· Chapter 106: Even in the Darkest Moment (Faramir)
I love this one as usual but my favorite part is how you bring out a small similarity between Denethor and Faramir when you mention how they both kind of shut themselves off. It’s a small thing but it shows a family trait they both share and it is so easy when reading scenes from the book to just assume that they were worlds apart but they were father and son and there just had to be something that connected them. Beautifully written as always.
Author's reply
It has been quite a discussion about the similarities and differences of father and son and some have taken the hard road against Denethor and how he behaved in Siege of Gondor while others (like me) think that it is more complicated. I think Denethor had a tough love deal with Faramir but did realize how much he loved him at the end.
Thank you for loving this one! I did rewrite it to make it "better". :)

· Chapter 105: When All Other Lights Go Out (Sam)
At least he prevailed. (In the book it was Frodo who blinded Shelob's eye. Am glad in the movie it still happened.)
Author's reply
In the book Sam blinded Shelob's eye- "Sam sprang in, inside the arches of her legs, and with a quick upthrust of his other hand stabbed at the clustered yes.upon her lowered head. One great eye went dark."
I love the Choices of Master Samwise so much and there is so much room to write more around it. :)

Ah, but to hear the Ring's lies in action! At least Faramir rose above them!

Faramir tends to rise above and beyond and currently my fave character. :)

Oh, well done! You have captured Sam's thoughts beautifully. The Drabble form lends itself to expressing a world of thought in a brevity of words.
Author's reply
Thank you so much! I love the drabble length for you really have to be careful to not go over. This was a good length to portray these thoughts. :)

This is lovely! I adore the idea that Sam and Rosie had "their song". Of course they did.

· Chapter 91: To Love and to Heal You
Thanks to your writing, I really have started to fall in love with these two as a couple. There’s so much more to them than you realize when you first read the books. They really do need one another and they are good for one another. A perfect Romance! GW
Author's reply
Faramir and Eowyn grew on me too! I did not think much of them until my reread of LotR this past year and then i can see how they can help each other recover in the Fourth Age. I became so fannish of them. :) (well you know)

· Chapter 99: False Hope
And yet another very evil character heard from. I always feel a bit sad at this point because I do wonder if he was ever the good wizard that Gandalf believed him to be. I wonder if he was tempted by the Palantir in match the same way that poor Denethor was. I know Denethor was a victim but I’ve never been completely certain about Saruman. Great writing as always! GW
Author's reply
I think Saruman was a victim of his own pride and power hunger. He had turned in mid Third Age i believe to want the Ring for himself and hide what he knew from the White Council. I think he turned evil much earlier than Gandalf and the elves perceived. Thank you so much for leaving me this review!

· Chapter 100: Your Heart's Desire (Drabble series)
I read through these again tonight and wanted to leave you a review here. I think my favorite is still Merry because he is offered the respect that he wants and deserves. I also enjoy Sam’s very much because I can see that being extremely tempting for him. Finally, I do think that Frodo must have been tempted to forget the entire thing because he would’ve been so very tired and so very sad about what had happened to Gandalf and very worried still about leading his friends into danger. These are all excellent! Keep writing the good stuff my friend. GW
Author's reply
Thanks so much! The hobbits were definitely easier to write and the Merry one can very fast in how the Ring would tempt him. I'm glad you thought these were excellent. I really liked writing from the Ring's point of view. :)

· Chapter 101: Alone (Wormtongue)
I enjoy this because it is a look inside the mind of one of the characters that most people don’t write too much about. He’s very dark and you capture that very well here. The way he views her is very uncomfortable to think about but this manages to capture his loneliness and the evil that is it in him all in one drabble. Great writing. GW
Author's reply
It was weird that he would invade my mind. :shudders: It was a good tolkien100 prompt. :) Thank you!

I enjoyed the conversation in this one very much. I love the mutual respect that these two friends have for one another even though at this point they don’t know each other very well. GW
Author's reply
I loved expanding this so much from the EE. I would like more convos between them too! (which my longer fic also has ;) (but even more dialogue would be great like how they kept in touch from the Shire to Gondor.

I like this sharing of views and information between Pippin and Faramir. I hope they will indeed have a longer conversation in the future.
Author's reply
yes, i would like to write more post Quest conversations between them! I think they formulated a great postQuest one since Pippin named his son after him so there is a great deal of respect for the Steward. :)

· Chapter 101: Alone (Wormtongue)
A bit of premature gloating, I see. Grima is not as powerful as he imagines here, and in the end gets the ending he perhaps deserves, there on the steps of bag End. He ought to have opted out of his relationship with Saruman early on.
Author's reply
Yes, he could've found a better path if he had not followed Saruman in his exploits in the Shire. Poor man. I wonder if he was ever redeemable in anything he did? He is an interesting character.

All too likely the arguments that might or were used by the Ring in Its desire to take a new bearer and betray him to Its Master.
Author's reply
Thanks so much! I thought was creepy to hear the Ring but think it could've tempted the Fellowship many times during the Quest. Poor Boromir to have succumbed and listened to it.

· Chapter 95: Extra Ordinary
Sam was the only one who could see to it that Frodo succeeded. His willingness to put Frodo's needs first allowed Frodo to concentrate on put one foot in front of the other. He saw to it that Frodo was kept moving forward when if left to himself the Baggins would have given in to his exhaustion. He kept the Hope for both, realizing Frodo could not hope on his own.
This one really meant a good deal to me.
Author's reply
Sam is the hobbit that has grown the most, in my humble opinion. I was discussing with grey_wonderer and we feel like there are so many layers of Sam and I believe Tolkien likened maybe himself to Sam the most? He is most selfless and always willing to put Frodo first and that is why we love him so much. He really is Harthad Uluthiad. <3 Thank yoU!

· Chapter 93: Undue Influence
And although the Palantiri cannot lie, editing their messages as Sauron did certainly supported the lie that led to Denethor's last decision.
Author's reply
It's a tragic end and there should be fics that talk about the aftermath of this happenstance and not just the King returning, i feel. He was a well-respected steward for a long time. It is sad that he got ensnared by Sauron via palantir.
