OMG. He's in love. Favourite part: "sound of Elven maidens' hearts breaking nearly drowned out the orchestra". <~~~ V. funny.

Hi! This is delightful reading, and a good continuation to the tory "The Green Knight" indeed. But I wonder why suddenly everybody in Middle Earth is so intent on getting poor Legolas married? They know - or at least his closest kin would do - that he is stricken by the sea-longingg and bound to leave soon for the undying lands, and so his rule in Ithilien will be a short time (well, for the elvis count odf time, anyway)only; and also, the Elves, in Tolkiens terms, are of a fading race and therefore unlikely to produce much offspring of this side of the sea. So, why harass the poor elf so in addition to his ailment? Do they *try* to drive him over the Sea sooner? If this goes on, Legolas will have to take the last resort to either banish all unwed elven ladies from his fiefdom unless they swear not to pursue him, or go to Aragorn and beg if his friend does not have some quiet, peacefull battlefield where he could take refuge until things have quitened. Anyway, keep on writing, this is good! Aislynn

Oh boy, she's a freakin' TEENAGER and already has a crush on Legolas from his physical description? *shaking my head* Oh dear... Other than that, she doesn't sound TOO bad... if you ignore the whole spoiled brat sounding facade. LOL *wincing* Crap! What's gonna happen now? MORE please?!?

Joana · 10 August 2004 · Chapter 13

I really like this story and the way it is written. I don't really like reviewing but I thought I should, and so I will from now on. Keep writing! :)

Ms. Whatsit · 10 August 2004 · Chapter 13

Me again. But are you planning to match him with Nardanë? That would be an interesting twist.

Ms. Whatsit · 10 August 2004 · Chapter 13

Uh-oh. This girl is a silly romantic flirt! I anticipate trouble ahead. At least she won't ensnare Legolas, though.

Lamiel · 10 August 2004 · Chapter 13

Whiny little brat, isn't she? Complaining about the food and drink, and flaunting herself about melodramatically for every one to see... mind, I was biased against her from the start, so I guess she really never had a fair chance with me. Oh well. I'm not going to lose sleep over that. Well, the eagle has landed, so they say. Now Legolas just needs to greet her politely and send her packing back to Cirdan. Or better yet, let her fall for some handsome retainer of his who can appreciate her, er, charms better. Let them match up and get her off Legolas' hands. Oh, and by the way, if you're interested there is a group that matches authors with beta readers. I can try to find the address for you. I'd offer to beta myself, if you like, but you're such a prolific author that I fear I'd only slow you down.

Bodkin · 10 August 2004 · Chapter 13

All he needs is a star-struck Noldor Mary-Sue. I'm afraid Laustairë does not sound the right sort of bride for Legolas. In fact Nardanë sounds much more suitable.

Ms. Whatsit · 9 August 2004 · Chapter 12

Oh, no. Aragorn's getting sucked into the matchmaking, too! And Faramir as well! Poor Legolas. All forces are arrayed against him. We'll see how he fares, I guess.

Mirari · 9 August 2004 · Chapter 12

...Oh, honestly - bugger off, Círdan. xD I'm addicted to this story. And I thought I'd better pop in and tell you so!

Author's reply

"Bugger off"? Have you read "Pottymouth" perchance? ;-)

Duchess · 9 August 2004 · Chapter 12

Well now that was an interesting letter. Out and out permission for Aragorn to give his blessing to all to scheme and plan for Legolas and this mystery Elf to fall in love and marry... Legolas would freak out if he knew out and I honestly DO think he'd run away and hide. LOL

Lamiel · 9 August 2004 · Chapter 12

Oh, now that is a low blow. I never expected Cirdan to get Aragorn mixed up in all this matchmaking. Hopefully he will send warning to Legolas, to help him be on his guard when Faramir introduces lady what's-her-name. Not that he really needs it, I guess, given that he knows very well what the intent of this party is. Interesting that Cirdan is so eager to see Sindar and Noldor wed (surely the race isn't Quenyan). It's a nice idea, I guess, but there are lots of Sindarin and Silvan Elves in Ithilien. Legolas doesn't have to unite the races personally. Though I will concede that such a gesture might be appropriate, given that most folks believe that Thranduil married a Silvan elf. His son might follow in his footsteps so far as uniting the varied races goes, but it can wait. Until Valinor, preferably. Long, long after he reaches Valinor and Gimli dies. I'm thinking along the lines of millenia, here.

Author's reply

Ooops! I can't believe I didn't catch that -- don't worry, I've altered "Quenyar" to "Noldor" in the text. Can you tell my stories are posted completely un-betaed? I always think Gimli gets the shaft in Legomances -- poor guy, I'd like to see HIM get the girl for once. Pathetic. Run away, Legolas!

Coriel · 8 August 2004 · Chapter 11

Just now got a chance to come read. Choices, choices! Poor Legolas. I don't expect him to go to such great lengths as to cut his hair short as did St. Cathrine of Sienna in order to discourage suitors, but at least he could tone down his wardrobe a bit. Really enjoyed Thranduil's overall attitude as conveyed through his letter, by the way. Blunt and practical as always. ;)

Ms. Whatsit · 8 August 2004 · Chapter 11

Aww, poor Legolas. Angsty because of his marriage dilemma, angsty because he feels bad for Laustaire, angsty because of the drowned Hobbits... I hope nothing bad has happened to Cirdan's delegation.

Duchess · 8 August 2004 · Chapter 11

Too cute, that last line! He really OUGHT to end their misery and marry Diamond very quickly. ;) *vbg* What a horrible tragedy you wrote about, all those Hobbits dying like that. Almost made me cry, to read Bandobras descriptions of those events. I hope that's the worst thing you have in this story, since you warned us this won't be a happy fic. I'm beginning to have a sneaking suspicion you're also going to have Legolas fall for this chick and then be heartbroken in some way. :( Are you? *curious*

Bodkin · 8 August 2004 · Chapter 11

Don't marry the girl just to please your mother, Legolas! You've just been telling Bandobras the same thing. On the other hand, you are in serious need of family - as seen in your love of all the children around you!

Ms. Whatsit · 7 August 2004 · Chapter 10

Oh, no, the poor Hobbitses! *sigh* I'm getting a bit worried that Bandy's never going to make it to Ithilien :(. I wonder what Gimli's letters to Bandy are like--and what Gimli's reactions to Bandy's letters are like, too! I bet they're funny. "Gold floss on the breeze." *swoon* Yes, I'd miss that sight too.

Lamiel · 7 August 2004 · Chapter 10

Oh, what a pity about those poor hobbits! It's a reminder, I guess, that Middle-earth is not paradise (much as we in our escapist fantasies wish it were) and that even after the War, bad things still happen, even in the Shire. But it is a pity. Loved Bandobras' description of Legolas' hair floating around his face, and the glow of his hands. Mmm. Makes me want to go back and re-read that chapter in Green Knight, when he went swimming. Mmm.

Duchess · 6 August 2004 · Chapter 9

LOL Legolas is obviously so good with children he truly needs to have a few of his own. *vbg* It is quite obvious to me that Bandobras gets the most honest (and plaintive) of missives from his master than any the Elf sends out. *sigh* I look forward to seeing what happens when the visitors come to call. :)

Bodkin · 5 August 2004 · Chapter 9

Legolas - just find your heart's desire, get married and stop fighting. You come over as someone who is in desperate need of elflings. Lots of elflings. Give in to it!

Ms. Whatsit · 5 August 2004 · Chapter 9

Legolas is right--after this girl, it'll be another one, and then another one, ad infinitum. It'll just be a contest of who gets worn down first, Legolas or his parents. It's too bad that Bandy can't come to Ithilien yet. And this meeting with Cirdan and his people seems like it has potential for trouble and wacky marriage-avoidance hijinks.

Lamiel · 5 August 2004 · Chapter 9

I like the image of Legolas playing with that doll house. Hee! And I am relieved that he was just putting off his parents again, with the mastery of a prince trained in diplomacy. And not even those dratted lapels could sway him. Excellent.

Ms. Whatsit · 4 August 2004 · Chapter 8

Legolas the Midwife! LOL. Poor guy. It appears that even Elves have issues with over-fancy clothes that attract too much attention. Maybe this chapter should have been called "Legolas meets the Orlando Bloom fangirls"? I also like the notion of Legolas meddling in Pippin's love affair and pushing him to marry Diamond so that Bandy can come to Ithilien. He's not above playing the match-making game himself, is he.

Elenora · 4 August 2004 · Chapter 8

I must sincerely apologize for not getting a review to you before this...I have been faithfully read this new story of yours, but RL has had a choke hold on me once again and it has been a real struggle getting on the computer. But I just finished chapter 8 today and just had to let you know how very much I am enjoying "My Dear Bandobras"! First off, this is rather an intriguing way to do a story - very novel - and I really been enjoying the interplay back and forth between Legolas, Bandobras, and Legolas's parents that this way of writing magnifies. Your unique use of language in this story (a continuation from "The Green Knight") continues to astonish me and I find myself continually "tickled" by the "turns-of-phrases" and the way things are described. And speaking of being tickled, Legolas's letters, in particular, have really been a hoot and I can well see people dubbing him "Legolas the merry"!! LOL! And this banter back and forth about him finding a wife...this whole thing makes me laugh every time I think on it!! So far, I haven't been able to decide if your warning at the beginning of this story about this story not being a happy one is a serious warning about something "foreboding" coming up, or a facetious one regarding Legolas's "unhappiness" about his lack of a wife! In any case, as in your previous story, the quality of your writing really stands out and I'm enjoying this story immensely. Once I get some extended time on the computer, I'm going to start badgering my friends to get in here and start reading it!! Elenora

Lamiel · 4 August 2004 · Chapter 8

Well, it looks like my prince is still holding his own, so I'll breathe easier about that. Though I've no doubt that he outshone everyone else at those banquets and balls and whatnot - far as I'm concerned, when he showed up in his circlet at the end of ROTK, and then it cut away to Arwen, there was NO comparison. But perhaps I'm biased. And it is nice to know that he's got other things on his mind besides parties and courtship rituals. I was beginning to wonder.
