· Chapter 34: Oh what joy, in the open air, Freely to breathe again!
Having got so far with the next story I am finding it so much easier to read this one again. I know what it feel like when 'something gives way' in the back. Poor Faramir.

Many thanks for your much appreciated review, that was fast,I had only just posted the chapter ! I'm pleased you are finding the story easier to read now.

At least the fever has broken. Our heroes don't have an easy course ahead when the physician can't heal himself. Good thing that Faramir was so well-prepared in terms of supplies.
Thanx for the praise of my 'teaching'. I don't have much to teach you, but everyone can benefit from a beta. And it's much easier to edit someone else's occasionally excessive prose than one's own, particularly when the story is already so strong.

Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
I don't know what Faramir would have done without Tarostar's help and you are right,a difficult road lies ahead.
It is very hard to edit one's own story as you cannotsee your own mistakes.Your help is greatly appreciated in trying to make my stories a worthwhile enterprise.

Oh my goodness, it looks as if our King is in dreadful shape, now with chillblains on top of everything else, but at least he's accepting Fara's help, albeit warily. Just another one of those chapters where I wish I could give all the characters big hugs, though I would have to hug Aragorn very gently of course, and take them some hot soup and some modern medical supplies!

I suppose Aragorn is in too much of a state to be totally rational just now - but you'd think he would be gladder to have been rescued. He seems to trust Faramir in some ways - while sticking in the knife in others. (Oh well - I suppose he can't be perfect!)
I'm glad he seems to be getting a bit better.
Author's reply

I think Aragorn fears this rescue might be just a brief respite to make him well enough to endure further torture. The poor man is very ill and confused.

How much have you edited this Linda? I don't have time to go onto the other site and look, (I am at work and shouldn't be reading at all,) but it reads so well. Love the resoration of the thought bond even if only in part.
Author's reply
Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I have tried to edit out typos, put in missed commas, break up overlong sentences, chop out bits that aren't needed and try to avoid repeating words,in short do everything Raksha is trying to teach me as she edits my current story !
I am so pleased you think the rewrite works well,it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

· Chapter 32: Two are better than one
If you were trying to make this chapter more poignant in the re-write, you succeeded. I would think Elestelle might have a connection to both Fara and Aragorn, Fara of course because he's her father, and Aragorn because he saved her life when she was born. Elbeth and Fara were both very brave and thus succeeded in saving their King when many others would have given him up for dead.

· Chapter 32: Two are better than one
Well, it's about time there was some improvement in Aragorn's condition. Faramir has been so good to him, and has now saved his life again...
Great interlude with Arwen and Eowyn and the two fey babies. Eowyn must have been going nuts, shut up in there with them, the only one who wasn't psychically caught up in Aragorn's struggle with death.
Author's reply
Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
Aragorn as to survive,as much for Faramir's sake as for Gondor's as the poor man is trying so hard !
I think Eowyn finds it very trying on occasion to be the only one who isn't gifted with mystical Elven and Numenorean abilities. Not that I think she would want such a strange gift.

I like Eowyn's practical response. Nothing like a good cup of tea when crises rear their ugly heads.
Poor Faramir. It's doubtless a good thing the Elbeth is around. He'd probably give in to despair without her.

I think Eowyn must be English at heart, I always reach for the teapot too in a crisis.
I found Faramir's anguish quite hard to deal with even though this is a rewrite and I know what happens !

Terribly sad chapter for all the characters--even Arwen, Eldarion, and Eowyn are drawn in to this dark night of the soul for Fara and Aragorn. I hope Fara and Elbeth can save Aragorn and get him to use that Numenorean vitality for healing himself, as his death would shatter so many hearts and lives.

· Chapter 30: Flee an enemy who knows your weakness.
Elbeth is a sweetie, but it looks like poor Fara is about at the end of his rope, physically and emotionally. I guess there's no chance we can have one of the drs. from "Grey's Anatomy" or "ER" pop in and give him a break in caring for his King? Nah, that would be a deus ex machina as well as one of those "I suddenly found myself in ME" things, neither of which make for good stories. I guess we'll just have to trust the Steward and his niece to get the job done, though it doesn't look as if it's going to get any easier with Aragorn about to wander out into the snow and cold.

Elbeth is good for Faramir - I think he might well lose his grasp on what he's doing if she wasn't there. He's has about as much as he can take.
And Aragorn is in a proper state - I hope Faramir and Elbeth catch up with him soon. This is not the weather for him to be running around half-dressed.

Definitely - fur would be an improvement.
Elbeth has seen far too much in her short life. I hope she is resilient enough that it hasn't done her too much harm.

· Chapter 29: What is our innocence ?
Poor Faramir, he really could use some adult, medically skilled, company here, but the burdens are his alone, dealing with a badly tortured King and a curious, lively child, not to mention his own guilt. Too bad Faramir can't step away, emotionally, and understand that if it wasn't for him, Aragorn would have been tortured to a cruel and lonely death.
Good chapter, as usual.

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. It is a miracle that Faramir is coping at all as ARagorn's injuries would challenge a skilled healer. He has only love and determination to guide him and a few labels on jars.
I always think Faramir sets himself impossible standards and feels guilty when he cannot meet them.

Again, poor Aragorn, and poor Fara, not only does he have the terrible ordeal of dealing with Aragorn's wounds, he has to deal with them while Aragorn keeps calling him a traitor and lashing out at him. Thank goodness for Elbeth, she continues to deal with this whole adventure very well for someone of her age.

Poor Faramir, having to rely on a little kid to medicate Aragorn. But at least he's got help, and Elbeth is an unusually resourceful child.
I would disagree that kittens are more cuddly and pretty than puppies, though; both critters are physically attractive and exceptionally cute. However, considering how helpful Elbeth has been, Faramir should let her have ten ginger kitties if they ever get home.
Author's reply
Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
Faramir is indeed lucky to have Elbeth, who is far from the problem he anticipated her to be.
I think the world is divided into puppy and kitten people !I Do think both are cute but have a special love of kittens.I'm sure Faramir will see Elbeth is rewarded with the kitten of her dreams.

I don't know about best Aragorn angst Linda. I think that it is the torture that you put Faramir through that makes this so hard to read! But I am glad that Elbeth is there for both their sakes.

I think both Aragorn and Faramir suffer almost equally, begging the question of is suffering of the mind or body hardest to bear?
ELbeth is proving to be her father's aughter and a great asset.

Oh my goodness! I just want to hug both Aragorn and Fara, albeit that I would hug our King very very gently. With this updated version, you have certainly succeeded in making what Aragorn suffered in SAT look like nothing compared to what those wicked traitors did to him in that basement cell, and I know that was something you wanted to accomplish.

What a bad time for Aragorn to awaken! You'd think he'd get some relief from his wounds being tended; but the evil Queen of Angst who's writing the story wants the readers to suffer as much as Aragorn is!
At least Faramir is washing his hands between the tending of various wounds. Clever Faramir; he may not be a professional healer, but he's probably observed and learned a lot about the importance of hygience in medicine.

I was once hailed as Queen of Angst and Goddess of Torture! Whether it was meant as a compliment, I have no idea.
I think that after all I've put poor faramir through in my stories he must have learned something from both Aragorn and Eowyn about correct procedures.

Elbeth was her usual plucky self in this chapter, but poor Aragorn! I'm glad Fara is going to give him a bath, but please, as soon as he can swallow, will somebody give the poor man a drink? He must be pretty close to dehydration, which isn't going to help those wounds that made Faramir gasp heal any faster.
