Grey Wonderer · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 9: Close Intervals

Love Gandalf's words about the hobbits as it shows his affection for them so very well. I am enjoying this very much.

Author's reply

I'm glad you are! I've always liked Gandalf, I just don't write him as well as I do the hobbits. PF

Grey Wonderer · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 8: Old Friends, New Friends

Just totally love Saradoc in this. So sweet and so innocent and totally smitten with the lass of his dreams.

Author's reply

Oh absolutely! He's not tainted and jaded by the pain of...life. Though even then he's still a good hobbit. Take care. Pippinfan

Arwen Baggins · 23 March 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

One little piece of advice...the flash backs should be told in the first-person POV, since Paladin, a main character in the story, is the one telling it.

Author's reply

Thank you--and I'll take that advice to heart. You're going to cringe when I tell you that I actually entertained that idea, but I had already posted the first few chapters... Then after I got to thinking about it more, I decided to leave it as is so that it wouldn't sound *too* much like Seahobbit. Gracious me! I was already doing the *flashbacks*--I forgot just how strenuous those can be, and I don't think I'll be doing it again for a long while! :-P It's almost over--thanks for taking the time to review and give advice. :-) Pippinfan

Arwen Baggins · 23 March 2004 · Chapter 6: Missing Hobbits

Well, at least we know they aren't being chased by the Black Riders!

Author's reply

Nah...too soon for those guys. Besides, I'd have nightmares writing them! Pippinfan

Pervinca · 23 March 2004 · Chapter 11: Down by the Sea

Well, you've certainly brightened my evening. Thank you! (Reading this was definitely more fun than reading journal's on Addison's disease, lol). Paladin and Addie's play-time in the sand was so gorgeous - that really is something I love about hobbits. They can always manage to be so childlike, no matter how old they may be. Hmm...I'll have to see about your poetry offer. If I manage to think up anything, I'll send it to you :) I've finished the Merry/Estella story now, so if I don't decide to start on another one (which I probably will, lol), I might just have time for writing poems.

Author's reply

If you come up with something--great, if you don't no biggie. I would hate to think I've pulled you away from your primary focuse--Addie's disease (sorry--couldn't help myself!). Poetry isn't as important as your studies. :-) Thanks for the compliment on the beach scene; I agree, hobbits are basically adults who never grew up--or at least don't let life bog them down. I'll be updating again... Take care. Pippinfan

Pearl Took · 22 March 2004 · Chapter 11: Down by the Sea

It all is lovely. I'm surprised that Paladin and Adelard survive to grow up and have families, their fathers are so upset.

Author's reply

Yeah, they could wring the lads' necks right now, but when they actually see them is another story...well, not quite 'another story'--you get the idea. Thanks Pearl! Pippinfan

Pervinca · 22 March 2004 · Chapter 9: Close Intervals

Yay! Aragorn...well, sort of :P Very clever how you've worked he and Elrond's sons into the story, especially since they will all one day meet Paladin's son and nephew! I do have one complaint - you didn't write the songs! I wanted to read what they were singing, but I can understand why you might not have wanted to write them. I'm sure you remember my terrible attempt at poetry :P Here's another review to brighten your morning - be a darl and leave me another chapter to brighten my evening ;)

Author's reply

Ah...so you *know* Thorongil, eh? It's not always simple working Gandalf, Thorongil, *and* Elrond's sons into a story. I had to go to the appendices for the believability measures; where exactly were they, and what were they doing in 1357 (2957)? I remember your *attempt* at poetry, and I thought it was rather good! It's *my* poetry that leaves much to be desired! :-P If I were talented in the poetry department, then I would do it. If the chapter seems kind of naked for not having it...well, you know the deal! lol.... I'll post it and give you full credit! I still have yet to work in the gifts as Grey Wonderer asked...she's getting credit for that, too! Pearl got to hold "her" little brother so anything can happen! The new chapters are almost finished--gotta stop talking so I can polish them up to brighten your evening! Thank you for reading and reviewing! Pippinfan

Elena Tiriel · 22 March 2004 · Chapter 9: Close Intervals

Hi Pippin Fan, I just discovered this story, and I'm really enjoying it! I love the family dynamics -- cute and mischievous hobbit kids, adults overprotective of both their kids and their elders, tweens using excuses (pepper! that was funny!) to get to know each other better, adults knowing exactly what the tweens are doing... it's all here. And Gandalf, too! Will look forward to the next chapters... Thank you! - Barbara P.S. Instead of 'conveyance', I think you want to use 'convenience', which is a British term for water closet...

Author's reply

Hello Elena/Barbara, You are a blessing--and thank you! I have made the change in chapter nine. The next chapters are almost ready and will be posted this afternoon (EST). Thank you for taking the time to read and review. Take care. Pippinfan

Pearl Took · 21 March 2004 · Chapter 9: Close Intervals

Thank you! :) I love remembering those days of holding my dear younger brother on my lap. He was sweet then and is sweet now, just much to big for my lap! I'm glad to see that Man is impressed with us Hobbits!

Author's reply

I'm so sorry!! :-( I thought I already answered your review...I feel like the village idiot. I *was* going to get cheeky and say he's not too big for my lap, but now, after my brain f*rt, I'll swallow my foot instead. Mmmmm! Pippinfan

Pervinca · 21 March 2004 · Chapter 7: Tookmoot

I love this story! It's so interesting to see the characters that are usually the (sometimes) responsible parents in fics as the immature children! I think you've done a good job in making Paladin a little like Pippin, but not quite. And though Addie takes on the "older cousin" role, he's certainly not Merry! You'd better hurry up soon! I'm as anxious as Cousin Merry to find out who is chasing the adventurers :P

Author's reply

Thank you, Pervinca--very observant! Yes, I have depicted them as having a "Pippin/Merry" type relationship, but not altogether the same. I have written Paladin a bit more independent. I always look forward to your reviews in the morning--well, the morning here, anyway! Thank you so much for taking the time to review! I'll be checking out more of Just to Be With You! Great story, I might add! :-) Take care. Pippinfan

Pearl Took · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 7: Tookmoot

That was a good lunch. The fire is just warm enough while not too hot, and this wonderful story continues. It is always great fun to hear about one's parents ;) Pearl Took

Author's reply

I'm glad you're enjoying the story--and the stew! I made it myself! (yeah, right) Continue to listen to "your" father's story, and eventually, your little brother may end up in your lap--thought I was joking, eh? ;-) It's coming up... THank you so much for reading and reviewing! Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 7: Tookmoot

Poor Esmeralda and Bilbo! Both are taking the blame on this one. Add to that in Esmeralda's case that she is having to join forces with that Saradoc Brandybuck! LOL Good thing too or no Merry for later stories. You've made me hungry with the stew and so I am off to eat. Post a few more chapters while I'm out why don't you? (hint, hint)

Author's reply

Because they are trustworthy--I guess I'm sort of making a statement in that Saradoc wasn't always the "odd" sort in his son's life. Esmeralda wouldn't marry a jerk. He's really a good guy--er, hobbit at heart! Seems we all like chicken stew...or are all just hungry! Thanks for reading and reviewing! :-) PF

Grey Wonderer · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 6: Missing Hobbits

Paladin and Adelard have a Pippin/Merry relationship don't they? I like that becuase it helps connect the past to the present. Very well done and the presence of Bilbo is always a welcome thing for me. And Bilbo with Sting! You make me so happy, PF!

Author's reply

Yes they do--thank you for noticing! Oh, there's more than Bilbo appearing in this one; wait until next chapter! :-) Thank you so much for your reviews! Yes, I do believe you're correct about us all having similar tastes! PF

Pervinca · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 5: Schemes

Oh, Saradoc and Esmeralda! So cute. I loved Merry's reaction to that. Essie's a little like Pervinca, trying to get in on the lads' schemes! Lol, and by "my Ev", I was refering to Everard Took! After all, his father is a part of this story. Hehehe, sorry for confusing you like that (and, yes, I am too young to have a child :P). More soon, pretty please :)

Author's reply

It's the Took in them... Took ladies don't sit on their laurels! ;-) Ah!! I am happy to be corrected on that point! Yes, but Reggie is barely a twinkle in his father's eyes, let only Ev! lol... More is coming... Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 5: Schemes

“Kissing? I thought Momma said the coach brought Merry here?” The poor child had no idea why the other children burst out laughing. LOL Now that's funny! My favorite line in a very interesting chapter. I will be waiting for more.

Author's reply

Poor little Pip--only five years old; he's so cute, though. More's coming up...thanks for reviewing! PF

Grey Wonderer · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 4: Trapped

Love the way this moves back and forth between Paladin's children and then moves back into the story. Reminds me of Seahobbit in that way, oh and becuase Isengar is in both, but it is your ability to move the story between the past and the present that I enjoy. It works very well!

Pearl Took · 19 March 2004 · Chapter 5: Schemes

This is so much fun. I feel I'm sitting on the rug before the fire at Great Smials listening to Paladin tell his tale with a wee cute Pippin curled up on his lap.

Author's reply

That child is adorable at at *any* age! ;-) Glad you feel cozy; pull up a pillow and get comfortable! I'll even let Pippin sit in your lap for a while. :-) Thank you for your lovely response--I always look forward to yours. Pippinfan

Pervinca · 19 March 2004 · Chapter 3: The South Garden

Hurray! A new story. I like where this one is going. The idea of Paladin telling a story is very cute, and the children were all adorable. Pity my Ev wasn't there too ;) I have a pretty good guess of who the letter is *really* from, but I'd like to know what it actually says! Please hurry up :P

Author's reply

Your Ev? You have a child??? You aren't old enough to have a child, Pervinca--at least, I don't *think* you are! Thanks, but I couldn't really go over the contents of the letter immediately; it would've given the story away. Keep looking for it, it'll come up eventually! Thank you for reading and reviewing! :-) Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 3: The South Garden

This is going to be very interesting. Does Pippin ever find out what sort of presnt his father got at the party? LOL Sorry, but I had to ask. This is very differnet and I am enjoying it very much. You always give me something good to read! Thanks!

Author's reply

I thought about that...at first, I thought like Paladin..."it doesn't matter, Pippin." But now that you mention it, there is certain birthday present that *Bilbo* has given Paladin (his birthday isn't far off, either) that I've mentioned in stories past. One story isn't posted here, but at ff.net (Simple Life). I briefly mentioned "them" in Joking Aside, but I have never mentioned "when" or "how" Bilbo came to give them to him. Perhaps I could wriggle it in...thank you, Grey Wonderer--and I'll mention it was your suggestion! I *am* blushing--I am my own worst critic! :-P Thank you for your kindness, and for reviewing!
