awwww, love this restrained faramir with eowyn. i thought he was a little fratboyish earlier in the story. keep up the good work.
what is the song eowyn is singing? “Falewende…Is ná eower locfeax…” Giggling at her own absurdity, she murmured into the dip of his throat, “Ond blæwen is ná eower êage. Ge eart ná of min, Ac ge eart min ánum ond á ðý deórwyrþran…”
i'm getting old, is the translation here? dying to know what she's saying.....
Author's reply
Eowyn's song was in last chapter. But it's also in the complete translation at the end of this new chapter. :) Hope you enjoy it.

Hi,
just want to say I just love your story, I found it yesterday and ended up reading it until about 1 oclock in the morning! Your ideas and level of detail are amazing! I think I will have to print out your next submissions as I kept losing my place trying to read the translations on screen. Youve left this last story at a tantalising place, you tease!! (can't say I would have had the forbearance to do that!). When is the next chapter due out?, I'm waiting on tenterhooks to find out how Eowyn will cope in Gondor and if Faramir will finally get his Rohirric name. I'm glad that Faramir and Eomer have finally made it up, I was going to have to slap them if they carried on being so angsty!
Author's reply
Thanks! :) I'm hoping to post the next chapter by this weekend. I've got it written half-way, but with editing I might have to post next week, but I'm really trying not to tease you too badly!
No more angst. :) Lots of good, happy people in this chapter.

Review because SoH threatened me.... just kidding. MMMM, lots and lots of shirtlessFaramir in this one! LOVE IT! Actually, I liked this chapter a great deal - there's a nice slow development of character and relationships going on here.
Cheers,

Muwah-ha-ha...kidding. ;) Mm, naked Faramir. Gotta describe that in deep detail in the next chapter. Hee.
Yes, the slow developement of character and relationships......ah, finally, sweet love is in the air.

Aaaaahhhh! They're back! I'm so glad whenever I open my e-mail and see a story update alert for your story.
The reunion scene was wonderful, and I'm glad they got past the haircolor thing. And how very clever of Faramir to think of a manner in which to hurry the dye on it's way.
I'm happy to see Faramir and Eomer getting on better, and developing a nice relationship. But I'm worried about how Faramir is going to smooth over the rift with his students. Is there still a problem there? And what is his final Rohiric name going to be?!?!? So many questions that I hope you will soon provide answers for. Thank you again for this beautiful, wonderful story!!
Author's reply
LOL, Faramir was quick to suggest that, wasn't he? ;)
Faramir and students will smooth things over soon, kind of, as soon as I can think of the perfect thing. lol. His Rohirric name won't be anytime soon, but he still has lots of time in Rohan for Gaer to think of something great.
You're very welcome. :D

No fair!! You can't just lead us on like that and leave us hanging!
I've been waiting forever for this chapter and the wait was worth it. I like the "new" Eomer, even more than I like Faramir, I think. Speaking of Faramir, I was a little shocked at his reaction to Eowyn's new look. I'm such a sap, but I always figured he wouldn't care about stuff like that. Men are just so shallow! ;)
Can't wait for the next chapter.
Author's reply
Sorry. Hee.
Aww, Eomer is sweet in this chapter and in the next, I promise. No more silly fights. :D
lol. Faramir likes that golden hair. Who knows, his mother's name meant "golden leaf" her hair might have been gold as well.

Well you're forgiven for making us wait. I loved their reunion it was beautifully written; the whole intimacy was beautiful. I loved Faramir's reaction to Eowyn's new hair color. That was great. I am just a sentimental sap, but you had me tearing up. Don't make us wait so long, you are really cruel. I had given up hope of ever see a new chapter or the reunion of Faramir and Eowyn. But, without your story as a pleasant distraction I have gotten a lot of things done. Anyway, thank you for the new chapter.

I love the tub scene and can't wait to read what Eowyn's song about Faramir means. I also loved the bits with Thorn. Yes I'm a sucker for animals.
Thanks for updating. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next chapter.

Girl! You do NOT lead people on like that with candles and romance and warm baths and then leave them hanging!! Go sit down and write up the next chapter right now.
Okay, now that that's out of my system, I must say that I really loved this chapter. Gaer's line of "Go with her or this time i will kill you and take your place" was my favorite line. I also loved the men's reaction to Eowyn's hair, how all of the activity just stopped when they saw. Reminds me of the time I chopped all of my hair off-everyone just freaked out. :)
I liked how tactful Eowyn was about asking for a bigger tub, but I can just imagine the women getting back to the kitchen or wherever and giggling like mad about Eowyn and her paramour getting it on in the bath. Lol.
Eomer is turning into a real sweetheart, which is a good thing. We need more sweet and charming Eomer. Heaven help him when he meets Lothiriel.
Well, that's all I can think of to say right now. If I think of anything else, I'll leave another comment. Oh-you ought to get a LiveJournal and join the Faramir communities online. Those are really cool. :)
Great chapter, and hurry up on the next one!!
Author's reply
LOL. Sorry, but I decided the chapter was too long and you might want to get something else done that day. ;)
Heh, Gaer wasn't playing around, was he? LOL, I didn't even think of the women doing that. Hee. I bet they did. It'll be all over Edoras in a day.

Don't have time to write a full review right now, but wanted to comment on something.
*Heh, why all this interest in setting up Gaer? That's my pet peeve BTW--all, and I do mean *all* storylines nowadays seem to be about people falling in love. It drives me crazy.*
C'mon, why get so upset about it? The only reason we want to see Gaer hooked up is because he's so damn awesome, and we want to see how he acts around and with a woman. It's not a suggestion *I* commonly make, at least. I've read many an OC, and only one other time I suggested setting someone up. Basically because I thought he was great, just like Gaer.
Really, is it our fault you wrote such a f****** cool OC? :-D
Author's reply
Aw. How could I be upset at that? :) Gaer might get a woman of Gondor, seeing as I had no plans for him to get one from Rohan...you'll just have to wait.
This next chapter's coming fast and if I didn't have a killer headache I'd be further into it. As it is, I've got 6 pages of what usually averages around 30. But I promise Faramir's not going to return at the end of the chapter, but around the middle. Faramir/Eowyn goodness is near!

Glad to see another chapter!
I love the way you write the training of and interaction with horses; it's very convincing.
I'm so glad that you're writing Imrahil more sympathetically; Tolkien wrote in HoME that he and Eomer become buddies.
I do hope that Faramir is going to have some kind of physical victory or perform some valiant feat. He's already proved that he's extremely clever and adaptable, but I want to see his physical strength and courage recognized. I thought you had said or implied that Faramir would face some kind of danger while out with the Rohirrim...
I wonder if Oswyn is going to tamely forget his grudge against Faramir - and will he spread the word that Faramir tattled on him; not that Faramir had much choice...
The bit with Arwen and Eowyn stuffing their faces and chewing inelegantly didn't do anything for me. There are other ways of showing Eowyn's strength and independance...
I love the idea of Gaer returning to Gondor with Faramir. I wonder if Beregond has a younger sister or female cousin...
Thorn is great! Can Faramir take him back to Minas Tirith and eventually Ithilien?
Author's reply
That's actually more or less how you train a horse to lead. I left out what makes it so easy-you let them walk on a rope all day so that they teach themselves to move their feet to release the pressure. Trust me, it's *way* easier than anything else. No cowboy stuff for me. Too much trauma. :)
Yes, there will be danger. This isn't Faramir's only trip out, he's going out again after the festival while Eowyn rides to the City. That gives him time to cement a friendship with Eomer, have the danger, have adventures with Gaer and Eowyn time to do her thing in Minas Tirith. See? It's working out! You just have to be patient. I know I keep writing that. LOL, these chapters seemed really long at first but they're really short to me now.
Oswyn shows up later. Probably more pissed off than before. heh
Okay, yeah, other ways with Eowyn...I know. Let's start small--
1. She changes her external appearance and keeps the look until it washes out naturally despite Faramir and Eomer's dislike of it.
2. Beginning to relax about going to the City and what might be required of her, namely the cake-stuffing isn't all just a wee start. First her physical characteristics change, then her mental.
3. Uh, not sure yet. The hunt for boar is something. I want her to both see the dangers of it and the impractibility of it in her new life, yet not end that part of her life because Eowyn isn't like other noblewomen who ride hunts, she goes with the men for the kill. She's used to seeing herself, if not as a man, as living a sort of a halfway existence. She needs to learn the good parts of women's activities. Anyway, I'll work it out.
Heh, why all this interest in setting up Gaer? That's my pet peeve BTW--all, and I do mean *all* storylines nowadays seem to be about people falling in love. It drives me crazy.
Thorn...I don't know. It would be really sad if Faramir and he bonded and he left him behind, wouldn't it? Aww, yes. Yet one would assume the Prince of Ithilien rides a very attractive horse. And would Thorn be happy to be shut up in the stables of Minas Tirith? We all know Faramir could buy him from Eomer--hell, Eomer would probably just give him the horse--but Faramir might have to think about what he would do with Thorn. It would be cute to have Thorn giving Elboron pony rides, wouldn't it? Not that I would entirely trust Thorn at the moment.
Hee, you just know little Elboron's experience of Rohan is going to be very different, don't you? I keep snickering over picturing Eomer as an uncle. It's going to be all ponies and candy and tournments, I swear. Poor Faramir, his kids come home all spoiled as hell...somehow I can see Eomer hopping them up on sugar all day then dropping them off in Ithilien. :)
Author Reply: Oh, I forgot. The dagger that Eowyn got from Faramir? Well, so far she won't even touch it and that's really not a good sign. The day she can just pick it up and toss it or whatever would be the day she was fine.
See? I'm trying here. :)

I was a little surprised that Eomer got the upper hand this time, but maybe that will help him get along better with Faramir. Who knows?
I'm dying to know what you have planned for Gaer when he gets to the City.

A nice long chapter! I felt sorry for Eomer in this chapter ( and you know that's odd for me! ;) )poor man. I'm glad he pinned Faramir. I hope their wrestle restored the balance between them once and for all and now they can really become friends. (Fingers crossed. 'I hope, I hope.') I'd love to see the two of them having fun together. Imagine Eowyn's shock?!
Interesting addition of Imrahil. I always loved his character in the books. He always sounds so noble and princely. I think it's nice that Eowyn is getting to find out a bit about Finduilas and Faramir's family. Hopefully he can help Eowyn adjust to life in ways that Finduilas never learned to do and not let Eowyn get scared off.
I'm wondering why you chose to have Eowyn go off on another hunt at this time? Hmmm.
I was intrigued by Eowyn's beliefs about dreams, not disturbing ghosts and the fact that Faramir was dreaming about Boromir before Eowyn entered the dream. I'm assuming that we'll get more about this in another chapter.
Thank you for getting rid of Oswyn! Good lad Eomer.
My favorite bits were: Eowyn's attempts at song writing. It made me smile. I like reading about her beening as she calls herself, "girly". I loved the bit with Faramir bonding with Thorn. It made me wish for a Thorn of my very own.
I hope you find time to write in your busy semester! Looking forward to more!

Author's reply
Poor Eowyn when she realizes she's outnumbered 2 to 1...of course that's in the future...WAY in the future if you know my writing ;)
Goody, Imrahil is good now. Heh, I'm totally erasing all that crap in the beginning. Let's just pretend it never happened, shall we?
Hmm about the hunt indeed. Lots of possibilities. Personally I'm snickering at the argument about where Eowyn's going to hang that boar's head and how much Faramir's masculinity will suffer when its clear he's got nothing remotely manly in his rooms. "What? That bearskin? Ah...that's my wife's..." lol
Hey, Eomer's coming around. He's admitting in public that he is (soon to be) related to Faramir now and he's wanting to help him and not just because of his sister--though you'll notice that's ALWAYS the first excuse, lol. He's just a big softie! I think the guy deserves a gold star for holding onto his temper and not hitting Faramir back during the wrestling. That's a lot of change from Eomer in the beginning. He even wrestled nicely and didn't twist Faramir's arm out of its socket or anything.
Hee, just hee at Eowyn's song. "Ode to Faramir", my god, I wrote it and it's actually good if you don't mind the corny beginning. Odd, I can write Rohirric songs just fine but Faramir's poetry? No way. Sad.
Thorn is very prevalent in the next chapter with more bonding. Aw. I know.
I'll write what I can and I'm eager to get started since I've dropped the long delay and Eomer is returning to Edoras *next* chapter and so is Faramir. YAY! SMUT! Eowyn/Faramir goodness!! Wet and wild Faramir. Well, maybe not so wild, he's gonna have a hard day and be worn out. Poor him and poor Thorn.
heh, poor Eowyn. ;)

My first reaction to Faramir snapping at Eomer was "Oh for the love of Pete, dude, you're on good terms with him now! Don't destroy it!" That being said, I had to laugh at the way Eomer got him down and gave him a serious talking to. I can understand that Faramir would snap when he got to the breaking point, and it's both sad and funny that it happened when Eomer called him "Lytle Bregu". Faramir needs to get back to Gondor before he loses it completely.I'm also curious to know how you're going to improve Faramir's relationship with his students. Gaer is right, and he needs to treat them like the young men that they are.
As for Eowyn, I love how Arwen is disgusted at her good behavior. Eowyn's probably a breath of fresh air to the Queen, bad manners and everything. I'm glad that Eowyn came to a realization that she doesn't need to be perfect, just herself. That's a good thing to learn, especially before she gets to the City. Arwen stuffing a cake in her mouth like that makes it even sweeter: it's as if she's saying, "Look, if you don't act like a shieldmaiden then I will!"
Here's hoping that Eowyn gets her boar, and that no one gets hurt in getting it. I just read a book where one character was gutted by a boar, and it wasn't pretty. :P
All in all, a great chapter, and I look forward to more!
Author's reply
Heh, I thought Faramir was losin' it too but hey, he's going to the extreme here of from being too patient, to snapping at every little thing. I'm feeling he's got to adjust and he will. It's culture shock, I guess. Everything's different and nothing makes sense. Poor Faramir.
Also, poor Eomer for getting attacked. Even though he ended up on top. heh.
LOL, Arwen. I loved that. Her and Eowyn will be really great friends by the end of this story. :) It's good that Arwen sees Eowyn needs to tone it down and not get herself so wound up. She's a bit of an overachiever in this.

I am breathlessly awaiting your next chapter!! I just wanted to leave a note to let you know that your story is fantastic, and stands on it's own even apart from the LOTR original.
The character development is wonderful, and I appreciate your descriptions of everyday life, and work of both Rohan and Gondor. There is obviously much time spent in research, or even better, personal experience. I think that it brings another level of depth to the story without being pondorous or boring. And it gives us a much greater understanding of the characters personalities, and values.
I flew through these first chapters and am eagerly awaiting more. I even tried to calculate how many you write a month based on your start date. I look forward to an e-mail alert to let me know there is more. Thank you so much for your continued good work.

You're very welcome. Good reviews inspire me to do my best by this story and not cheat and get lazy. :D
The next chapter should be up fairly soon--"fairly" means less than a week, but not today. I've got most of it written but it's not where I want to stop. I really need to add some, so I will do that as soon as I can. This semester is harder than the last! I've got an incredible amount of reading to do, so hopefully you can be patient.
Author Reply: Holy crap, I hate floppy disks. Sorry, I'll have to post the new chapter on Mon. I would have today I but had a late Engish paper and the disk messed up (ONLY THE THING I WANTED, MIND YOU) and I had to rewrite it.
On the plus side I've decided to get Faramir to Edoras sooner--screw the 16 days, it's been like 10 already and I want some smut. This is a Work In Progress, I can change stuff. Oh, and try and forget all I wrote of Imrahil, will you? I'm erasing it in the rewrite anyway and replacing it with a nice scene. He's really nice, okay? I'm sorry. :)
Somehow I doubt anyone will be disappointed with the change in plans and the over 1040 hit count on the smuttiest chapter I have up supports that, too. ;) Gaer and Faramir can have adventures when Eowyn's in the City.

Time to review again! Btw, you know me. I was once Drake until Earthlink bugged and corrupted all the addresses on my account. :(
Stupid Earthlink...
I have to say it again; I just *love* this story! It may be 2006 before we see a conclusion, but that's okay! Even the little things you put in are spectacular! :)
OMG, I saw that bit in the reviews about Eowyn screaming Mervin at the top of her lungs. Yeah, if I was in the hall, well, first I'd be stunned speechless, THEN I'd laugh and run off to tell everyone, "Hey, you know what Lord Faramir has Lady Eowyn calling him?" :)
Good to see Eomer and Faramir much closer to being buddies. Thankfully, drunk as Faramir was, he probably doesn't remember how badly he was beaten when he was in the match.
Love Gaer as always! And Nier and Tondhere as well. Man, I REALLY can't wait till you get Gaer in Ithilien. And I must add, I still want to see who gets to be Gaer's girlfriend. I can just see him charming some young Gondorric woman. And then, *duh duh duh DUH*, children of Gaer! ROFL! I just love this guy; a spinoff story would not be amiss. :)
And give Nier Gaer's sister. :)
...Eomer needs Lothiriel, and soon! Though I know he's a year-and-a-half, two years away from marrying her. That onion riddle made me choke on my own breath at first, but then when I saw the answer I thought, "Ohhhhhh, that makes sense now."
Am wondering what Oswyn's grudge is and hope I don't have to wait too long to find out.
Author's reply
It *may* be 2006. LOL, that's a possibility, but I've decided I'd rather have detail and not worry about length, cause details make a story better. :)
Aww, Gaer's great, isn't he? Those Rohirrim guys are fun (at least the ones who aren't assholes like Oswyn) Children of Gaer, lol, that would be scary. They'll have to wait until he's over Eowyn. He's nursing his crush, still, I'm afraid.

Another very good and entertaining chapter. Many thanks! After reading all the other reviews, all that I can add is that I like the contast in tone between the inn and the dream.
However, I do disagree with Elendiar 22 and others about Faramir being the "cutest" drunk. My preferance is for the characters played by Katherine Hepburn and Joan Blondel in The Desk Set. Although "charming" is perhpas the better word to describe them. This film is also very good if you want to study snappy dialog.
My sympathy to Crimson and her Ny-quil addiction. I also have been there.
As always, I'm looking forward to your next chapter. And, indded, the one after that. I love thoughtful and artistic smut.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for a good Faramir story, and this has been a very nice one. I love the romancing and the wheedling that goes on between him and Eowyn. Your Eomer is just priceless, too. Poor, intellectual Faramir, wondering just how it is that punching someone could be a gateway to respect. In your reply to Crimson, you said:
"Oh, I've been giggling at the Eowyn/Gondor scenes for a long time. God, I wish I was there already because Bergil's a sweetie and Beregond's awesome, too, in helping Eowyn. Frankly, I don't think Beregond's doing much right now as he's the Captain of Faramir's guard and Faramir's in Rohan. So, what's he going to do? Bodyguard for the Lady of Ithilien, that's what. :) Luckily for him she's not so much of a Lady."
I hope you haven't forgotten that in the books, Eowyn was very conscious of her lineage and place as a daughter of the House of Eorl. So in her mind she would be a Lady. However, she would probably be more physically active than most ladies of Gondor, not to mention having more of an acumen for military organization. Beregond wouldn't necessarily be used to Ladies who ride, hunt with hounds, kill Ringwraiths (well, just one, and with Merry's help, but still it's not something that even Aragorn could have done)...
I could see Eowyn and Beregond arguing about how best to fortify Ithilien, though. (in the end, Faramir could step in and referee, or cast the deciding vote)
I bet Bergil will think that Eowyn is pretty hot stuff. Maybe Gaer and Beregond could bond when Gaer comes to Ithilien; and swap tips on keeping Faramir out of trouble...
Author's reply
Well, of course Eowyn and Beregond will have conflicts. She's exactly what you said--a Lady, but one that does a little more than average. He didn't seem so strait-laced with Pippin, though. Actually he struck me as a pretty good guy and a good dad. Very loyal, he'd smile and put up with Eowyn just for Faramir's sake, I think. :)
Bergil will think she is hot stuff..what is he? Eleven? Aww. That's sweet. Maybe Eowyn will adore him and decide children wouldn't be so bad after all.
Yeah, there will be Gaer/Beregond bonding. :)

More thoughts:
*First off, "Call me Mervin" is hilarious! Can you imagine Eowyn screaming Mervin at the top of her lungs? Maybe you should name him that after all... (just kidding).
*Okay, so Oswyn really does have a motive. That's cool. But can you still fit the Illinois Nazis into the story too somehow? (Sorry. I didn't take any NyQuil last night.) I figured out what Oswyn's beef is from the little hint you left. Good thinking -- can't wait to see how you pull it off.
*There is something I've been meaning to write into a review for ages, but I always seem to forget to mention it. Remember your dream sequence back in Chapter 57 (I had to go find it to be sure)? Well, I think I discovered a little clue in there about the future. I might be totally off-base here, but something still tells me that I'm right about this. I don't want to spoil it for everyone else; so I'll ask you an abstract sounding question, and if you answer it, I'll know I'm right. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll know I'm wrong and will then let you know what it was I thought I figured out. Okay, here's the question: Does Gandalf give Eowyn any gifts before he sails into the West?
*Your physical descriptions of Faramir and Eowyn are so precise and visual that I've often wondered if you are describing them based on a real life figure. So, what is your visual inspiration for them? Specific actors or people or art work? Just curious. It's a game I learned from a friend who's a casting director. We try to connect written descriptions to real actors.
*I know I'm still missing something. It'll probably come to me the minute I hit send.
