· Chapter 22: Just Looking
Aww. Perfect comfort-fic for a sickday.
I love the descriptions, and I can clearly see and hear what's happening.
This made me smile.
Suddenly, he had the feeling that this one was always going to be looking for stories
Author's reply
Aw, I'm glad it gave you a bit of comfort--I hope you are feeling better today.

· Chapter 10: A Premature Celebration
I'm glad that was premature. Poor Hobbits, but valiant in the end.
Author's reply
Yes, those brutes were too full of themselves to realize they wouldn't have it all their way in the Shire!

· Chapter 9: The Courtship of Merry and Estella
Awww! Yes, I remember this song from your AU. I love it!
Author's reply
*grin* It was fun to write!

· Chapter 8: Kindling Courage (the Finding Courage Remix)
I love your remix. Dear Gandalf! He was so testy with Pippin during some of that time, but of course he still cares deeply for him.
Author's reply
Yes, I think his gruffness was just a part of his "persona" so to speak. But I am sure the hobbits knew he loved them, especially Pippin.

· Chapter 7: On the Banks of the Brandywine (Berilac's Song)
Awww! I can't remember if I read this or not, but it's so sweet! I especially love the final verse...it just is the very essence of coziness!
Author's reply
It appeared in "Road to Edoras", hence the subtitle! I am glad you think it cozy!

· Chapter 11: Bounty
Ah! I just love this! It reminds me of when I was little and my grandmother taught me to identify all kinds of flowers by touch and smell. And I love how it comes full circle in the end!
I didn't know that about Queen Anne's lace, how cool!
Author's reply
Learning how to identify edible plants would be so important for hobbits to know, I'd think!
Yes, it's quite true! And the earliest carrots were either white or red, not orange!

· Chapter 12: A Decent and Respectable Hobbit
Wow, these drabbles have reminded me how very much I've missed reading your work. It's never worth it to get too busy for treasures like these.
You've brought Drogo to life here...I'll always think of him this way now.
Author's reply
Thank you very much, dear! I have missed having your insight!
I'm glad you like Drogo as I pictured him--he seems to me to be very underutilized!

· Chapter 22: Just Looking
Sweet and loving - love the kiss to make it all better and the hug and the "I was looking for stories." A hobbit after my own heart! :) *hugs them both*
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Yes, I just love Frodo taking care of little Pippin! And "kiss it all better" I think must be common to many cultures!

· Chapter 13: Old Man Willow
"Snick."
*cold chills*
You have an incredible mastery of this form of poetry and how to make it arouse exactly the feelings you're aiming for.
Author's reply
I really love the dribble form of poetry. The narrowing to that one last word means it needs to be memorable and climactic. I'm glad it gave you chills--that's what I was aiming for.

· Chapter 14: Black Breath in Bree
The foreshadowing in this is what makes it scary, because we know he will feel it again...but again it will be overcome.
Author's reply
Yes, it will indeed be overcome. But it had to feel horrid at the time!

· Chapter 15: The Rumour of Him
That always struck me as particularly horrible, Gollum stealing babies from cradles to...well. Now I'm really creeped out. Something tells me that poor mother spoke too soon.
Author's reply
Gollum really *was* a nasty little cannibalistic monster--too many writiers forget that and try to make us feel sorry for him.

· Chapter 16: A Stumble in the Dead Marshes

I'd think it would, you know!

· Chapter 17: Older and Fouler Things
Reaction between the evil thing in the lake and the Ring...scary!
Author's reply
Well, Gandalf said evil would be drawn to the Ring, even if there was no connection to its Master. Very scary!

· Chapter 18: Bound
You have a knack for picking out the bits no one else has thought of -- or maybe they have, I just haven't read them, but in any case...this is brilliant, you really captured Frodo's desperation here.
Author's reply
I don't think I've ever seen it from anyone else, though I'm sure that *someone* else has thought of it!
Yes, he must have been truly desperate, thinking all was lost!

· Chapter 20: Berilac Brandybuck Meets the Ents
But I don’t think I shall accept any drinks from them.
LOL! So he's perfectly happy with his own size, is he? Wonder what Merry and Pippin would have done if they'd known the effects the Ent drafts would have.
Author's reply
I think so. He's quite content with his own height.
As for Merry and Pip, I think at that point, they'd have accepted anything, poor dears, after getting away from those horrid Orcs!

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
Wow, I don't think I've ever read a "tower" story like this. I'm glad you dramatized this part from Frodo's POV, because so much of the time all the focus is on Sam because his is the part of the story we know.
Love it!
Author's reply
Oh how cool that you are back and catching up with things!
I like to do POV gapfillers, showing things through the eyes we missed!

· Chapter 22: Just Looking
Awww!
Haha, just looking. I can remember being told that at the equivalent of Pippin's age.
This is so sweet - now I want to hear the rest of the story myself! :D
Author's reply
There are lots of "Tip and Tulip" stories in my Shire. But so far, I've only told two of them in full, in "The Snow Hobbit" and in "Rainy Day at Whitwell". (The first is in "Shire Yule" and the second is in "Dreamflower's Mathoms II)
I'm glad you liked it!

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
Poor Frodo! (hugs him) I wish I could say it will get better for him, but it won't until he leaves Middle-earth.
Author's reply
Well, at least it will temporarily get better when Sam rescues him!
Poor Frodo, all of these experiences left their mark on him.

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
Poor Frodo, what a terrible time it had to be to lie at the top of this tower and to believe that all was lost! And then, what a relief to find Sam there to free him! Quite the emotional rollercoaster.
Author's reply
I know, it had to be just dreadful! He had to be in complete despair, and agonizing over the idea that he is now Sauron's captive.
And then Sam shows up.

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
The torment of not knowing where the Ring was, both as a result of Its growing effects in his mind, will, and heart and for fear of what will become of all of Middle Earth if It returns to Its Master, must have been almost more than Frodo could bear, once he awoke!
A wonderful gapfiller!
Author's reply
Yes, all he could know was that he did not have it--and he must have believed that Sam had been captured or killed as well. It would not have even occurred to him that Sam could have taken the Ring to keep it safe and hidden away.
And it seemed to me that it would have been easy for Frodo to think he might die on the Quest, but that he would find himself a captive would not have been something he could manage to make himself contemplate.
I'm glad you liked it.

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
The last thing he heard before he had lost all awareness was Sam weeping.
That must be the worst imaginable situation: lying there, unable to move, robbed of all your senses except for listening - and hearing your best friend cry!
Now I can understand Frodo's wonder even better when the orc turned into Sam. And Sam was carrying The Ring. Their mission could still be accomplished!
Author's reply
Yes, Frodo's hearing was the last thing to go...it must have been truly dreadful, especially when he could not even plead with Sam to leave him and save himself.
It had to be the worst moment of all, for Frodo to realize that the Ring was gone, and to believe that all was gone and lost forever.

· Chapter 21: In Darkness Buried Deep
A terrible time for both of them, very well titled. I've wondered before whether Frodo was at all aware of Sam's grief in the spider's lair. But the light is soon to return for Sam is near!
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
In one of my spooky dribbles, I indicated that hearing was the last of Frodo's senses to go after his paralysis by the spider venom, so he was indeed aware of Sam agonizing over him!
Yes, Sam is very near indeed!

· Chapter 20: Berilac Brandybuck Meets the Ents
It's not so easy to believe all these stories about odd creatures, isn't it? I'm not sure I'd believed it myself. One has to see them with his own eyes first.
So Beri doesn't want to outgrow Merry and Pippin? *grin*
Oh, btw, is there any chance that you are updating 'The Road to Edoras' any time soon?
Author's reply
No, he'd rather not need a new wardrobe, thank you very much! LOL!
There is every good chance that I will get back to R2E. Over the next few weeks, I am going to make a concerted effort to make my characters stop skipping ahead to Minas Tirith, and finish their business in Edoras first!
