· Chapter 44: Dream a Little Dream of Me
How beautiful and a very good example that IF reason and love keep company the result is a very special relationship and a strong and lasting bond!
Author's reply
What a lovely way to put it!

· Chapter 43: Sestina for Pippin
The wise fool and the fool of a wizard together kept the hope alight
that the darkness might, just might, be pushed back by clinging to the fight!
I stand in admiration for what you've written. One day I might just try a sestina, although I doubt I shall ever do as well as you have here.

· Chapter 44: Dream a Little Dream of Me
I'm so glad they overcame the objections of their siblings and their own pride to marry in spite of everyone else! Glad to see Bilbo's parents accepting that what drew them together was greater than what appeared to divide them!
Author's reply
Yes, I can't see their path being an easy one, but in the end they knew they were meant for one another.

· Chapter 12: A Decent and Respectable Hobbit
Oh wow! Just flipping around the site and reading things randomly. I opened this collection and decided to try this one out of the list. I am bawling my eyes out! This is incredibly powerfully well done. I loved it. I especially like Drogo asking permission to court her, the image of little clothes hopefully made but not used, Frodo at the funeral and the stone in the last one. Just wow!
Author's reply
Thank you! It is always pleasant to read a new review for something that's been up a while! I have a very soft spot for this particular series myself-- there is so very little about Drogo out there, and I am sure he must have been a wonderful hobbit to have fathered a son like Frodo!

· Chapter 42: No Regrets
Yay, Merry! And a great decision it was. Excellent piece, Dreamflower; summoning up Merry's essence, the differences between himself and Pippin; and that magnificent moment on the Pelennor.
Author's reply
Thank you very much! That was indeed such a magnificent moment, when he decided that he would prevent a great unfairness, even if it cost him his own life.

· Chapter 42: No Regrets
Wow! This is just perfect!
Merry's impetuous action saved Eowyn's life and made them both heroes. There is really nothing to regret.
Author's reply
Of course there's nothing to regret, and Merry wouldn't. But I think perhaps he still wonders within himself, in surprise that he did it. Those of us who "know" him, of course, are not in the least surprised, for we know how gallant and brave he was all along!

I'm so glad to see this posted here at last. Yes, once he was impetuous, and it worked to the good of all! I still love this so!

I was so busy with the B2MEM fics, that I completely forgot to add this one from the monthly challenges! I'm glad you still enjoy it-- it's brief, but I think it's Merry.

· Chapter 41: Knowing
No, he didn't sleep by her, for his heart needed even more healing than that. Sea-longing in a Hobbit born and bred in the soil of the Shire as was true of Sam must have seemed such an outlandish idea to all of those who loved him--save for Elanor herself.
Author's reply
I think perhaps his oldest son might have understood as well, though I do not know that. But very few would.
His heart would find the same healing his dearest friend found when he arrived in the West.

Oh, but I do love this image of Strider caring for Frodo! Yes, these arms can help protect those now weakened to helplessness.

Yes, I could just see this. He'd definitely be protecting as much as he could.

It is a sight to stir the heart even of the most land-bound of Hobbits. But at least he knows that Frodo now travels towards that hope!

· Chapter 38: Pippin and the Sea
Even in this time of grief Pippin would be the one to make the most of the experience. Lovely description.
Author's reply
I agree. The thing is, while he's going to be every bit as grieving as the other two, I see him as not knocked quite as flat by it. To my mind, I believe that he believes Frodo will heal and find new adventure where he's going. The Tookishness in them both, I guess, while for Sam and Merry, they hope he will heal, but they think more of what Frodo is losing and leaving behind.
But he's still going to miss Frodo forever...

· Chapter 41: Knowing
I like your description of Sam here, because it honors Rosie's memory. (I think some authors think of Rosie and her long, shared life with Sam as a mere footnote before Sam sails.) I always enjoy stories with Sam/Elanor interaction after Rosie's death. It must have been so hard for Elanor and the other children when Sam left, even though they would know he was going to a good place. And hard for Sam, too.
Author's reply
(I think some authors think of Rosie and her long, shared life with Sam as a mere footnote before Sam sails.)
I know what you mean. Some would prefer to think Sam could never love anyone as much as he loved Frodo.
Sam and Rose were married for 60 years, and they had 13 children. We know that Rose waited for Sam, and that she knew he'd return to her. I think they were just as much in love as Aragorn and Arwen. And while Sam did sail, to receive a solace and a healing he couldn't find in the Shire, he would never have left Rose to do so. Of course he'd grieve for her, and grieve hard.
And I think that Sam's leaving was indeed hard for his children and Sam as well. It was no easier for him to leave the Shire behind than it was for Frodo when Frodo left; and it was no easier for his friends and family to have him go than it had been for him to have Frodo go so many years before.

· Chapter 41: Knowing
I assume that Elanor knew from the Red Book (and maybe from her father, too) that Sam was allowed to sail to Tol Eressea when he chose to.
“You will not sleep beside her though,” she said with certainty.
By saying this she gave him leave to go (my interpretation)! It must have been hard for her to do so, but better than seeing him fading away.
Drabbles are always fascinating. So much said with so few words!
Author's reply
I do think that Elanor, and possibly Frodo-lad, did know of the offer to Sam. I'm not so sure that the younger ones did.
And you are right, that was just my intention!
I like the challenge of drabbles and other fixed-length-ficlet forms!

Poor Frodo. You Authors do put him through a lot! *grin* Long may it last.

· Chapter 37: Respect
I just loved this, a wonderful scene for Frodo and Aragorn.
Author's reply
Thank you! I think it would have been on Frodo's mind, once he discovered Aragorn's identity, that they had not been very respectful of him at first. He'd want to apologize; but I know that Aragorn would have understood.

I love the idea that Strider doesn't speak of Bilbo outside the Valley for his safety. The boot is on the other foot. Loved all this.

I am sure that there must have been some such reason for his not saying anything, when a mention of Bilbo would have instantly made Frodo and the others trust him!

I have heard it said that if mothers remembered the pains of giving birth they would never do it again. I am sure that the joy that was Pippin outweighed all the affort. Great Dreamflower.

· Chapter 38: Pippin and the Sea
Oh, I loved that they saw Gil-Estel! What a neat touch! And I like Pippin's wondering how long the journey would take.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I thought that the mention of Earendil would convey Pippin's own innate hopefulness, even in this time of grieving.
And naturally, he'd wonder how long it would take for Frodo to arrive!
