Here's my drip! The road is paved with good intentions!
Author's reply
It certainly is... and why are there so many potholes?

Grey Wonderer · 18 December 2006 · Chapter 27: Sam and the Baker's Dozen
LOL How many women do you know that would consider being allowed to have 14 children, being spoiled? I loved that line! Rose and Sam are so sweet and so much in love and such wonderful parents. Now this review is almost longer than a drabble!
Author's reply
LOL! One of the wedding toasts I attribute to hobbits is "a dozen children" so perhaps it's not all that uncommon a perception in the Shire! *g* Thanks!
Grey Wonderer · 18 December 2006 · Chapter 28: Up on the Housetop
Have to review over here too! As you know I am very fond of this drabble and I am so glad that you wrote it. Thanks for the link to "Concerning Ladders" too. Happy Holidays!
Author's reply
Well, thanks for your conscientious feedback! The drabble wouldn't have happened, after all, without the story. Thanks for the lift of spirits, during *two* holiday seasons!
Imhiriel · 10 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Faramir is one of my favourite characters, and I'm very picky about stories with him. I really love this! You have captured his love of lore, but also his dedication to duty, where he does not begrudge the lack of opportunity to pursue his interests, but is fully prepared and willing to do what is needed to protect his people.
Author's reply
Well, then, I'm doubly blessed! (I have trouble reading about Faramir; my brain seems fixated on hobbits. But when I have to write him I go back and steep myself in what JRRT wrote about him, though it wasn't much. I'd like to have seen more of him, which I suppose is a testimonial to the author's skill in bringing the character to life.
Bodkin · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Faramir could probably do with the comfort of an old friend - it can't have been an easy task he had there in Ithilien.
Author's reply
Not at all an easy task, and yet he handled it with grace and balance, I think. Lovely character, would have liked to have seen more of him in the original, even though he served JRRT's purpose in the glimpses we had of him, and more was not strictly necessary to further the plot.
Bodkin · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
Better to be both right than both wrong. And the beer and vittles sound an outcome to hope for.
Author's reply
I know they got vittles at Farmer Maggot's at least. (Mushrooms, yum!) I forget if they got beer or not.
Grey Wonderer · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Lovely. Sometimes I think Faramir and Frodo would have had so much in common, don't you?
Author's reply
You know, I never thought of that before, but it rings true.
harrowcat · 8 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Am glad I got an odd moment to read this.
Author's reply
Am glad you did, too! (and that I got an odd moment to write it)
Dreamflower · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Very nice, and much as I see Faramir! I can *so* identify with your Faramir!
Author's reply
Thanks! Very encouraging to hear.
Larner · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
The stolen moments with a book must be very treasured indeed. Lovely to see a moment of relaxation, at least.
Author's reply
Yes, I seem to be contemplating lovely moments more than angst, lately.
Pearl Took · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
Bravo!!
Author's reply
Thanks!
Pearl Took · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
Well done! It's amazing what you manage to fit into 100 words.
Author's reply
Drabbles are astonishing things, aren't they? I love to read them, it's like unwrapping a very small package wrapped in bright paper and finding a tiny surprise, complete and perfect.
Pearl Took · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Wonderful! I like the progression of thought.
Author's reply
Thanks!
demeter d · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Respite
A rare peaceful moment. For our ideal Numenorean to retain the balance and sanity he did he must have sought as many such moments as he could. A lovely image.
Author's reply
Thank you! Though I was thinking of what Faramir might have been doing, not long before encountering Frodo and Sam, this might have been set at any point of his patrolling Ithilien.
Dreamflower · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
*chuckle* Yes, they *were* both right, and quite diplomatic of Frodo to point it out that way! You know I love the idea of all that must have been going through the heads of those three on that trek across the Shire--love to see it this way! Poor hobbits, they can't *really* talk to one another about what's *truly* on their minds!
Author's reply
Yes, all that "light talk"--I can just see them chivving (is that the right word?) each other over beer, in happier times.
Dreamflower · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
My computer's back!! And how lovely to find these--yes, I can just imagine that it's exactly how Bilbo felt, with grasping Lobelia hovering over his shoulder! Let me second Larner's rec for "Nothing of Note"--I nominated that for a MEFA myself, and have recced it a couple of times; it's a *lovely* Bilbo fic! And she has another here on SoA, a WIP called "Stone of Erebor" in which Bilbo plays detective on his second visit to the Lonely Mountain!
Author's reply
Hurrah! Three cheers! Have put "Nothing of Note" on my "want to read" list. (shouldn't even *be* online at the moment...)
demeter d · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Perhaps the moment he first decided to make it official. Yes, I agree. The vulture image suits our Mistress Lobelia well!
Author's reply
Goodness, you're right, the vulture image is particularly apt! (Perhaps she intends to drive him into his grave, if he won't go peacefully in good time.)
demeter d · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
A peek inside their heads during a tense moment. when the news is bad, of course, I would rather have been wrong!
Author's reply
Yes, very bittersweet, to have been right and wish to have been wrong.
Grey Wonderer · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Get a move on, Bilbo. Lobelia is moving in for the kill. LOL For some reason I could see Lobelia flying around and around over top of Bag End like a vulture in this one!
Author's reply
Yes, and with a measuring stick in hand to see just where her furniture would fit.
Grey Wonderer · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
LOL And so they were!
Author's reply
*g* Thanks!
Larner · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
Great minds do think alike, don't they? Marvelous!
Author's reply
Thanks! (and yes, great minds do think alike, I should think)
Larner · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Here's the link. I read it first at FFN, and suggested she post here, which she now does. A marvelous writer, and you'll love the way Bilbo prepares for expected housebreakers. It is one of the funniest and most appropriate means of dealing with young Lotho and his buddies I've ever seen. http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=3900 And even her chapter titles are marvelous. As for visiting Dwarves, well, you'll see! Enjoy!
Author's reply
Thanks, I have put it on my "want to read" list! (grumble, grumble, no time for fanfic any more this week.)
harrowcat · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Short Cuts Make for Long Delays
Shame they never actually got to that Inn.! *g*
Author's reply
Definitely a shame!
harrowcat · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Well done Lindelea. Bilbo sounds more rattled than that tea-cup! BTW Just a technical question or two I take it that adding hyphens links words and makes them count as one Lindelea-my-dear! *g* And is a review of ten words or less called a 'drip'?
Author's reply
A drip? Now there's a catchy idea! Yes, hyphenated words count as one, and another way to shorten an overlong drabble is to make contractions wherever you can.
Larner · 6 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Laying Plans
Yes, I can certainly understand just how upset Bilbo must have been that day! Hilarious! And so reminiscent of Primsong's "Nothing of Note." Congratulations on the MEFA wins, and particularly the first for "The Healer's Tale." I am applauding, my dear. Don't know now when I'll be able to come down--one of my clients was placed in a nursing home, but it appears she'll be released to go home again tomorrow. She will need someone by her 24/7 for a time. Don't know when she'll be released at the moment. Love to the hubby and the lasses.
Author's reply
Thanks! This was the first I'd heard of the MEFA wins, what a nice bit of news! Well, we'll hope that when you are able to come down, it'll be during good driving weather. *hugs* Author Reply: p.s. got a link for "Nothing of Note"? I hadn't heard of that one before.
