· Chapter 35: Tamin Tries his Hand
My dear, dear author,
I hope you are well and safe in these troubled times. Thank you SO much for writing and sharing this story — I am so utterly in love with it! I actually started reading this one back on Open Scrolls, (where I also devoured most of your other works) and was so delighted to find all the additional chapters over here. I feel very lousy for not leaving a review for each chapter, but I just couldn't...stop. I apologise!
I think it's wonderful that you kept coming back to this story over the course of more than a decade (I admit I have been doing almost the exact thing myself :D), and even though it's been a few years since you published the latest chapter I shall not lose hope that you might return some day — either with a continuation of this or a sequel. Either would send me over the moon!
I did wonder if the 'in Progress'-status might not be an oversight and this story is in fact actually complete (as the end of the last chapter did seem a bit like it might be the actual ending), BUT if it isn't I wouldn't mind some more wrapping-up either ;)(No pressure though) Either way - thank you again for sharing this incredible work with us. Your writing is well worth waiting for, and when/if you might return with some more, I will definitely be there for it.
All the best to you! ♥

· Chapter 15: Renna of Dale
My heart froze when I realised we had to click yes/no on this chapter. You are a brilliant writer and I was silently begging you would not allow our beloved elf prince to be violated. I was glued to my screen while reading this chapter. And Kaimelas with his three penny wh*re explanation made me snort with laughter into my coffee. Le Rouret I do hope there's plot bunnies jumping around. We need a fluff piece. I vote Legolas/Gimli during their less friendly times. I need a good laugh! Your stories got me through some dark times and even now I revisit it.
PS: I found the experience Legolas was having with Renna quite titillating *cough* I'm not twisted *cough*

What an amazing surprise! I don't even read LotR fan fic any more, but once in a while visit this website for the sole purpose of seeing if there has been an update to this story. Today, delightfully, there was a new chapter (even though it was posted some months ago. Oh I'm so glad that Tamin and Fastred made up. What a happy ending for them and for Fastred and Leodwyn. I am so hoping there is another update coming. I want to see Eowyn's baby! Thank you for this chapter! I am glad you are healthy and happy.

I was so thrilled to see an update to this gem! I‘m a long-time lurker and I’ve been following your stories since I was in my teens/early twentie, but back then I don’t think I ever took the time to write you a review. I wanted to write one now to tell you how much I’ve loved the Green knight series and how much I hope you’ll be able to keep writing in the future. If nothing else, seeing this update was a bright spot amid all the craziness of the global pandemic. Thank you for the new chapter!

Le Rouret, you have no idea how happy I’m that you are well and for this update. Your green knight universe is one of my favorites and I have really missed it. I don’t visit the site as often as before, so the updates really took me by surprise.
Happy to see Tamil and Fastred as friends once again. Looking forward for Legolas and Faramir re encounter, they interactions so many chapters away was one of my favorites scenes.
Not sure now if we will have a Legolas and Anóriel love story. I thought that at the beginning of this story, but it seems that we will need another one for that.
Again, thank you very much for this. It was like reconnecting with an old friend and an old chapter of my reading habits. As usual, you are incredible good writer and one of the few I have read that follow the old romance style.
Thanks again! And be well

:puts on my 'I'm with Elessar' shirt: I think I could use a Tamin of my own.
A bath! Horrors!
I love the little detail that Gimli made Bandobras's armor. I also love the little details that paint the various scenes so clearly.
Unless it benefits Dol Galenehtar, of course. Then you may listen all you like. Hahahahah!
(And now I'm thinking what a remarkable thing it was for Pippin to be made a knight well before he reached his majority!)
I like the name 'Spark' for a pony; may I borrow it sometime?
Looking forward to reading more.

Oho! A new story (new for me, anyhow) to savor! It is late now, but I have added this to the list for my next reading-and-relaxation session, starting from the beginning, of course. Happy to make your acquaintance!

· Chapter 34: Of Elves and Men
Dear Le Rouret, I have devoured all your stories posted at SOA in the last four days. It was quite a treat for me! You have a very unique style, and your love for the Elves, as well as the interesting culture of knights, is very obvious. These Elves I could definitely see sitting in trees in Rivendell mocking Bilbo by singing "Tra La La Lally!" They are beautiful and terrible as well.
This latest story of yours is very dark in places, so I am glad I am coming into it now, when most of the angst has been resolved, and it looks like better times are ahead. I am looking forward to the finish though, to see Tamin reconciled with Fastred, and perhaps a bit of pain if Legolas writes to Pippin about the tragic death of his nephew. Made me cry. I hope your personal troubles will let you write more soon.

I was so excited to see an update. It is never too late. And it was well worth the wait. Bard was delightful. He is so unsure of himself. I like his fantasy about Durfinwen. And Legolas' attack on Bard and Tamin was such a treat. I can just picture it. I was glad to see Aragorn show up and give Legolas a fright. Erk! I am only sad that this story is almost over. Have you got some other bunny stirring around in your brain?

Le Rouret, I'm glad that you are back and glad that your life is back to normality. Take care of yourself, I'm sure that we can wait years for you to update.
I have missed you a lot. There is not one here that describes a medieval court like you and your Legolas and friends are very real to me.
So, it seems that things are taking its curse once again, and Aragorn is there to help. So, Meivel and the two ladies were running off form Galas. Eveybody was doing all in secrecy. Poor Bard, to young and scared, a lot of responsibility in his shoulders, he will need all the help he can get.
It seems that the whole world is in love with Durfinwen, but still, I want her for Legolas (do you remember our vote some years ago?)
Tamin has been the great surprise, so mercurial, so brave. I remember Fastred's vision of him as a knight; he will be a such a brave and merry knight. Also, I can wait to see him a love, he is so innocent about that, I just re-read the tale and was laughing with Faramir's daughter nursing him.
Legolas has to hurry; there is a baby in his way waiting for him. I was surprised not to see Faramir (I was waiting him, not Aragorn) they parting was so emotional; they do have a great friendship.
Thanks again for posting. I love this story and take care.

· Chapter 33: Milkthistle and Feverfew
I must say this is a much lighter chapter considering the nature and level of gloom of the others. I was so glad that Gimli reminded Legolas not to think like a man and still find it shocking how others might think less of Durfinwen now that she is no longer pure AND that her Lordthought so too for a brief moment. In the beginning I was against it, but now I think Legolas and Durfinwen would make a sweet pairing. Considering what thex have been through I think they are just what each other needs. BUT I did notice the slight reluctance Durfinwen had when Legolas told her what he believes his dreams ment to him. Then again, thinking of what the poor ellith went through with the male species recently I dont blame her. I cant help but wonder if Bandobras' spirit is still there guiding Tamin to be the best esquire he can be and chiding him for not folding his masters clothes right ;-] It saddens me thinking this story is coming to an end and I really hope there is a nagging little plot bunny bouncing around in your head somewhere giving you great ideas. Really well written and congratulations on keeping your readers so hooked. Not many authors get that right. Hope to go through this year reading more of your stories. Shlain

Thank you, Shlain! And I apologize for how long it's taken me to respond to your review. You are right on both counts - Durfinwen has simply been too abused to lightly accept any suit, Legolas', Bard's, or anyone's. And Tamin is definitely hearing voices!
Chapter 34 is FINALLY up. Took me long enough, didn't it!

I also wanted to say that I really liked the symmetry of this line:
“Convalesce here if you like; but I require you in Ithilien. I refuse to share you with my Lady Mother any longer.”
How much has changed since Legolas said this towards the start.
Author's reply
Thank you for your review, eucalyptus; and I apologize for how long it's taken me to get back to you! Yes, a lot has changed since the beginning of this tale (in RL as well as in fanfic). Legolas and Durfinwen are very different people now. But Chapter 34 is up, and 35 in the works; hopefully we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

This chapter was well worth all the horror of the previous chapters. Very beautifully written. It was nice to see Legolas restore some of Durfinwen's spirit -- and his own in the process. She is truly a special character, and this story has been an absolute joy to read.

Finally!
;)
Good, stolid Gimli! Wise Thranduil - to speak so to Gimli. Wise Legolas - to realize that he had obligations ("was busy"), and that Valinor would have to wait.
There were some lovely bits of humor throughout this chapter, from Tamin chivvying Legolas to the tale of his defiance towards Baranil. Yes, indeedy, this whole misadventure has been a growing up experience for Tamin, in more ways than one.
I also enjoyed the hangover-related humor ("parboiled liver"? LOL!), and the flirting of the Dwarves... all great fun.
But Legolas and Dúrfinwen-! Do I see a glimmer of hope there? Such speeches Legolas made to her! Calling her an equal! And this:
“My dreams sent me not to the east to find Muhk, Anóriel,” he said slowly. “They sent me to find you, and I will be damned if I let you slip away, now that you are safely to shore.”
My, my, if that wasn't telling...
But wait-! Dúrfinwen had "reluctant comprehension" in her eyes? Uh-oh. Methinks this is going to take some time and effort, to win her over. (If ever - *sob*!)
The big interesting question, at this point, revolves around Dúrfinwen's future role in Legolas' court. There seems to be some sort of presumption that *everyone* - including the Men of Gondor - will know her "status", despite Legolas' vow to keep her "sad secret". Huh?
Among the Elves, one might guess that there would be some sign (such as that which lets other Elves know that one is wed) of her loss of purity (as it has been put). So presumably she cannot be reinstated as "maid" in Legolas' court - yet some position has to be found.
Yet if she is no longer (officially - as in rank, position, title) a "maid", then how does that square with Legolas' promise to protect her secret? Although the Elves will surely know, one does not see them as being gossips (at least not to the Men); if any were tempted, they certainly would not want to risk Legolas' wrath.
So how and why the presumption that the Men will inevitably know, and (mis)judge her? Is there some change in title, or manner of hair or dress, that would signal such things to them?
There are some delicious possibilities ahead for the next story, I see, if Dúrfinwen returns to Legolas' court - especially if they all attend Arwen's Winter Ball, which presumably takes place in Minas Tirith. (I hope to see Seimiel in her red gown!) Perhaps some drunken oaf of a Man makes some disparaging comment, and the Green Knight, in defense of Dúrfinwen's honor, challenges him on it.
Oh, this could be good! *rubs hands*

Hello, Calenharn!
First of all, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to not only post a new chapter, but to reply to your review. Real Life came at me with a two-by-four. But I'm back and writing; I'm hoping to have this wrapped up by summer.
You're right; Durfinwen is reluctant, and rightly so. But if you'll recall from Chapter 9, in Legolas' dream he was "looking for her" - though at the time he had no idea for whom he searched, he finally realized it was Durfinwen, not Renna, that Radagast sent him to find. Why the wizard wanted Princess Anoriel found is up to debate!
Don't worry; I know exactly what's going to become of the poor ellith! Thanks for the review, and I hope you enjoy Ch. 34!

*is nothing more than a glorified comma inserter* Your writing is brilliant, m'dear. I enjoyed this chapter. It is good to see Legolas realizing that he's too busy to sail, and giving Durfinwen her place back. I'm sure she still has a very long hard road ahead of her. I would be sad to see her choose mortality though it would be understandable after ALL YOU'VE PUT HER THROUGH!!!! Ahem....
Tamin was delightful. It was such a joy to see him being hobbity. I guess Bandobras' *sob* teaching did sink in after all.
So... when's the wedding? *ducks and runs*

· Chapter 32: The Healer
Finally! ;)
So Kaimelas yet lives... I had *hoped* for that, I had *thought* that he might survive, but the description of his injuries sounds dire. I am hoping for a miracle here and his recovery, but given how he did with that arrow wound.... *shakes head*.
Still, it was an interesting opening to the chapter, hearing things from his perspective.
I am curious as to how Seimiel got there so fast - and, for that matter, the healer lady. I can see Meivel single-mindedly following Legolas once he had picked up the trail, but how is it that those two ladies (not warriors) are there so quickly? It wouldn't make sense for them to go with Meivel - what reason would they have had? It would make even less sense for them to follow after - unless they knew explicitly that they would be needed.
Re Legolas and his heart-to-heart with Thranduil... perhaps I am reading this wrong but Legolas *still* has some misgivings with regard to his father? Surely he recognizes that his father was ensorcelled as he was? So what deep dark thoughts is he hiding there?
Depressing that Legolas wants to leave Middle-Earth, though I suppose that I see his point. It sounds very much like he is going to need to find a purpose and reason for staying (? as well as Durfinwen?).
Although this chapter ended gloomily enough, at least there was a bit of humor re Seimiel and her dress orders. I hope for Kaimelas' sake that she ordered a red one!
Author's reply
Hello, Calenharn!
It's with dismay I re-read some of my earlier posts and realized that I've been at this for two years now. I really should have finished before, my personal life notwithstanding. However, I am happy to report that Chapter 33 is at the beta's being all polished up pretty-like, and that I am beginning my campaign for Chapter 34.
Yes, I couldn't bring myself to kill Kaimelas ... where else would Legolas find a "valambassador" to Erebor? And don't underestimate an Elf-woman's determination; even many leagues won't stop her when she's got her mind made up.
Thanks for sticking with me! I promise yet again, I WILL finish this!
