Interrupted Journeys 12: To Fall into Shadow  by elliska 116 Review(s)

This is one of the most well written, in depth, wonderfully thought out fanfic I have ever seen. I found this series several years ago on Open Scrolls and read what you have posted there multiple times. I just followed the remainder of it here and was not disappointed. I hope all is well with you and you are able to continue updating this story because I really can't wait to find out what happens next. All or your characters are so well fleshed out, and even Manadthien, as horrible as she is, has her moments where you can't do anything but pity her. And that, to me, is a sign of excellent writing. You have a wonderful gift that I hope you are able to continue sharing with us.

Just realized I left a review twice, but that just shows how much I think about the story and love it.

Author Reply: I have done that myself several times! :-)

What a wonderful story. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, not least because I am new to fan fiction and discovered your story only this year, and so I was able to read it without interruption to the current chapter. You have shown us Thranduil's and his family's experiences, both in their daily lives and facing brewing troubles, so well that I feel like I was there and saw it all happen - the courtship and the wedding, the growing shadow and the move North, the tedious but necessary duties of ruling a realm, the fun of merry-making in the Green, the adventures of young Legolas and his cousins, their joy and pain growing up and learning to defend themselves and their families and people....it's heart-warming and heart-breaking. I like the full and loving family you have given he King and Prince of Greenwood. It warms my heart to see that they have so much love and support in the midst of challenging times. And their love for the forest and the forest's love back for them. Now I have a little corner of Middle-earth that I feel I have travelled in and can call my own because I lived and breathed with the elves living there. Thank you so much for giving me this. And I look forward to finding out how the latest threat is dealt with.

It has been so long without an update. Are you alright? I'm starting to get really worried.

Please let us know if you are alright.

Author Reply: It was a really bad year, but I am alright. I do appreciate your concern so much! :-)

What a wonderful story you have written. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have read it again. You have shown us Thranduil’s and his family’s experiences, both in their daily lives and facing brewing troubles, so well that I feel like I was there and saw it all happen - the courtship and the wedding, the growing Shadow and the move North, building the new stronghold, the tedious but necessary duties of ruling a realm, the fun of merry-making on the Green, the festivals, the adventures of young Legolas and his cousins, their joy and pain growing up and learning to defend themselves and their families and people....it’s heartwarming and heartbreaking. I like the full and loving family you have given the King and Prince of Greenwood. It warms my heart to see that they have so much love and support in the midst of challenging times. And their love for the forest and the forest’s love back for them. Now I have a corner of Middle-earth that I feel I have travelled in and can call my own because I lived and breathed with the elves living there. Thank you so much for giving me this. And I look forward to finding out how the latest threat is resolved.

tap tap tap tap tap... March 1 sure was a long time ago...

I've had time to go back and read all 12 installments. And all the reviews.

You ARE okay, right??? o.O Last time I checked up on an author, we lost Fiondil. Please at least let us know you're okay...

I can be patient, just a bit worried, all things considered. ^_^

Oh Fiondil! I do miss him!

It was a very bad year for me, but I am still here. I will update soon. I do appreciate your concern (and your reading) so much!

Oh my gosh!!! This chapter made my heart race! What a cliffhanger!

Things that struck out to me the most:

1) Lindomiel! How noble of her to protect her sons! I do hope that she can take Manadhien down. I know she is definitely not as skilled as Manadhien in terms of battle- but maybe she can at least do enough to save herself? Or trick Manadhien? After all, this is her stronghold.

It would be great to see a strong female character (besides Manadhien- who is really more evil and deranged) who can wield her own and defend herself. It would be a chance for Lindomiel to prove to everyone that she isn't just a kind and nice queen and mother- that she had some bite behind all the nobility and compassion. After all, Manadhien did almost kill her husband and son. Oh please let the badass side of Lindomiel come out! Let her accomplish something that her son and nephews and husband couldn't do!

2) Nouril- What an idiot. How on earth did he think that Manadhien would ever have him in her best interest? Of course she used him- and now he is exposed. I pity him, and yet, I think that he deserves what he got. Largely because of him, things have escalated to what they are now. And his childhood playmate was killed. It will be interesting to see his motives and punishment.

3) Gandalf is here! With Elrohir and Elladan! Surely they (mostly Gandalf since he is a wizard) will be able to sense something bad has happened and come to help out?

Great chapter! It is really keeping me at the edge of my seat!!

Author Reply: Lindomiel: I just loved all those comments!

Noruil: You are so right. An idiot. His reasoning, such as it is, will be clear in the next chapter.

I'm sorry to keep you on the edge of your seat for so long!

As usually excellent writing. But I found it hard to grasp the parts about Thranduils braindamages and the quick conversation by Elrohir and Thranduil. It might be due to that English is not my native language. I read the reviews and those parts of the story back and forth a couple of Times' and caught the subtletities at last.I guess you wanted to be descreete as a part of the atmosphere around Thranduil as hes a passionate and somewhat imposing man to all in his house😄.
Noruil! I wonder what will happen to him now- will Thranduil treat him as a week, misunderstood, mislead youth which he is ofcourse.Or... Will he be treated as a criminal.. which he also have become with his meddling with Manadien. All will become clearer to uS with time hehe! Thank you for makin my day as Im currently home with a longdragging flu😊

Author Reply: I intended for the part about Thranduil's injury to be confusing, as it was confusing to him and it was in his POV. So it's completely understandable that it was hard to follow! :)

. All will become clearer to uS with time hehe! More time than I intended, but yes. :)

Wow. As usual, Wow! Definitely worth the wait, this chapter!

There is so much I loved, and so much to continue to be tense about...

One of the things that struck me most as I was reading is that I love how single-minded Legolas and Thranduil are on the subject of magic rings. The two of them saying "destroy it" so definitively without having discussed it together beforehand was a beautiful way to show their agreement.

Almost all of Thranduil's speeches move me (I desperately wish I could write dialogue like you!), but this one, the whole paragraph ending with: "But I will not, ever, employ the power of the Enemy.”

That gave me chills. Of the best kind.

Thranduil is one of my favorite characters precisely because he was the only one able to maintain his realm without magic devices (beyond the inherent "magic" of being elves), and you are doing an amazing job portraying the fortitude and strength of character such a task would require.
