But in time as she wrapped her spirit around mine
And spread her light around my darkness
What an utterly lovely piece of writing. You swept me away into the joy of Frodo's healing, and Celebrian's part in it.
Author's reply
Le hannon, my dear! So glad you enjoyed it! I do hope it was something like this. :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :) *hugs you and Celebrian for any part she played*

So difficult, trying to hold onto himself.
Author's reply
I'm so glad you reviewed, my dear Larner! I was afraid this little bunny was too strange for anyone to comment on. It was such a dark AU too, what if they had made it to the Fire but the Ring was not destroyed? Sam knew they had to stay in Mordor until it could be but his poor master was now mad because Gollum had tried to force it from him and that was too much for Frodo to bear as he already knew it would be. So dark but love ever there too - light in the black night.

We know Frodo experienced prescient dreams--and we know this one came true. Poignant.

It's an ache to know that but I wanted to explore a little of it. He was and is a very interesting, gifted, and blessed hobbit.

Very cleverly done Antane. This gave me a lovely gentle laugh. Great use of the title.
Author's reply
Hantanyel, my dear! Wonderful to get another review from you and glad I was able to provide some entertainment. :) When I saw the title I couldn't resist extending the argument these two love to have. I love imagining their reaction when they wake up and see themselves even more covered than they were when they went to sleep!

Of course! But try to tell that to those stubborn hobbits... Imagine what their reaction will be when they wake and see themselves covered in even more purple. :) :)

It must have been wonderful for Sam, even in the midst of the depression and grief that is a part of losing someone you love more deeply than any other, to know that there was a place to go and heal in the company of his dearest of dear friends.
Oh, I really have to stop now, or I'll make us late for the next bus out of heere...to wherever it is we're going...;) But even though I'm happy and excited about going out to have fun for an evening, a part of me wishes I could just sit right here and read!
Author's reply
Well, maybe you can give into that part soon and just wallow in all you missed and I can wallow in the joy that you are back and are enjoying! *hugs and more hugs*

Aww!
I've heard/read the Ring and its destruction compared to a rape of Frodo - in fact, I remember you making such comparisons many times. But I don't think I really understood that until now. Yes, it would be like nothing so much as that. Your portrayal is chilling, but lovely of the forgiving love that at least begins the healing process right there at the mountain.
Author's reply
Being a mistress of angst, speaking to another mistress (or at least former mistress and perhaps once and future one?) I thank you for enjoying if such would the right word here. :)

· Chapter 35: Flames
I love this. You wrote the dream very well - I always have to think about those when I write them and usually freak myself out haha! :) I love the way you wove it into the rest of the story in a poetic way, and, even though this might sound strange, I love that you ended with the hope of healing rather than the healing itself. It kept the tone of the whole piece true. Of course, I loved the little scene with Frodo and Sam. :)
I have a busy evening; my roommate/one of my best friends and I are going out a little belatedly, at her insistence, for my birthday. But I've decided that I'll start catching up by working backward through these until chapter 16, which is the last one I seem to have read. After that, you'll have to direct me, because I've been out of it for so long! Can't wait for your e-mail! :D
Author's reply
So glad you enjoyed this one, ammelda! I wrote this in the living room while hanging out with my nieces and nephews this summer and really enjoyed writing it. These challenges are fun to write. :)

· Chapter 35: Flames
I've seen this before, but it was like reading it for the first time. One of your best ever. The metaphor of the sword and the idea of Narsil being useful even in its brokenness works wonderfully well. And the line Just so, and it will be the West that will smother the flame of the East that still burns within you. Well, that is genius!
Great work!

Excellent and complex portrayal of Frodo at the Fire.
I was surprised that you joined Frodo and Sauron in the first person plural -- then impressed at the insight.
Again: this is really, really good.
A small typo: "a gentle hand takes me own" should surely be "my own"?
Author's reply
Oh, those pesky typos, I agree it should be my, Sam would say me perhaps but not Frodo. But many thanks for enjoying nonetheless! I was rather afraid of this since Tolkien said Frodo likely had no memories of this time (I assume due to the intensity of the terrible rape) so how could I do an accurate job but I was listening to the BBC adaptation and thought it would fit in that version at least and the poem that inspired it. I'm glad you liked the surprising insight for perhaps this is indeed what it felt like, awful as it must have felt.
