"I am betrayed," he said. "It was rightly guessed that I could not forbear to redeem the Arkenstone, the treasure of my house. For it I will give one fourteenth share of the hoard in silver and gold, setting aside the gems; but that shall be accounted the promised share of this traitor, and with that reward he shall depart, and you can divide it as you will. He will get little enough, I doubt not. Take him, if you wish him to live; and no friendship of mine goes with him."

The Roses of Ilúvatar by Orophins Dottir
". . .in nothing is the power of the Dark Lord more clearly shown than in the estrangement that divides all those who still oppose him." --Haldir, the March Warden of the North. AU and proud of it. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHAPTER STRUCTURE OF THIS STORY AND ITS COMPANION "JEWELS OF HIS EXISTENCE" HAVE BEEN CHANGED. UNTIL I HAVE TIME TO TRULY MERGE THEM, PLEASE SEE CHAPTER SEQUENCE FOR GUIDANCE. Thank you!

Merry's Anger by Grey Wonderer
This is a small chapter which takes place just after Gandalf rides off on Shadowfax with Pippin in RETURN OF THE KING. I felt that there was a scene missing and this is my effort to correct that. I felt that there would be some sort of an exchange between Aragorn and Merry after they watched their friends ride off. Maybe it will be in the Extended DVD, but until then this is what I think might have happened. (Written for Marigold's Feb. Challenge)
