· Chapter 29: Temptation
Wow - though Tolkien definitely states that the Ring called to all the Fellowship IMHO - it is decidedly tempting Legolas - and with good reasons.
Author's reply
It was interesting to think how the Ring would tempt each person, and how it would twist strengths like love and loyalty to evil.
I've also written a longer story where the Ring tries to seduce Elrohir just before the Fellowship leaves Rivendell.

· Chapter 27: Why?
Nice! I really like your Thranduil...
Author's reply
Thank you - I rather like him myself!
I'm sure Thranduil's first reaction was shock and anger when he realised the deadly role Legolas had taken - what parent wouldn't think that?

· Chapter 84: Hide And Seek
That would detract from the game, I'm certain! Heh! Poor lads--deprived of one of the joys of childhood by their connection as twins and Elrond's sons.
Author's reply
*Grin* They knew there was something they were missing - but I'm sure there were compensations, like *always* having someone to play with!

· Chapter 83: Breaking
Wow! Very powerful! You can really see and hear and feel this one clearly. Great imagery and it is perfect for this event/moment. Really well done!
Author's reply
Poor Elrond. This moment of realisation must have been terrible for him - and nothing was ever the same again.

· Chapter 82: Before The Gate
I have always been fascinated with E2, Legolas and Aragorn facing battle where their (fore)fathers stood in battle an Age before. I like your picture of the twins here, exactly as I image them, united, naturally.
Author's reply
I love writing about the twins - and they are always together, no matter where they are, or whatever the circumstances. I can't imagine them facing these odds alone - and Tolkien *said* they were both there, together!

· Chapter 83: Breaking
I could feel his heart break with the shattered crystal. Great job.
Author's reply
Thanks!
I liked making the analogy with the broken glass, Elrond's heart, and the peace of Imladris. They all shattered at the same time :(

· Chapter 83: Breaking
Knowing the gifts he held, Elrond must have cursed them at the time. But better to know than to remain in ignorance.
How well that moment must have happened just so.
Author's reply
I don't think this was Elrond's foresight, but more the bond he had with his wife. However it happened, it must have been a dreadful moment of realisation.

· Chapter 82: Before The Gate
Elrond's sons do tend to do things doubly, after all. Excellent.
Author's reply
*Grin*
And Tolkien *told* us that they were together, at the front, 'where the first bitter assault would come'. I love it when my fantasies tie in with canon!

· Chapter 22: A Brother's Prayer
Elladan talking; Elrohir dying.... Oh dear!
In all likelihood, it was the result of chasing Orcs. Indestructable Elves? Not quite that!
Author's reply
Yes, you got the POV right! This was a one-shot scene that came to me, but I wanted to explore the idea and it ended up as an entire story, 'Along Came A Spider': http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=2808

· Chapter 21: Arwen's Birth Day
Great job with the challenge and much fun! Loved them saluting Arwen's birth!
Author's reply
For some reason, many of my drabbles tend to be angsty - it was nice to write something light-hearted for a change! I think the twins would have been very proud, loving older brothers.

· Chapter 19: Aftermath
Oh! This was wonderful - I didn't know who was talking. The salutation and the response were wonderful!
Author's reply
One thing with getting reviews for something I wrote so long ago is that I have to go back and read it to remind myself why I posted it in the first place!
Poor Thranduil must have longed for news of his son after the terrible battles.

Author's reply
I have to think that the twins sailed together, and were reunited with their parents. Celebrían must have missed them so much!

Okay, that was powerful! Wow! Very angsty and nicely done! Of course everything you write is nicely done, but that usually goes without saying.
Author's reply
I'm glad you liked this, but I wish it could have been a little happier. Poor Elrond :(

Really nicely done imagery here, Jay. The dropped drink, the ripples of stillness, the well of silence. And of course the impact of that final word.
Author's reply
Thanks, Daw - I know you don't really *do* drabbles!
I could picture this scene so clearly, but it was difficult to find the right words to describe it. I'm glad you liked the image of Elrond at the centre of a well of silence - I juggled with that phrase through several changes!

· Chapter 83: Breaking
WOW. So few words yet, the heartrending anguish conveyed.
Great job.
Author's reply
Poor Elrond. This sudden, shattering knowledge must have nearly broken him. Yet despite this loss - after so many - he still kept going :/

· Chapter 83: Breaking
Poor Elrond.
Yet is it worse to know that your world is shattered at once? Or to be left feeling guilty because you were having fun with your friends while your beloved was being tormented? Don't know. But I do so agree that, from this point on, the tranquillity established in Imladris had become little more than a fragile echo of previous happiness.
I hope he was able to recover his happiness in the Blessed Realm. Although, of course, he then had another grief to bear.
(Apologies for the repetition.)
Author's reply
Of course I don't mind the repetition :) I cross-post most things because I know some people read here at SoA, and others on LJ - and some read both!
The moment of knowing is terrible no matter when it comes. Feelings of guilt added to that can only make matters worse :(

· Chapter 82: Before The Gate
I think that all those who went to the Black Gate must have made their peace with death before they began the march. After all - they cannot have expected to survive it. And death would be infinitely preferable to surviving this battle - unless, of course, Frodo pulled off the miracle. (Hurrah for Frodo!)
Great bit of E2!
Author's reply
I think E2 went to the battle quite prepared to die. The only thing they'd wish for would be that one did not outlive the other for long :(

· Chapter 6: We Are Not The Same
I like the 'chafe to be ourselves' - pretty neat!
Author's reply
I imagine that most twins, though they love their other half, sometimes just want to be themselves, and not one of a pair. Elven twins, with their long lifespan, probably feel this even more!

· Chapter 5: The Dead Marshes
Absolutely gorgeous thought - that some of the heroes of that day did not let the enemy did not get away entirely.
And I LOVE the part about Oropher and Thranduil!
Author's reply
I thought it made sense that the orcs and Easterlings who fled would be pursued across the marshes - and who better than Legolas, who has such history here?

· Chapter 82: Before The Gate
Moving ficlet, Jay. The reassurance of being together must have been a - albeit little - comfort in this hopeless situation. It's a scene that is missing from the books and movies both; it would've fitted well in both.
Author's reply
Thanks! I wish they'd been in the flms, but Tolkien himself said very little. I think they'd have drawn strength from facing the end together.

· Chapter 82: Before The Gate
Nice.
We don't see much of the sons of Elrond in the original, but this fits well, I think.
Author's reply
Tolkien said that they were at the front 'where the first bitter assault would come', but nothing of how they fared in the battle - apart from the fact that we know they survived. It intrigues me that Tolkien said so little, yet they seem such complex characters!
