Saw this recced on Lotrips finders and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed reading it. THe innkeepers voice sounds very real, as does that of Ellesar. Thank you!

grumpy · 11 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

Great story, Love the part about 'Elessar still being new to the king business'. I am with the innkeeper thought's that Carandol needs a reminder that this was no ordinary man to go triflin' with. Let Elessar out!

Author's reply

Thanks, grumpy. LOL--yes, Elessar unleashed! Carandol had better be careful. ;-) Allee

RS · 3 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

Woah, what the heck did Carandol do now? Wonderful description of "the war raging inside Elessar", "grey eyes clouded"--man and sovereign fighting. Kind of scary. I agree with Master InnKeeper "the return of the king right now wouldn't be so bad. "After all, my Queen and I make an unlikely pair. Why not these two?” He shrugged, picked up his wine goblet, and went off to settle himself by the fire.---This paragragh gave me a smile..so easy going... until Carandol pushed his button! This has got to be one of my favorites from the "Tales of the Innkeeper"! More, More, More!

Author's reply

Hi RS, I'm glad you enjoyed this one. :-) I feel for Aragorn, with that war raging inside him. The people certainly need the king, but they need the man, too. Poor Aragorn--I don't know how he did it! Allee

Dreamflower · 3 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

A sharp one, that innkeeper! But perhaps he doesn't realize that what makes Elessar such a *good* King is that he doesn't try too hard to suppress Aragorn the man--remembering that he's only human himself helps him to be more just and merciful than one who always thought himself above others--like the *old* Steward...

Author's reply

Thanks for the comments, Dreamflower. I agree: Elessar the King *needs* Elessar the man. What a hard balance to achieve! Allee

Halrohir · 2 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

Well Met, Allee! I just spent an enjoyable evening, reading each one of the vignettes about our good Innkeeper and his encounters with Lord Elfstone. So, I shall elave my thoughts for all, in one review. Each tale stands alone on its own merits, and each one is a part of the ongoing tale of the King's wintering in this humble, pleasant place. As is with many things, the humble becomes noble, with understanding. I do enjoy the sidestory of Carandol and Silima, and the growth of the young lad in the King's company. Also, the reactions the Kin displays with various and sundry encounters. You have plainly done a good deal of work and thought to making this! I enjoyed your works, and eagerly look forward to hearing them continue! I Am, HALROHIR

Author's reply

Well Met, Halrohir! I'm so glad that you've enjoyed your time with Master Innkeeper. I've enjoyed seeing Elessar through his eyes. This story began from a single vignette, which I never intended to develop any further. When I later included the characters Silima and Carandol, it was something of a surprise to me . . . and now here I am with a subplot built around those two. Of course, I'm a bit obsessed with original characters. *g* Thanks so much for leaving your comments! Allee

Linda Hoyland · 2 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

This was very perceptive.Your Innkeeper notices a lot.I love this series, every chapter is sheer delight.

Author's reply

Hi Linda, Ah, that perceptive Innkeeper! If only I were more like him. LOL. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :_) Allee

harrowcat · 2 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

A war that I hope neither part wins entirely for the King needs the Man but your Innkeeper is right to say that the Kingdom needs a King that may appear to be more than the Common Man

Author's reply

Ah, yes. How true--if he is to lead with wisdom and compassion, the King most definitely needs the man. What a challenge to preserve the man while maintaining the comportment of a sovereign. Quite a balancing act! Thanks for the comments, harrowcat. :-) Allee

Larner · 1 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

Now, that is a wonderful perspective! I find I rather like the image of Aragorn trying to decide which he was today--sovereign lord or simple man.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. It has to be a tough decision--man or king? Makes me appreciate just how simple my life is! LOL Allee

daw the minstrel · 1 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

This is a nice insight, Allee. What a change for Aragorn. Of course, he's been shifting identities all his life. I don't know whether that's because he's a man of great depth or great conflict.

Author's reply

Hi daw, Ah--great question: does Aragorn owe his identity shifts to great depth or great conflict? Probably both, I think. Certainly, the great conflict *enhanced* the great depth. Guess that's why I love him! Thanks for the comments, daw. :-) Allee

shirebound · 1 December 2007 · Chapter 10: A Man All the Same

They were fightin’ in there, I tell you, man and sovereign, like he was decidin’ whose turn it was. How fascinating! I'm always glad to see an update to these wonderful tales.

Author's reply

Hi Shirebound, Well, I for one can't help but find Aragorn's dual nature--man and king--fascinating! Glad you do, too. Thanks so much much for letting me know you enjoyed it. ;-) Allee

grumpy · 29 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

Well I am glad to know that other peaple's handiwork looks bad on the backside, I thought I was just a messy person. Glad that the innkeeper made Elessar laugh.

Author's reply

LOL--I think that everyone's handiwork is a mess on the backside. At least, I hope so because mine is a disaster! Thanks for the comments! Allee

harrowcat · 28 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

A right wise inn-keeper you have there Allee!

Author's reply

Thanks, harrowcat. I like to think of the Innkeeper as my wise alter-ego. Whenever I need a reality check, he seems to know what I need to hear! Allee

RS · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

Oh Allee... this is Beautiful! Such a simple man that innkeeper, but boy, he sure knows what to say.....and he should be proud of himself!! Thank you for mentioning Arwen..and for her to be mentioned in such a way...this was just lovely. "Elessar broke into one of his crooked grins and closed his eyes for just a moment ere sayin’, “Yes, Master Innkeeper. Once again, you are correct. I suppose it is all part of the song.” ------ Love It! RS

Author's reply

Hi RS, I'm so glad you liked it. I included Arwen per your request. ;-) She lent herself well to this chapter, so thank you for the suggestion! Allee

Linda Hoyland · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

This was just beautiful and very thought provoking.I often wonder if our lives are like tapestries from the back but making sense when viewed from the other side. I love your Aragorn and the innkeeper.

Author's reply

Linda, Thanks so much. I certainly do believe that our lives are like tapestries viewed from the back, but I needed the reminder. I guess that's why I wrote this chapter as I did. Allee

shirebound · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

“Especially when she paid such a dear price to buy our short time together.” I didn’t ask what he meant. I’m nosy, but I at least have the good sense to realize when a man speaks for no ears but his own. What a perceptive man. I'm really enjoying the glimpses you give us of the Innkeeper and his King.

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound. The innkeeper certainly is perceptive. That's one of the things I love about writing him. Allison

Larner · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

Yes, this innkeeper is very perceptive indeed! I know how odd the backsides of some of my crochet projects get when I'm changing colors; and this idea of the tangles on the backside of Arwen's tapestries hits home. Indeed, part of the song, one that adds to the total meaning.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. I once made my mother a cross-stitch of a lighthouse; it was my first one, and when I started seeing all that mess accumulating on the back, I thought it was going to turn out a mess! Those tangles and knots can be deceiving. Allison

Dreamflower · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

How wonderful to find a new chapter of this lovely tale! I do love your wise Innkeeper--he and the King have much more in common than they realize, with their devotion to their faithful wives, and their sense of what is right and due. I'm glad *I* didn't have to listen to that sour note, though!

Author's reply

Thanks so much, Dreamflower! You're right; the Innkeeper and the King have quite a lot in common, in spite of their obvious differences. I'm with you--I wouldn't want to hear that sour note, either, even if it *does* add to the song's effect! Allee

Neilia · 27 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Part of the Song

Well, Allee; I have just read Tales of the Innkeeper through 'Part of the Song' and I find it quite wonderful. I am looking forward to more. Love and hugs, Neilia

Author's reply

Thanks so much, Neilia! I'm glad you've enjoyed the Innkeeper. He's always fun to write. Take care, Allee

grumpy · 7 August 2007 · Chapter 8: Wide-Open Spaces

Cold, and then there is cold. Give me a warm day anyday. I like how Carabdol has found himself something to take care of, and to worry over. And that he has Aragorn to ask questions of.

Author's reply

I confess: I live in Florida, where I'm currently complaining--as I do every summer--about how unbearably hot it is, so I know little about how bitterly cold real winters can be; cold to me is in the 50s farenheit. I am a self-proclaimed weather wimp. I do know this, however: King Elessar (et al) are in the midst of some really bitter weather, even by non-Floridian standards! And yes, it does help that Carandol has found something to take care of (or rather, it helps that Aragorn *assigned* Carandol something to care for. Wise man, that Elessar!). Thanks for reading and taking the time to share your thoughts! It's always much appreciated. Allee

Linda Hoyland · 31 July 2007 · Chapter 8: Wide-Open Spaces

This was delightful, a truly heartwarming treat. I love your Aragorn and his care and concern for all his subjects. Lovely touches of humour too.

Author's reply

Thanks, Linda. I love writing Aragorn through the eyes of the innkeeper, and I'm glad you enjoyed reading it! Allee

Dreamflower · 29 July 2007 · Chapter 8: Wide-Open Spaces

How delightful to see another entry in this well-crafted series! You manage to let us know so very much of the Innkeeper, his Anira, and Carandol from their reactions to the King. I liked Elessar's remeniscencing of Caradhras--I have a feeling that though he was remembering the cruel cold, he was also remembering the Fellowship. And I liked his response to Carandol's restlessness--it sounds like that lad might have just a touch of ADD! And this line: And I can’t say that I’m too surprised; strange as it sounds, Elessar is a bit like sunlight, fresh air, and wide-open spaces. That was lovely!

Author's reply

Thank you, Dreamflower. So glad you're enjoying this series. This chapter is certainly long over-due, but future Innkeeper vignettes shouldn't be so long in coming. It hadn't occurred to me that Carandol might have a touch of ADD, but it would certainly explain quite a bit, wouldn't it? Yes, I think that as Elessar thought of Caradhras, he also thought of the Fellowship. One thing I love about writing the Innkeeper series is that I get to include little snippets of Elessar's memories here and there. Again, thank you for your comments!

shirebound · 29 July 2007 · Chapter 8: Wide-Open Spaces

He smiled a wistful sort of smile then, one I’d not seen before, and have to tell you, I think I like that smile on him best of all. ’Reckon I’d become somethin’ of an expert on the King and his many smiles. Not many a man can say that! Elessar is a bit like sunlight, fresh air, and wide-open spaces. Come to think of it, with the King under our roof, maybe it wasn’t so harsh a winter after all. These are very enjoyable -- and unique -- glimpses of our beloved king. :)

Author's reply

Thanks so much. Glad you're enjoying the Innkeeper series. Master Innkeeper certainly has had the rare opportunity to see some unique glimpses of the King, and that's what makes these vignettes so enjoyable to write.

Larner · 29 July 2007 · Chapter 8: Wide-Open Spaces

What a wonderful moment, and wonderful memories, to know that joyous presence; and to see Aragorn remembering Caradhras. Yes, cruel indeed that mountain was.

Author's reply

Glad you liked it. I didn't intend to throw the Caradhras bit in when I started this chapter, but it showed up, nevertheless. I like to think that Aragorn did indeed have a joyous presence. Hopefully, it's beginning to rub off on Carandol.

Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 4: Stars Among Us

I like the idea of stars walking around on earth with us. :) By the way, I've read all the chapters and they're lovely. Maybe you could write something Faramir related? Hopefully? I'm hopelessly in love with him-- not in that way, but he's certainly my favorite character. I do enjoy the way you portray Aragorn here, though. Continue! :D

Author's reply

Hmmmm . . . well, I certainly hadn't planned on writing Faramir into one of these vignettes, but then, I never expected to mention Gimli in them either, but suddenly, there he was! For that matter, I never expected to write more that the first vignette (not to mention the ongoing story of Carandol, etc). So, who knows? I'm glad you're enjoying them, and I'm sure there will be more, although I don't know when (real life is a little intense at the moment!). Thanks again for your comments. Allee

Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 2: Lie Down Late

Again, very insightful. I also like the way you write the inkeeper; I can almost imagine him saying it out loud.

Author's reply

I can hear the innkeeper so well when I'm writing him that it becomes very easy to write him. He keeps me quite entertained! Allee
