· Chapter 11: In A tent Somewhere in Hobbiton
LOL, even with no narrative, I can picture perfectly what everyone is doing, their tones of voices, their facial expressions. I've had this experience a few times myself. Annoying while it's happening, funny afterwards.
Author's reply
I think sometimes that Frodo tried too hard to please his cousins and others. This time, it got him stuff in a tent for a while. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'd never written anything where it was strickly dialog before.

· Chapter 13: Bug's Life
Awwwww!! This is so sweet! I can so easily see the whole thing, you describe it so well. And you capture perfectly the inquisitive and imaginative mind of a small child. I love Merry's indulgence of Pippin, and the knowledge that--yes, he *will* go straight for the tomatoes! (So would I; nothing beats a home-grown tomato! 8-D)
Author's reply
I love fresh-picked tomatoes myself! I can see Pippin eating them and crawling out of the garden covered in juice. So can Merry. Thank you for the review and for reading these.

· Chapter 12: Thinking Too Much
*chuckle* This was a sweet one. Merry not nearly so impatient as he was pretending to sound, and poor Pip, suffering from "thinking too much" (what a phrase! *grin*)about the age difference.
I've always found myself fascinated by it myself. Of course, it's not as large a gap as it seems to us, with hobbits' different rate of maturity, but it is still a significant gap. Yet the three of them never seem to pay a lot of attention to it. They just love one another, and get on with the business of being friends!
Author's reply
I think that is one of my favorite things about hobbits. They don't give age too much thought at all when choosing their companions. I always think of Bilbo and how he spent most of his time with his youngest cousins because he enjoyed their company. I did think that Pippin might worry a little bit, though needlessly.

LOL... Really very funny..... Poor frodo, can't even read a book in peace. His cousins love to play tricks and even had sam invoved........ Frodo was sure trying to get them, and he put them to work.... Love the story a great read........ Keep up the good work......
Author's reply
Thank you! I can see Frodo wanting a quiet day to read, but with Merry and Pippin around, I expect that quiet was very hard to come by. Thank you for the lovely review!

Awwww! Loved that! I often wondered about Pippin's insecurity of Merry coming of age before him, and you dealt with it so perfectly. Pippin is still sweet with qualities of both a young adult and the unsurety of his childhood. Lovely little moment! :-)

Author's reply
AWWWWWW, thanks. I just figured that Pippin might worry that his Merry was going to go all serious and proper on him. Little did he know, LOL. Thanks for reading these little stories and for all of your reviews. Now, be a good fiction writer and go finish Roses.

LOL! Too cute! What a chatter box Pippin is--and Merry falls into his chatter trap every time. What a lovely pair of hobbit cousin/siblings you have(they fight like siblings, anyway!). And I love your Frodo, too--the exasperated "older cousin/brother! See you next chapter!

Pippin worrying so much about his friendship with MErry beofre there is even a reason for it! "These things always happen when you start thinking too much.", I guess Merry often gets to be the one to catch Pippin in his thinking too much moods! The way Merry reassured Pippin was perfect, thank you!

So glad that you are still reading these. You have been so great to review and I thank you for it. I am pleased that you enjoyed this one.

· Chapter 12: Thinking Too Much
Age has so much to do with relationships as you grow up - it's pretty amazing that the whole Frodo / Merry / Pippin love worked as well as it did. It certainly wouldn't if they had all gone to school.
I love little Pippin worrying about how being officially adult will change Merry, but if he has coped with his little cousin throughout his childhood, he is not likely to bother about the difference between 25 and 33.
After a time it is life experience that makes the difference - and these two are heading for the most bonding kind of life experience that they could possibly endure.
Author's reply
I love the fact that hobbits really don't seem too concerned with age. I liked that Bilbo had made friends of his youngest cousins because they understood him best and I was pleased that the same was true with Frodo and Merry and Pippin. I did think that as the youngest among them, Pippin might be just a bit worried once he was the only one not of age. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

· Chapter 9: A Matter of trust
"It's not easy being green."
See, if Pippin had watched the Muppet movie, he would have known better than to go along with Merry's plan.
The things that Pippin would allow Merry to do to him always amazed Frodo.
I'm with Frodo on this one. What in the world was Pippin thinking, allowing Merry to paint him. He should know by now that Merry's plans are not always well thought out.
This was another one that had me laughing out loud!
Author's reply
It's true, Pippin is far too trusting when it comes to Merry. Thanks to Sam, this all worked out in the end. I'll bet Pippin would have enjoyed the Muppet Movie. It's just too bad he didn't get a chance to see it. LOL

I'm sure my roommate thinks I'm a lunatic, I've been laughing so much over this one. I just love the image of Pippin up in the tree, firing stones off at the door of Bag End. What would Bilbo think, if he was there? I'm sure they are leaving dreadful marks on the door :D And Frodo gets them all in the end, just like a good Baggins should!
Author's reply
This was my version of kids ringing the door bell and running off to hide. Glad it made you laugh. If your room mate asks, just blame it on me. I am a very bad influence, ask anyone. LOL

· Chapter 6: The Cart
My brothers used to do things like this when we were kids. And I was the one tagging along, being a pest.
He’d watched his father build things and somehow, in a way that he couldn’t quite explain, he just knew how things should be built by thinking them out.
I love this description of how Merry's mind works. Another lovely interlude :)
Author's reply
I bet they liked haing you along on their adventures! Maybe they were like Merry and just hated to admitt it.
Merry seems, to me at least, to have the most logical mind of all of the hobbits.

· Chapter 5: Here kitty, Kitty
I like Pippin's version of names, particularly Bobo. Little ones have such a hard time with names and they make up the most interesting variants. Poor Frodo, getting skunked, but he was being far too complacent with Pippin, he needed a bit of a lesson, I think, lol.
Author's reply
Frodo was really in the wrong place at the wrong time on this one. I guess when it comes to Pippin, Merry knows what's best even though Frodo is older. Thanks for reading!

Pippin really is irrepressible. It figures that all he learned from that mess was "I can walk on my hands." LOL

· Chapter 3: Merry's Doorway
How precious! I love Pippin's stuffed rabbit named Errol. I also love the train of thought that starts with Merry thinking he's almost grown (at the ripe old age of twelve) and shouldn't have to have a little Pipsqueak in bed with him, to realizing that now he's big, it's his turn to protect the smaller one :)
Author's reply
Merry is always the protector and I think he just noticed how frightened Pippin, er, Errol was and decided to step in. LOL Glad you enjoyed this one.

Oh, this was PRECIOUSSSSSSS!!!!! How clever of you to write it all in dialogue and how spot on were your characterizations! I could practically hear every single word they said (in the voices of 'lij, Dom & Billeh). Thank you so much for this fun read!

Author's reply
I've been camping many times and I don't like sleeping with the bugs either. Poor Frodo was only trying to do something the others might enjoy and it turned out that everyone wanted to be in their nice, warm, beds. LOL Thank you for the review and I'm glad that it made you laugh.

I remember coming across this one the other day, but I didn't realize it was one of yours, and I don't recall if I left a review for it or not. But it's very beautifully done in just the dialogue. Every bit just brings the picture out, and I can just see the three of them in my mind's eye.
Author's reply
I thank you for the kind words. It was in response to a challenge, but then, I always have relied on the dialogue rather than the discription and so this was something I enjoyed doing. Often times, I think my hobbits talk too much. This time, they had a reason.

· Chapter 10: A Soldier's Tale
This is absolutely lovely! As a child, some of my very favorite stories were those in which the toys came alive and had their own thoughts and feelings. Many of those are very old-fashioned stories, and yours had a similar flavor. I especially enjoyed the ending, where Pip seems to know exactly what Merry's little lieutenant is thinking. And you don't need to apologize for the M&C reference, it's very subtle, really.
Author's reply
I am a huge fan of "The Velvetine Rabbit". I guess it shows, though I wasn't thinking of it when I wrote this, at least not conciously. I never know what's in the back of my mind. I do think that if anyone could talk to toys it would be Pippin so it seemed only natural that he might know what that little soldier was thinking. LOL Glad the Master and Commander bit worked for you. I just had to do it. Too good to pass up.

This is so incredibly creative!! I thoroughly loved it. You need to edit out the apology for the Master and Commander joke, it is wonderful!!! Wonderful, wonderful!!
Author's reply
Thank you for saying such nice things! I figured that even if it didn't work, it was, at the very least, a different approach. Maybe next time the boat can tell its side of things. (No, that may be going a bit too far.) So you enjoyed the Master and Commander joke? Glad to hear that someone did. I did that for me. LOL It seemed a cute tie-in at the time, but I thought some might find it a bit silly so I tacked on the apology. Thank you again, for this lovely review.

I can't remember when I laughed so hard, GW! General Brandybuck, the Intruder, the Old Campaigner, the Advisor! LOL.. All from a wooden toy's point of view...while a child is able to "communicate" with it. Brilliant as always, Grey Wonderer! Loved that M&C bit! My salty little Pippin! :-)

You had me rolling with their stew insults at poor Frodo! Then nearly squeezed a tear out of me over Merry feeling that Pippin was the only one who trusted him without question. A very sweet story! Are there more coming?? These are all brilliant pieces of writing, GW! Keep it up! :-)

You? Speachless? I have accomplished something! Just put a note on this one to let you know that you are appreciated by me in all of my madness.
I think that too many folks thought of Merry as not to be trusted so I am sure he was surprised by all of the trust that Pippin put in him. Thanks to Sam, everyone will recover and eat well. Poor Frodo. He can cook, just not like Sam Gamgee can.

Wow! Thank you! I almost wish you'd written it too because I just love your stories. (I almost wish you had. LOL) Thank you for the great review and for reading this. The soldiers and the boat were in "Thinking of You" in a rather serious chapter in which they help to jog Pippin's memory a bit. I wanted to revisit them in happier times. I have always thought that Merry would have made a terrific general or master-planner of some sort.
