“The Lady did WHAT?” *dies* Oh, I almost wept at that last conversation between Merry and Pippin... I just adore them so much... Argh, you're so darn good! *pounds desk in a brief fit of jealously* I'm better. Loving this story greatly, as with all your others. Are we ever going to get to hear the story of Elrond's courting of Celebrian, I wonder? ;-) (I shall e-mail you soon!) ^_^ -Minty

Frodo couldn’t open his eyes… he couldn’t move. Strong arms gathered him up and lifted him, cradling him gently. The weakness and fever he had nearly forgotten about closed in on him once more. So hot and dizzy… voices… Shirebound, one line of angst/comfort from you does more for me than chapters and chapters of other stories. You are truly the master . . . I really believe that the powerful emotion of your a/c comes from the way you portray Frodo. He is a true hero, who tries to do his best for his friends, and then struggles to find the way home after all the pain and adventure has changed him. Truly Tolkien's vision. Just love it, love it, love it! Thanks for all your hard work and for sharing your vision with us!

“Are you keeping Merry awake?” Elrond suddenly appeared at Celeborn’s side and led his father-in-law away. “How very inconsiderate of you.” I love that line! Elrond sounds so smug. And you had Elrond caring for Frodo. You know how much I like that combination. *hugs*

Yet another fantastic chapter in this ongoing story. Evidently Saruman is still capable of mischief, despite losing a great deal of his power. I laughed at the thought of Gandalf being a 'difficult patient' - one can only imagine how stubborn he could be when the situation called for it. After reading this chapter, and seeing how Frodo manages to call Merry back using the ring, I admit I am curious to see just what other hidden abilities hobbits might have. It just proves what Gandalf himself said: "Hobbits are such amazing creatures...you can learn everything there is to know about them in a month, and yet they can still surprise you." Well done!

What a great chapter! So full of love. And without a cliffhanger this time :)

Bluegrass Elf · 14 May 2004 · Chapter 9: Knowledge of the Heart

Lady Jaina · 14 May 2004 · Chapter 9: Knowledge of the Heart

I loved this chapter and was please to find that Frodo would me okay--though in my heart I had hoped he would become worse--thus is the mind of the angst writer. Great job. I particulary enjoyed the parts with the trapped Merry when Frodo came to get him!!! As always, it was spectacular. Thank you for giving my nails time to grow back (LOL).

Oh, what a gentle chapter. Frodo calling Merry back was wonderful. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that only a someone so close to him could have brought him back. Oh, and the imagery of being inside a jewel was cool. clever idea that. Merry worrying about Pippin while Pippin worries about him is so tipical of those two. So, you said to another reviewer that Merry's hidden gift will be revealed, probably in ch.10. I can't wait to see what you have in mind for him. As Gandalf has said before, hobbits really are amazing. Your response to me at the end of ch.8 finally pushed me to start writing. It's only five pages so far, but it's a start. And I owe it to you. Thanks. Connie.

*Closes eyes and sighes contentedly* Ummmmm! This story is so full of yummy things! Sweet, brave, wonderful, adorable hobbits...warm cuddly blankets...conversations in the dark (I LOVE to lay in the dark and talk!)...and comfort, comfort, comfort! That's why we love the 'hurt' part...cause it's always followed by the comfort! Great job! Blessings! cp

Lyta Padfoot · 14 May 2004 · Chapter 9: Knowledge of the Heart

Relieved that Merry is safe once more. Interesting that even Gandalf was affected by Saruman, but the wizard did hit a sore spot. The Frodo and Merry scene was interesting - any chance of Merry having a pyschic talent? We already know Sam has a special one - Frododar.

Thank you for the lovely, satisfying read; the gentle, warm comfort poured into this chapter is lovely. You are good at taking care of hobbits, Shirebound, but for a moment there I was worried when Frodo told Merry to walk toward the light and Merry asked why Frodo was not following him. I was so frightened that Frodo had spent his remaining strength trying to call Merry back that he had no energy left to go back... *shivers* By the way, the description of Merry's perception of being trapped in a Ring is well-written, as is the explanation on why Frodo could fight Saruman's ring. And once again, I must say that I adore the memories that Frodo used to reassure Merry of who he was. *Slitherdoc* ... oh! A stroke of genius. And the feel of *family* ... Awww. That's the sweetest part. Thanks again for the sweet and soothing chapter.

Lindelea · 14 May 2004 · Chapter 9: Knowledge of the Heart

TBC? Hoorah! Wizards are difficult patients? Why am I not surprised? Pip can always tell how Merry is? A very nice touch. Merry's experience of being trapped "inside" the ring, and Frodo's leading him out again, were very believable. Perhaps Celeborn will be able to finish the story after Elrond has sailed? You have nicely brought this story in for a landing, even lining it up on the shelf, neatly, in such a way that no one could ever tell you tampered with it. It meshes nicely into the original once more, and the canon police sigh and turn over in their sleep without wakening.

RogerGamgee · 8 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

Exceptional. That is the only word I can use to describe this story. This was one of those tales that I couldn't put down - once I finished one chapter, I had to move on to the next one. The idea of Saruman wanting to forge a new Great Ring was a fantastic plot device. The only thing that bothered me was that now I have to wait for a new chapter. The angst! All in all, though, a job well done.

Iorhael · 7 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

So it's Frodo's mind to Merry's mind using Narya. I also used that ring in my story but I have never thought of using it the way you did. Very interesting. I wonder it we can think of other use of it.

RogerGamgee · 7 May 2004 · Chapter 2: Stormclouds

The return of Saruman...this story keeps getting better and better as I read it. I added your name to my notification list on SoA, so I can keep up with your writing. You've done a fantastic job thus far, and I can hardly wait to start the next chapter. Good work!

Elenar · 7 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

Another great chapter. I really liked Gandalf praising Pippin's 'abilities.' Will we see more of these 'abilities?'

PIppinfan1988 · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

Most lovely chapter, shirebound! I'm sorry it ended so soon. The part of Galadriel moving Pippin to his cot...so sweet. Good things come to those who wait (semi-patiently!), so I'm waiting for the next chapter. Thanks again for sharing. :-) Pippinfan

Yuna_Dax · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

OO I am so enjoying this story. It combines my two favourite elves Elladan and Elrohir with the other wonderul characters from LOTR. :: sighs in complete and utter happiness:: The tension you have built within the storyline is almost tangible and I'm wallowing in the wonderful angst! This is brilliant, please continue.

Roger Gamgee · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 1: The Three

You've done a fantastic job here with this tale. I was amused to see how Pippin seems to see himself as the 'great hero' of the Quest. Truly his ego seems, like his appetite, to know virtually no bounds. Frodo's newfound 'ability' to discern others' thoughts was an intriguing twist. I wonder if it means that he'll be able to pick up Sam's thoughts as well, since Sam did bear the Ring for a time. I look forward to seeing how this story progresses...Well done!

Elwen · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

I am so in awe of the way you have constructed this story. It is an idea I have never seen done before. Now you'd better duck before I come after you with a frying pan for leaving us with that cliffie!

esamen · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

But Gandalf,” she said, troubled, “the strength Elrond and I channel into Frodo will be temporary. When withdrawn, it may be that his efforts to guide Merry back to us will cause him to be even weaker than he is now.” Hmm . . . a little warning of further angst and comfort to come? I can't wait to see what happens between Frodo and Merry. Your scenes of Aragorn calling back Frodo from the depths are some of my favorite lines in all of fan fictdom. You go, Shirebound! Please keep this story going . . . I need hobbits desperately in my life! This story is better than vitamins . . . better than champagne . . . right up there with lembas and warm milk. Thanks for all your hard work.

Lindelea · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

Ah, nice to see there is a way to call Merry back (lovely Merry-angst, and Pip-angst, and Sam-angst, poor tired Sam, and...) but not without danger to Frodo, it seems. Are we in for a hefty dose of Frodo-angst in the near future? Your Elladan sounds altogether like one of my Tooks! “Elladan is much better, Frodo,” Elrohir said, coming to join them. “Several ribs are broken, but Elves heal very quickly. He is awake, and already impatient with being bedridden for just these few hours. Perhaps he shall have to become an honorary hobbit like Legolas and Gimli... As always, looking forward to more.

Jay of Lasgalen · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

I like the way you show the twins in this story, how protective Elrohir is of Elladan, and able to feel his pain. I loved how eager he was to remove Saruman's finger to get the ring off! Things still sound bad for Frodo and Merry, though. Jay

cpsings4him · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

I really enjoyed this chapter! You had the perfect balance of revelation and suspense! Poor dear Frodo! I love that little hobbit! Your stories just make me love him more! Can't wait for the next part! Blessings! cp

Anso the Hobbit · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Choices

This is getting more and more exciting. I hope Frodo does manages to reach Merry without being too weakened, and if Pip needs to help that he will manage. Can`t wait for more!
