Hi, Now that I've found your stuff I'm reading it all. I really like this story, and the interchanges between Gimli & Legolas ring really true to form. However, comma, there's this cliffhanger thing... PLEASE finish this up - I want the villagers' reactions when Thranduil comes down on them & the bad guy like a ton of bricks. Be nice to get Celeborn in on it too. Thanks for writing and please hurry and write more real soon!

Hi, Rick. Thanks for the compliments! I do intend to finish it eventually. I have a rabid LOTR/Avengers plot critter firmly attached to my ankle currently that I'm writing for other archives as it's not appropriate for this one. I'll come back to this one as soon as I'm able. sheraiah

Real life intruded, unfortunately. However, I just changed jobs and have been writing a bit. I hit a wall on this story and a couple of others and am waiting for my muses to speak to me. I am currently working on a couple of things, one for a fic exchange and one for another archive, neither of which are appropriate for posting here. Bear with me, please. I have not abandoned any of my stories, I'm merely taking a hiatus.

Sheraiah, I read Babe in the Woods. It was wonderful. Such an enticing mix of movie and book. I will be reading more of your works. You have a wonderful talent. Good job! I love the insults and jokes of Legolas and Gimli.

Bodkin · 12 May 2007 · Chapter 6: 6

“And your son’s kindness to folks he doesn’t even know makes me think I can trust you, too.” Thranduil might be being quite scary - but Abrum's got good instincts. And family makes a great bridge between all sorts of oddly assembled people.

Agape4Gondor · 9 May 2007 · Chapter 6: 6

Very nice chapter. I am glad the men were able to swallow their fear and speak with Thranduil - and that he took the babe, for a moment, to hold and share! Very glad Legolas and Gimli are going to survive! VERY!!!

Aelfwine · 9 May 2007 · Chapter 6: 6

I am loving this story . It has all my favorite things! Adventure , love, swashbuckling, humor, and a touch of angry elf warrior. I can hardly wait for an update!

Larner · 8 May 2007 · Chapter 6: 6

I'd merely not thought of lower Mirkwood now being East Lorien for some reason. I'm afraid I always paid more attention to the division of Men's lands than of the way Mirkwood was reconstituted after Dol Guldur was cast down. So glad Legolas is recovering so well and that Gimli wasn't hurt too terribly seriously.

The A/N was directed towards a few reviewers on another archive. :-) Like I said, I forget sometimes that I have a few movie-folk as reviewers. But, really, Tolkien's works are so vast and so detailed, and he contradicted himself fairly frequently as well, that the vast majority of aren't able to keep up with all of it. The only reason I usually manage to do a passable job at it is that I check before I write. Usually. I'm still embarassed that I forgot about Beorn and the Woodmen. Legolas usually bounces back pretty well, but he's not totally healed yet. The situation was an opportunity to write Haldir again, though, and I enjoy him almost as much as I enjoy writing Thranduil. But, I have to say that writing Gimli is the most fun right now. I just love that curmudgeon of a dwarf! By the way, I'm reading 'Second Mum'. Great story!!

Elflingimp · 8 May 2007 · Chapter 6: 6

Aw! The elven king holding the baby, that melted my heart!

elliska · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 5

Finally finding some time for fanfic reading and I ran across this. It is great. You do the banter between Gimli and Legolas very well. I enjoyed Legolas's cluelessness when it comes to infants and Gimli's ease with her. I loved Legolas's contribution with the doe. The fight was very well done. But my favorite part was Thranduil. You always capture him very well and this is no exception. I am greatly looking forward to more!

Bodkin · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 5

That is one very impressive appearance by the Woodland King! And you'd better not hurt Legolas's favourite dwarf - he clearly doesn't respond very well to harm being done to him. Good thing Haldir and his brothers turned up when they did - although I daresay a battle-frenzied Legolas might have managed to polish off the remaining attackers on his own, he might then have bled to death before he returned to himself. At least the travellers should be safe now.

galimeril · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5

The suspense is killing me! You truly do have a way with words!

Anonymous · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5

I loved the adorable-ness in the early chapters, and now I love the suspense! My one complaint? The usual- no fair leaving us at a cliffhanger! Thank you for sharing your writing with us.

Elflingimp · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5

Ah! How could you stop it there?!(The torture of waiting),the part with Haldir and Legolas was so good, althou I feel sorry for Gimli he's gonna have a terrible headache!

Larner · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5

Oh, so they have found Thranduil! Wonderful! Now, what were Haldir and his brothers doing in Mirkwood? And is it the head wound or a poison on the blades used against him that led Legolas to his madness of vision?

Author's reply

It's the border of East Lorien and the Greenwood, so Celeborn's authority and Thranduil's kind of overlap there. :-) It's neither the head wound nor poison, it's the fact that he believes that Gimli has been killed. Thanks!! Author Reply: Also, Thranduil's actually BS-ing a bit since he's technically out of his territory.

Daynawayna · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5

I'm so excited that you posted this so quickly! I was just hoping to get another chapter within the next day or two! :) Remind me to never never ever make Legolas think Gimli's dead... hoooooleee cow! Pissed off elf is a scary sight to behold! And it's Haldir to the rescue! But why the Lorien Marchwarden in Mirkwood? Not that I object, mind you, but it just seemed odd to me. Unless I missed something in an earlier chapter. And the The King Himself comes to the humans... and leave it to Raife and Abrum to incur his "wrath" as it were! Yikes! Now all I need to see (after Leggy and Gimli are healed up) is King Thrandruil holding the baby and I'll be good to go for weeks! LOL

Author's reply

They are actually on the border between East Lorien and the Greenwood, so Celeborn's and Thranduil's authority sort of overlap there. Personally, I think Thranduil's going to be a whole lot more pissed off at Restor. ;-)

Agape4Gondor · 2 May 2007 · Chapter 5

Awesome chapter! You had me riveted to my seat, my mouth hung open, my breath caught! Wow.... And Thranduil - great!!!! Can't wait for more!

Daynawayna · 2 May 2007 · Chapter 4: ch 4

I love this story! Not only do I get Gimli and Leggy, but I get A BABY TOO! ::beams happily:: Not only that, I get LEGGY and A BABY! LOL! I love how natural Gimli is with the child; it makes him so much more endearing and so very real. The tenderness he has with her is so completely real and I really enjoy that. And God Help the thugs who meet G and L in the forrest! :O More more more! :)

Bodkin · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 4: ch 4

Strange the elf and the dwarf might be - but they're good people to have around in a fight. If anyone can keep the child and her foster family safe, it will be the two of them. Although a patrol of elven warriors at this point wouldn't come amiss. I wonder what the men will think of being in the midst of creatures from legend. Especially if they arrive in the company of the Woodland King.

SilentEagle · 25 April 2007 · Chapter 4: ch 4

You know, I thought just a week ago that it was a shame that this story hadn't been updated, and I thought that it had been abandoned, but no today I found a lovely new chapter awaiting me. I loved the banter between Legolas and Gimli, you wrote it perfectly, and I also loved 'Uncle Gimli's' cute soft moment with the baby, that was beautiful.
