Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 62: Kite Flying

That was cute! And I'm finally catching up - unless you have a slew of these things in hiding!

Author's reply

I'm catching up with your reviews too! For some reason I didn't get alerts for the last few. Amongst the darker, angsty drabbles, I like to write a few light-hearted ones. When I read the prompt for this, I could immediately see Elrohir hanging onto that branch!

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 61: The Watcher

OH! Nice! And I hadn't thought that the darkness would have spread that far - but why not?

Author's reply

Perhaps it wasn't just a physical darkness, but a shadow on Elrond's mind as well. He had to be feeling the strain as he tried to follow events.

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 60: Dragon's Gold

Having just finished 'The Children of Hurin' - it was fun to find this tale of yours... I had quite forgotten that Glauring did the same with his hoard in Nargothrond... Thanks for the reminder of these worms!

Author's reply

I've always rather liked dragons, so it was a shame that Tolkien made them so evil. I've got CoH - the pictures are wonderful - but haven't read it yet.

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 58: A Final Farewell

You have more courage than I, Jay - to look at such a bitter, hurtful, sad parting! I too hope that the twins were not sundered!

Author's reply

I just started thinking 'what if ...?' and had to write this. I get the feeling at the end that they both know they've made a terrible mistake :(

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 53: First Love

Beta readers can be cruel!

Author's reply

Elladan was trying to be supportive - I think he remembers his own first crushes a very long time ago. He and Elrohir will laugh about it later.

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 52: Autumn Hunt

Oh! I love the impatience of Legolas! Perfect game! I rate the jumping up a resounding '10!'

Author's reply

Some people have suggested that Thranduil keeled over from a heart attack at this point :>) I wish I could draw - I'd love to show Legolas jumping out of the leaf pile!

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 50: The Music Of The Ainur

As a singer, I very much liked this - it is so true, at first all I hear is my voice, and then, suddenly, beautiful, another joins mine and I am transported. How beautiful it must have been - until Melkor.

Author's reply

I found this quite tricky to write - although I love music, I'm not in the least musical!

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 48: Words

Beautiful and touching... so very difficult living in that age... this brought me quite close to tears....

Author's reply

Wow. I always take that as a tremendous compliment - thank you! This started out as a letter from Legolas, but then I had to show Thranduil's reaction.

Lianna · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 86: Beware Of The Sea

This is why I so admire Legolas. He believes, reasonably enough, that Galadriel has foretold his death, yet he goes on doing his job anyway, without fuss. And then, after the sea longing sets in, he stays in Middle-Earth for the rest of Aragorn's lifetime to help out, despite what must have been a constant longing to leave. He's so much more than just another pretty face.

Author's reply

Thank you for this - I've only just found the review, as I didn't get any alerts on that day. Reading that scene again, I wonder if Tolkien was intending to have Legolas die either at Pelargir, or in one of the subsequent battles. I've very glad he changed his mind! I like this aspect of Legolas too. Even with what he thought was to come, he went on the Paths of the Dead with Aragorn. He didn't have to - Theoden and the Rohirrim would have welcomed his help

daw the minstrel · 23 April 2007 · Chapter 86: Beware Of The Sea

This captures a moment well, Jay, the misunderstanding suddenly clarified. And a "bitter, lonely longing" in Legolas's heart.

Author's reply

When I was reading Galadriel's message again, I was reminded about Legolas's interpretation, 'Would you have her speak openly to you of your death?' Even though he thought it meant his death, he still followed Aragorn on the Paths of the Dead to the sea.

ellie · 18 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

How sweet!

Author's reply

Thank you! I like to show the twins as loving older brothers to Estel/Aragorn.

Agape4Gondor · 17 April 2007 · Chapter 43: Dark Elf

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh! You are the dark Elf incarnate! How could you? How dared you? But really NEAT!!! I loved the feral grin! AND that means Boromir did NOT die! Whoo hooo!

Author's reply

*Grin* I think this one made a lot of people choke - it made me blink, and I wrote it! Maybe Boromir didn't die, but Legolas probably handed them all over to the orcs ...

Agape4Gondor · 17 April 2007 · Chapter 42: To See The Sea

Oh! I love this, Jay!

Author's reply

Thanks - it's a change for me to write hobbits! It was inspired by a comment on the Took family tree which intrigued me.

Bodkin · 13 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

Ahhh! I love to think of Elrohir's wisdom and maturity offering comfort to Estel - and his words returning to support the adult Aragorn through his trials. Aragorn so needed the strength of his big brothers. He was so alone as an adult - thank goodness he had 18 years of having Elladan and Elrohir encouraging and teaching - and loving - him.

Author's reply

I'm sure the twins drew on their years of experience - and also their own darker moments - in supporting Aragorn. They knew the loneliness he would face.

Agape4Gondor · 13 April 2007 · Chapter 35: Time To Depart

Beautifully written - sadness and joy mixed together - sometimes, as when one bites into something... the first taste bud hit is the strongest tasted, but then the morsel moves to another taste bud and that is the strongest. I hope for Elladan and Elrohir's sake that the strongest feelings will finally and conclusively be joy! Thank you for a most tear-filled, hope-filled little drabble.

Author's reply

It would have been a very sad leave-taking, but I want to believe that they both sailed eventually. And what a reunion there would be with Celebrían!

Agape4Gondor · 13 April 2007 · Chapter 34: Great Minds Think Alike

*giggles* - they know each other to well - bless them! Nice drabble! Heart-warming.

Author's reply

Thanks. I can just imagine the twins carefully selecting what seemed the perfect gift for each other!

Radbooks · 12 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

I really like that, Jay. It's wonderful to have such memories to draw on during difficult times. I love the image of Aragorn and Elrohir sitting together and watching the stars together. Thanks for sharing!

Author's reply

I see Estel as very young here - probably not long after he arrived in Imladris. He and the twins were just getting to know each other, but their influence lasted. Thanks for reviewing!

Selene Aduial · 12 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

Nice pair of drabbles. The twins were always there to comfort their 'litte brother' and even now later on in his life they are still a comfort for him. Lovely.

Author's reply

I like to write the twins with little Estel and show them in a 'big brother' role. As I wrote the first part, I knew there had to be another where Aragorn remembered Elrohir's words at a time of great darkness and fear - and where better than Moria?

Larner · 12 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

A sweet pair of drabbles.

Author's reply

Thank you. They were fun to write - I like to look at the relationship between Elladan, Elrohir and Estel.

daw the minstrel · 12 April 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

That's really sweet, Jay. And also true.

Author's reply

Thanks. I like to write the twins as protective big brothers - and to have Aragorn remember that comfort.

elliska · 8 April 2007 · Chapter 84: Hide And Seek

Hehehe! The twins' connection even as elflings! I can so see that. And I love it! That was a fun, light twist on this challenge.

Author's reply

I've always written the twins as having this kind of sixth sense connection, so they were an obvious choice for the challenge (as if I needed any excuse to write about them ...) I wanted to write something fluffy after the angst of the previous entry!

Selene Aduial · 7 April 2007 · Chapter 84: Hide And Seek

ROTFL Like I said before, this is great. Those poor boys, being elven twins sure does ruin a game of hide and seek. Perhaps they should have played the game with Glorfindel and his guards, they would have been far more difficlt to find *grin*

Author's reply

Although they missed out on hide and seek, I'm sure there were compensations for the twins. At least they never lacked a partner in any games :>)

ellie · 7 April 2007 · Chapter 84: Hide And Seek

Very cute! I love it that he didn't know they were supposed to actually search for each other! But they get enough of that as wounded adults stranded in the wild now, don't they?

Author's reply

What was cute as children, and probably annoying and intrusive as adolescents, can be very useful as warriors and messengers!

Bodkin · 7 April 2007 · Chapter 84: Hide And Seek

It would have been quite a challenge, actually, for one to attempt to hide - really hide - from the other. And it might have proved quite useful - some time on a bare mountain, perhaps, when a lack of consciousness might have made the usual instincts less effective!

Author's reply

Hmm. I wonder if they could hide from each other, or conceal their thoughts and feelings, if they really tried. (Oh look - is that another plot bunny?) The fact that Elrohir was unconscious made it harder, but Elladan still knew his brother was nearby. This knack has its uses!

Agape4Gondor · 6 April 2007 · Chapter 33: The Wood Of Greenleaves

This was neat and I didn't recall reading the quote that yu used! Great to know it was these two - both from Lorien originally - now again reunited... NICE!

Author's reply

I like it when I can use a concrete canon fact in my stories and drabbles :>) I find the Appendices and Tale of Years are a treasure trove of facts and snippets to expand on. Thanks for your reviews - I'm really enjoying rereading these drabbles through your eyes!
