Edlyn · 7 May 2007 · Chapter 35: Guest of Honour.

I have the biggest smile on my face after reading this! Now I think I know why Eomer is so fearless facing orcs; he had to survive something so much worse (at least to a big brother's mind)! Edlyn

Author's reply

Hopefully she didn't make him wear any silly hats, or have conversations with the dolls. :) Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 33: Following Orders

I do think that Faramir might have eventually forgiven the servants; but I can see him feeling anger when he first learns how they prepared to burn him alive at Denethor's bidding, and that anger might have lasted awhile.

Author's reply

I think he would have, too - but I just couldn't see him brushing it off right away as no big deal. He's got every reason there is to be angry. Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 31: Never Forgotten

Very perceptive portrait of Eowyn in the form of poetry. I always felt that she could let the warrior within her sleep, but not perish; remain hidden in case of need.

Author's reply

I agree; I never felt it was out-of-character for Eowyn to embrace peace and be content with her new life. Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 29: Finding a Friend

Little Eomer and puppies - how adorable! I will note, as a dog lover, that the most shy puppy in a litter (particularly a litter where the others are extroverted, as these are) is not always the best choice for a child's pet. But the drabble is charming.

Author's reply

I do usually pick the animal which seems to be keeping to itself the most, because I know that the really friendly ones will have no trouble finding an owner. :) Course, I'm usually after cats, too.. Thank you!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 28: Blessed

I would think that if anyone could gentle a pregnant wife's frazzled nerves and ease her discomfort, it would be Faramir - nice job.

Author's reply

He would be the perfect person to have around when you were that miserable and aching, wouldn't he? :) Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 27: Barren

I can find no such well inside me - only a vast desert in which grief echoes. - Beautiful and sad, and to my mind true. I can see Denethor turning more inward, drying up, growing ever more bitter; not that he necessarily started out as Mr. Rogers, but I would think that Finduilas brought out the best in him.

Author's reply

Ok, the image of Denethor as Mr. Rogers is the weirdest thing I've thought of in a very long time. :) But yes, he strikes me very much as the kind of person who would bottle everything up and/or deny his feelings, which is never a good thing. Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 23: Sister's Grief

Fascinating POV here! Actually, I had a not totally dissimilar idea for a ficlet, awhile ago, so if I ever get it written, I hope you won't think I stole the idea from you. You've got some really unusual pieces here among the usual good bits.

Author's reply

Heh, no, I wouldn't think that. I'm all for out-of-the-ordinary POVs! Thank you! I do like to occasionally go with unusual. :)

Raksha The Demon · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 21: Provisions

Ooh; scary-good! They really sounded like giant spiders, eerily smart and communicative, with just the right voice. Poor Bombur; they already had him marked as the tastiest morsel of the batch! Excellent!

Author's reply

I often feel sorry for Bombur, and wonder why on earth he ended up in Thorin's party. He doesn't seem like the type that would enjoy such a journey! Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 20: More Important Things

Heh. Good thing that the Gaffer was wrong. Excellent take on the elder Gamgee's speech pattern.

Author's reply

It's strangely easy to get into his head; apparently I have an affinity for somewhat persnickety old Hobbits? :) Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 18: Tradition

Cute and funny. Good for Boromir, thinking of having a horn made for Faramir so one day they could have a matching set.

Author's reply

Well, he doesn't want Faramir left out, but he sure doesn't want to give up his Horn. :) Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 15: Duty First

Nanny has a boyfriend! Nanny has a boyfriend! Well, a wannabe boyfriend. Hope you write more about Durvain, and if he ever gets that dance.

Author's reply

Yep, I promise he'll get more time. Eventually. :) Thanks!

Raksha The Demon · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 9: The Earth Knows No Difference

A searing capsule of one of the greatest tragedies of the Ring War. Vivid and tragic.

Author's reply

Thank you! This is one of my very favourite drabbles.

Raksha The Demon · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 4: Glimmers of Memory

A lovely remembrance for Eowyn. There aren't enough stories out there that explore the relationship, however brief, between Eowyn and Eomund, but it had to be as influential as that of Faramir and Finduilas, and possibly more. Excellent use of language in Eomund's nickname for his little girl.

Author's reply

Yes, I really should write more Rohan bitties, but two other little ones seem to claim my time. :) Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 50: In the Forest of the Night

Well, Edoraslass, I was enjoying these so much that I ran out of chapters... LOL! I only intended to leave one review, at the end, but so many of these touched me or tickled me in some way, that I was compelled to comment. I really enjoy how your drabbles and ficlets speak with so many voices, so many POVs, including both usual and unusual ones. And I also like how you experiment with many different word forms... I don't know anything about the forms themselves (well, except drabbles ;-D), but I appreciate the different choices... each a different length, a different rhythm, a different feeling. And you have a feel for the language, too. Very nice work! - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you for leaving so many reviews! I do try to make an effort to get as many different characters as I can involved, but as you can see, the Elves are sadly neglected. Honestly, I rarely consciously pick a form; I start writing, and there it is. It's a very strange feeling. :) Thanks again!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 50: In the Forest of the Night

Old Man Willow! Another cool POV! I like! - Barbara

Author's reply

Old Man Willow's weirdly fascinating to me - there doesn't seem to be anything else like him in M-e. Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 49: Unwanted Journey (anonymous)

*Shiver* I so feel for this man.... - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you! This is definitely one of those drabbles that just came from nowhere.

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 48: Threshold

*Shudder* Poor Éowyn! Poor Éomer, to know what is happening and feel unable to put a stop to it! - Barbara

Author's reply

I really do have problems understanding why something..er...underhanded couldn't have been done about Grima. But then, I'm not often known for my patience, either. :) Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 45: Spoils of War

Oh, so sad! The Rohirrim faced so many vicious attacks on their settlements. But what a marvelous ending! - Barbara

Author's reply

And there must have been other times when the ending was not so pleasant, so this would have be particularly relieving. Thank you!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 47: First Time

Oh! another delightful Imrahil vignette! And what a sly bit of misdirection... LOL! We certainly know what captures Imrahil's heart.... - Barbara

Author's reply

And what will he do when he has to split his attention between the sea and his wife? :) Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 44: Traditions (Imrahil)

Awwwwwwwwww! I so love your Imrahil! - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm a sucker for a handsome sailor. :)

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 43: Sliding

(I *almost* expected Aragorn to join them next, with Eldarion!) ;-D - Barbara

Author's reply

I'm sure once he hears about it, they won't be able to keep him away. Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 43: Sliding

Oh! I absolutely *love* this! And literally laughed out loud! “Perhaps I should restate the question,” Éomer said, narrowing his eyes at her. “Have I ever fallen while doing this when you weren't trying to make me fall?” Bwahahahahahaha! - Barbara

Author's reply

I seem to have wandered away from the Eomer and Eowyn dynamic, and I don't know why. They're such fun to play off each other! Thanks!

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 42: Echo

LOL! I like this! A nice background to one of the moments that the movie portrayed so well.... - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you! I love those times when you remember something totally inappropriate to the situation you're in.

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 41: The Spring of 1420

This is beautiful, Edoraslass! And Sam is so deserving of such rewards. And the language is so evocative.... from the sterile oblivion of the Black Lands (*shudder*) to a small shy garden. Very well done! - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes, Sam deserves every bit of happiness he gets, and more.

Elena Tiriel · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 40: Another Path (haiku)

Poor Boromir! so sad.... - Barbara

Author's reply

Yes, this one left me melancholy as well. *sniff* Thank you!
