· Chapter 54: Poking The Badger
Heehee, I loved the bantering here. But you know, I really feel for Merry. I can definitely relate to having to listen to insensitive remarks about one's height. I've had people walk right into me and then claim that the never saw me. How could they miss me?? I think I must have looked like a tree or pillar to them. I wonder if this has ever happened to Merry...*sigh* Poor Merry!
I especially liked when Pippin recollected his wins at wrestling, and knew all along that Frodo and Merry had bribed the others to lose!
Author's reply
See, there it is! I would love to be taller and you know that's not going to happen. LOL I think in a way Pippin got his wish when he became taller but for Merry it would have been different because he didn't have a problem with his height. (Personally, having met you, I think you are the perfect height.)
Glad you enjoyed the wrestling tale. I know in the book Tolkien mentions that the Hobbits do some wrestling and so I thought it would be something they might wager for drinks on. Guys in a par will bet on anything. LOL Thanks for reading!

Oh brilliant GW! I was giggling like mad at the image of that badger. But, seriously, it really is the seemingly small things that take the most adjusting to.
Author's reply
I think the small things can worry us the most. There seem to be less solutions for them and we just make do with them and go on finally. Thank you for giggling and for reviewing!

Oh GW! How funny! It's the discussion from Filling In the Corners! I love Pippin's whole upbeat attitude, and the way he finally cheers Merry up!
And you are the Mistress of Banter! The whole conversation was thoroughly delightful!
“I’ve been overlooked and stepped on before,” Pippin said frowning. “Several times in fact.”
“I never stepped on you!” Merry objected.
“I didn’t mean you had,” Pippin said. “Your father did once, but I don’t think you have.” Pippin cocked his head to one side and seemed to ponder this question.
Thank goodness I had finished my drink, because that just made me splutter! Really, you should post a beverage warning on your fics!
I love it that Pippin was the reasonable one in this conversation! There really is such a neat give and take between the two of them!
Author's reply
LOL I actually made a 'drink warning' icon and put it on the post over on LJ after reading your comment so now, too late for this story I realize, there is a drink warning in place.
So glad it made you laugh and that you were finished with your beverage at the time. I rec'd Filling up Corners on my LJ because of all of the help that I got when I posted over there on this subject. I am actually planning to write a second story on this subject that will take place during the quest and it will use more of the responses that I received on Gryffinjack's site! Thanks for reading!

As if sober!Pippin's pippish isn't bad enough, now we get to hear what drunk!Pippin pippish sounds like! Very funny. That's one bottle of whatever and monster hangover they'll never forget! Merry will have to be more specific about his 'rules' in the future.
Author's reply
Yes, I am afraid that Merry's rule just didn't hold up well when all was said and done. LOL It does seem that Frodo's Baggins Brew holds it's strength over the years though. When Merry's head finally quits aching he will have to make new rules and I think one of them should be , Never drink anything unless you know exactly what it is! Thanks for reviewing!

Baggins Brew, eh? Oh my, that hobbit does has stupid ideas!
And of course Pippin would find the bottle, no matter how well Saradoc hid it.
Great story!
Author's reply
I think Frodo had in mind making something that tasted like the Old Winyards but had no idea what he was doing. LOL
And everything you do comes back to haunt you so when Pippin was looking for something to drink there was Frodo's old disaster! It had to happen. Thanks for reading!

They do deserve the headaches. Mind you, so does Amethyst - who has the potential to become a very wealthy bootlegger.
I expect Saradoc would have poured out Frodo's home-brew - only he was afraid of the effect it would have had on the fish in the Brandywine.
I think Pippin and Merry might both learn something from this experience. Although quite what, I'm not sure!
Author's reply
Amethyst seems to have got off not only with Pippin's money but with no headache at all. But when Merry and Pippin's parents find out about The Big Green Bottle her involvement just might slip out. *maybe*
LOL You could be right about Saradoc. Maybe he was protecting the fish! I can't imagine that Baggins Brew would be good for fish.
I think Merry and Pippin will learn that it is important to know what you're drinking and exactly where it comes from before you drink it! They might also learn a thing or two about Frodo's past adventures if he decides to tell them who distilled their spirits.
Thanks for reading and reviewing! Cheers!

Ah, a fitting ending for this saga. And Frodo is to blame, is he? Lovely.
Author's reply
Poor Frodo! Seems his wicked past has turned up to haunt him but maybe Saradoc should have disposed of his 'gift' of Baggins Brew a long time ago. hehehe Or maybe someone needs to keep a closer watch on the cellar key and Miss Brandybuck! I do think there is plenty of blame to go around this time. Merry may be the most innocent party in all of this and that is very unusual!

Again, I am giggling fit to bust. And Pippin does have a way of wheedling folk around to his plans after a time, doesn't he? Good for Pal, making Pippin clean the barn! Sensible Hobbit he is!

Oh goodness. *laughs and laughs and laughs* This was utterly delighted, and I needed it, and I would never, ever, ever drink Baggins Brew (if I was even able to, of course). Bottle number six-hundred-seventy-nine! And Pippin thinking he'd found the oldest vintage in the Shire! And Pippin and Merry making me laugh all over myself, when they were drunk (and I don't envy them the hangovers they'll have).
Thank you!

ROTFL!!!! Oh, my gosh--I was champing at the bit all day waiting to read this tale--and it was well worth the wait. Oh, gosh--Pippin thinking he got the oldest bottle in the lot and ends up with Baggins' Brew and manipulates Merry into giving him some! What a hangover they're going to have later on! Especially that lightweight Pippin. ;-) This was too funny! Thanks for the wonderful laugh!

Author's reply
Hey, glad you enjoyed it! I am enjoying your latest so much so it's nice to be able to return a bit of the favor. The hangovers are going to be wicked but folks really shouldn't drink 'Baggins Brew' even if it has aged. Thanks for reading.

"Baggins Brew", ey? And there I thought Bilbo managed to "tame" that rascal of a hobbit! Well, it seems I'm wrong - and I love it ;-)
Author's reply
Yes, you can't ever completely tame Frodo. Even Bilbo wasn't up to that job. I love Frodo's spirit and I also enjoy showing that before Merry and Pippin turned the Shire on its ear, Frodo had done so several times! Thanks for laughing and for taking the time to review!

“Do you want me to more us some pour?” Pippin asked and then he hic-upped. He grinned at Merry and said, “I mean do you want me to pour us some pour?”
***************************
“Merry, you’re my favorite cousin. Of all of the cousins that I have, and I have a lot of cousins, you’re the one cousin that is my favorite of all of them.”
“I’m my favorite too,” Merry grinned and he reached over to get the big green bottle so that he could refill their glasses again.
***********************
“It’s still half full,” Merry said.
Pippin smiled. “So the bottom of it is still full even if the top of it is empty. So some of this bottle is still very full even now after all this pouring and pouring.”
Merry drank from his glass and then burped. They both laughed again. “I want to miss you a very Pippy bithday, Hap,” Merry grinned.
“No, it’s Hippy Pipday, Merry,” Pippin corrected.
“That’s not right,” Merry frowned. “I think it’s Hap-ty birthpippin’s day! That’s what it is. So Hap-ty to you, Pip!”

· Chapter 53: The Big Green Bottle
This is so funny! I love Pippin's logic (if you can call it that) in this. He has *obviously* learned an awful lot from Merry over the years about being devious, and splitting hairs, LOL!
And Merry,so reasonable and careful at first, lost his judgment very quickly once the brew hit his system.
But the best part was Frodo. I nearly choked trying to be quiet, when he revealed the origins of the "big green bottle".
What I'd love to know is if he ever revealed his knowledge--did he rather gloatingly help them through their hangovers, rubbing it in as to what they'd been drinking? Or did he pretend not to notice? I'd love to hear the cousins discussing this years later--maybe on the Quest. It would be hilarious.
Author's reply
A review complete with a little plot bunny!
So glad you enjoyed this one. Yes, Pip has been paying attention to all of Merry's plots and so he now can use this knowledge to get himself into trouble without consulting Merry. LOL This time he brought Merry along for the ride.
I liked the idea of taking one of Frodo's adventures and mixing it with a current plot of Pippin's. I could just see the look on his face when he found that bottle along with his drunken cousins.
As to the plot bunny, I may just have to feed that and see what grows. Maybe I could give the bunny some Baggins Brew! I am sure that can't be the only bottle left.

Oh this sounds fun GW - the punishment is definitely going to fit this crime. The rules of politeness seem to have overruled Merry's commonsense. So! A new version of the counting song eh? "695 green bottles hiding in the cellar.... one got poured out...."

Heehee, I say again. The old bucket-over-the-door trick. It never worked for me either, and I have rectangular doors. The hobbit doors would be quite challenging. I must ask, how many of these tricks that you mention in your stories have YOU actually carried out? You seem to know a good deal about them. LOL Poor Pip really should be careful about the feats he attempts on his own. You'd think he would learn eventually. ;) The whole hiccups-when-nervous thing was a funny quirk. Where did you think of that? That wasn't in any of the other stories either, was it?
Author's reply
No that bucket thing just doesn't work well at all, does it? LOL As to how many of these tricks I have actually pulled, well, only a couple of them really. I just have a devious mind. I don't have enough nerve to have tried them all.
I hadn't used the hiccups-when-nervous in any of my other stories because usually Pippin is the one who has been pranked rather than the one with something to worry about. I don't remember where I hear about this but because hiccups can be caused by breathing improperly I thought that it might work. People often breath too quickly or hold their breath when nervous so I thought that might result in hiccups once in a while.
Thanks so much for reading this and for the lovely review!

· Chapter 46: Eowyn's Seashell
Heehee, you really need to write a few more stories of Merry, Pippin, and their kids. I got a good chuckle out of the whole buisness. And the similarities between thema and their children was perfect. I loved how even though they were fathers and husbands and warriors now, Merry and Pippin still remain unquestionably Merry and Pippin.
Interestingly enough, I had just finished rereading one of the rather darker parts of the Two Towers (I reread the trilogy every summer.) It had been raining really hard outside. Then, about halfway through the story, I happened to look out the window and see - Sunlight! The sun had broken through the clouds for the first time all day! perfect timing. I feel much better now.
Author's reply
That is very interesting about the sun coming out while you were reading. I did think that it would have been one of the first signs that things had improved after the battle.
I only have a couple of stories involving Merry and Pippin's children. I don't know why but I find them a bit harder to write. I am glad that you enjoyed the fact that Merry and pippin were still pretty much the same as always in spite of being all grown up. I just can't think of them as serious.

This is depressing. This chapter was finished 7 monthes ago and I haven't gotten a chance to read it until now, since school's out. I've missed your stories a lot, and I haven't forgotten them. There were a couple of allusions you made to other chapters, and I could remember the exact predicament Pippin had been in. This chapter was a hilarious idea. Only Pip could get caught in a situation like this. I like how you begin without the reader having any idea what's going on and then keep them laughing as things go from bad to worse for poor Pip. You capture the mind of that Took really well. Everything he thought was something I could really see Pip thinking. My favorite line was definitely "He had very nearly become the Shire’s first naked arsonist!" Again, Only Pip.
