Andrea · 26 August 2009 · Chapter 26: March 25

"Good things come to those who wait" it is said. And this little story is very good. Merry is right, Frodo would not have liked a big party. And I doubt that most of the hobbits would have understood what exactly was celebrated. The travellers would have been forced to recount their quest and that would have been painful - not only for Frodo. Little Elanor, however, arrived at the best possible day and made her uncle Frodo very happy :)

Thank you so much for reading, Andrea! :)

Dreamflower · 25 August 2009 · Chapter 26: March 25

Oh! Oh how wonderful to see a new hobbit story from you! ((((hugs))))) This was lovely-- Pippin, all earnestness and Tookish enthusiasm, wanting to see Frodo honored and properly acknowledged, and Merry, knowing Frodo just a little better, knowing that a big celebration is the last thing he would want on that day. And at the end, it's Sam who's provided just the right thing to celebrate the day (with Rose's help, of course. *grin*) This was truly delightful-- I've missed your stories!

((hugs)) Thank you so much for this lovely response. I am so grateful to still have you reading and reviewing! I love your perfect sum-up of the story too. I have missed Hobbits lately and have just taken to reading LotR again so I'm definitely hoping to catch up on stories I've missed and maybe finish off some of the other fics that got abandoned. Thank you again so much for your support!!

shirebound · 25 August 2009 · Chapter 26: March 25

Oh, I've missed you! This is a lovely story, and a very creative idea.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Shirebound! I have been nostalgic for my hobbitses lateley and hope to spend time catching up on what I've missed! Thank you again :D

Larner · 25 August 2009 · Chapter 26: March 25

Ah. March 25, and Frodo has the one gift he needs in Elanor. Yes, she is perfect! And it is TOO bad most Hobbits didn't care to know what really happened.

Author's reply

Yes it is! Thank you so much, as ever, for reading and for your comments. :D

Pipkin Sweetgrass · 4 June 2006 · Chapter 25: Real

Hi! This was sad and lovely, loved Pippin's little thoughts here, poor homesick little dear...but honestly I need you to email me. You've been nominated by me for a MEFA award and my message to you a ff.net must not have gone through. Do contact me, please?

pipspebble · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 22: Passing the Time

Oh, this is so sweet! Lovesick Pippin! How could anybody not love that? Beautiful!

Dana · 10 October 2005 · Chapter 22: Passing the Time

Oh, I love this story. I want to hug the stuffing out of it, which might sound distressing, but this really is so lovely. I absolutely love Pippin here, and poor Merry, suffering because there's been no word from Long Cleeve. A moment later his face lit up and he beamed at Merry and laughed, and read on, reaching absently for a chunk of bread as he did so, and Merry grinned and kissed his cousin on the brow, sighing with relief that his cousin need not die of heartbreak, at least not today. That? Is just love. I heartily approve.

Larner · 30 July 2005 · Chapter 22: Passing the Time

A Pippin unable to eat for the sake of love is quite the image to think on.

Larner · 30 July 2005 · Chapter 23: Picnic

This must be the third time or so I've read this one, and it is still charming and delightful, with Merry wondering if he can in the future direct Pippin while it's really the other way around from the start. Such a normal baby!

Larner · 30 July 2005 · Chapter 25: Real

A heartfelt plea, I can see. Lovely imagery, lovely realization about Aragorn's destiny and the difference between mortal and immortal grandmothers. Alas, Pippin--feels quite displaced, I can tell.

Daffy Maiden · 29 May 2005 · Chapter 24: A Walking Song

I love it! Boromir is my favourite character and you got him exactly right!

Larner · 22 May 2005 · Chapter 24: A Walking Song

"Down from the door where it began...." Yes, a wonderful song to teach a soldier who knows too little of peace.

Larner · 22 May 2005 · Chapter 20: Swordthain

Excellent Merry POV. Yes, Pip never ought to have gone like that.

Larner · 22 May 2005 · Chapter 19: Unspeakable

The memory of that shadow must be overwhelming.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 24: A Walking Song

Ah, poor Boromir--I knew him, Galadriel. How oft I smiled into his increasingly obsessed eyes---- To think of him finding himself singing Tom's own song when it was driving him crazy with repetition has made me laugh aloud!

Author's reply

Thank you, I'm so glad it made you laugh! Poor Boromir, indeed... Thank you also for taking the time to leave so many lovely comments. It brightened my day to read them, and they are so encouraging! I'm really so glad you enjoyed the stories :)

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 17: A Light in Dark Places

OH, I truly love this one, the hope that Eowyn will give over her depression and accept the wondrous gift of Faramir's love. And Merry in the midst of it all!

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I think the bonds between those three (and Pippin too, of course) are fascinating. I'd love to explore in more detail the time they spent together in Minas Tirith once the others had left for battle.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 13: Nightfall

Yes, it could be any of the three of them, I think. Lovely look at loss of innocence fulfilled by the love of a good hobbitess.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 10: Through the Ages

Ah, I remember reading this one, too, and find it fascinating still.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 9: Precious Things

Ah, but Pippin isn't always the focus of attention! He gets enough of his own, and well earned at that. Thanks for this one--second time I've read it, and I appreciate it more each time I do.

Author's reply

Thanks! I'm so pleased you liked this one, seeing as it's quite a departure from what I usually write. :)

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 7: Among the Great

Yes, almost all of the truly wise went aboard that ship. Lovely moments.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 5: Athelas

Ah--athelas, the calling of the King, the love of his beloved cousin--all bringing Merry back from the brink of darkness back to the light of day in the Houses of healing. Lovely imagery.

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes, what a perfect way of describing it :)

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Peace

Ah, an "if only" moment. Pippin will learn that it isn't over until it is over, but at least it IS over here in the King's city.

Larner · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 1: Happily Ever Afterwards

A gentle, yet sad hope. I know one day we must know the end of the tale, yet it is so often grievous when that day comes.

Author's reply

Yes, indeed. I imagine Pippin finding it quite a comfort to listen to childhood stories that end happily, when his own story is still far from over, and so uncertain.

Armariel · 26 April 2005 · Chapter 24: A Walking Song

Cute!!! I feel Boromir's pain, having had to put up with pesky young'uns and their infernal racket, and suppressing the urge to tell them to shut the....up! lol

Author's reply

Thanks, Armariel! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I relate to Boromir too, however adorable I think Pippin is! Thanks for reading :)

Bodkin · 25 April 2005 · Chapter 24: A Walking Song

'Boromir was now entirely glad he would never meet him.' I'm with Boromir here. And full of sympathy for the poor chap who has an interminably irritating song stuck in his brain. (I was infected only this morning with a repetitive snippet of song. So I know how he feels.) I like the way he feels the hobbits are far too young and innocent to learn his ribald soldiers' songs. He will probably be even more surprised by them when he gets to know them better.

Author's reply

Yes, I sympathise with Boromir too - the idea for the story came out of having an irritating song on the brain, and it wasn't too much of a stretch to think of something equally annoying that the hobbits could sing! I'm glad you liked Boromir's stance on the soldiers' songs, and I agree that they would keep surprising him as the journey went on. I like to imagine the ways they might do that :) Anyway, thank you for your comments, and for reading!
