now his lung is hopelessly compromised. That is why Legolas turned him into a valet, when before he was a mighty warrior. I'll give you a hint ... the shears turn out to be very significant in a later chapter. Ssshhhh!!!! *winks*

artistic sprite · 14 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

Poor Tamin!

Author's reply

Yes, poor Tamin! Haven't we all been there, in one form or another? Anyone who reminisces fondly about high school needs their head examined.

Becky O'Calahan · 8 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

Do you plan to have Legolas never sleep again? The poor Elf can only take so much... I'm waiting for him to collapse in the middle of dinner. This little drama was wonderful to watch play out. I was expecting another night terror for Legolas when you sent him off to bed, but I was way off the mark :P I can see Fastred coming around soon, if he followed his wise mother's advice and apologized. Although his pratishness is so very amusing it would be nice to see how he and Leodwyn develop. It's lucky that Faramir and Eowyn had more than one child; if Tamin had been stranded in Osgiliath with no one to play with (excluding his Master, who would probably oblige happily) he would feel even more alone.

Author's reply

"Prattishness;" yes, that describes Fastred's current state well, doesn't it? I don't know what it is about adolescent boys; they can be so cruel to each other!

Emily · 6 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

Wow. Kaimelas is right...Fastred is behaving like a little wort! He's gone from a Prince Caspian-esque character to being rather more like Eustace Scrubb. Poor little Tamin! The entire family at Tamin's little trial was hilarious! From Mom and Dad containing their laughter behind serious faces to the helpful little brother to the little lady of a sister to the self-righteous wort of a firstborn--I feel like I've met these people before! As everyone seems to be putting in pleas for Legolas's safety, let me add a word for my favorite Elf, that old battle-ax of a King, none other than his majesty Thranduil Oropherion. May he come out of this story with his person intact (or as well and whole as you can conveniently make him)! Thanks for the update; looking forward to more!

Author's reply

An interesting comparison between Caspian and Eustace ... but remember that even Caspian had his moments, and Eustace was ultimately redeemed. Don't worry; I may take Thranduil out to play, but I always put him back in the box intact.

Nieriel Raina · 5 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

I'll gladly take tips! *grin* Or just rememeber you will owe me big time if you hurt my elf. *taps foot* I still want that romance for him, ya know. And this was my favorite chapter to date. I want to adopt Theodred. *snorts* He was so perfectly written. Reminded me SO much of my nephews who I helped raise during my teen years. They were more like little brothers than nephews and I could just hear them spouting these kinds of lines too! He just kept me in stitches. The comic relief helped relieve some of the tension as well. Poor Tamin. I feel so badly for him. And I want to join Kaimelas in whipping a couple of foolish teens (Fastred and Leodwyn). So very typically adolescent. They have so much to learn. I think Tamin will be much better at this romance stuff when it comes to be his turn. He's already learned how to woo the ladies and be concerned for their feelings. Me thinks Hisime may have a bit of a crush? Not serious, but cute nonetheless. So...will Legolas ever sleep? Will you torture your poor readers by torturing Legolas and Thranduil as well? Will Fastred ever get the girl? Will Halgond's nose ever be the same again? I'm staying tuned for another episode! *silly grin* I look forward to more!

Author's reply

Poor Halgond! I did sort of leave him and his nose hanging, didn't I? Well, I was never crazy about him anyway ...

Agape4Gondor · 4 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Tamin

Oh my! I've been wanting to read this forever - and everytime the note pops up and tells me another chapter has been added, I've been too busy! But today - I finally took the time. Well worth the wait. Delightful first chaper. I will endeavor to read more today... but I love this much!

eliza · 4 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

Oh what a absolutely wonderful chapter Le Rouret. First, I think I am absolutely jealous of Seimiel, Kaimelas is turning out to be my favorite elf. Poor Tamin (actually poor me, my firstborn is having his first romance at 16 and has turned into a absolue horror-I'm two steps from murder) hopefully Gimil and Barnabas will be able to help him understand us mortals. If you ever have to pay your beta, I'll chip in, your stories are wonderful are worth a lot of mithril E

Author's reply

You can pay my beta by thanking her! And by reading her fics; she's an excellent writer herself. And she's careful with commas. I appreciate that. Romances and adolescents rarely congress without incident. My condolences. Fortunately for me, my fourteen-year-old will not countenance romance with a boy who isn't "horsy," and her true love is a black and white piebald paint!

Fiondil · 4 March 2008 · Chapter 8: One Too Quick, the Other Too Slow

Little Tamin is so sweet and innocent. He doesn't deserve a snot like Fastred for a friend. I loved Hisilmë trying to act like Isolde with Tristan only to have little brother butt in as only little brothers can. *grin* And I'm not surprised no one got the celebrity quote: I've never even heard of Davey Havok and wouldn't know him from a hole in the wall. But then, I live in China, so maybe it's just me. *grin* Can't wait to see what happens next!

Author's reply

The only reason I know who Davey Havok is is because of my fourteen-year-old daughter, who thinks he's "hot." But she also thinks Alan Rickman is "hot," so I'm not overly concerned. No one seems to feel sorry for Hisime! Poor girl.

Wimsey · 3 March 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

I had to laugh at your view of Middle-Earth Heathers and jocks. I am a tiny bit disappointed in Fastred. I truly hope Legolas comes out of this wiser, but unscathed. I am worrying for him. I take comfort in the visions Fastred had of him in your earlier story. It helps me tell myself that everything will be ok in the end, (everything will be ok in the end right?) I am one of those hopless people that have to know it will all turn out well, I (gasp) actually usually read the end of the book first. When I got the last Harry Potter, I turned to the last chapter, only then could I relax and enjoy the story. I know it is blasphemous, but one has to do what thy have to do.

Author's reply

Do you know how I was going to end the Himbaláth/Andunië subplot in "The Heir of Meduseld"? I was going to have Andunië reject him completely, and Himbaláth ride off alone to the North, ostensibly to rejoin his brethren in Eryn Lasgalen; but he would pass "into the shadows of the northern woods, neither seen nor heard from again." It was a lovely pathetic ending and very heart-wrenching. And I simply couldn't do it to the poor guy. Don't worry. I'm a hopeless romantic, too.

Ceren Cae · 1 March 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

I've read your other stories, but this is my first time to review (sorry). You are wonderful! I absolutely adore the Green Knight series. Your Middle Earth is brilliantly constructed and your characters are very well developed. I really like Tamin, and I'm glad to see him as Legolas' esquire. I loved Little Bandy, but I enjoy seeing Bandobras all grown up. I look forward to your next installment!

Author's reply

Thanks for the review! I admit I tend to enjoy my OCs better than Tolkien's characters ... though it is awfully fun "playing" with them!

Dreamflower · 28 February 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

Oh dear, poor Tamin! It must be so hard for him to have his friend growing up ahead of him--and going through that particular stage of life in which the brain is located in the backside! Fastred's friends don't seem too savory; I can't imagine that either Faramir or Eowyn would put up with that sort of cruel snobbery in their court if they witnessed it! Faramir would freeze them with a look, and send them off with their tails between their legs without even speaking a word. And Eowyn? Well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty! I really love your Faramir--he is very much canon-Faramir, wise, discerning and thoughtful. I thought it was perfect the way he reacted to Legolas' questions and problems--taking it all absolutely seriously, and yet also wanting time to give it thought before giving advice. And I hope the two of them have a good time fishing--though poor little Tamin really needs to confide in someone right now. Perhaps Gimli or Bandy can comfort him...

Author's reply

I relied rather heavily upon my 14-year-old daughter's advice for this particular chapter. I asked her what it would feel like if she met her best friend at the age of ten ... and five years later, she was 15, but her best friend was still ten. So I haven't completely given up on poor Fastred; can you imagine how frustrating that would be? But you're right about his "friends" - Not exactly the type of kids any parent would like their children hanging round. I'm glad you like "my" Faramir! When I first started The Green Knight I had intended to focus more on Legolas' relationship with Aragorn, but as the stories progressed it seemed more likely in my universe that Legolas and Faramir would become very close. Their demesnes were side by side, and I always thought Legolas and Éowyn would become friends. Unlike his mortal peers, Legolas wouldn't find it odd at all that Éowyn could be heroic too.

Becky O'Calahan · 28 February 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

Ohhh I love the brotherly behavior of Faramir and Legolas at the end of this chapter. The way just talking to Faramir brought Legolas out of his eerie, freaked-out mood and then got him promptly started planning mischief! That elf is such a bad influence... but I forgive him because he is just so lovable. You have me so worried... Poor Legolas for just about every reason from lack of sleep to possible destruction of Eryn Lasgalen, poor Faramir for being pulled into this, poor Tamin for his first awkward encounter with mortal teenagers, and poor Kaimelas for having to deal with it all without being filled in on the details. Waiting patiently (read: anxiously) for the next chapter

Author's reply

A bad influence, yes! But never in a cruel way; I more picture Éowyn being exasperated than angry. The next chapter is up! Just remember, things have to get worse before they can get better.

Emily · 27 February 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

I had to read this chapter several times in order to fully appreciate everything that's going on in it. I loved the opening, with Bandy and Kaimelas and the pastries, oh so kindly leaving the gooseberry pastries for the others. And then--heaven preserve us--Middle-Earth adolescents! It was a good trick, showing us Lord Fastred's little court through the eyes of innocent Tamin--how the young one's wisdom was greater than the very grown up teenagers. I laughed at Fastred's beard! I wonder what Faramir thinks of his son. I can't picture Faramir as a conceited youngin'. I bet he's betimes amused and horrified by Fastred. Speaking of Faramir, I dearly love his portrayal here. He's so calmly wise and good-natured. The conversation he and Legolas had was very compelling, and very well carried forward by movements or sights--Legolas changing his seating arrangement, the view out the window, the sudden strike of the vision. I, like Legolas, am relieved in my mind that Faramir will be giving the vision his full attention. I only wish that I could see Kaimelas' face when he finally tracks Legolas down, only to find him fishing!

Author's reply

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you appreciated Tamin's first run-in with mortal adolescents. What a shock for that poor boy! And no, I can't imagine Faramir is any too pleased with his son's taste in friends. I'm glad you like "my" Faramir. The more I write in my Green Knight universe, the more I enjoy the dynamic between Legolas, Faramir, and Éowyn. There is so much richness in their personalities and the possibilities are nearly endless.

Nieriel Raina · 25 February 2008 · Chapter 7: The Sons of Denethor

I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter, though I wanted to turn those rude adolescents over my knee! Poor Tamin. And Poor Legolas. I worry so much for him. You have your poor beta on pins and needles! *bites fingernails* Now Faramir has seen part of it too. I worry for what it to come. If you so much as harm a single hair on his pretty head....I'll...I'll.... cry. *buys stock in tissue company* I'm embarrassed to say I'm not up enough on celebrities to even make an attempt at guessing the quote. I'm interested to see if anyone does though. Excellent chapter. I eagerly await chapter 8!

Author's reply

No one got the quote! Not that I expected anyone to; AFI fans rarely intersect with LotR ones. And if they do, they probably read the angsty slash. Working on Ch. 9!

Emily · 15 February 2008 · Chapter 6: The Seneschal Twice Confounded

After a week like this one's been, taking tests and living off Diet Coke and Twizzlers, it's a real treat to come on here and see this story. In fact, I traded in my nap time in order to read this chapter (not something easily done, I assure you). So thank you for the update. It's very appreciated. After Kaimelas' and Gimli's chat, I was highly pleased with the trial scene. I was expecting a Very Bad Man and found myself delighted with poor Ardun and all those rascally Elves. The leech's indignation, Galas' flippancy, Himbalath's steady sharpening of his blade, Hiricullas' scribbling away with inky fingers. It was so droll with all of this going on around poor confused Ardun, who probably can't even spell his own name. Legolas' interaction with Galas was especially good, especially further in the chapter when they're at the table. I loved how Legolas got stubborn and Galas angry. What is a good seneschal to think of all this duplicity?” “Should I have the opportunity to meet with a good seneschal I shall ascertain,” said Legolas; Hee! That made me spit. It's a good thing Galas is older than Legolas, as I'm sure they would not be such good friends if they had grown up together. And Gimli just watching it all and plotting away to help Legolas. I loved how very cunningly he suggested that Legolas and Bandy bring their armor. Nice. Equally nice was that the Very Bad Man did indeed get his just deserts. Tastefully and tactfully done. Cannot wait for more!

Author's reply

Diet Coke and Twizzlers? Sounds like my normal university diet of Dr. Pepper and Doritos. I love Galas, and I think you're right - he and Legolas would not nearly have been as good friends had they grown up together in Doriath. If I didn't think it would bore everyone to tears, I might concoct a Galas-driven story one day.

Nieriel Raina · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 6: The Seneschal Twice Confounded

I really enjoyed this chapter, especially Gimli and Galás. The humor nicely broke up the more serious nature of the chapter and was much needed after that last *shiver* dramatic chapter. And I'm very happy to see chapter title and numbers! YAY! Great chappie! I look forward to more soon.

Author's reply

Brace yourself, O Thrice-blessed Beta! Chapter 8 is in the works.

Wimsey · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 6: The Seneschal Twice Confounded

I like the interplay you have between your charaters, it helps so much with revealing their natures. I am sure there will be much excitement and intrigue and it will be a fun ride. I also liked the way you summarily dispensed justice for the scourage of a man. Ah, if only our own laws worked so quickly and well.

Author's reply

I recall DL Sayers contemplating (via Harriet) that the British justice system waited a little too long to dispense with those awaiting their death penalty. Having watched my brother-in-law work the legal system for 20 years and somehow evade justice, I wanted a touch of immediate retribution. A shame indeed I can acquire it only through fanfiction.

Becky O'Calahan · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 6: The Seneschal Twice Confounded

Haha Galas is one of my favourite OC's of yours...I like that you added more of him in this chapter and showed a bit of his 'dark side' too. I was so excited to see you updated! I was worried that your last author's note meant that updates would be few and far between. I'm happy I was wrong :) So how will Legolas and co. ditch poor Kaimelas? Perhaps when they are off walking through lovely Osgiliath Legolas will suddenly yell "Run! To Eryn Lasgalen!" and take off, leaving Kaimelas and his arrow-wound shaking his fist at their dust... Looking forward to the next chapter (and more of Galas' suspicious mind being revealed?)

Author's reply

Poor Kaimelas! No, I hope Legolas won't treat his valet in quite so cavalier a fashion. Galas, yes, Kaimelas, no! I'm updating as quickly as possible! Show season and flu season have coincided and I can't write as often as I'd like. But I have no intentions of pulling a P2Q on you guys.

CandissD · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 6: The Seneschal Twice Confounded

Ooh this is getting better and better! I love little Tamin - so excited to be going to Osgiliath! :) Can't wait to see what happens!

Author's reply

Thanks for the review! I hope you like the next chapter.

Nieriel Raina · 1 February 2008 · Chapter 5: The Dream

I still say this dream sequence is some of your best writing and imagery I've seen from you! That says a lot considering how high I hold your writing. I was afraid to sleep after reading this chapter! LOL! Thankfully, I didn't suffer any ill effects, except to now be on the edge of an anxiety attack worried about Legolas and Thranduil! This Renna seems to have some kind of powers she shouldn't have as a Mortal, and that greatly disturbs me. Love the discussion between Legolas and Gimli and Legolas' seeking Gimli out. I love the dwarf! And I loved Legolas' blushing as he realized rushing home on the excuse to fetch Durfinwen would cause a stir. *grin* Great chapter! I eagerly await more, though with much trepidation!

Becky O'Calahan · 31 January 2008 · Chapter 5: The Dream

Hmm. I wonder who the 'she' from Legolas' dream is - Durfinwen? Renna? Ugh *shivers* what a creepy dream. Poor Legolas. I would not be going back to bed any time soon after having a snake slither down my throat. I like the way the dream was written, it's all disconnected and hazy but flows towards one concluding point, like all good dreams should :) I'm excited, as ever, for the next chapter to see where this is all going.

Wimsey · 30 January 2008 · Chapter 5: The Dream

OOOH, Dark and foreboding, I quite like dark and foreboding. This chapter has certainly given us something to ponder and to wonder about. I hope you don’t damage poor Legolas and his family too badly. Just enough to be interesting, not enough to hurt too much. Did you drop a tiny hint that he may be just a little interested in Durfinwen, or it is too much to hope for that his heart may have softened? This part made me laugh: What in the name of the twelve lower levels of Mandos do you mean. Is that anything like the seven circles of Hell, and perhaps a more thorough description could be in order? Anyway you have set the stage for an interesting romp; I have bought my ticket and will stay on board.

Dreamflower · 30 January 2008 · Chapter 5: The Dream

What dire dreams those are! The serpent-images reminded me of the Green Lady in C.S. Lewis' The Silver Chair, very disturbing and evocative! And yay! for Gimli. He is practical even in his acceptance of the mystical--he finds no incongruity in heeding dreams, but he also thinks about the logistics of the thing! Good old Gimli!

Dreamflower · 30 January 2008 · Chapter 4: Letters from Rhovanion

Oh my word! Such intrigues! My curiousity is very greatly roused, and I look forward to seeing just what is going to come of them! I was laughing out loud at Thranduil's complaints of the Master's wife. I have a hunch there is more to her flirting than lust!

Dreamflower · 30 January 2008 · Chapter 3: The Little White Horse

This is just lovely! Not only do you continue with the beautiful archaic style of yours that I love, but you've succeeded in creating in Tamin one of those old-fashioned child-heroes who are filled with goodness and enthusiasm--I'm much reminded of Hodgson-Burnett--and yet there is just enough scamp in him to keep him from being cloying. And Bandy, well, Bandy continues to delight me. I loved the way he and Legolas were struggling towards finding more equal forms of address--it's not an easy thing to just make a change like that! And I'm quite taken with the little white horse. What a personality!
