Oh, how romantic!!!! Squeeeee! He finally proposed. :-) The necklace is beautiful. I almost forgot about the Tree Proposal until now, and it was most excellent. :-) Looking forward to the next chapter...today? I know there is much more to come. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank'ee kindly, Pippinfan :) Yes, more coming soon ;) Thank you for re-reading this story!

Bodkin · 29 May 2006 · Chapter 12: Up a Tree

Sweet little Elanor. I'm not surprised that Pippin suffered temporary loss of the use of his legs, though. Although I'm sure he thought it was worth it! He couldn't have chosen a much more unusual place for his proposal. I should think Diamond nearly fell out of the tree in shock! But I'm glad she recovered quickly and didn't leave him wondering about her response. I love Sam and Rosie.

Author's reply

Hehehehe! Oh yes, he thought it was very much worth it ;) I think the proposal up the tree was great because it was a way to see if she could handle our impetuous Took :) I'm so glad you love my Sam and Rosie :) Thank you for staying with this story, Bodkin!

Larner · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 12: Up a Tree

Now THAT is indeed quite the promise gift! And in the mallorn tree? Of course, although I'm surprised it is quite large enough to hold the two of them, even being a mallorn and with the aid of the dust. But I so love the thought of it. Yes, the right place!

Author's reply

You aren't the first to mention about the tree, ah well - I put a lot of "magic" in the dust of Lothlorien ;) I'm sorry if it took some of the believability from it - but glad you love it anyway :) Thank you so much, Larner, for staying with me :) :)

Larner · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 11: Dark Memories

Yes, I had Rosie do similarly with Sam's scars, that he might remember her love more than the evil will that inflicted them. Very beautiful imagery.

Author's reply

Did you? Cool :) Our lads all needed a lot of healing in their lives. Thank you, Larner, for the kind compliment :)

Larner · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 10: The Morning After

Yes, that's our Rosie. And the thought of Diamond's father dying after asking the ruffians for liquor--that is hard.

Author's reply

Rosie had to be a sweety to wait for her Sam - and for him to love. Alcoholism is a hard thing indeed. Thank you so much, Larner :)

Larner · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Festival Ball

Most suitable revenge, and all there know that Persimmone has fairly earned the ire of the Tooks. Beautifully done.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Larner! Oh yes - she definitely got what she deserved! Thank you :) :)

Larner · 27 May 2006 · Chapter 8: A Festive Day

I shall rejoice when Persimmone gets her due comeuppance, which shall be soon, I would think. Pippin's not going to stand for anyone disturbing the happiness of his young lady.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :) No, Pippin has had to defend those he cares about before, She'll be dealt with ;)

Larner · 27 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Festival Bound

Yes, that appears to be true. A FAR different lass than the ones planning Pippin's future at the party!

Author's reply

Yes. I think the others are the type that many lads think they want . . . until they've been around them for a while. Thank you so much, Larner for reading and responding :)

Grey Wonderer · 27 May 2006 · Chapter 12: Up a Tree

Pippin, er, Peregrin is so very romantic! I love the fact that he was serious enough to ask her to marry him and yet still child-like enough for tree-climbing. Lovely chapter.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, GW :) Yes, as he says, "Would you marry both of me?" I've known a good many such males that grow up just fine but still have their boyishness. In fact, there's this one Scotsman . . . ;) Thank you for staying with me on this :)

Bodkin · 18 May 2006 · Chapter 11: Dark Memories

Hurrah! They've said they love each other and they're snuggled up together. In the dark, too! They'll have to get married. Pippin showing weakness - well, he might not think so, but I reckon that was a Very Good Thing. It will make Diamond feel that she has something she can offer to the relationship and make it rather less a case of Perfect Pippin taking an interest in an unimportant lass. (Not well explained, but I hope you see what I mean.) I'm glad he shared his nightmares - and that Diamond took them on herself and kissed him better. A good bit of progress made here, I think!

Author's reply

Yes, they will just simply have to get married now ;) Oh yes! I see exactly what you mean :) I think Pippin has always known Diamond has a lot to offer him, a lot she brings to the relationship. But I don't think Diamond knew it. He's the lad she put on a pedistal, one that got even higher and grander after he came back to the Shire all strong and leading the hobbits in clearing their land of Ruffians. But now she knows - he hurts inside just like she does and that he needs her love. *sigh* Yes, she'll be feeling better about herself now :) Thank you so much, Bodkin, I love your insightful responses :)

PIppinfan1988 · 16 May 2006 · Chapter 11: Dark Memories

"Little Pippin," Sam said and sighed. "She's a wonderful lass, tell her how you feel and marry the girl, then have little ones of your own to tell your tales to." LOL, well, so far as I can read, they have only one Little One of their own (regarding your wonderful tale!). Will we ever see more??? ;-) Oh, this chapter was brilliant! Excellent! There was quite a bit that I don't remember from the first edition. Perhaps it was there before, but my swiss-cheese memory *is* full of holes. The scene of the Uruk-hai and Pippin and Merry was quite chilling...and made perfect sense--the hobbits could serve in a variety of sport--as long as they arrived at Orthanc still breathing. Very sweet and romantic healing scene! I thoroughly enjoyed reading everything. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank you :) I think most of this was there before. I did tone down some of the feel of the telling of the dream and Diamond's ministrations as I felt they were too close to being over the top. Yes, I feel they would have got abused a fair amount any time the band of orcs stopped for a "rest". Poor small lads :( Thank you so much, Pippinfan, for your loyalty and wonderful reviews :)

Grey Wonderer · 15 May 2006 · Chapter 11: Dark Memories

I don't know which got to me more, Sam tucking Pippin in or Diamond comforting him and insisting that he tell her about his dreams. This was lovely and very emotional. I could see them there in the moonlight asleep in each others arms.

Author's reply

Thank you, GW! Yes, tender moments either way. I'm glad it is coming out well :) Thank you so much for responding :)

Bodkin · 14 May 2006 · Chapter 10: The Morning After

Even the haziest recollection of Pippin by her bedside should convince Diamond of his worry for her! And she has the Rosie seal of approval - I somehow suspect that Persimmone would never have gained that. I hope Pippin listens to Sam's suggestion, too. At the moment, Diamond needs a little more encouragement. And remind anyone who is listening - never, never cross the Took sisters!

Author's reply

Yes, but Diamond does have her insecurities, the dear lass. Rosie, like Sam, has a head full of good Hobbit-sense, she would never have approved of Persimmone :) Yes, I think Diamond and Pip both need some encouragement, they are both a bit wobbly right now. You've got it right - " . . . never, never cross the Took sisters!" especially in regards to family. Again, thank you so very much, Bodkin :) I enjoy your comments :)

PIppinfan1988 · 13 May 2006 · Chapter 10: The Morning After

Ooooh! A nasty hangover--poor Diamond. Pippin is so loving, so tender; what a sweet hobbit. :-) I can't wait to see their relationship start to blossom. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Yes, poor dear lass :( I have always, even pre movies, felt Pippin would be a sweet, tenderhearted lad. Thank you for sticking with me, Pippinfan, and for being an encourager :)

Grey Wonderer · 12 May 2006 · Chapter 10: The Morning After

Rose and Sam are the perfect pair. They both have more common sense than half the Shire. I love the way Rose is mothering Diamond and Sam did an excellent job with Pippin too. This is such a lovely story. I may have said so before but it is worth repeating. I am enjoying this very much and looking forward to more.

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, GW!!! I'm in real need of some encouragement right now and your words are most sweet. Thank you :) :)

PIppinfan1988 · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Festival Ball

Oh, the Terrible Took Sisters to the rescue--yeay! What a sour persimmone! LOL, she got hers, though. Pearl should've let him go with the sword, lol. Poor Diamond is going to wake up in the morning with a humungous hangover. Excellent, excellent chapter! :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Yes, they save the day :) Persimmone is most sour. Hopefully our lad would have stopped short of murder but it would have been great for him to scare her near to death ;) Thank so very much, dear PF :)

Grey Wonderer · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Festival Ball

I love Pippin's sisters in this. I also liked how frustrated Pippin was that he couldn't do anything himself since she was a lass. Very funny chapter. I do feel sorry for Diamond but it looks as if she has the Took sisters in her corner now and so I am guessing she will be fine. LOL

Author's reply

Thank you, GW :) I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and enjoyed the humor. Oh yes! You want the Took Sisters on your side in any battle :) :)

EstellaB · 5 May 2006 · Chapter 999999: Author's Notes

I just wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying this rewrite! I liked the little bit with Pippin and Merry arguing in the cupboard. V. funny. V. hobbitty.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, EstellaB :) I'm glad the new bits are fitting in well. Thank you for reading and responding :)

Elven_princess · 4 May 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Festival Ball

WOW!!! I LOVE THIS STORY!!! Its so cute!! It's romantic but funny!! Wow, the dress sounded beautiful!! You are an amazing author!! Hurry up and post the rest of the story!! You inspired me to write a Pippin/Diamond story!! Thanks for sharing!

Author's reply

Thank you, Elven_princess :) Your enthusiasm is encouraging! Thank you for all the kind words :)

Bodkin · 4 May 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Festival Ball

It's a sad shame that Diamond's memory of that ball, where she first danced with Pippin, will be ruined by the recollection of Persimmone's treachery and her subsequent behaviour. Not to mention hearing later of the Took sisters' suitable, but very public, vengeance. She will be squirming. On the other hand, the Three Sisters have certainly shown which of the two girls has their approval. And Sam and Rosie will be mad as fire with the Bolger lass. And Pippin's protectionism has just been ratched up another couple of dozen notches. Still. She'll probably be too embarrassed to enjoy Persimmone's humiliation properly - and she'll never be able to enjoy that dress properly...

Author's reply

I don't know that I've thought too much about how much might ruin Diamond's memories of that night. There always seems to be a lot that I don't think of that readers do. We'll have to see what you think of how it all pans out. :) Yes, the sisters know a nasty bit of goods when they see it ;) And it is one more thing showing Pippin (and Merry) that Diamond is a different sort of lass. Thank you so much for reading this and responding, Bodkin! It really means a lot to me :)

PIppinfan1988 · 26 April 2006 · Chapter 8: A Festive Day

Goodness gracious...her she comes, lol! Sour Persimmone. I nearly forgot about her...can't wait for what comes later. ;-) The banter and playfulness at the fair was excellent, Pearl! I thought the children's Candy-Grab was brilliant, too! :-) Diamond's dress sounds so beautiful--and the ruby and diamond necklace! Just lovely! Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 25 April 2006 · Chapter 8: A Festive Day

Another wonderful chapter! Diamond's dress sounds amazing and I could just imagine the way she and Pippin looked together. Lovely image!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, GW :) I just thought, when I first wrote this, that it would be neat to have her look as distinctive as he would and that it would be a good balm to her old fears about her dresses.

Bodkin · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 8: A Festive Day

Persimmone Bolger = gormless bimbette. But spiteful. And focused. She is of the opinion that only she deserves social eminence. Diamond isn't all that secure - I'm sure that she will find said Persimmone difficult to deal with. Fortunately Pippin is tired of being seen as a rung on her ladder - and he's seen worse things than an ambitious hobbit lass. He might need the help of Rosie or Estella, though - he can't stick his sword in this enemy.

Author's reply

Oh yes, Persimmone is focused if nothing else. No, a pity in a way, he can't run her through. Can't even deck her. But he does have a good support system ;) Glad you're sticking with this, Bodkin :) Thank you!

Bodkin · 18 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Festival Bound

I don't blame Merry for being a bit suspicious - but he should look at the facts before jumping to conclusions. Although if Pippin doesn't realise that that gown and that necklace isn't going to make a statement, he is rather naive. I like Diamond and Rosie. Perhaps Merry needs to realise that a lass who can make friends with Rosie is the right sort of lass. I can't see Rosie having any time at all for the strumpets trying to trap Pippin at the beginning. Looking forward to more.

Author's reply

There are those times that he acts a bit like Pippin and this is one of them. But he took the lad at his word regarding new lasses so it threw him a bit. Yes, as Merry finally starts to bring into the equation, Rosie likes Diamond and that's a good sign. No, Rosie would not tolerate the strumpets ;) Thank you, Bodkin, for reading this and for the insightful responses!

Grey Wonderer · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Festival Bound

I love Merry in this chapter. So protective and so very the older cousin watching over things! The closet conversation was priceless! I also love Diamond and how innocent and sweet she is. This was lovely. Happy, happy, happy. More please? (Greedy, aren't I?)

Author's reply

hehehe yes, you are ;) I'm striving to keep some chapters between "chapters in waiting" and the ones I'm working on so I don't when I'll post next. I'm already a bit closer than I usually like to be as I've just posted #7 and have only revised up to what is now #11. Hopefully soon though! I'm glad you liked that scene! That is thanks to my editor, Dreamflower :) She has pointed out all sorts of interesting things that I neglected in the original version - like Merry! Thank you for reading along and leaving responses, GW!
