*snort* You had me laughing through the whole thing! That Pippin came back after the arguement and Merry knew he would, was great! Then such a comedy of errors I was in tears! Saradoc breaking them apart and wanting "no more none sense" so Frodo had to explain! Thank you so much for the fun! I don't think I have read the story that seemed to have given you this idea, I'm sure it is here on storiesofarda. I will have to look it up! Also you mentioned Pippish again a term that I believe describes Pippin so well. Especially your Pippin, you do such a wonderful job writing the hobbits especially Pippin that I'm in awe every time I read your story! :D
Author's reply
So pleased that you enjoyed this one. I love it when these things give folks a laugh or two. The original story is here on Arda and it is part of my "12 Days Challenge" It is chapter 11 and is called "A Brief History of Smoking". This is the link for it if you are interested and thank you for all of you kind reviews! I am very glad that you like my version of the hobbits. http://www.storiesofarda.com/texteditor/chapterpreview.asp?sid=3247&CID=12394

One of those catastrophes where no one thing was mind-numbingly stupid in itself - but put together will have them smoking at the bottom of the garden for a long while. (I agree about the burnt hair - it stinks with a stink that is just so stinky!)
Author's reply
I like to think of it as a house of cards. One thing goes wrong and the entire thing falls down around you. As Pippin said, it is best not to set anything on fire while smoking. I do believe that you are right; they will all be smoking outside for a while after this, if at all.
Dreamflower · 20 March 2005 · Chapter 26: Fire in the Hole!
Good morning, GW! Thank you for such a nice hearty guffaw! Pippin-baiting, Merry's favorite sport, and apparently Frodo's favorite spectator sport. I can just imagine Frodo trying to explain to Saradoc why he allowed that disaster to occur. And Saradoc taking Pippin for a *proper* pipe-smoking lesson while Frodo and Merry are left to clean up the mess. *chuckle*snort* I love Frodo's voice in this. You can see his fondness coming through his dry wit. You should do more stories of him observing Merry and Pip--it really is lovely.
Author's reply
Hey, so glad that you got a laugh from this one. Somewhere in the back of my mind, Aragorn was shouting, "The Beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!" and King Theoden was riding off as fast as he could in the opposite direction. LOL I have wanted to write a Frodo story for a while now and this is as close as I have come to it. I just might need to use his pov again at some point in all of this madness. Thanks for reading!
Auntiemeesh · 20 March 2005 · Chapter 26: Fire in the Hole!
ROFL! I love how Frodo just stood back and watched this disaster unfold. Poor Pippin, never taken seriously and always taunted and teased by his older cousins, lol. It's a good thing he's got a tough skin and forgives readily. As for Merry, I hate to be callous, but I think he got what he deserved. Maybe next time he'll remember who he's dealing with and exercise a little more sense and caution. I'd love to be a fly on the wall and hear what Saradoc has to say about this whole situation, lol. :)
Author's reply
I am sure that Saradoc had plenty to say and I am guessing that Esmeralda was none too happy about it either once she found out about it. This could have been longer, but somehow I wasn't sure that poor Frodo could take anymore and I did want to leave some of Brandy Hall standing when I quit. Thanks for reading!

Hi there.. Im a huge fan of your fanfiction, especially this series. I just love the way you've chracterised Merry and Pippin. I loved all of the chapters, and im sorry to say but i've been extremely awful with leaving feedback, so i do agologise. I do hope you contiune with this series. I just love it. Nice work!
Author's reply
Hi there, yourself. I am very pleased that you have enjoyed this series and I thank you for the review. It is good to know that these little stories have an audience. All of us read and forget to review from time to time. Don't worry about that. I am just glad you are reading them and that you like them. I am sure there will be more of them. I never thought that they woud go this far, but they seem to keep coming. Stop by any time.
GamgeeFest · 20 March 2005 · Chapter 26: Fire in the Hole!
Oh, GW, that was the best to date! The Pippin teasing, Pippin's righteous wrath, the fires, Merry's reaction and Pippin still wanting his pipe, completely missing the point. ROTF!
Author's reply
Glad you enjoyed it! Fortunately, Pippin must have become better with fire by the time Gandalf had him light those beacons. LOL Good thing Minas Tirith was largely made of stone. Thanks for the review!

Hai Took · 17 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
I loved this. You always write the hobbits so well, I adore your "little" Pippin and I think you nail Merry every time. This was great! I'm glad you included Freddy! You always hear about, Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo but I love when Freddy is included and that I you did him well. That he was willing to let Pippin come along and be so sweet about it. Thank you for the story!
Author's reply
Thank you! I like Freddy and I enjoy including him whenever I can. I think of him as a rather sweet, easy-going hobbit and I think he gives the others another friend for adventures. Thank you for reading this!
GamgeeFest · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
Isn't Merry just the greatest? It must have been very difficult for him to not go hunting down those hobbits, but he gave Pippin some good advice. Poor Pippin.
Author's reply
Yes, the more you make of a thing, sometimes the worse it gets. I am sure Merry wanted to pay them back right then, but he knew that would only cause them to pick on Pippin more once they realized that they had gotten to him. Thanks for the review!
Anso the Hobbit · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
Poor Pippin! He is little though and it is not easy to see when people joke or not. I`m glad Merry was there for him to explain and make him happy again, and that Freddy was so generous to him and invited him on the fishing trip too.
Author's reply
I think that Pippin always wants to believe that others have good intentions toward him and at that age, I am sure he needed Merry's help to see who was trust-worthy and who wasn't. Older cousins can be priceless because after all, there are friends, and then, there's Merry! Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Andrea · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
O, that brings back some childhood memories! I, too was tricked once. And I had no Merry to comfort me. But this experience helped me to separate true friends from others. I've never given up hope though, that there is something good in this world, and with this positive intention I've met lots of wonderful people. Thank you for this great chapter!
Author's reply
Children can be very wicked to one another. Sounds like you had a bad experience, but you are right in that it lets you know who your friends really are. It can be very hard to face up to, but not everyone is worth trusting. Sounds like you came out of it with the right idea and didn't let it stop you from making good friends. Thank you for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed this chapter.
Bodkin · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
I would rather like to see Merry and sidekicks Freddy and Pippin working out some rather nasty and very clever revenge on those horrible little snots. Pippin is so puppy-like about forgiving such insults - but Merry isn't, so go for it Meriadoc Brandybuck, make them pay!
Author's reply
Seems there is a general out-cry for Merry to defend Pippin on this one. I will have to do some serious thinking about this. There may be a tiny bunny trying to tell me something. Thank you for reading and reviewing and I will give this revenge some thought.
Dreamflower · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
I would not want to be Toby and his friends. Having Merry angry because one had been foolish enough to make his Pippin cry would not be fun. But I'll bet he would be very subtle in his revenge, so that they would never know Pippin *didn't* figure it out on his own. Oh, and I love your Fredegar! What a sweetie!
Author's reply
As you know, Merry is very good at getting even when his protective side comes into play. I seem to remember some Banks brothers that got theirs once upon a time. LOL I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed Freddy because I have always thought that no one writes him better than you do! Thanks for the review!
Pipinheart · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
Pippin is playing a game one I reconize in the telling as a child. It keeps falling and gets frustrated as it seems he isn't good at this game. They yell at him and seem to ridicule him but Pippin keeps on. He won't quit because he dosen't want them to call him a quitter or a baby. As Merry and Freddy come along they see a different side to this game..There is Pippin on a hot summer day in a meadow thinking he's playing a game with the other children,he's not.. Merry soon has Pippin out of the blindfold, and trys to make him understand this hobbits played a bad joke. Pippin trust to easily, and that could hurt him in the future. So freddy and Merry agree on the following day to take him on a fishing trip...After all someone needs to watch after Pippin... Someone should get those hobbit children for what they did... Lovely, sorry I went on to long...

Oh poor Pip! It's a good thing Merry and Freddy came by and are so sweet for him :)
Author's reply
Yes, Pip is very lucky to have the older lads looking out for him like they do. He is far too trusting on his own. Merry will see to things.
Elenar · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry
Poor Pip! I loved this! Its a very lovely and touching moment between the cousins. I love seeing Merry look out for Pippin! By the way, I think you might have meant 'ridicule' instead of 'reticule' in the first paragraph.
Author's reply
Thanks for the spelling correction. My spell-checker hates me. LOL I corrected it and now it makes much more sense. So glad you enjoyed this and thank you for the review!

This was a lovely little story that made me laugh in parts and made me tear up near the end. As usual, you did a beautiful job. :)
Author's reply
Thank you! It was my first older-Merry and Pippin-tale so I am pleased to hear that it went over well. Thank you for reviewing and I am happy to have given you a laugh with this one.
Elenar · 11 February 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another
I loved this! Its very sweet:) I really liked how you wrote it so we didn't know how old they were until near the end. I don't usually read stories set in this time period because they're so often sad, but I really enjoyed this! It made for a very nice break in a midnight paper wrting session :)
Author's reply
I don't like sad stories very much. They can be sad in the middle or at the beginning, but I do like to end things on a happy note. I am a bit like Bilbo with his ending, "And he lived happily ever after until the end of his days." I like to think of Merry and Pippin in that way. Glad that you stopped by on your break and thank you for the review! Hope the writing went well!
Pipinheart · 11 February 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another
Even as they have grown older some things will never change the love they hold for each other. Pippin is frightened the snap of a twig and the russling of the trees, but ut is they are camping too close to things that happen long ago and he is frightened. At first Merry dosen't understand, but soon relizes. He trys to lighten pippins mood as to say he is too old,and anything out there would laugh at him with a sword in hand(Quite funny).... But as Pippin settles down Merry does relize as he is curled beside Pippin that he will never be to old to watch after Pippin as he has always done... Love this one...Great job...
Author's reply
Thank you! Another of your lovely reviews! I do enjoy them. Glad that you liked this one.

Hullo, Grey Wonderer! How ya doin'? What can I say--once again you've outdone yourself. Not many stories out there of those beloved white-haired hobbits of ours. Loved this one--even after all these years, Merry is still his cousin's protector. There's just that special G.W. ingredient that makes this particular M&P pair unique...the banter that is so funny and amusing! Thank you so much for sharing your hobbit-world. :-) Pippinfan

Hey, long time no hear from. Hope you are well and writing. Drop me an email and let me know how things are going. Thanks for reading this one. I was trying to do something slightly different here and I am glad to see that you enjoyed it. I do think I may write a bit more on this time line if the mood continues to strike. Thanks for stopping by! Don't be gone too long!
GamgeeFest · 9 February 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another
Pippin has a point about that troll. Cute and very touching. I loved seeing Merry through Pippin's eyes, and it's fun to see that even though they're old, they haven't stopped their bantering.
Author's reply
I like to think that they kept right on teasing one another and acting like a couple of lads when they were allowed until the very end. But, I am a sucker for a happy ending! Thanks for the review!
hobbit_lass · 9 February 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another
That was very well done! I was totally fooled, until Pip gave Merry's age--Bravo!

Good to hear. I wanted it to be a surprise that they were at that point in time which is why I didn't print the quote from the book until after the story was over. LOL Glad you liked it.
melilot hill · 9 February 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another
Very sweet story! You had me fooled several times, lol. AT first I thought it was during the Quest, then I thought it was pre-Quest until I finally found out it was post-Quest. Very cleverly done :D

Thank you! I hoped that their ages would come as a surprise when people read this one. Thank you for the sweet review!
