Antane · 13 July 2008 · Chapter 1: Challenges

“Your older cousin can be most stubborn.” Merry returned the smile, though with teary eyes. “Yes, stubborn enough to make it to the Cracks of Doom. But he doesn’t fare well against Sam. Sam always has been able to get Frodo to do what he ought to do.” :) If there's nothing more stubborn than a Baggins, it's a Gamgee watching over a Baggins. I hadn't thought before of the connection of Merry helping bringing down the very creature who had tried to make Frodo a wraith. I just never connected the two events, but of course it's the same person. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 13 July 2008 · Chapter 0: The Blessing

I am just beginning this and I know it's going to take a long time to get through it all, but I am enjoying it already. Poor Merry to see his beloved elder cousin in such shape, but pride and love too. Nice that Pippin is conscious and himself. :). I look forward to more! Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author's reply

Thank you for coming to read this, Antane :-) It is a hard story to read in many ways, but there is always hope. And Golden and I hope you will enjoy it. Hugs, Pearl

PIppinfan1988 · 1 June 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

*sniff, sniff* You have a lovely way with words! I liked how you described Frodo and Bilbo as they "held each others' eyes". Wonderful! It's been such a delight to read this story! I'll keep my eyes looking for the vignettes. A heartfelt Thank You to you and Golden for sharing your Muse. :-)

Author's reply

You are so very welcome, Pippinfan! And thank you for such for your kind words. I'm glad you'll be watching for the vignettes :-)

Golden · 28 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

Hello all! I also wanted to thank you girls personally for reading Pearl´s and mine story. Soooo happy you liked it! And Garnet thanks also for telling us, what scenes you´d like to see in the vignettes. Wishes and ideas are always welcome to us! After our rest we are more then happy to see, what we can work inside. And a great thanks to Larner, as we just found out you nominated Blessing for the Mefas! How exiting! :) Lets see then if our dear Blessing Pippin has a chance there. *hugs to all* And a veeeery big Thanks to Pearl, because without you, that idea would still be only flying around in my head and would not have become the story, that it is now! *HUGS* Golden

Author's reply

*HUGS* back, Golden :-) Thank you for the plot bunny that started it all :-)

Andrea · 28 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

Well, I liked it how Dreamflower called this last chapter "conclusion to the main story" and I'm quite sure there will be many new vignettes in (the) "The Blessing Universe" ;-) It is very understandable that Pippin ponders about being different and the question if this difference is "good" or "bad". But Merry showed him perfectly that they all have changed during the quest. I also liked it that Merry understood what Pippin "made him see" about the special Tookish gift. Last but not least, I just loved it that it was Pippin who reminded the others of "The Blessing" and gave them strenght to do what had to be done! Thank you very much, Pearl and Golden for this wonderful story! MEWD :) I'm looking forward to reading more...

Author's reply

Thank you for the MEWD, Andrea! I'm so glad you liked this last regular chapter so well. The Merry and Pippin scene went differently than I had thought it would and I'm glad that readers have liked it. You are very welcome!

Agape4Gondor · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

I just rejoiced over the whole chapter... the sense of peace, even amidst sorrow, permeated every word. The sense of hope rang clear. I just can't say enough about this wondrous tale and this final (sobs) chapter... I almost died when I read the last line... but it was a good place to stop. You did extremely well, Pearl Took. Please give my regards to Golden too. This has been a wondrous journey - thank you for sharing it with us!

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, Agape :-) I'm so glad that the feelings I was going for came through in this chapter. I particularly wanted that feeling of hope and strength. It is a bit of a cliff hanger, but I didn't feel too bad knowing that we will be doing the vignettes. You are so welcome and I hope you'll come along for the rest of the story as we write the vignettes :-)

Dreamflower · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

What an excellent conclusion to the main story! I love the way you came back to the original blessing that started it all--what a wonderful way to connect it all. The conversations were low-key, yet emotional--Frodo and Bilbo, Pippin and Merry. And I think you incorporated the source material very well as well! I look forward very much to the vignettes, but I understand you wanting a break!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Dreamflower :-) I'm so glad you found the conversations well done, that was what I was hoping to achieve and I'm so glad to hear I managed to do it. We're glad you'll be watching for the vignettes :-)

pippinsgirl · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

IT'S FINISHED *cries* now I won't have my regular Pippin courage story fix..... OH but it was so good!! it still is!! Oh I want to print it off to read it over and over and over and over and over.....It's just so good!! I wish It was published!! So I could have it in a book to carry with me all the time!!! I have always loved Pippin's blessing since I first heard it. I want to get it printed on a poster and put it in my room. It has somewhat been quiet helpful to me, to get through those icky days when it just isn't so good. OOO how I could read this forever!!

Author's reply

Don't cry o'er much pippinsgirl, don't forget there will be vignettes ;-) We are so glad that you love the story to much. It is a joy to know we've touched your heart and even more to know it has helped you through rough times. If you get the blessing printed on a poster, please do remember that we didn't write it - it is a quote from: "Five Children and It" by Edith Nesbit. Thank you for all you lovely reviews and keep an eye out for the vignettes :-)

Esquire_of_Rohan · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

Excellent! A very good story! I am looking forward to those vignettes.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Esquire_of_Rohan :-) We are looking forward to them to.

Larner · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

A marvelous resolution to a wonderful story. And now all four look to what needs doing next. Alas for what has happened to all, and blest are all for what has happened to all. Heroism too often comes at a great cost. And I eagerly await what might come next.

Author's reply

Yes, true heroism is costly. Thank you so much, Larner. We're glad you enjoyed this story and that you will be looking forward to the vignettes. Blessings to you :-)

Garnet Took · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

I am sad to see it end, but I did know it was coming.:) Thanks for taking us on such an interesting journy. I look forward eagerly for the other stories in this universe. As for this last chapter... I find myself wanting to start singing, "I am the Don Quixote, the man of LaMacha"(I know I spelled that wrong, but couldn't find the right spelling) after the comment about being naked and challenging rocks and trees to duels. I half expected a windmill to get mentioned.:) That was one of cleverest things I've seen in a while. I think you both wrapped this up on just the right note. There is joy and concern, happiness and uncertanty. They all have the blessing of the Wise, and they will prevail. I'm glad Pippin told Merry the truth and that Merry agrees to stand behind his cousin 100%. I'm also going to put in a request. I really would love to see something about Pippin facing down the ruffian in front of the Green Dragon and also something about his long ride through the night to bring reinforcements to the Battle of Bywater. These are two moments in the book that I would love to see developed in this universe. Thanks.:)

Author's reply

Hi Garnet, Yes, you were one of the few. I'm so glad you liked the "naked and challenging rocks and trees to duels" I wasn't thinking about Don Quixote when I wrote it, but did when I was going over it for errors and such. The scenes you mention are ones that have long been in the works, so never fear, they will be amongst the vignettes. Again, thank you so very much Garnet for your encouragement and support :-)

shirebound · 27 May 2008 · Chapter 31: The Road Home

It's wonderful that Pippin realizes that he has two homes now, and that Merry "knows", and Sunshine is there, and ohhhh, the gentleness with which dear Bilbo is treated. *happy sigh* Lovely story, Ladies, ending with a blessing not only for Pippin, and the hobbits, but for all of us. We do the best we can with whatever strengths and gifts -- and weaknesses and failings -- we've been dealt, for as long as we're able, and with such friends as we can gather round us. *applauds*

Author's reply

Thank you so much, shirebound :-) We're happy you like the ending for this part of the tale. Having friends and loved ones does make everything better. Thank you :-)

Larner · 17 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

So proper a homecoming--as Bilbo does represent home, after all. And may Pippin know easing from this. Bless Sunshine for her caring, and the others for their love.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) I was very glad Sunshine showed up in the story. The love they all have for each other is the most powerful thing they have.

Andrea · 17 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

Wonderful chapter, Pearl and Golden! I particularly liked it that Elrond introduced Pippin to Findecano. That was very thoughtful of him. I'm quite sure that Pippin makes progress in accepting his condition and in learning how to use his special gift. But the fit he experienced at the end makes me worry. Is it really possible to accept this is part of you? I hope it is, but it's surely very difficult to do and it takes a long time. Good old Bilbo! He was shocked of course. And I would have liked to hug him myself :) I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author's reply

Thank you Andrea :-) I know a couple of people with epilepsy and they have both accepted it, fits, bad spells and all. Both are more involved with the business of living their lives to the best of their abilities. I'm sure not everyone is like that, but I think Pippin would be. Bilbo will be all right, I think :-) Elrond will take good care of him. We're going to be trying to get more to you soon :-)

Agape4Gondor · 17 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

Oh my! You just broke my heart - though I knew our dear Hobbit was not healed, it had been so long since something like this had happened to him. What went wrong???? *sobs bitterly*

Author's reply

Oh, sorry to break your heart Agape (((Agape))) Nothing wrong, it's just one of those things, sometimes the fits are worse than other times. Be comforted, Pippin is strong hearted and he has people who love him just as he is. Thanks so much for sticking with the story :-) Hugs, Pearl

PIppinfan1988 · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

You did an awesome job with portraying Bilbo as old as he is in Rivendell. Very well done and very much in character! LOL, loved the discussion about hobbit-sized plates vs. plates used by the Big Folk! And it appears that Pippin and Elrond have developed a wonderful rapport through discussing the Sickness. I'm enjoying the stay in Rivendell, but as we know, the lads do have to get back to the Shire. ;-) Very well done!

Author's reply

Thank you m'dear! It hit me as I was describing the table service that any hobbit worthy of the name would like to just use the bigger plates ;-) They'll be on their way soon! So glad you enjoyed it :-)

Garnet Took · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

Oh, a cliffhanger! This was a fantastic chapter. Pippin really is starting to accept what has happened and treat it much more like just another part of who he is. There were so many moments I loved in this chapter. The explanation of what happened to all of them and Pippin's questions about reproduction were two of my favorite.:) I can't wait to see what happens next and how they all deal with it. Oh, I also wanted to say that I think Sunshine trying to get Pippin's attention right before he colapsed was just perfect.

Author's reply

We are always so glad when a chapter hits home with you, Garnet :-) Pippin and the other travellers are truly accepting what has happened and they will all be stronger for it. So glad you liked those bits :-) Very glad the part with Sunshine felt perfect! Thank you :-)

pippinsgirl · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

GAH!!! CLIFFHANGER!!! How could you do that to me?!?!? leave me only wanting MORE and I can't have anymore yet cause there isn't another one up yet!! GAH!!! I'm glad Pippin met someone very much like himself I think that will help him very much so in the end

Author's reply

Thank you pippinsgirl. We do have to make sure you want to come back and read more ;-) It is always a comfort to have someone to talk to who truly knows what you are going through.

Dreamflower · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

I really liked the way you described Bilbo in this--he is older, frailer, but no less worried for his loved ones. And how shocking for him to see Pippin have one of his more serious fits. And I'm glad Elrond and Findecano were able to reassure Pippin about marriage and family.

Author's reply

We're glad you liked it, Dreamflower :-) I tried to keep Bilbo as Tolkien describes him. If anything, I have him staying awake more than the Professor did - LOL

harrowcat · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

'Ask and your shall receive' it is said! I asked and look at the present I got! A great chapter you two. Poor Bilbo. What a horrible realization he is receiving. But I am glad that Pippin gets reassurance about marriage and children.

Author's reply

Thank you so much harrowcat :-) It is a pity Bilbo had to see that, but it is part of Pippin's life now. It would be a concern of any young male, I think, and more so when you're the heir to something important. I wanted to make sure he knew he would be all right :-)

shirebound · 16 May 2008 · Chapter 30: In the House of Elrond Half-Elven

I do think he no longer wishes to dwell on harsh things, or sad things. If you recall, the only things that have seemed to stir him, or keep him awake... That's a marvelous explanation for why Bilbo only seemed to be 'stirred' by a very few things that he heard.

Author's reply

Thank you, shirebound. I took that from Tolkien saying that as the lads told of their journey: "The only part that seemed really to rouse [Bilbo] and hold his attention was the account of the crowning and marriage of Aragorn." And I felt, that the good of it all was what the dear old Hobbit really wanted to know about. I thought he would like those others as well :-)

storyfish · 8 May 2008 · Chapter 29: A Lot to Learn

This was a lovely chapter--I think I was always a little intimidated by Elrond myself (in my imagination??), so I loved the scene between him and Pippin--it was so *comforting*. And it's so good to see Pippin acting his old self, racing Merry. I'm glad I stopped by after not reading fics for a while--and I'll definitely be back. I'm very curious to read what happens when Pippin returns to the Shire! Keep up the good work, Pearl and Golden!

Author's reply

Hi storyfish! I'm glad you stopped by too :-) I'm so glad you found this chapter comforting. I felt there was a lot about Elrond that Peter Jackson got right, most of all that he comes across as intimidating and sometimes hard to read - and I loved that he had him smile at the end when Aragorn and Arwen are at last together. We are so glad you are enjoying this story and thank you for wanting to read what is to come. Thank you so much :-)

Agape4Gondor · 1 May 2008 · Chapter 29: A Lot to Learn

Meant to write this days ago... sorry for the delay for the chapter was wondrous! Right from the beginning, I was saddened by the Hobbit's atypical behavior. So much of what they had once been, gone, lost after the Quest's hard journey. And that Merry is so justifiably worried for Pippin as he ponders what will happen when they reach the Shire. He saw how folks respond to Bilbo and Bilbo never ever had such a problem as our dear Pip does.... *heavy sigh* It was extremely interesting that they were all dreaming (so to speak) of what Pip yelled out... and what was happening in the Shire as they slept. I loved Frodo taking charge in the middle of the night to help them all get rid of their anxieties and talk out the situation so they could sleep. Sadly funny. Pippin's sarcasm about the 'eager' replies was sweet - he kept his cool in the face of wondering what on earth he'd done that kept his cousins so close-mouthed. I had to 'aw' when you termed Pip as Merry's former shadow... and Merry's pride in the change. Though such a hard way to grow up. Shees! Good old Sam - I delighted in the book how Frodo came to see so many different aspects of Sam - and here is another one. Loved his courage and his determination to 'remember' and tell them exactly what Pip said. For Pippin's sake! Pip's response to the food question from Elladan was priceless! I loved the music part - it somehow reminded me of the building of Middle-earth by the Valar - to think Pip is becoming a part of that song in a real way... very nice indeed. And I loved that the music was easily retained. Some small measure of comfort for the lad! The small enclave of Elrond and Celeborn and Galadriel in the dark nights was beautiful and I felt glad that Pip was able to get some comfort from that too! I loved Pip's astonishment when Elrond told him 'it' was a gift. Bless Elrond's heart - and that should help calm Pip's heart a wee bit - and hopefully he shares this with Merry - who definitely needs a little comfort too as he prepares to protect and defend his young cousin! *sobs* Three 'aw's in one story - shees! When Elrond is pleased at Pip's frustration. Very nice understanding! I was ROTFL when Merry 'heard' Pip's tone. Bless his poor heart... he's going to have his hands full taking care of the fun-loving Hobbit. Thankfully, it sounds like the old Pip (with a smattering of good sense) is coming back! Excellent ending with Elrond and Pippin sharing so much. Perhaps Merry will take Pippin back to the Last Homely House a couple times before the Elves leave. I think it would do Pip a world of good... Bless you for taking me on this delightful trip. Can't wait for the next part! Bilbo!!!

Author's reply

My goodness! I'm floored - you've written a chapter here. So kind of you to write so much, Agape. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The Hobbits had a lot to deal with in this story, that's for sure. It has been interesting to see these conditions through their eyes. I think we'll have to delve into Merry a bit more deeply somewhere along the way, he is having a struggle with all of this. And it would be good for them to make a trip or two to Rivendell . . . we'll see what happens. Sam is deep and fun to write :-) Thank you for your blessing and for finding our story delightful :-)

cathleen · 30 April 2008 · Chapter 29: A Lot to Learn

What a revealing chapter. I so enjoyed this! I think Pippin is really starting to think very deeply about everything that's happened, and maybe even come to some sort of uneasy acceptance of at least some of it. I love his daring in this particular scene: “Admit it Merry, it was fun.” Pippin said without looking at his cousin. “I . . . yelled at . . . you to stop.” “I didn’t hear you, though I wouldn’t have stopped even if I had.” “I thought as much.” Merry paused to take another deep breath. “Yes, it was fun.” “And fun, my dear Meriadoc, is important. It lightens the spirit and improves the circulation. Quit staring at me and look at the view.” I hope Pip will always find ways to have fun in spite of all the hardships. To me, that is the true essence of his character. So well done, ladies! Bravo!!!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Cathleen! We're glad you like Pippin's pluck. I feel he would be that way; not the sort to give up or be overwhelmed. We're so glad that you enjoyed the chapter!

Edlyn · 28 April 2008 · Chapter 29: A Lot to Learn

Oh, this was an absolutely WONDERFUL chapter! I can't tell you which line or scene was my favourite because it was all so very good. Beautiful work! Edlyn

Thank you so much, Edlyn! We are glad you enjoyed it :-)
