Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 34: Broken

This is so evocative, Edoraslass, that it left me in tesrs. - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you so much! It left me rather weepy as I was writing it.

Bodkin · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 50: In the Forest of the Night

I haven't got the strength of mind to write fifty reviews - but I love these. The image of Faramir and Eomer sliding along the polished floors of Minas Tirith will live with me ... As will Imrahil's traditional words of welcome to his grandson - and Boromir's concern about the dilatory growth of facial hair ... I liked Theoden's feeling of guilt and that he had failed his son - great perspective and so likely. And Denethor's love for Finduilas and grief at her death. And that's just a few.

Author's reply

Heh, I'm kind of surprised I had the strength of mind to write all of these, and so many of them actual drabbles, too! Those are the very hardest for me. I'm glad you enjoyed them; I try to write as many characters as I can, but as is abundantly clear, my brain always wanders back to Rohan. Thank you for taking the time to read them! Next time I won't upload so much at once!

grumpy · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 36: Different Kinds of Patience

Another great one. Aragorn can make toothpicks and Boramir ponies. A different kind of patience indeed.

Author's reply

And heaven knows Boromir's patience was likely something not seen very often. :) Thanks!

Grumpy · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 35: Guest of Honour.

Well that was darned sweet of Eomer to go to the tea party, and very brave of him too. Loved this one.

Author's reply

I can just see him, all mushed up in a chair six sizes too small for his long legs. :) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 21: Provisions

Aha! Finally read them all--yesterday working backwards, and today working forwards. Glad I did, also. A wonderful set, and well, well worth the reading. Thank you for a few hours wonderful entertainment and thoughtfulness.

Author's reply

And thank you so much for taking the time to read - and review!- every one of them! I certainly wasn't expecting that! :)

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 20: More Important Things

And that day will come, and all will be well in the end because Mr. Bilbo did manage to fill the lad's head with a taste for adventure to balance out the strong streak of perseverence and duty instilled by his father.

Author's reply

Though I'm sure the Gaffer complained every day about Sam running off on crazy adventures. :) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 19: End of the Second Line

Oh, such a wonderful final prayer for our Theoden son of Thengel.

Author's reply

Thank you! That one just came so quickly - I'm glad it seems appropriate.

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 18: Tradition

Oh, I can so imagine JUST this conversation. Run indeed! Lovely, realistic moment there. (My brother was playing with our dad's revolver when it happened in OUR house.)

Author's reply

Oh my, that would have been a scary moment for your parents! And you just know Boromir and Faramir weren't supposed to be anywhere near that Horn. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 17: Choosing a Road

Yes, under such circumstances I'd imagine the Mines of Moria would indeed appear appealing--until they get into them, of course. Then we will see, won't we, Preciousssss?

Author's reply

It's just what I think whenever I watch that scene: "Freezing mountaintop, or snowless cave?" I'd pick the cave every single time, if I didn't know what lived there. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 16: Respite

And the Palantir draws him from his grief? Interesting.

Author's reply

I think it's more that the Palantir overwhelms it, and blinds him to it, really - as it blinds him to so many things. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 15: Duty First

I'd love to see the encounter between the two of them myself.

Author's reply

One day, one day. :) I just haven't gotten there yet. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 14: Undercurrents

The two do see and appreciate the love between their parents, and I'm glad they both will have this memory in the years to come. And it's nice to think of Denethor with a moment of such contentment and joy.

Author's reply

I imagine they didn't often get to see their parents like this, and I'm sure it made quite the impression. :) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 13: Becalmed

At least he has a guiding star, one he can count on to support his duties and his joys. Lovely moment.

Author's reply

Thank you! I love Imrahil in his smitten-husband moments.

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 12: Lesson

A beautiful moment of preparation for the EE movie moment. And I can almost see it in my mind.

Author's reply

If not for that moment, I'd never have considered this scene. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 11: Distant Harmony

Yes, that wonderful moment when the cock crowed and the horns sounded and voices were lifted afar in the call to battle, the songs of war. Just as stirring here as in the book and the films.

Author's reply

It's one of my very favourite moments in the book, and I love to think of how those still in Minas Tirith would have reacted. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 10: Home

Ah, but in the end he shall, and she will find a new home far to the east and south. But this is the promise of sibling love.

Author's reply

Poor little things, having their lives all spun about like that. But it will soon be their home. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 9: The Earth Knows No Difference

Alas, the fall of faithful Theodred, who knows well his beloved cousin will take up the guardianship of the Mark.

Author's reply

At least he can be certain of that. *sniff* Thank you! Oh, p.s. - I'm really sorry if you got 50 alerts in your e-mail yesterday. I didn't realize it would send you one for each chapter; I though it would just do one, for one new story.

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 8: Approaching Edoras

Trust John Rhys-Davies to bring us back, crashing, to earth. Heh!

Author's reply

Heeeee - it does seem like something a dwarf would point out! Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 7: Superstitious

Middle Earth's own Flying Dutchman, then? And such a memory to hold! Wonderfully eerie.

Author's reply

Thank you! They have to have some creepy myths besides Beruthiel.

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 6: Memory

Good memories, but ones that leave him wishing I'm certain for more.

Author's reply

I don't know why I've (and fanon has, too) made the assumption that Imrahil's wife isn't still alive - I don't think she's actually ever mentioned one way or the other. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 5: Aftermath

Tornadoes can be so destructive. And it would indeed have taken them mostly by surprise. Have lived through a few myself.

Author's reply

Yep, every spring they come tearing through this state. They don't call it "Tornado Alley" for nothin'. :) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 4: Glimmers of Memory

Very good memories to hold. And I imagine she was indeed his sunshine.

Author's reply

A shame she has so little to remember. Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 3: Extended Family

I, too, rejoice that they all three knew the added sibling(s), and Theoden knew the added joy of children to increase his sense of family. Joy is begun, for the time it lasts.

Author's reply

Yes, I do just love this family dynamic (even if my opinion is probably more fanon than canon. :) ) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 2: Twice-blessed

She did, after all, bear two marvelous sons.

Author's reply

Lovely boys, both of them. :) Thanks!

Larner · 29 December 2006 · Chapter 1: For the Sake of Us Both

Definitely a question to ponder, although WE know he will soon enough have two more children within the household.

Author's reply

I do kind of wonder why he didn't marry again, though. It's not as if he was too old... Thanks!
