Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 15: One Month Later...

WONDERFUL ENDING TO A WONDERFUL STORY!!!!! I burst out laughing when Merry said,"Not a word." Oh, gosh that was funny! You have to write another story like this! This is the third story I have read of yours and it was just as good as the others(although I don't know how Where Roses Grow ends..another great story!) Once again, terrific story! -Hobbits Soul

Author's reply

Oh, you've made my day, Hobbits Soul! I do love this little tale, and I'm glad that another was able to enjoy it. Thank you for all your kind words of encouragement--in every single chapter! :-O Few people realize that leaving a review takes time...and I thank you for every single one. :-) Have a wonderful, blessed weekend, and thank you for reading The Storyteller! Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 14: The Aftermath

Adelard and lasses! It is very funny! This is just a question..what do wheelchairs look like in the Shire? Are they made of wood? Just wondering....great chapter!

Author's reply

I felt I was exploring Paladin's childhood sweetheart story with Eglantine in the "present" world, why not show at leas a slightly hormonal Adlelard? No harm done, except for him looking at the lasses--no matter what "kind" they were! Elf lasses, hobbit lasses...just lasses in general! :-P Wheelchairs...I'd have to say yes. Most everything was made from wood, and I believe wheelchairs were no different. Wheelchairs did exist way back yonder. They were fashioned a bit differently than the ones you see today; I envisioned a higher back, flatter wooden wheels (hard on the backside!), and made of a lighter but sturdy wooden material. No good pushing a heavy-weight! My best guess is to plunk in the phrase "wheel chair, history" into your search engine and you may find more than you'll ever want to know! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

I love what you did with the pink seashell! It was so sweet! Great chapter..sort of sad..but good.

Author's reply

Yes...the lovely pink seashell...there had to be "living" proof of his little journey. A souvenir, if you will. :-) You know--I've had to re-read this story in order to keep up with you! It's been a while since I last read it, and I've noticed a couple errors that I need to repair in the coming days, but I also noticed that I ought to show a little better the emotions of Adalgrim and Flambard. Yes, they were angry--and most parents would be if their teenagers had taken off to places unknown. But more than that, both fathers were relieved to see that their lads had returned safe and unharmed. Paladin and Adelard's punishments could wait until they had at least arrived home. The heartache of missing home, parents, and children was a bit of what I wanted to convey. Thank you, Hobbits Soul! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 12: Waiting Together

Pippin! He's so cute! Him and the firewood and also the puddles! My little cousin does that all the time...jumping in puddles and getting in trouble! And Merry is so sweet...he's great, too! I feel like I know so much about Paladin, just from your story.Great work!

Author's reply

Pippin being five years old...I couldn't resist! :-) Your little cousin sounds like he could be Pippin's cousin, too...LOL! Merry *is* a sweet and thoughtful (and mischievous!) young lad--I'm glad you like him! Paladin...I always imagined "Like Father, Like Son" (sounds like a great movie, too!), so if we think that Pippin is loving, sweet, a mischief maker, clever, and loyal to the end, then I believe he learned it all from his father. Pippin is a mirror-image of Paladin--and then some! Thank you Hobbits Soul for taking the time to read through this wee tale! Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 11: Down by the Sea

I love running up and down the beach..it's so much fun! I hope there will be no more half orcs or any other evil creature...they give me the creeps, especially Nazguls....brrrr.=)Love the chapter!

Author's reply

Well...there you have one "up" on me! I love the ocean, but I only like the beach at sunset or sunrise, walking on the wet part. I don't particularly like the gritty little bits inside my sandles, hair, or elsewhere! :-P No, no more Orcs...except a dead one. Thanks again! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 10: The Havens

Another great chapter! I don't know how Hobbits could fear boats...my uncle has a boat and I ride on it whenever I have a chance! It's so much fun!

Author's reply

Actually, the hobbits around Buckland are *not* afraid of boats...that is how Frodo's parents died--in a boating accident. And when the hobbits and company leave Lothlorien, Merry tells Celeborn...or was it Galadriel?, but he firmly stated that he was not afraid of boats and could handle one. Yes--I like boats, too! I have a love for the ocean imbedded in my blood... I don't sail anymore, but I love the ocean. Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 9: Close Intervals

Mmmmm...apple slices and hot cider...can Hobbits live any better? Great chapter!Do you know what's good..apple slices with cinnamon...yummmm! P.S. Apples are my favorite fruit!

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Old Friends, New Friends

Gandalf and Elves...wonderful! I like Hobbits the most , but it's good to have Elves and Wizards once in awhile! When Sara kissed Essie, I bet Pippin and Merry shriveled up their noses and cringed!!! Funny, little Hobbit lads!

Author's reply

LOL...I *did* entertain that thought, however, they already "Eewwed" the kiss at the wagon some chapters ago. :-) Gandalf was desined for this story at the inception, but Thorongil and the Elves only came in when I read of their happenings in the appendices. Thanks for reading! Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 7: Tookmoot

Cute, little Pippin! "They had to get married..they kissed!" What a Pipish thing to say! The story is getting really exciting!

Author's reply

This is my "canon" Pippin, if you will. Cute, clever, witty, spoiled rotten by his "pen mom", and an all-round delightful hobbit...Merry coming in right behind him! ;-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 6: Missing Hobbits

Who are the dark riders?! Are they Orcs? I guess I'm going to have to read further on to find out. Great chapter...like usual.:)

Author's reply

Yes, you will eventually see "who" it was that was chasing them in the next chapter... I got some of the material for Gandalf and Thorongil in the appendices, as I did for Seahobbit...which is a sort of "prequel" to this story. Thanks for reading! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 5: Schemes

Ha,ha! Merry is sooo funny! And I think Adelard is hilarious as well! This was a very funny chapter!

Author's reply

That's my Merry...! I can't stay too serious for too long. Life is pretty much like that, too... Thank you! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 4: Trapped

Great chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you! :-)

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 3: The South Garden

This has really nothing to do with the chapter, but you write so well! Every word is important, every phrase and sentence is detailed so vividly! I love reading your writing! You have talent of writing stories!=)

Author's reply

Goodness! No matter who or how often someone tells me that, it still amazes me and humbles me-and it always will. I am honestly, quite pleasantly surprised by your compliments and encouragement! Thank you! :-) Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 2: A Special Birthday

Isengar sounds a lot like Bilbo! I loved it when Merry asked,"What did he give you? A lump of coal?" LOL That was great! I'm going straight to the other chapter!

Author's reply

LOL...my cheeky Merry! I love him just as much as I love my just-as-cheeky Pippin! As you read further, Paladin and Adelard will begin to behave and sound a bit like another pair of lovable and famous hobbits! Pippin and Merry... Pippinfan

Hobbits Soul · 10 July 2004 · Chapter 1: Story Time

So far it's a great story! I love the part when Pippin hides behind Paladin! I could picture that so clearly!

Author's reply

Why thank you, Hobbits Soul! Well, as the poor lad is the youngest and smallest of all the children, he required a bit of an iron shield for protection from them...thinking he'd find it in his father! He did...to an extent. ;-) Wow...this is great! Another avid reader! This story was borne out of the need to explain and fulfill various aspects of some of my other stories...pathetic, isn't it? I get my plot bunnies from my own stories! :-P Thanks for all of your kind responses--and I plan to reply to each one! :-) Pippinfan

Pervinca · 26 March 2004 · Chapter 15: One Month Later...

I thought that little scene at the beginning of this chapter might have been for me ^-^ Thank you, I loved it. Even just a little hint into the Paladin/Eglantine romance is good enough for me (for now anyway ;P). Lovely ending to a lovely story, especially cousin Merry's reply, hehehehe. Six children? Is that something I've missed from another story, or you just hinting at something? Well, now that you've finished that one, you can work harder on the other couple you told me that you had! :P

Author's reply

Darn--can't get anything past you, either! lol... Yes, it *is* for you! :-) The six children was my hint, not a story *yet*; I figure with 6 yrs between Pimpernel and Pervinca and 5 yrs between Pervinca and Pippin, there has to be a couple sad moments in their lives. Yes...perhaps a third plot bunny... Oy, mamma mia. I'm just now constructing the outline for Pervinca's story... I may ask *you* for advice along the way... I thank you, dear friend, for reading the story, and for your kind reviews! Pippinfan

A wonderful, wonderful story! Thank you for the mention and you are most welcome for any help I have been to you.

Pearl, you are *always* a help to me! With all your encouragement and extra eyes, I am most grateful. Thank you, for reading and taking the time to review. Take care. Pippinfan

Dreamflower · 25 March 2004 · Chapter 15: One Month Later...

This was such a lovely story! And I'm so *glad* it didn't end the way I thought it would, with Isengar dying. I love the idea of Bilbo's relationship with the generation in between himself and Frodo, too. Thanks for a great read!

Author's reply

Well, as for Isengar, that may be another plot bunny on down the road, but not now. As for Bilbo--I'm glad you picked up on the Mid-generational thing. It's one of the main reasons why I wanted to include him in the story; sort of Isengar handing down the proverbial adventure-baton down to Bilbo, and then Bilbo to Frodo and the others. Thank *you* for reading and taking the time to review! Take care. Pippinfan

Pearl Took · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

The meeting of fathers and sons was perfect! And I love Paladin being so pleased with himself for figuring out a way to entertain the children. This is such a delightfull story.

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl! Your encouragement has always meant a lot to me. Your stories are a must-read for anyone who likes Tooks! :-) Take care. Pippinfan

Dreamflower · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

I usually try to avoid reading "in progress"--it's so *frustrating* to have to wait-- but you've been so nice to me! So I went ahead with this one. What fun! I had not really thought much about Gandalf's previous interactions in the Shire, although it's clear that he was busy there even before Bilbo! I like your Isengar very much; and don't over-enthusiastice caregivers everywhere make the same mistake in underestimating the elderly? I do hope it's finished soon though!

Author's reply

lol..you won't have to wait too long; I usually post quickly, though I had an important errand to run this morning, I might be a tad late today. The story is drawing down to an end, so again, it won't be long now--I rarely go past ten chapters. I like Isengar, too; if you want to read more about him, I have a story called Gandalf and the Seahobbit where he is featured, if you're interested. Take care. Pippinfan P.S. My you've been busy posting today! I gotta get the next chapters up, but afterward, I'll be checking out Buckland again.

Pervinca · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

Aww! Loved the reunions - I think I just love reunions in general! And hopefully there'll be more in the next chapter when they get back to the Smials. That little hint of Eglantine being in love with Adelard before Paladin was great! Do I detect the begginings of another story? Or at least a more thorough explanation in this one!:)

Author's reply

Well...I think she was pulling Paladin's leg on that one, but yes, it would be nice to write a love story between Paladin and Eglantine. I imagine them as childhood sweethearts, but I'm afraid I think it would only be you and I reading it! Thank you for taking the time to review! Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 13: Sad Partings

)looking over to the pink sea-shell lying on her vanity.) Question answered and in a very nice way. Just knew that had to still be somewhere! LOL

Author's reply

Like I said--can't get anything by you! :-) PF

Grey Wonderer · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 12: Waiting Together

If Merry gets to go on a ‘venture, can I go too, Papa?” Shades of their future adventures. Love the way you work this in.

Author's reply

Yes, my wink at the future Fellowship! I couldn't help myself... Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 24 March 2004 · Chapter 11: Down by the Sea

Now wondering what happened to the lovel pink shell. Wonder if it will turn up again?

Author's reply

lol...oh yeah...keep reading! Can't get anything passed you! :-) Pippinfan
