Bodkin · 20 January 2007 · Chapter 41: At last, at last !

Well - Faramir's done about as much as he can for the moment. If he doesn't get a break, he'll be collapsing, and that won't do anyone any good! Being with Arwen'll help Aragorn - and hopefully she'll be able to get through to him that pretending to be a traitor in order to rescue him was actually one of the most heroic things Faramir could've done. Maybe.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. You are right about FAramir, but can even Arwen get Aragorn to understand just yet?

Julia · 16 January 2007 · Chapter 41: At last, at last !

Aaaw, what a beautiful chapter-thanks for dedicating it to me. It was so wonderful to see Arwen, Aragorn, and baby Eldarion reunited at last. I was also glad that Arwen told Aragorn that she had asked Faramir to pretend to join the traitors in order to try to save him, it might make him a bit less suspicious of Fara. The next chapters are not going to be easy ones, as Eowyn and Arwen, with help from Faramir, are going to have to heal Aragorn of his injuries, and that includes resetting that smashed hand of his. But at least everyone is reunited in a reasonably safe place at last.

harrowcat · 16 January 2007 · Chapter 41: At last, at last !

Good to see them together again. Loved the bay's reaction.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review.Although I know what happens, I feel happy they are reunited too !

Raksha The Demon · 16 January 2007 · Chapter 41: At last, at last !

My favorite moment in this highly charged chapter is baby Eldarion's happy greeting to his broken, exhausted father. It's such a lovely bit...

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated and very speedy review.I love that moment too and hope it helped poor Aragorn.

Bodkin · 4 January 2007 · Chapter 40: 'Til we've seen this journey through

The cow game doesn't seem to work quite as well as counting different coloured cars - I have to agree with Elbeth, it could get tedious. Mind you, she revelled in Faramir's praise. She needs approval for her achievements. It's a good job they have arrived at their refuge - Aragorn needs rest and to see that Arwen and Eldarion are safe and Faramir needs Eowyn.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I would imagine counting cows was tedious, especially if they look as alike as the ones I've seen do ! Elbeth has grown on me.She was only originally intended to be mentioned in Shadow and Thought but demanded to be given a larger role ! Our poor heroes do badly need a safe haven.

Julia · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 40: 'Til we've seen this journey through

Thank the Valar, it looks as if they have found their wives at the farm of the loyal Damrod's sister. I am extremely glad, as I doubt our miserable King and Steward could make it through another chapter without assistance, and even Elbeth can doubtless use a bath, some clean clothes, and some bread and jam.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I doubt they could make it through another chapter either. Whether Elbeth will appreciate a bath is another matter !

harrowcat · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 40: 'Til we've seen this journey through

You are really making us feel the emotional ups and downs in this journey. And I love the song that verse comes from.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm pleased you can feel for the characters. I love the hymn too.It was a great to comfort to my late Mother during her final illness.

Raksha The Demon · 2 January 2007 · Chapter 40: 'Til we've seen this journey through

At last, our heroes are getting real light at the end of the tunnel. Very real tensions described here, between Aragorn and Faramir, even spilling over in Aragorn's annoyance with Elbeth. Aragorn plainly is exhausted in all respects.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I fear our heroes are getting to the end of their tethers, especially Aragorn who needs to be in bed tended by a healer.

Bodkin · 28 December 2006 · Chapter 39: Deliver us from evil

Phew. It seems as if the Lord of Lossarnach has found himself twisted in a scheme not of his making and is doing his best to help them get away. And they'll be safe soon ... well, back with their wives anyway. And stand a chance of physical recovery. Three cheers for Elbeth.

Julia · 26 December 2006 · Chapter 39: Deliver us from evil

I liked how this chapter showed Fontos' thoughts a bit, as it allowed us access to the mind and motivations of one of the traitors, albeit a bit of a reluctant one. I don't really like Fontos any better, but I hope his making the right decision and letting Aragorn,Fara and Elbeth go helps him a bit when all the punishments are handed down. I also hope they get to that farmhouse soon, as both men desperately need the solace of their wives, and Aragorn needs the skills of a trained healer like Eowyn, though Fara has been doing the very best he can to tend to his King, and even Elbeth has been able to help.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I wanted to make the traitors more than cardboard cut outs. I think Fontos is weak and cowardly rather than evil. Let us hope they encounter no more obstacles on the way !

harrowcat · 26 December 2006 · Chapter 39: Deliver us from evil

This is definitely better Linda even though I liked it a lot before. Sorry this is short - stealing time on my Ded's lap top.

Bodkin · 15 December 2006 · Chapter 38: They have prepared a net for my steps

Tired, bored and hungry. Typical child. She hasn't quite said, 'Are we nearly there yet?' but she's come close! And of course Faramir's worked out a cover story, Aragorn. What do you expect him to say? 'I'm just rescuing the king from a group of torturing traitors'? And what a cliffhanger!

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I'm pleased you liked the chapter.

Julia · 13 December 2006 · Chapter 38: They have prepared a net for my steps

Oh my, what a cliffie at the end! I hope the guys make it to the farm where the ladies and babies are hiding out, because they both seem to be at the end of their ropes. Let's hope their disguise is good enough to get past the Lord of Lossarnach. Elbeth was good in this chapter, I know I would never have been able to control a big horse like Zachus at such a young age. She did complain a bit, but to my mind far less than the average child would when faced with such a journey.

Bodkin · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 37: Too Much Suspicion

It'll be a long time before Aragorn and Faramir manage to get over this! But Aragorn should bear in mind that if Faramir really wanted him dead, he could have rid himself of his king a long time since. He is doing his best to help Aragorn - greatly aided by young Elbeth. Hopefully they'll get back to Arwen and Eowyn soon. That might help!

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I fear it will indeed take them both a long time to recover. I think poor Aragorn hardly knows what to think any more. They both need their ultra sensible wives !

Raksha The Demon · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 37: Too Much Suspicion

Poor Aragorn needs a few weeks at a spa, with round the clock nursing, and visits from Arwen, and good food. But instead, he's got Faramir as his nurse and orderly and valet, Elbeth as moral support, and a long, uncomfortable ride ahead. No way to treat a King! Still, Aragorn is lucky to be alive, and has Faramir to thank for it! Let's hope he eventually realizes it. Good chapter.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I couldn't agree more, no way to treat a king at all !I suppose were things different, he would welcome visits from Faramir as well as Arwen but at present, cannot stand the sight of the poor Steward ! I'm glad you liked the chapter.

Julia · 5 December 2006 · Chapter 37: Too Much Suspicion

Oh, these two are hurting so bad, I'm glad they are going to try to make it to the farmhouse, even though it will be a dangerous journey with the conspirators possibly pursuing them, and Aragorn still so weak. Aragorn desperately needs to be with Arwen and Eldarion, and Faramir needs Eowyn and Elestelle just as desperately.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I feel so sorry for them both. They need their sensible wives very badly !

Bodkin · 28 November 2006 · Chapter 36: Come to me in dreams

At least in dreams there is some happiness - because there's not much when they're awake. They're both in a pretty bad way, one way or another. They need to get back to their wives for a bit of TLC and talking-to before they attempt to sort out the monarchical mess! I reckon Elbeth could make mincemeat of them at the moment - if she was that way inclined!

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I used the dreams to link this story to the one I wrote on impulse for Christmas last year. Our heroes are indeed in a right mess.A good job Elbeth is on their side !

Julia · 27 November 2006 · Chapter 36: Come to me in dreams

Again, big comforting hugs going out to Fara and Aragorn for this chapter. I was glad that Fara finally got to tell a bit of his side of the story, how Arwen herself asked him to play the traitor in order to rescue Aragorn, though of course Aragorn doubts his veracity, and will continue to do so for quite awhile.

Raksha The Demon · 27 November 2006 · Chapter 36: Come to me in dreams

Misery loves company, and there's plenty of it to go around between Aragorn and Faramir. Good thing that Elbeth was sleeping soundly. I really feel bad for both the guys, but especially Faramir; he's saved the King at the price of his own honor, and all he gets is the King's distrust. But it's understandable, Aragorn is not exactly himself...

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I fear our heroes are drowning in misery at the moment. It is hard to know who is suffering the most.

Bodkin · 23 November 2006 · Chapter 35: Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross

I like little Elbeth on the horse. The man killed in cold blood? I reckon this was a battle of a different kind - and he more than deserved his fate.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. Yes, the man deserved his fate as he had coldlt trtured Aragorn. I'm pleased you enjoyed Elbeth's part.

Julia · 22 November 2006 · Chapter 35: Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross

Ugh, lots of torture for both our Steward and our King there, but it is some comfort knowing Aragorn's wounds are getting dressed properly. Nice bit with Elbeth and the horse at the end, to inject a little cheer after all that angst. She certainly did deserve a ride as a reward after all she has done to help her uncle and her "Strider."

harrowcat · 22 November 2006 · Chapter 35: Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross

As someone who was born not too far from Banbury I love the title of this chapter Linda. Elbeth seems to be coping with the many changes in her world. Strider is, at least, a constant presence.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I fear I've never been to Banbury, but a friend used to live there.Elbeth is a resilient child, thank Goodness.

Bodkin · 20 November 2006 · Chapter 34: Oh what joy, in the open air, Freely to breathe again!

Poor Faramir - he's giving all he can, but Aragorn is very frail. I do like Elbeth. I think they might have cracked without her.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I find these chapters hard to write with our poor heroes suffering so much.I'm pleased you like Elbeth as OC's are always something of a gamble, but she keeps wanting to be in the story !

Julia · 16 November 2006 · Chapter 34: Oh what joy, in the open air, Freely to breathe again!

Oh my goodness, poor Aragorn, so tormented by his ordeal that he convinces Fara to carry him outside just to see the sky. I wish Arwen as well as Eowyn were there to help heal and console their men. But I think Elbeth did a very good job of helping Fara with Aragorn and even with cheering the King, at least a little bit. Nice to see she takes after her uncle's side of the family and not her horrid mother's.

Author's reply

Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I found this pretty heartbreaking both to first write and then revisit.Aragorn was always so srong and in the past, he tried to get Faramir to come to him.THese two need their wives more than ever now.Elbeth is the one bright spark in the gloom.

Raksha The Demon · 16 November 2006 · Chapter 34: Oh what joy, in the open air, Freely to breathe again!

Heartbreaking yet hopeful chapter. Aragorn's desperate need to see the sky is very realistic, and so sad. It hurts the reader as well as Faramir to see that Aragorn is repulsed by the idea of Faramir carrying him, yet the wounded King has no other way to accomplish his goal. Very poignant. The former friends are in a bad place right now, physically and emotionally, but there is hope at least for Aragorn's recovery.
