Oh, these are just WONDERFUL!! I think I've told you before how much I admire your talent for songwriting, and now I'm even more impressed!! These are so perfectly hobbity, and so full of Yule spirit. Reading them conjures up all sorts of hobbity scenes in my mind and I'll definitely be adding this to my favourites :D Thank you!

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I don't know how impressive they are, but I *am* glad that they come across as "hobbity", for that is the most important thing!

In addition to your lovely gift of writing spellbinding tales is that you're a wonderfully talented poet, too! I loved these! The second tune, O Come, O come Emmanuel is one of my favorites--I can clearly see families of hobbits gathered round the hearth burning the Yule log while singing these delightful songs. Most excellent! :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

I'm so glad you liked them! I thought that hobbits would be likely to have a good many traditional songs for Yule. Look for both of these in my Challenge 24 story when it comes up!

Lindelea · 15 December 2005 · Chapter 3: Two Yuletide Carols of the Shire

Well, got a tune for the second, at least. Don't know yet about the first. It is a three-part round, as you imagined, but the voices are offset by one line rather than two. Will send you a raw midi file ("piano") and if you like it, I'll instrumentalize it and you can post it on the web and link to it, if you like. And a Merry Christmas to you!

Author's reply

*squee!* That is *so* cool!! *going to find it now!!*

Larner · 28 November 2005 · Chapter 2: 25 Rethe, S.R. 1422: The Three Travellers Remember

And that is a horrible thing, but only to be expected, I suppose. The prophet and savior are each often least honored in his own land.

Author's reply

Absolutely true; and it's what JRRT intended to show all along. I think how much the lack of honor for Frodo must have pained those who loved him and knew what he went through.

harrowcat · 28 November 2005 · Chapter 2: 25 Rethe, S.R. 1422: The Three Travellers Remember

This is great and ingenious, Dreamflower. What a poignant ending!

Author's reply

Thank you. It's always pained me that Frodo got so little honor among his own people.

Lindelea · 28 November 2005 · Chapter 2: 25 Rethe, S.R. 1422: The Three Travellers Remember

Elegantly done! The contrast between Men and Hobbits is very strong here, and framing each dribble in the word "Remember" is effective.

Author's reply

Thank you; I'm glad you find it "elegant". I really wanted the second one to be a sort of reversed reflection of the first.

Andrea · 28 November 2005 · Chapter 2: 25 Rethe, S.R. 1422: The Three Travellers Remember

Wow! This is expertly done! From the lands of men, where the destruction of the Ring is celebrated as the beginning of a new age, straight to the Shire, where only the three travellers really know what was accomplished and what was lost! It's like looking into a mirror. It reflects the object in front of it, but left and right have changed. "In the world of Men it’s called the New Reckoning". "In the Shire it’s just another fine day in spring." Really great :)

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I like the comparison of looking into a mirror, as I did want the second dribble to be a reverse image of the first! A very insightful review, thank you again!

Larner · 13 November 2005 · Chapter 1: The Last of the Nine Remember

Yes-- They remember Remember the love Remember the quiet loss Share with one another tonight.

Author's reply

They do. *sigh*

Lindelea · 13 November 2005 · Chapter 1: The Last of the Nine Remember

Well done! You draw a clearly-rendered picture in just a few words, especially considering the restraints you are labouring under.

Author's reply

Thank you! I have been wanting to try my hand at a dribble, ever since Shirebound first posted one in her LJ. It is somewhat harder than a drabble.

harrowcat · 13 November 2005 · Chapter 1: The Last of the Nine Remember

This is fantastic Dreamflower. So much said in so few words!

Author's reply

Thank you.

Armariel · 12 November 2005 · Chapter 1: The Last of the Nine Remember

ahhh sweet! Very nice, evocative dribble-poem.

Author's reply

Thank you. This is my first attempt at the form. I don't think it will be my last.

daw the minstrel · 12 November 2005 · Chapter 1: The Last of the Nine Remember

Oh, I like this! These five in front of the fire, remembering when they did great deeds that changed the world around them. But really talking just about them now, as friends.

Author's reply

Thank you. I am quite sure the Three Hunters spent as much time as possible with Merry and Pippin when they retired to Minas Tirith.
