Pearl Took · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

I've read this before and just enjoyed it a second time. This is a wonderful moment between Merry and his Grandmother. Some day Merry will see a lot of the fair folk and he'll be sure of her story. but that won't match believing her just because. So well done :) :)

Author's reply

There is nothing quite like trust. Thanks for reading this one again and for the lovely review! See you soon!

Bodkin · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

I remember this! I love the story of Merry, his Grandmother and the crystal. Good stuff.

Author's reply

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it a second time. That's always nice to hear.

GamgeeFest · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

Aw, this gave me warm and fuzzy feelings! Grandmother Took sounds like a tough old bird and it's nice that she and Merry were able to share this moment and get to know each other a little bit. Wonder who Merry ever gave the crystal too?

Author's reply

Glad you liked it. I plan to write a second story about Merry and the crystal but so far haven't had time. At least I finally remembered to post this story to "Brandybuck and Took". I wrote it some time again for a Challenge and just forgot to put it here. Thanks for reading!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

I was so happy to see this beautiful tale up! And I just had to have another read. :-) Your characterizations of Merry and his Grandmother are so spot on. You alwasy have Merry and Pippin nailed, but there is just something special about the way you portrayed the "before and after" relationship between Merry and his gramdmother. Very well done, my friend--and thanks for sharing it (again!). Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank you for reading it again. I had hoped to write a second story using the crystal and Merry but so far I haven't had the time to do it. I have a rough idea of what it should be about but that's all at this point. Looking forward to reading your latest chapter tomorrow after work. It's nearly 3am here and I just go home so I am off to bed. Thanks again! You'll be hearing from me tomorrow!

Dreamflower · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

You know, I do remember this with fondness from the Challenge. It is amazing to me how Marigold can give a person just the right combination of strange elements to bring out the best in them. And this is one of your best--a very simple and straightforward story, flashes of humor, and insight into the characters--I loved it then, and I think I like it even better now.

Author's reply

Thank you for saying so nice things. Marigold does have a way of getting a story out of a person, doesn't she? I'm glad you enjoyed this one and thank you for the review!

MaidenofValinor · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 42: Merry's Grandmother

aww...that's sweet! reminds me a lot of my relationship with my own grandmother, actually. Pippin is so adorable. He has a right to be proud of himself! I would be.^_^ I just love your writing, darling. Makes me smile, even at quarter till five in the morning! Heehee! Talk to you some other time, darling!

Author's reply

Well, here's a surprise! I thought I was the only one up at this hour. (Haven't been to bed yet.) Thank you for the lovely review and I am glad that this made you smile. It's an older one but I've been meaning to post it here for a while now. Thanks for reading!

good_one_pip · 1 January 2006 · Chapter 35: The Garden Gate

I love these two so much! You put just the right words into Pippin's mouth. I like how you portrayed Farmer Maggot, and how firm and fair he was with Merry. I have my own "Farmer Maggot" as it were near my house, and my best friend and I love running through those corn fields. After reading this story, however, I won't be tempted to steal anything. Interesting how these stories seem to affect my life. I had heard that this particular farmer near my house grew excellent strawberries, and I had considered going strawberry-hunting this spring for fun. (and to be like Merry and Pippin, I thought.) Well, I won't be doing that. Someone may count on those strawberries for their next meal. Thank you for teaching me that, Grey Wonderer.:)

Author's reply

This story was written from a plot bunny of Lindelea's and I truly enjoyed writing it. I am very glad that you enjoyed reading it. I am also glad that it left an impression of a sort. I never gave much thought to those sorts of things myself until recently. Thank you for reading and for reviewing this.

Periantari · 28 December 2005 · Chapter 34: It's No Mystery, Really

Awww that was adorable~! i so loved the Merry and PIppin banter about the story and the sarcasm there. Soooo adorable~ and the love between them is so precious. :D and funny too. =) I loved this! aww gentle h/c is good too. poor Pip with the cold! :D

Author's reply

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed this one. I always seem to write Merry a bit sarcastic and since he was sick, I figured that Pippin might be in a bad mood so this is what happened. LOL Thanks so much for reviewing!

Larner · 9 December 2005 · Chapter 41: Pippin's Night Out

I have giggled constantly all the way through. Am a bit surprised we didn't hear Pippin explain the conversation he overheard in the barn. And it appears Mrs. Goodbody has a bit of watching she needs to keep of Tulip. This was priceless--Pippin in the holly bushes naked was just too much to enjoy! Hehehehehehehe!

Author's reply

Glad you laughed at this one. I have no idea where this idea came from but once it was there, I just had to write it. Funny, the elements listed to include for the challenge didn't seem like the sort that would make me write a naked Pippin story and yet, here it is! I nearly let Pippin spill the beans on Tulip, but decided he'd be far too embarrassed to go into it at that point. Thanks for reading!

Bodkin · 8 December 2005 · Chapter 41: Pippin's Night Out

Poor Pippin. It's just one thing after another! None disastrous in itself, but piling up until . . . Even the mosquitoes have joined in the Pippin persecution. He'll never live this down. Anything that reminds his friends - and there will be a little grin . . . They won't need to day anything. Not a single word. Just look.

Author's reply

This one is likely to stick with him for a while. No doubt about that. I suspect that he won't be sleeping naked again for quite some time. Thanks for reading and for the review!

harrowcat · 7 December 2005 · Chapter 41: Pippin's Night Out

What a fantastic imagination you have GW. I think that I am going to found 'naked sleepers united' and ask Pippin to join. Your story is a warning to us all. But then I am single and live in a bed-sit with shared facilities. And if I were to admit to a few late-night privvy visits myself I might be blusshing as bright as a holly berry myself!

Author's reply

"Naked Sleepers United" sounds like a great group and I am sure once Pippin recovers from his holly-bush experience he'd be happy to join! I think everyone has a story where they get caught in less than full dress. I am not about to tell mine, but I enjoyed writing one for Pippin! LOL Thanks for reviewing!

Anso the Hobbit · 7 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

LOL! Lovely! *giggle* Pippin does indeed believe and remember everything Merry says. What a fun little story. :D

Author's reply

I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I thought Pippin would quote Merry often because he looked up to him so much.

Andrea · 5 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Great story! I liked the different reactions of Pippin's older sisters to his praise of Merry, especially that of Pervinca, only a little more and she would have "exploded" ;-) On the other hand I'm admiring Frodo's patience and his seriousness. It seems Frodo has adapted "Pippin logic": “But if Merry didn’t tell you and he is the only one who knows then who told you this amazing story about your cow?” Now, even Pippin is speechless (for a split second) and finds nothing better to answer than "I can’t tell you that, Frodo." And Merry is the only person who has not yet recognized how much his little cousin listens to him ... Just great!

Author's reply

Thank you so much. I am glad that you liked it. I think I would have been about as ready to explode as Pervinca after ablout the tenth or so mention of "Merry says" and so that was easy to write. It's the patient part that I had trouble with. LOL Thank you for reading this one!

Illyria · 5 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Mmmm...Pippin is simply adorable. I love how all the previous incidences show how much Pippin trusts Merry to the point of believing the tale of the pony that was changed into a pony, but in the last "act" Merry himself doesn't seem to know this. Thanks for this; it's lovely.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and reviewing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know little ones will believe almost anything if it is told my someone they adore and Pippin certainly adores Merry!

Larner · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Dear, sweet Pippin. Yes, the authority on what Merry has to say indeed! Heh! No, Merry, he doesn't listen, does he? Heh!

Author's reply

You just never know the impression that you're leaving on others. Merry was looked up to and adored by his younger cousin, but at twenty, Pippin wasn't about to admit it. LOL

merlynnod · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

That was wonderful! Such a sweet story! And the ending was just perfect with Merry and Pippin arguing and Frodo watching on, amused. Lovely story! :D

Author's reply

Thank you! So glad that you enjoyed it and thank you for stopping by to review. I enjoyed writing this one.

PIppinfan1988 · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

These are lovely portraits of how you depict young Pippin trusting his dearest Merry. LOL, Merry is always right no matter what! I'm willing to wager little Pip waited in the window the entire day for snow, and not once thought that Merry was pulling his leg. One of the many reasons why I love the relationship you portray between Merry and Pippin is because it reminds me of me and my sister when we were little. My sister could do no wrong (until she pushed the right buttons), and though I had my skeptical days, nearly everything she said was as good as gold. You know, I have often imagined Paladin having a few years of bad luck with farming, too, but just don't have the agricultural wits to write about it. I'd like to see how you imagine it happening...bunny hopping your way. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank you for the bunny and the review. That makes two bunnies that I have received from this little story. Dreamflower wants Gandalf to hear the cow/pony story with Merry and Pippin present and Frodo doing the story telling. Now you have given me the farming bunny! I may have some more writing to do! So glad you enjoyed this one and that it reminded you of yourself and your sister. I am always pleased when something brings back a pleasant memory for someone reading. I was just talking about our big breakfast adventure to a friend and it made me think of the symphony! I can't wait for that event. Looking forward to more of "Merry's Graduation" and your challenge story!

pathvain_aelien · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

I happen to like the fluff! Fluff=happy readers. Then again, anything Merry and Pippin also=happy readers. :)

Author's reply

Well, I am very glad that you liked this. I enjoy a bit of fluff now and then myself as you can see and Merry and Pippin are my favorite fluff-targets! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. It encourages the fluff.

GamgeeFest · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Awww! I feel all fluffy now. That is so typical of small children, to repeat everything a beloved older friend says. And also typical of an adolescent, to then ignore everything the beloved older friend says, or at least pretend to ignore it. Wonderful as always.

Author's reply

Thank you! So I made you all fluffy, did I? I warned you. LOL This idea just came to me last night and it had been a while since I'd written any Brandybuck and Took. I was beginning to think I'd come to the end of this series, but I guess not. Glad you enjoyed it!

shirebound · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Adorable! Oh, the Merry!worship all through Pip's childhood! What a sweet, cousin-y tale. I especially love how patient and understanding Frodo remained all through that marvelous cow-pony story. :D

Author's reply

Frodo certainly got an ear-full about that cow/pony didn't he? It is a very good thing that he is such a patient hobbit and that he knows very well how to keep a straight face during an improbable tale. Years of living with Bilbo must have taught him that. Thanks for the review and I'm glad that you enjoyed this one.

Bodkin · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

There must be rather a lot of people around young Peregrin Took who got rather tired of the words 'Merry says' until at last they became so familiar that they stopped even noticing them. Merry might think that Pippin doesn't listen to him, but he must be the only one! I love the pony/cow story. It's a masterpiece - as is its delivery. Very much looking forward to more of these!

Author's reply

Yes, everyone must have been extremely tired of "what Merry said" by the time Pippin finished quoting him. With the age difference I am sure that Pippin was impressed with everything that Merry had to say, especially his ideas on how to eat biscuits. LOL Glad you liked the pony/cow story. For some reason I seem to write a lot of stories involving farm animals in unusual situations. Cows, ponies, goats, chickens.....I wonder what that could mean? Best not to think about it too much. Thanks for reading!

SlightlyTookish · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Cute! I think the one with Pervinca is my favorite, I laughed out loud when Pippin said “Because Merry says that you don’t know anything so how could you know if Merry knows everything or not?” Pippin said.. I love the humor in your stories :)

Author's reply

Pippin's sisters probably heard more about Merry and what he said than they could stand some days. Glad you enjoyed Pervinca's reaction to it all. I like to write her but haven't had the chance much lately. Thanks for reading!

harrowcat · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Frodo chuckled softly as Merry gave his full attention to his fishing. No, Pippin didn’t simply listen to what Merry said. Pippin memorized every single word that left Merry’s mouth, believed most of what Merry said and then repeated the wit and wisdom of his older Brandybuck cousin for the whole Shire to hear every chance that he got. Pippin Took was the leading authority on what Merry had to say even if Merry didn’t realize it. I think that Merry must be the only person who doesn't realise it! Loved every minute of the GW.

Author's reply

Merry may be the one who isn't listening if he can't hear Pippin mentioning him in every other breath. LOL So glad that you enjoyed it and thank you for the lovely review!

Dreamflower · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Oh GW! It's so *good* to see another one of these! I just adore it! And it is *so* true. Once of these days, I'd love to see Frodo let the bit about the cow pony slip to Gandalf in front of both Pippin and Merry--that would be priceless! Thanks for a lovely start to the day!

Author's reply

A plot bunny! I might have to write that one. I'm am sure that Gandalf would be very interested to hear the details. LOL I am also sure that Frodo would be more than willing to tell all under the proper circumstances. Glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't done one in a while and last night this just turned up waiting to be written. That you for rec'ing it and for all of the lovely feedback. You are a sweetie!

GamgeeFest · 29 October 2005 · Chapter 39: The Tell Tale Took, A Hobbit Halloween story

LOL! Oh, GW that was hilarious. I love that Pippin also scared himself and that he's so proud of his story telling abilities. I'm glad the little kitten got away too. :)

Author's reply

I could never have a story in which the kittens didn't reach safety. It's a rule of mine. I would have been right there with Frodo wanting to make sure that the kitten was ok. Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
