Larner · 17 June 2013 · Chapter 56: A Father's Fears

The realization that Pippin was caught beneath such a heavy weight must have been terrible indeed! I am so glad that the premonition proved to have mislead Paladin in the end, and that his son returned to him bigger and better than before, one who had learned to lead as well as to follow, one who knew what he could do to return freedom to his own. Lovely series!

Author's reply

This idea came to me as I began to write these drabbles. Since my Shire 'verse got it's start with Lulleny's story "The Prodigal Took" and she had indicated that Paladin had declared Pippin dead rather sooner than I would have expected, I've always wondered what made him so sure his son had died--if he'd had a brief vision of Pippin at that moment under the troll when Pippin himself thought he was dead, that would account for it! It just suddenly hit me, and I realized I'd found the answer!

Antane · 24 April 2013 · Chapter 55: Not All Who Wander Are Lost: The Grey Pilgrim

Never thought how those words apply so aptly to Gandalf too. Very nice, loving tribute to him! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

They apply to Gandalf--and to several other characters in M-e when you think about it!

Lindelea · 19 April 2013 · Chapter 55: Not All Who Wander Are Lost: The Grey Pilgrim

Very well done! Well chosen words, impeccable form. (I taught a class on sonnet writing last year at our high school co-op -- I wish I'd had this then as one of my samples to encourage the students! Many of them were LOTR fans.)

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I enjoy working with set forms like sonnets or sestinas. I wish I'd had time to do more.

Larner · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 55: Not All Who Wander Are Lost: The Grey Pilgrim

Oh, but how perfect for our Gandalf! Lovely!

Author's reply

Thank you! It occurred to me that "Not all who wander are lost" could easily apply to any number of characters in LotR. I hope to eventually add to this one, but rand out of time for the challenge.

Larner · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 54: Fellowship Clerihews

Oh, but I needed the laughs! Thanks for giving them! Heh!

Author's reply

Thanks! I'm glad I made you laugh!

Antane · 18 April 2013 · Chapter 54: Fellowship Clerihews

Cute! I enjoyed these! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you! I hope they gave you a chuckle.

lbilover · 15 April 2013 · Chapter 53: The Gift of Friendship

Oh man, this hit my heart. Poor Legolas, to see his dear friends die one by one. I cannot even imagine what he suffered when Gimli died. I don't think I've ever read a better description of the difference between Elves and mortals than this: they were united in grief, and yet divided by it as well.

Author's reply

It had to be horrible for him. And yet he never tried to shut his mortal friends out of his heart: he loved them all, even knowing that he would lose them, and in his eyes, lose them all too soon. The loss of Gimli must have been crushing when it happened. I hope that Gandalf/Olorin was at his side at the time, and hopefully the Lady Galadriel as well. Thank you for the lovely review!

Larner · 15 April 2013 · Chapter 53: The Gift of Friendship

How true those final words. At least when the time to lose Gimli, too, comes Legolas will be where his healing will most likely come most easily. Truly poignant, Dreamflower!

Author's reply

Yes. I can't imagine that he'd even have had the heart to sail if he'd stayed in Middle-earth until Gimli's end. Poor Legolas! He was so brave, choosing to make friends with mortals!

Larner · 15 April 2013 · Chapter 52: Tra-la-la-lally! Come Back to the Valley!

So much of his adventure seems tied to here, the one place he probably felt truly safe and able to satisfy his curiosity throughout the whole of his adventure. And Elrond will be doubly glad when time brings Frodo there afterwards, seeing what promise Bilbo was able to prepare for that day.

Author's reply

Yes, Rivendell has so much significance for those who were on the side of the Light--over the centuries, Elrond had made it a haven of peace and respite, which reached it's climax when Frodo arrived.

Larner · 15 April 2013 · Chapter 51: Setting Goals

Except that his idea of a fitting memorial was to wipe all memory of the joy of that party out of the minds of all rather than leaving something that other Hobbits would wish to visit in order to honor him. Silly, self-centered fool!

Author's reply

Well, that's because Lotho has a spiteful nature, and he'd rather sow dismay rather than plant joy for others. He is silly and self-centered, and he will reap what he has sown.

Larner · 15 April 2013 · Chapter 50: Mandatory Overtime

Reading this again and laughing still! Poor Grekh, not that he didn't deserve what he got. But Beechbone is going to have to foul some stream to get his foot clean now!

Author's reply

I know. Poor Grekh, I feel as sorry for him as I can, which is "not much", but still it's kind of an awful fate. And poor Beechbone--yuck! Orc parts all over his foot!

Antane · 14 April 2013 · Chapter 49: From Dark to Light

strong was the arm of a warrior, and gentle was the hand of healing. Love that! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you dear!

Antane · 13 April 2013 · Chapter 53: The Gift of Friendship

I love Gimli's words about belief. Poor Legolas - that would indeed be a burden. Perhaps it is a reason he went West, so that he would suffer anymore losses, except one and that perhaps the worst. Namariie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Well, the Sea-longing was mainly why he went West, but I wouldn't doubt that grief also played a part. His parting with Gimli would certainly have been the worst--but at least he would have Gandalf/Mithrandir/Olorin to be with him.

Antane · 13 April 2013 · Chapter 52: Tra-la-la-lally! Come Back to the Valley!

I would have loved to stay here myself. Bilbo is one lucky hobbit in more ways than one! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Yes, The Last Homely House has such a lovely sound to it!

Virtuella · 12 April 2013 · Chapter 50: Mandatory Overtime

Ah, makes me feel sorry for the poor ork!

Author's reply

Yes, Grekh just can't seem to win for losing. I think there were not too many good job opportunities for Orcs!

shirebound · 9 April 2013 · Chapter 53: The Gift of Friendship

This is such a poignant, beautifully written conversation. *sniff*

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! *hands you a virtual hankie*

Lindelea · 9 April 2013 · Chapter 53: The Gift of Friendship

Alas, poor Legolas! Gimli is so very wise. An excellent explanation, and comforting to contemplate. Thanks.

Author's reply

It is wise of Gimli, and hopefully he was at least of some comfort to his friend. I always thought Legolas was extraordinarily brave to give his heart and his friendship to mortals, when he knew the kind of grief he would be giving himself.

Lindelea · 9 April 2013 · Chapter 52: Tra-la-la-lally! Come Back to the Valley!

You know, it really is extraordinary that Bilbo ended up in Rivendell. I never really thought about it before. (such a retirement plan. I only wish...)

Author's reply

I've always thought that Elrond was very glad to welcome him there as one of its inhabitants!

Lindelea · 7 April 2013 · Chapter 51: Setting Goals

Whoa. Chilling. I signed in today to re-visit StarFire, but SoA wouldn't let me. Now I'm glad! :::off to read more Dreamflower postings:::

Author's reply

Lotho has no idea where the path he's setting forth on will lead him. Hope you can get into StarFire!

Lindelea · 7 April 2013 · Chapter 50: Mandatory Overtime

Dark humour, indeed! Beechbone reminds me of my reaction to stepping on a slug... or dog waste. One less orc to worry about. I'd almost feel sorry for him. I would feel sorry for him if he'd been more nervous about being left alone. No, I wouldn't. So I can't say "poor orc"! But I will say, it's so nice to have a few quiet moments and click into SoA and see your stories waiting.

Author's reply

Yes, that sort of disgusted look when you've got something nasty on the bottom of your foot. Well, I feel as sorry as I can for him as an orc, which is "not very much"! Thank you, dear! I'm behind getting some things up over here that I've been writing for challeges, so I hope to put up a few more.

Andrea · 16 March 2013 · Chapter 49: From Dark to Light

Beautiful! I like the word images, too. Especially this one: Now hope is crowned . It is very thought-provoking.

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm glad you liked that part--it was of course a play on his early name of Estel, but meant even more than that!

Lindelea · 15 March 2013 · Chapter 49: From Dark to Light

Beautiful word pictures. I particularly like the ending, and this: strong was the arm of a warrior, and gentle was the hand of healing

Author's reply

Thank you! And thanks for all the lovley reviews today. Been a little down, so they've cheered me immensely!

Lindelea · 15 March 2013 · Chapter 48: A Few MORE Limericks

Reminds me, for some reason, of Frogs. They do sort of jump out at you. "Baggins" and "dragons" makes a wonderful rhyme. There once was a hobbit named Baggins Who had conversations with dragons. He returned to the Shire Where they called him a liar, For they didn't believe all his braggin's! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Author's reply

Oh, I *love* that! It's adorable and perfect!

Lindelea · 15 March 2013 · Chapter 47: Teaching a Lesson

*snicker* Good one, Pippin! Well played. At least *he* didn't lose his head in the heat of battle (in more ways than one!).

Author's reply

Nope, he didn't. Having felled a troll, he's not going to freak out much over a mere fellow guardsman; his only worry was not to harm his foe *too* much!

Lindelea · 15 March 2013 · Chapter 46: HOBBITS

Too true!

Author's reply

8-D Indeed!
