I really enjoyed this piece. Well done!

lovethosehobbits · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 4: PART FOUR

Marvelous story. I love h/c and, of course, angst. Usually I gravitate to stories of Frodo but this was so well written and inspired I felt drawn to it. Good Job! tree

Author's reply

Thank you for such nice words! :D I am glad you like it.

Bodkin · 4 October 2005 · Chapter 4: PART FOUR

I do like Fermund. And that is a lovely stick they've managed to put together for Merry. But the ranger would do much better not to take up the evil weed. How to make yourself popular among the powers-that-be - rescue a hobbit or two. I think Fermund prizes Merry's friendship above the gifts of kings, though. Good story.

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes I think he values the friendship more than the pipe too. :D I am glad you liked my story. Thanks for reviewing.

Periantari · 3 October 2005 · Chapter 4: PART FOUR

Very sweet ending in which Merry gets this wonderful walking stick from his friends. Fermund is a very cool OFC. =) i really liked this fic and can't wait to read more Merry h/c from you! =)

Author's reply

Thank you. I am glad you like my Fermund. I have waited for a special occasion to give Merry as pecial gift and this was it. You want more Merry h/c from me? Well, most of my stories include that in one way or other. :D

Dreamflower · 3 October 2005 · Chapter 4: PART FOUR

Anso, this is a great conclusion for this tale!! I really love the way you showed Frodo's and Pippin's concern for Merry, and it was good to see it through the eyes of someone new. Fermund's observations were wonderful. And the ending was delightful. I loved the cane, and then Merry going to teach Fermund to smoke. By the time the hobbits head back to the Shire, there will be a whole new group of people who've learned to appreciate pipe-weed! An excellent tale, altogether!

Author's reply

Thank you. I'm glad you like my hobbits and Rangers, lol. I have waited for an opportunity to write about a very special gift for Merry and this was it. He needed it I figured, in all possible meanings of it. :D

shirebound · 3 October 2005 · Chapter 4: PART FOUR

Yay, I love the happy ending, and Merry realizing how many friends (and what respect) he has earned just by being himself. A wonderful story.

Author's reply

Thank you! I am so glad you liked it. Thank you for reviewing! :D

“Let`s see. I know Alasseo at least. It is the first elvish word that Frodo ever taught me.” “What does it mean?” Pippin asked. “It means “merry”,” Merry answered, smiling. Oh Anso, that was a beautiful ending! While reading about Merry's wish to get up as soon as possible, I wondered if he had a walking stick - and there it is: the best gift Fermund could give him! Thank you :)

Author's reply

Thank you. I am so glad you liked it. I thought Merry needed a special gift and this was a very nice opportunity to give him one. :D

What a great ending to a perfect story Anso - I have really enjoyed this and it is going on my favourites list immediately. I had tears in my eyes with Merry. Realising just how much someone loves us can be pretty overwhelming!

Author's reply

Oh, thank you! :D Yes it can be a bit much to realise how much we are loved, but sometimes it is important to see it. Thank you for reading and commenting! :D

Dreamflower · 19 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

Oh, Anso, what a lovely chapter, filled with wonderful Merry h/c, and all the Fellowship working to help him. But I especially loved that it was Frodo who was doing the most here--after all, Pippin had done his part already, and was overcome with exhaustion and his own injuries. Too seldom do we see post-Quest Frodo as the care-giver, but I think that he would certainly be one for his Merry, if he were needed. This was wonderful!

Grey Wonderer · 4 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

This is very good and I liked Merry's talk with Frodo at the end of the chapter. Merry has been very brave throughout all of this and he has fought very hard against the black breath. I will be waiting for more of this one.

Author's reply

Merry is a fighter`and braver than he thinks himself. More is being betaed at the moment so stay tuned. :)

Grey Wonderer · 4 September 2005 · Chapter 2: Part Two: Lost and Found

I am so glad that help arrived when it did. I like that Merry told Pippin how to splint the leg before he passed out. That woul dbe so like Merry to organize things in spite of his injury. I also liked their rescuer's reluctance to believe that Merry could have helped to kill the Witch King and the fact that Pippin was so proud of Merry. Now I hope Aragorn can help.

Author's reply

Thank you. I am glad you liked it. :)

Grey Wonderer · 4 September 2005 · Chapter 1: PART ONE: A Walk In The Woods

Looks like both cousins are in trouble. Poor Merry. I do hope that the snake didn't manage to bite him before he killed it.

Author's reply

Yes they definitely are in some trouble here. :)

Philia · 3 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

Letting you know I like this muchly....your Sam is great. Completely in character... hope to read more soon!

Author's reply

Thank you. I`m glad you like my Sam. I don`t often write him so I`m more than happy that he turns out well when I do. More is being betaed so stay tuned. :)

Philia · 3 September 2005 · Chapter 1: PART ONE: A Walk In The Woods

Heya! It's Legoline from LJ (yup I have a different name everywhere :p) ... stopping to let you know I love this muchly. Merry & Pippin combined with angst and h/c? Perfect :o)

Author's reply

Hi! I`m glad you like it. :)

Periantari · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

I love the last part the best. I love Merry and Frodo camaderie. And for some reason, i love the sick Merry waking up to ask what's happened but still feeling ill somewhat~ Question--did the snake cause the Black Breath to come forth again? Since Aragorn said that the Enemy had many ways still yet to ensnare innocent persons... I love your h/c and can't wait for more! :) awww Merry~! ::huggles him and you::

Author's reply

Thank you. I am glad you like it. And yes, the snake did in a way cause it. But not because it is from the Dark Lands. Merry is not yet fully healed from the stabbing of the Witch King so an accident like this makes it easier for the Black Breath to take hold of him.

Larner · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

A sweet awakening for Merry. Both Merry and Frodo have been through the worst of the Shadow and would have more fellow-feeling, I'd expect.

Author's reply

Yes. They share more than especially Frodo at first think when it comes to this.

melilot hill · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

A wonderful new chapter :-D I really like this story. I promise to be a good webmaster and put these chapters on the website soonish ;-)

Author's reply

Thank you! On both occasions. :)

Bodkin · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

Those snakes don't sound too good. Don't want too many of them around. And poor Merry is going through it at the moment. Between the effects of the Shadow, the broken bones and the infection - he needs all the attention he can get. Still - he has an excellent support network, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Author's reply

Merry has all the love and care he can hope for when something happens to him, but he`s in quite the pickle here. :)

shirebound · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

Ohhh, I just love this story. I *especially* love these passages: And Merry had been exposed to it not once, but three times, and had actually set blade to the foul creature. What terrible darkness must hold his cousin in its icy grip? He couldn`t really remember, but they were all there for him, in their different and equally important ways. Baby cousin, wise peer, and valued friend, all at once. And I really appreciate this passage, and how you show that Merry is doing his part to fight back: Finally Aragorn sensed the Shadow retreating as the hobbit struggled toward Aragorn’s voice and the Light. Wonderful.

Author's reply

Thank you! :)

Andrea · 1 September 2005 · Chapter 3: PART THREE: Healing Hobbits

"And Merry, sweet Merry, practical and dependable, yet in different ways than Sam. Always ready with a shoulder to cry on or with a bit of advice or solution to a problem. Merry, who loved maps and books just as much as Frodo himself and who was a willing and eager student if Frodo had something to teach him. Baby cousin, wise peer, and valued friend, all at once." That's just perfect! I'm really glad that Merry finally woke up! And it's so like him to apologize for all the trouble the others had with him. I hope, there will be no further complications? But after all, the story is not finished yet ;-)

Author's reply

Nope, the story isn`t finished... :) And thank you for such nice words!

Periantari · 1 August 2005 · Chapter 2: Part Two: Lost and Found

aww i love Merry h/c..and i love brave Pippin as well~ i'm glad that they were found and now, all attention could be for healing... both of them. HOpe the Black Breath won't have THAT strong of a hold still. :p good job! i look forward to more. :)

Author's reply

Thanks! I`m glad you like it. :)

Periantari · 1 August 2005 · Chapter 1: PART ONE: A Walk In The Woods

wow what a great story so far! ::hurrying to read more:: I really like the suspense you built when they first encountered the snake onwards... poor Merry and Pippin! i do hope they get found soon and get some nice comfort and healing... ::scared for Merry:: :-0

Author's reply

Thank you! I haven`t written much suspence before but this just came out like that. :)

Andrea · 16 July 2005 · Chapter 2: Part Two: Lost and Found

Great story, Anso! Your description of Merry is just as I see him: Always worried for his cousin and forgetting his own health. And he's always planning ahead. That's something I do myself and I get really nervous when planning is impossible ;-) I loved it, when Frodo felt that something was wrong, just because Merry was not there when he awoke. And Pippin managed the frightening situation very well. Let's hope, Merry will recover soon, last but not least from the Black Breath!

Author's reply

Thanks! Yes Merry would want to watch over Frodo, Sam and Pippin as much as possible, and I think him not being there would worry Frodo.
