PIppinfan1988 · 5 February 2006 · Chapter 45: The Importance of Not Being Pippin

ROTFLMBO!!! Oh, my gosh--I would've thought the stuffed pony belonged to Pippin! Poor lad--he's gonna get it anyway, lol. Your Berilac and Fredegar certainly make life interesting for us all, too! This was fantastic! Pippinfan

Author's reply

I figured that with Brandy Hall being so full of hobbits that the pony belongs to some other little child who was playing and left it behind. Pippin will likely get the fall-out since he couldn't keep his mouth shut, but the pony wasn't his. LOL Glad you enjoyed this one!

Andrea · 5 February 2006 · Chapter 45: The Importance of Not Being Pippin

LOL! That was funny! “I’m glad this isn’t mine!” Pippin said It's not Pippin's pony? Now, that's interesting. But after all Pippin said, it's not important any more, for Merry's "outburst" will now be directed at Pippin, I fear ;-)

Author's reply

Yes, I fear Merry will have a thing or two to say to Pippin about this. So glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the review!

harrowcat · 5 February 2006 · Chapter 45: The Importance of Not Being Pippin

*ggg* I was about to comment that you were cheating GW as each was being thankful for something slightly different - and then I got to the last line!!! Poor Merry. And poor Pippin too!

Author's reply

Me? Cheating? LOL Not this time at any rate. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

hanci · 2 February 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Esmeralda is genius.

Author's reply

She is, isn't she? I have always loved Merry's mom. Thanks for reading!

Larner · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Saradoc's only the muscle of the family? I love Merry coming to understand. I can understand his feeling of abandonment.

Author's reply

I think what Saradoc was, was clever enough to let Esmeralda handle the problem. LOL I do think that Frodo's move had to be very difficult for Merry. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

harrowcat · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

You have caught the emotions involved in this beautifully GW. I really loved the flying leap at Saradoc. Thank goodness for wise parents. Just a thought - you could have had this finishing with Merry 'borrowing' Frodo's room so that they could re-decorate his room so that it was for an older lad and not a baby any longer! Might have helped Merry move on even more and give him something to show Frodo later.

Author's reply

That's a wonderful idea that you have there. It would have worked into the story quite well. I hadn't thought of that when I was writing this one. One of these days I may have to go back and put that in. Thank you for the review and the interesting idea too!

Pearl Took · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Bless all their hearts! I'm glad Merry wants his mum and dad. A wonderful story indeed :)

Author's reply

Thank you! I thought Merry might not leave if he realized that someone else would be just as sad to see him go as he was to see Frodo leave. I also suspected that at eight, Merry would still very much need his parents. Thank you for the review!

Bodkin · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Good bit of Merry management here! And suggesting that Bilbo might be able to take him in - but that neither Esmeralda nor Saradoc would be there - is probably a good help in enabling their obstinate inventive little son to realise that Frodo is missing his parents. Even if it can't altogether reconcile him to losing his surrogate big brother. And strawberry scones might well tempt him to put off further thoughts of leaving home. For a while, at least!

Author's reply

I think it would have taken Merry a while to adjust to Frodo's move. Eight is not very old to try and understand things like grief and serious choices, especially if the eight-year-old has never had to deal with either. Glad you enjoyed it. I do think that comfort food would work quite well with a little hobbit but I am sure that there was more trouble over Frodo's move later on.

Andrea · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

“Your mother is a very smart hobbit,” Saradoc said, with a wink at Esmeralda. That she is, indeed! Esme did a wonderful job in explaining Merry why Frodo had to leave. And finally Merry understood! He is also a very smart lad. I liked that bit about the sheet underneath the box to make moving easier. Thank you Grey Wonderer for this vivid story!

Author's reply

I think that Esmeralda and Saradoc must have been very clever or they could never have kept up with Merry. LOL Glad you liked it. I always think of Merry as being inventive in a very practical way and that was how the sheet under the box came about. Thank you for reviewing!

PIppinfan1988 · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Oh, my gosh...what can I say? I am melted like butter. :-) This was aweome, beautiful...wonderfully done. You must have a window into my brain because I have often thought about Merry's reaction to Frodo's leaving...and this is exactly how I pictured it in my head. The emotional pitch was perfect. I very much enjoyed this tale--just as I have all your other stories! Thank you for yet another fantastic tale! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank you for this wonderful review! I could see Merry being hurt enough to be angry with Frodo but still very sad about it all and I am very glad to see that we agree on that point. Thanks for reading!

Dreamflower · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

Oh, I'm so glad you decided to put this here! I remember this one, and it's delightful. Esmeralda and Saradoc are so sweet and understanding. Such a treat to see it here this morning, it was a nice way to start the day! Poor Merry. But I'm sure he'll be paying a visit to Frodo very soon!

Author's reply

Thank you. I debated about posting it to B&T or as a separtate story but it seemed to me that it was just a bit short to post alone. And it is about Merry so I decided to put it in with the others. Hope you had a lovely day!

Mum's the Word · 29 January 2006 · Chapter 44: Frodo's Room

What a good look at Merry's reaction to Frodo's leaving! I love Merry's logic and his parents' wisdom. And the family affection is so good to see. Another great job, GW! Hugs and brownies, Mum

Author's reply

Oh, brownies! Excellent! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one.

Anso the Hobbit · 23 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

That was just lovely! So tender and wonderful. :D I have never seen a story with Grandmother Took in earlier and the picture you paint of her is beautiful. :D

Author's reply

Thank you. Merry's Grandmother Took was the character I was to include in my challenge. This was one of Marigold's challenge stories. I had never given her much thought until I was writing this. I am very glad that you liked her. Thank you for reading!

Bodkin · 19 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Pippin is just so very Pippin - only he could have the victims of the crime apologising to him and offering him its fruits! Merry is sneaky enough to remind everyone of his status when it suits him, too. (It actually makes me feel rather sorry for the local farmers and housewives that this bunch of rather privileged little gentlehobbits can run round pinching their crops and stealing their pies. 'Young gentleman's pranks' are often actions that would be considered crimes among the ordinary working hobbits.) I do have rather a desire to see the pie thieves get their comeuppance! But the story is absolutely hilarious. Made me laugh - and not much does that!

Author's reply

Thank you! I love the use of the word brilliant in reviews. LOL I am so glad this gave you a laugh. I did post one in which the thieves get their comeuppance. When Merry is a few years older he is again involved in a bit of stealing only from Farmer Maggot in this case. The story is called, "The Gardan Gate" and Maggot gives Merry a thing or two to think about and Merry takes care of some other little thieves. As you could tell in this one, Merry was all for fishing or swimming instead of pie-stealing but he was trying to impress the others. Pippin was just standing around being Pippin!

MaidenofValinor · 18 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

I hate to say this, but I really truly chuckled! Pippin...awwwwww!! I so badly want to hug him right now. Someone seriously needs to make me a Pippin plushie, then I could fulfill these urges. Haha. I want some pie....

Author's reply

I want pie too and that plushie doesn't sound like a bad idea either. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Larner · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Ah, dear, dear Pippin. At least he is predictable, and so manages not to finger the other lads. This is SO funny! I love it!

Author's reply

Thank you! The whole thing started with someone running by and handing Pippin a pie and then the rest of it just fell into place. I rarely know where an idea will lead or even where it comes from. I suspect that I watch too much television though. LOL

GamgeeFest · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

The nerve of that hobbit, not liking squirrels! This was adorable. It is best not to interrupt Pippin, isn't it? He's likely to go off on ten different tangents at once if you do. And him calling Berilac slow-witted! I'm sure Berry will have something to say about that once he catches up with them. I can so picture Merry practicing indignant looks in the mirror, probably at the same time he's flexing those muscles!

Author's reply

Lucky for Pippin Berilac could come out and get even with Mister Sandhills standing right there. LOL I am sure he will try to catch Pippin at some point, but he does tell Pippin the evil story about the bed at Frodo's in "If I Had a Hammer". LOL I have sort of made Berilac the cousin that is constantly telling Pippin small lies while they are growing up. (When Merry isn't doing it.hehehe) Thanks for reading and I am glad that you liked it.

PIppinfan1988 · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

"I spend my time, when I’m not busy running, worrying about what might happen to me if we’re caught. LOL, isn't that the truth?? LOL, oh, my gosh...lol.... Your Pippin is sooooo cute--and much more as a wee double-talker! Following his "Pippish" is like taking on a labyrinth. I loved how (whether he understood it or not) he thoroughly insulted the instigator-cowards hiding in the ferns. Excellent story! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Oh, I think he know exactly what he was doing when he began insulting them. After all, Berilac did set him up to be caught as a pie thief. LOL As to the line about running and worrying, sometimes I think that is my life. Merry and I have that in common. LOL Thanks for reading this and reviewing and for all of the other lovely 'friendship' things that you do! Cheers to you!

Baggins Babe · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

“Are you here to swipe my pie?” Pippin asks, backing up again and looking rather protective of the pie. Merimas is stunned. Pippin is actually accusing Mister Sandhills of stealing his own pie! It is just as well there's no-one else here at the moment, because that line completely finished me! I was laughing all the way through but i was howling at this bit! Only Pippin could accuse someone of stealing their own pie, and do it so charmingly. I love the way Pip rambles on in that way some childen do. Great story, GW, and loved Merry's narration too. The last line was perfect! :-))

Author's reply

Glad you liked it and that it made you laugh. I like it when people laugh at these. I also thank you for reviewing because your's is officially the 400th review for "Trust a Brandybuck and a Took"! A major event but sadly, no prize. LOL Thank you for reading and for reviewing, oh and for laughing too!

harrowcat · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Sorry about that GW. I was rushing my reading this morning and must have read someone else telling us they were re-posting. Just written last night? I don't know how you do it. But had to come back tonight for another giggle before I go to bed as it has been a rough day.

Author's reply

You might actually have been thinking of the one that I posted right before this. It was a re-post from a Challenge. Thank you for reading it twice and reviewing it both times. I am so pleased that it helped you get over your rough day. I do hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Sleep tight!

shirebound · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Much as I worry about thieving young hobbits running about, this is just too adorable. I hope they both enjoy the pie! Pippin is playing with fire and I am likely to get burned to a cinder if he doesn’t stop now. Mister Sandhills and his friends give me a chuckle and a look that says that they now find Pippin absolutely adorable. Everyone does sooner or later so I am hardly surprised. Awwwwww.

Author's reply

I have a garden-raiding story that takes place few years later when they both learn a thing or two about stealing called "The Garden Gate". Farmer Maggot teaches Merry a lesson after catching him in the crops. If you noticed, Merry is not exactly happy with the stealing but he wants to keep up with the older lads. This story is sort of his introduction into the whole business and "Garden Gate" is his lesson-learned. More than garden raiding, I do think a fresh pie on the window sill would have been a huge temptation for hobbit lads. Pippin just reaped the benefits of being in the right place at the right time. LOL Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review!

Andrea · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

“I did like my story about a Wizard much better though, but I suppose that couldn’t really happen unless there was a wizard about, could it?” Oh, this is just great! I love Pippin's conclusions! And in Dreamflower's words: Thank you for Pippin being so very - Pippish :)

Author's reply

Well, thank you for being someone who leaves such lovely reviews! Glad you liked Pippin in this.

Mum's the Word · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Whew! That was close! Excellent story, as always! I loved this line: Pippin standing there holding the pie and looking at it as if Yule has come early Wonderful, GW!

Author's reply

I figure free, unasked for pie when be a sort of Yule to a hobbit of twelve. LOL I'm glad you liked that line. Thank you so much for the lovely review and for reading this!

Dreamflower · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

Oh, GW! I do *so* love your Merry and your Pippin! They are so formidable together! This whole thing is so hilarious, from the breathless run at the beginning to Merry's conclusion at the end. I love Pippin being so very Pippish--the poor adults never really stood a chance, and Merry's rescue was masterful. And I just *loved* this part: Mister Sandhills and his friends give me a chuckle and a look that says that they now find Pippin absolutely adorable. Everyone does sooner or later so I am hardly surprised. Including you, Merry, though you may not want to admit it! LOL!

Author's reply

Those adults never knew what hit them once they refused to listen to Pippin about his squirrels. Rude of them, really. LOL I had fun letting Merry tell this one. For some reason, I enjoy it when he narriates. Thanks for reading and I am glad that you got a laugh or two out of it.

harrowcat · 17 January 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

I was goggling all through this GW but that last line had me completely cracking up! Thanks for re-posting this.

Author's reply

Thank you for enjoying it. This is actually the only time it has ever been posted. I wrote it last night so this is it's first appearance anywhere. Thank you for reading and for reviewing!
