Periantari · 11 August 2006 · Chapter 6: Shards of Memory

I've been meaning to read this for a while~! and i really like what i see! What an explosion and h/c--yes, your h/c is so very well written. Especially Frodo h/c. hehe =) Aragorn h/c is done very well and i've never read Aragorn being cared and comforted so it's good to have him taken care of as well. I really liked the Sam comforting in this chapter too~ must've been very traumatic for him. I am slowly catching up and will leave you reviews along the way. :) And puppies! can't wait to see those! =)

Author's reply

I thought it would be a treat (and a challenge) to write some Aragorn h/c! I haven't tried that since the last chapters of "Quarantined". Thanks for reading, Peri An! Yes, we must give Frodo all the love and comfort he deserves. I just wish I had more free time to write this summer.

Lily Baggins · 11 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Oh my gosh, Frodo is so adorable here!!! I have to say, I like the little glimpses into his and Bilbo's relationship so much... it's a foreshadowing of how clever Frodo eventually proves as master of Bag End, I think. And I never mind Aragorn complaining about pain OR carrying a sleeping Frodo to bed despite the pain. No, don't mind at t'all... lovely chapter!

Author's reply

I've definitely tried, over the course of these "Quarantined" stories, to show Frodo maturing and gaining both self confidence and Bilbo's trust. I wish one of us knew how to draw. A lovely portrait of Aragorn carrying sleeping/drowsy/blankie-wrapped Frod... *happy sigh*

Gentle Hobbit · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

*happy sigh* I do love the warmth and gentleness between Bilbo and Frodo. I love your Bilbo -- he is such a perceptive guardian and friend... and not only to Frodo. One can see where the friendship hinted at in FotR began to develop.

Author's reply

I do see Bilbo as "guardian", very much so... and as a wise and perceptive friend -- un-looked for by those who might have begun by underestimating hobbits and their worth.

Queen Galadriel · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Oooo! I've missed this, Shirebound! Healing...a secret courtship...our darling Scamp...puppies coming very, very soon...Shirefolk helping one another...Bagginses and Gamgees...it all gives me the cosy feeling that is your trademark. Oh, I've missed this-sitting down to one of your stories and not being able to stop smiling. :) Poor Aragorn! He's forgotten one of the most important things. But I'm sure when he regains his memory, it will be in a wonderful or touching way. And yes, the Gamgees will indeed end up with one or more puppies, and I'll bet one of them will follow Ham everywhere he goes. *grin* Can't wait for more! God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Thank you, sweet one! And I do hope you enjoy the means by which Aragorn fully remembers his worth and destiny. Puppies! *grins* *cuddly, cosy hugs*

Amy · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Ah ha, using the proofs of his kingship on Aragorn himself! What an original idea! Let's hope he remembers in time to take up the throne! Interesting how the term little one, when said with love and respect, can mean a lot. Aragorn's and Frodo's relative size difference also would take any sting away. Promised puppies, hooray! Wee doggies! For some reason, I feel like a nap and a snack after reading this chapter. *wanders away*

Author's reply

It was fun how in "Quarantined", Aragorn insisted on saying 'little one' even when Frodo protested. It became such a loving nickname by the end of the story. *joins you in nap and snack and puppy dreams*

Andrea · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

That was wonderful, shirebound! I would very much like to quote the whole chapter, but instead I'm quoting just this: Bilbo went looking for Scamp, and found her in the kitchen – with the Gaffer. Hamfast was sitting on the floor, feeding the dog some pieces of roasted beef and talking quietly to her. What an image! The old Gaffer sitting on the floor and talking to a dog! Frodo grinned. “I’m not surprised in the least. He acts so gruff, but he’s always delighted to see Scamp out in the garden – unless she’s digging up something, that is. LOL! Clever boy! I'm quite sure that old Bilbo will find a way to give the Gamgee children a puppy!

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I'm so happy when folks highlight their favorite parts. So you think there might be a Scampling in the Gamgees' future? Could be... *grins*

Baggins Babe · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Oooooh!!!!!! If I had to quote what I most loved about this chapter I would just type the whole thing! I adored Aragorn with Bilbo and the scene with the Gaffer talking away to Scamp was absolutely gorgeous. I felt as though I was there - and I love Bilbo's theory that Aragorn just needs a few days off! :-)) I'm hoping you'll review the first chapter of the new story which I posted last night - things aren't complete without a Shirebound review!

Author's reply

I felt as though I was there -- What a lovely compliment, BB! I did read your new chapter, but I was shivering with fear at the end of it! I'll pull myself together and leave a proper review. :D

cpsings4him · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Shirebound, this is a wonderful chapter! I loved the way that Bilbo was subtly trying to bring Aragorn around to a conclusion about who he is and what it means. And, yea! Everything is working out with Scamps pups. :-) Can't wait to see what else happens. Thank you for this!

Author's reply

Awww, thank you. Bilbo is doing his best to help everyone (even the Gaffer) discover what they really want, and who they really are. :D

Lindelea · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

I love to see Bilbo's tender feelings towards Frodo. And here are a few bits that jump out at me. This hobbit, he thought ruefully, currently knows more about me than I do. My goodness, Aragorn has Maia in his background? I didn't know that story! No wonder he has a near-magical way with healing. “Perhaps you just need a few days off; a bit of a vacation, as it were. I often feel that way, myself.” Poor Bilbo, he's already feeling a bit stretched and thin, isn't he? In need of a holiday, but there's no getting away from what really is burdening him. He carries it with him wherever he goes. Hamfast! Sitting on the floor! Lovely! (Reminds me of something from my childhood. Our dad brought home a puppy, over our mother's objections. She'd grumble about the "miserable dog", but once a brother swore he'd come home from school to find her gently stroking his head and murmuring sweet nothings. When she saw Brother she immediately pushed the dog away, muttering, "miserable dog". And the dog followed her everywhere, imagine that. He had to stay in a far corner of the dining room when we ate, though, lying down. One night we had pork chops for dinner, and to our astonishment, suddenly a pork chop was sailing through the air, directly to the dog, lying sad but patient in his corner. (Mom had been a star pitcher on her brother's baseball team...) She met our looks of surprise, shrugged, and said, "It slipped." Things were never quite the same after that.) “And if they wed, she’ll be an honorary-Brandybuck-by-marriage, won’t she?” I have *got* to read that story of yours, where Halbarad becomes an honorary Brandybuck.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for highlighting different parts. (And if you ever get to read "Force of Nature", I'd love to know what you think of it. I had such a wonderful time writing that story.) *giggles* I think your mom was part-Gaffer! What a great story about her and the dog. :D

SurgicalSteel · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Well, this was utterly lovely - Aragorn kneeling to have his wrist re-bandaged, Bilbo fussing over him *and* Frodo, the puppy conversation, Frodo being consulted on whether to help re-build the shop... So many lovely moments in this chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I think Bilbo, at his age, would be very take-charge and sure of himself, especially where his loved ones are concerned.

Dreamflower · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Now, this chapter really made me smile. I'm glad Aragorn/Estel is beginning to slowly get his memory back. I think perhaps his mind just needed a little vacation from responsibility... And the Gaffer with Scamp was adorable--I think that Sam's going to get a pup myself... Your Bilbo is so sweet and wise. You have him down perfectly.

Author's reply

Thank you! I think Bilbo *is* very wise, but doesn't always have a chance to show it. I can't wait to start writing about puppies... :D

Pearl Took · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

“Hamfast Gamgee, you softie,” Bilbo chuckled to himself. “Sam’s going to end up with one -- or more -- of the pups, or I’m not a Baggins.” Hehehe! Bilbo knows his Gamgees well :-) I'm sure looking forward to the pups being born!

Author's reply

Bilbo is very wise and perceptive! I love writing about him.

Ainu Laire · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Excellent chapter, as usual! I have no doubt in Halbarad. I'm sure he'll do a fine job :) I'm glad that Aragorn and Frodo are doing better! I hope that Aragorn's memory will come back with not too many problems. ... well. Not really. A couple problems are never a bad thing... *evil grin* You know us angst writers... Anyways, I enjoyed this, again as usual. My apologies for my general absense from reviews and your LJ; I was extremely busy in July with my Shakespeare play, the Comic Con, and of course getting prepared even more for my little sister. But hopefully now that August is a bit calmer I'll be able to be around more ^^ Continue soon! I want to see those puppies as well!

Author's reply

*waves* I'm having one of the busiest summers of my life, so I understand how precious and rare free time is to read and/or write. I'm glad you're continuing to enjoy this. Eeee, a little sister! :D

lbilover · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Oh, what a wonderful chapter! First, that softie the Gaffer and what Bilbo overheard him say, then dear Bilbo reassuring Aragorn, and consulting Frodo on money matters, and Halbarad getting one of the pups for his lady in Bree... just many, many wonderful moments. Thank you!!

Author's reply

Thank *you* so much. I like it when Bilbo can use his more than 100 years of life experience to advise and reassure everyone around him.

EllyBaggins · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

hehehe, i do hope the Gaffer ends up with at least 1 puppy! i wonder how Halbarad is faring...

Author's reply

I think Bilbo has a plan... :D And don't worry, I haven't forgetten about poor Halbarad!

SlightlyTookish · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

A happy, hungry hobbit is always a good sign. And puppies soon, yay!

Author's reply

Soon, yes! I don't think Scamp wants to wait much longer. :D

Elwen · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 10: Conversations

Awwwwwwwwww. Hungry lil Frodo. He's definately on the mend. And I did love that little image of Aragorn kneeling in front of Bilbo to have his wrist rebandaged. For some reason I found it rather touching.

Author's reply

Thank you. I rather love the idea of Aragorn kneeling in front of Bilbo, too! I can see it so clearly in my head, I wish I could draw... even a little bit.

SurgicalSteel · 6 August 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

I still really like Gilly - she's right on target with why 'Estel' doesn't remember. Likely being chieftain represents little to him but heartache and headaches.

Author's reply

I'm so honored that you like Gilly, yay! :D

SurgicalSteel · 6 August 2006 · Chapter 8: Reassurances

Loved this chapter - poor head injured Aragorn, but at least he remembers Frodo...

Author's reply

Yes, I/Frodo couldn't bear it if Aragorn forgot his little one.

Elemmírë · 29 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

Simply too sweet for words, Shirebound! :D Seems all the Gamgees have a soft spot when it comes to Scamp ... as they do with Frodo and Bilbo too. There were no gentry in all of Hobbiton more respectful and kind to him and his family than Mr. Bilbo and young Mr. Frodo, and whatever would help them through the next few days would be done... and done well. You write Aragorn and Frodo so very well together, no matter what time in their lives. I love the caring they portray for one another and the deep friendship they share. It's alway such a delight to read (especially after working three busy nights at the hospital). It just fills one up with warmth and love. I also really enjoy your Frodo and Bilbo scenes and their special relationship in regard to one another as well. The little added touches like Bilbo checking Frodo's fever and noticing that he had been crying make a story so much more detailed and enjoyable to read, along with showing his concern and love for Frodo. I'm in total agreement with Dreamflower that too few write Bilbo. Yeah Gilly!! Gives her a hug for taking time to see to Bilbo's needs as well, by making sure he eats enough and hopefully relaxes some. Looking forward to more, Shirebound! P.S. Thank you for answering my question on posting quotes from fics. And here I thought it was something more difficult than what I thought it would be! LOL!!

Author's reply

Yay, you did italics! :D From the first chapter of the first story in this series ("Quarantined"), Bilbo has been an integral part of the story. I've learned so much about him by writing this series! I'm so happy you're enjoying it. Warmth and love and caring... How I love bringing these into the life of a young hobbit tween, his friends, and a Ranger who's found a "home and family" with these gentle folks.

Linda Hoyland · 29 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

It is lovely to see everyone starting to recover. You always leave your readers feeling good.

Author's reply

Awww, thank you, Linda. I really appreciate that. :D

Baggins Babe · 28 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

*squee* Frodo and Aragorn cuddling - can I wriggle in there somewhere, please? It was so wonderful to see the love between them and Aragorn's concern over Frodo's injuries. I really like Halfred - you can tell he's Sam's brother, full of kindness and common sense. I always think Bell Gamgee lived for a good while (? dying in the year of Bilbo's infamous party) because Sam clearly knew a mother's love. I just want to ruffle Halfred's curls every time he appears. Scamp with chew toy.............. Can that pup get any more cute!

Author's reply

Thanks, BB! A story with no cuddling... horrors! There was nothing our own dog loved more than munching away on a brand-new chew toy. Surely Shire pups are the same! :D

Cuthalion · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

Delightful chapter - a ranger with a headache, a highly pregnant pup, ready to burst, a concerned Bilbo and a friendly, helpful Halfred... very hobbity! Thank you for this beautiful tale!

Author's reply

Thank *you*! I'm so glad you're enjoying this. :D

Dreamflower · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

This is such a nice lovely comforting chapter! I'm really looking forward to seeing Scamp's pups! I'd just like to say a little bit about your Halfred. He's such a lovely young hobbit, very practical and considerate--you can so easily see that he is a very good role model for his little brother! I really like him!

Author's reply

Thanks, Dreamflower. I'm looking forward to the pups, myself! I enjoy writing the Gamgees as a practical, loving, hard-working family. It brings them to life for me.

Lily Baggins · 26 July 2006 · Chapter 9: Breakfast in Bed

Oh dear, Frodo must REALLY be sleepy if he's forgoing breakfast for the moment! Absolutely loved this scene of Frodo and Aragorn talking together in the bed, especially (as you probably would guess) Aragorn suddenly being all serious and concerned when learning of Frodo's injury (do I ever tire of this? No). And I do have to say I like Halfred a LOT----so nice to see him in a fic! Delightful and adorable chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I can't remember if I ever wrote about Halfred before. I like him, too! I imagine all the Gamgees as very solicitous and protective when it comes to Bilbo and Frodo.
