Ok, I know I already reviewed at ff.net, but it won't let me review again and I thought of a couple of other comments I wanted to make. First of all, wouldn't it be easier now the two are awake to put them in the same room, so the caregivers don't have to go between rooms, and the two invalids can help entertain each other? I know that it would have to be Estel's room, since I don't think Frodo's is big enough for Estel, but they could move him (and Sam and Scamp) to that room, couldn't they? That would make lots of lovely Ranger / young Hobbit interaction possible. Secondly... mmmmm.... Estel and Frodo baths..... mmmmm... *grins wickedly.* I'll wash hair!

Author's reply

You sweetie! And they *will* be in the same room for a bit, you clever girl! That's just about all I *had* decided about chapter 9 so far. Baths... mmmmm... :D

Elanor Silmariën · 19 July 2006 · Chapter 8: Reassurances

Oh, this was great! I love that Aragorn reassured Frodo by reminding him of his words all that time ago. Frodo is most definatly unforgettable. Are the puppies coming soon? God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Thanks, Ellie. There are definitely puppies coming, as soon as they decide it's time! :D

Lindelea · 19 July 2006 · Chapter 8: Reassurances

Awwww. (Frodo's fear of being forgotten. I guess he never will be forgotten, will he? Though what he had to go through, to attain that status, doesn't bear thinking about.) Good Halbarad. I'm with him. No matter how late I go to bed, I'm awake by dawn or slightly before. It's training me to go to bed earlier than the owls. (Here's hoping his meeting with the dwarves goes well.) Lovely chapter. Hope Aragorn gets his memory back soon (this would be very AU if he never got it back!). Still waiting for puppies (neighbours just got a nine-week-old furball, so cute!) Wonderful depiction of the Shirefolks' gratitude. Don't you just love hobbits?

Author's reply

I'm like Halbarad, too! So many years of being at the office early has me waking at the crack of dawn no matter how late I've been up, or what day it is. Goodness yes, what an AU a permanently-amnesiac Aragorn would be! He would have to go back to Rivendell for "Elendil's Heir Training" all over again. Hobbits! And there will eventually be puppies, I promise. We need to be as patient as Scamp. Thank you, Lin! :D

Amy · 19 July 2006 · Chapter 8: Reassurances

Hooray, they're both awake and coherent! I am thrilled by this beyond all reason. Possibly I need to get out more. *stands ready to carry water for their baths* "Now, where are those fluffy towels?" chew toy for Scamp! *excited by this, too* It's the heat, that must be it.

Author's reply

Hooray! And of *course* you can stand by with water and towels. How thoughtful of you! :D

grumpy · 16 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Ah ha, I think Halbarad is finding out there is more to Bilbo then he thought, "burgler" Good idea for Halbarad to get a puppy for his girlfriend, a very good present.

Author's reply

Yes, these "simple hobbits of the Shire" are much more than they seem, aren't they? :D

Lily Baggins · 14 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Oh, I love the thought of Halbarad wanting a Scamp puppy!!! Too darling. And of course, I must say I do enjoy the very thought of Bilbo being saddled with TWO difficult patients . . . this is going to be good. Or at least, a very impatient hobbit lad and a rather groggy or hurting ranger . . . whatever it is, I'm guaranteed to love it. I apologize for the lateness of this review . . . read it at my brother's and didn't review it then, and then remembered I hadn't! Slap me next time you see me, please. :)

Author's reply

Goodness, Lily, a review is never late. It arrives exactly when it means to! I'm so happy you're continuing to enjoy this. Sooooo happy. :D

girlofring · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

i just love reading your chapters. each time you post, I cannot help but think what will take place next. I believe this is the calme chapter before the storm? Bilbo will have his hands full if both Frodo and Aragorn become hard to deal with and Scamp has her pups at the same time!

Author's reply

I think Bilbo does deserve a good night's sleep after all this, and you're right... who knows what he'll have to deal with next! But with all those loving Gamgees about, I suspect his job will be a lot easier. :D

Elemmírë · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Serindë might become the proud owner of a Scamp puppy??!!!! *grins and claps hands in delight* >>He was startled to realize that it was evening already; lamps had been lit throughout the smial, and small but cheery hearthfires were blazing in several rooms.<< Bag End just sounds so very warm and cozy. Do you think Bilbo would mind one more house guest? I really like how you compared the Gaffer and Serindë ... now there would be an interesting meeting of minds. LOL! >>“I know,” Bilbo said. “However, I suspect that the Gamgees will not permit me to be alone very much! They are wonderful neighbors, and very good friends.”<< They are indeed. Bilbo and Frodo are so very fortunate to have such a loving and dedicated family of hobbits living nearby ... and the Gamgees are just as lucky to have them too. >>“Halbarad,” Bilbo said suddenly, “should you encounter any resistance or stubbornness from these Dwarves, tell them you are friend to the burglar who accompanied Thorin Oakenshield on his journey. Tell them you respect the King under the Mountain, then and now, and wish only good relations with their people.”<< Bilbo thinks of everything, doesn't he. >>“Did you say ‘burglar’?”<< Uh oh, I guess Halbarad has not heard the story of The Hobbit. He best settle in and get comfy for I suspect Bilbo is about to tell his tale. As always, Shirebound, I eagerly look forward to more of this wonderful story. ~Elemmírë~

Author's reply

Thank you for so many lovely comments! And Bilbo must be delighted to have a brand-new audience to hear about his Grand Adventure. Let's all settle down by the hearth and listen as he tells it.... :D

Linda Hoyland · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

I loved the way Bilbo was able to advise Halbarad.I'm eager to see how Aragorn will be when he wakes up.

Author's reply

Yes, I think it's time we find out just how Aragorn (and Frodo) are doing. *sound of furious typing* :D

Cuthalion · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Wonderful chapter, Janet! Bilbo's warning against the effect of dwarvish ale made me grin, and that he has suddenly becomsecret keeper the secret keeper of Halbarad's love interest is very sweet. Too sad that Halbarad' fate is painfully predictable. You have given him so much heart and soul that it is more than easy to love him. Cúthalion

Author's reply

It's wonderful to help to 'fill in' a character we know so little about from canon. For Halbarad to be Aragorn's 'lieutenant' in the War, he had to have been quite special.

lbilover · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

I love that Serinde will get one of Scamp's pups :) And Bilbo was so wonderful in this conversation- wise and comforting and humorous. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's reply

I don't think Bilbo ever gets much of a chance to pass along his experience and knowledge to folks who need it! This must be very satisfying for him, as well as Halbarad. :D

Pearl Took · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Wonderful! “Did you say ‘burglar’?” LOL Like so many of your tales, this is exciting and gentle all at the same time :)

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl. And I do love that line, as well! What a crazy day for Halbarad. :D

Lindelea · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

“Did you say ‘burglar’?” *snork* Priceless line, perfect timing. No time for more--these are stolen moments! *g*

Author's reply

Thank you for stopping by in one of your stolen moments! You're quite the burglar yourself. :D

Raksha The Demon · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 6: Shards of Memory

Interesting - I don't think I've seen a fanfic story where Aragorn has lost some of his memory. Hopefully it won't last long! I loved the idea of Scamp waddling up the ramp to nestle on Frodo's bed. Young hobbits and friendly dogs go well together. I liked Hamfast's tenderness for his son and the pregnant bitch. If they don't watch her closely, she just might whelp there when her time comes.

Author's reply

Thank you, Raksha. It's very easy for me to imagine Frodo with a dog. And yes, we all need to watch Scamp very closely to make sure she and her pups stay safe and well. And in one of *my* stories... well, you can be confident they will! :D

Tigger · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Ooooh...So Halbarad has a lady love. How sweet. It's so interesting to see the hobbits through his eyes. He's come a long way since their adventure at Crickhollow, hasn't he? I'm hoping that Estel remembers a bit more of who and what he is before too long. You promised us Ranger Healing my friend? So...Hmmmm? ;o) Bilbo giving him the advice on how to deal w/the Dwarves was so wonderful. All those references to The Hobbit are delightful to see. Looking very much forward to the next chapter!!

Author's reply

In my stories, you can always be assured that there will be healing, and lots of it! Thank you for your comments. I like it when Bilbo can use his experience and knowledge to help others.

Glory Underhill · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

“Did you say ‘burglar’?” *giggle* Another delightful chapter. I'm growing very anxious over Scamp's condition though. *wants puppies* *wants Serinde to have a puppy!* hahaha

Author's reply

Thanks, Glory! I wish we could *all* have one of the Scamplings! :D

Elanor Silmariën · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Yay! I'm finally caught up!!! Oooooh!! Poor forgetful Aragorn! I do hope those dwarves are nice to Halbarad. And I hope Scamp doesn't have any problems having her puppies after such a stressfull time! More soon, please!!! God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

I doubt I could bear to write any puppy-angst! But hobbits and rangers... well, they have to endure just a wee bit of angst to get to the cuddling and comforting. Thanks for the enthusiasm, Ellie! :D

Vilwarin · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Serinde? How cool that you two are cooperating! Halbarad going alone to meet with the dwarves? Oh dear, they are most difficult to deal with. I hope he as learned his lesson in courtsey. ~Vilwarin

Author's reply

Hopefully he was listening to Bilbo very carefully indeed. :D

Baggins Babe · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

What a wonderful, homely portrait of Bag End and the conversation between Halbarad and Bilbo. Aragonr is in very good hands and Bilbo will see he is looked after. As will Bell Gamgee, who will keep the soup supply coming. I feel as though I've had a visit to Bag End - lovely!

Author's reply

Awww, thank you. We're lucky to be able to create and imagine our "happy places" (like Bag End) as warm and homely as we wish.

SurgicalSteel · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Hee! Absolutely delighful as always!

Author's reply

I'm so happy you like it! Serinde's presence finally arrives in the story. :D

Amy · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Ha ha ha ha! Bilbo can keep his secrets, that he can, indeed! Food, puppy plans, Gamgees, Halbarad, hooray! When does Aragorn wake up again, confused? And have to be pampered by hobbits?

Author's reply

The waking up and pampering begins in the next chapter! Lucky guy. :D

Andrea · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Halbarad nodded, then peered curiously at Bilbo. “Did you say ‘burglar’?” *grins* Well, I think under different circumstances the old burglar would gladly accompany young Halbarad to meet with the dwarves. The Ranger seems to be a little nervous. Whether because of Aragorn's accident or his upcoming meeting with the dwarves, or both, is hard to tell ;-) But don't worry, Halbarad, you'll manage it! For shirebound is taking good care of you, I'm sure :)

Author's reply

I suspect that Bilbo does wish he could go! But he'll see Dwarves again someday, on his own. Yes, Halbarad has a lot on his mind, doesn't he? But we know he can handle it. :D

harrowcat · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Now THERE is a tale that Halbarad really must hear! I just love it when you Authors play crossover and always enjoy the borrowings. Serinde with a son or daughter of Scamp? Oh yes, I can just imagine it.

Author's reply

A half-Baggins, half-Took, Ranger/Surgeon-raised pup growing up in Bree. That could be a series of adventures all by itself! *grins*

Ariel · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

Serindë? Hehehehe! Very nice chapter, SB.

Author's reply

Thank you! What fun to intertwine stories like this. :D

rabidsamfan · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 7: Concerning Dwarves

A lovely chapter, and the ending made me laugh out loud! Poor Halbarad, torn between an obligation and the desire to stay right where he is and keep an eye (or two!) on Aragorn. It will be interesting to see how Bilbo handles things without Halbarad there to help, though. Especially if Aragorn has a dizzy fit and falls!

Author's reply

I just had to insert some humor into this, since everyone is so worried!
