I love the "silly Baggins-silly Took" exchanges between Frodo and Pippin; the hobbits cover the heaviness in their hearts with this light banter and gives it real pathos. I also liked Frodo calling Aragorn "silly ranger". You make such wonderful use of the "empty days" between Weathertop and Rivendell, and this is much as I would picture it to be.
I thought I'd leave my review for you here instead of FF.net; at least this window doesn't keep kicking me out.

OH, I just love this story. You do a wonderful job of portraying our sweet hobbits exactly the way I have always imagined them. I'm so glad to have a new chapter, and once again, can't wait for more!

Frodo is so . . . Frodo . . . here. Just quietly getting on with the job that has to be done, no complaints. And the other hobbits are supportive as always.

Aragorn is strong and kind and gentle all at the same time and I love the image of Frodo finaly falling asleep between him and Sam.

Your description of Frodo's failing health is heart-rending. And bless sweet Pippin! Still giving it everything he's got after ten days. I love how Strider is willing to answer all of Pippin's many, many questions with good humored patience. And our stout-hearted friend Sam! How touching that he couldn't sleep until he pictured Mr. Frodo safe and well and reunited with Bilbo. *sniff*

::“Your grandfather led the Rangers, and your father after him?” Merry leaned forward. “And now… you do?”
“Yes,” said Aragorn simply. Merry just looked at him thoughtfully.::

Its amazing! I can see the wheels turning in Merry's brain. I'm thinking he'll have Aragorn figured out before they even reach Rivendell.

Another magnificent chappie! Poor Frodo, your descriptions make it so that I can almost see him slipping off into the wraith world. Sam's resolution at the end was wonderful. I like how Strider seems to fo out of his way to make Pippin feel special(Thestar). Update soon!

Wow! You really show Merry as a strong, intelligent hobbit. I'm glad Strider didn't pull any punches telling him about Frodo's wound. If something were to happen to him, Merry is the best choice to lead the others on to Rivendell.

I'd never realized before that Merry was the only hobbit who had never seen an elf! I'm glad Sam got the elf-stone. His conversation with Merry about his faith in the elves was a lovely way to end this chapter.

I think I am most touched in this chpapter with the emotion of Merry as he thinks about the fate of his cousin. I think of the first time I read the book the fear of not knowing what would happen, how it had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put the book down. You have captured what it might have been like to live through it - for their fears to be there, the unknowns they faced - of future attack, of not making it to Rivendell in time; of whether Frodo could be helped once they go there. Merry's fear and pain were palpable.

And I LOVE that sam got the elf-stone!!

Oh, I think this statement struck me the hardest:

“It’s life,” Frodo murmured, “warmth and life. They can’t bear it. It’s the sun they’ll never feel again, and love, and hearts beating, and all the things forever lost to them. Forever lost…”

For Aragorn knows that Frodo may become like that himself. You captured that nicely - put to words what Tolkien implied about the wraiths. How awful their existence must have been. *shudder* And then I think of how close Frodo came to joining them.....

Wonderful conversation with Merry, who is really quite a practical and intelligent fellow. I love the mention of Pip singing and telling stories to soothe Frodo. I await the next chapter eagerly.

BTW, I am also known as Melime over at ff.net. They had too many Miriels there.

Anyway, thank you! thank you! thank you! for the wonderful chappie with an intelligent Merry! I never realized before that Merry was the only Hobbit who never saw elves before they arrived in Rivendell.

It's interesting to see others POV of Frodo wasting away. Most enlightening to say the least.

Hmmm...where will the story go next?

Also, thank you for putting your comments to reviewers at the end of the story. I like them better down there. :)

Update soon!
